What Did Jesus Say Concerning Those Who Engage In Witchcraft?

The Bible condemns all forms of witchcraft, sorcery, divination, and necromancy as Satan’s counterfeit to holy spirituality. It teaches that these practices are idolatry, rebellion, and a source of harm and death. Paul warns against accepting circumcision, as it is an abomination to the Lord.

The Bible contains multiple admonitions against witchcraft and considers it a grave sin. It provides verses about witchcraft and other sins in Galatians 5:20 and Deuteronomy 18:9-15, urging Christians to avoid these abominations and follow God’s commands.

For those who know someone involved in witchcraft, we can take comfort in knowing that God is a God of mercy and forgiveness. We can find biblical passages that condemn and warn against witchcraft, sorcery, divination, and necromancy, and how God commands his people to avoid and reject these practices.

Jesus alone has the power to set people free (John 8:32), and confessing Jesus as Lord and Saviour is the key to true salvation. The Bible also warns against witchcraft and sorcery, stating that they are abominations to God. Key verses from Exodus, Deuteronomy, and Galatians warn against such practices and their consequences.

Modern witchcraft has made connections to social and gender dynamics, with many accused witches being women and witch hunts often occurring. Christians should not fear witchcraft or magic, as it was performed by a Christian as a divine ritual at some point. Various forms of witchcraft and divination are mentioned in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh or Old Testament), which are expressly forbidden.

In conclusion, the Bible condemns all forms of witchcraft, sorcery, divination, and necromancy, and urges Christians to avoid them. By confessing Jesus as Lord and Saviour, we can achieve true salvation and avoid the harmful consequences of witchcraft and other practices.

What does God say about witches?

Exodus 22:18, Leviticus 19:26, Leviticus 20:27, and Deuteronomy 18:10-11 all prohibit the practice of necromancy, divination, and soothsaying. These laws are portrayed as foreign and are the only part of the Hebrew Bible to mention such practices. The presence of laws forbidding necromancy proves that it was practiced throughout Israel’s history.

The exact difference between the three forbidden forms of necromancy mentioned in Deuteronomy 18:11 is uncertain, as yidde’oni (“wizard”) is always used together with ob (“consulter with familiar spirits”) and its semantic similarity to doresh el ha-metim (“necromancer” or “one who directs inquiries to the dead”) raises the question of why all three are mentioned in the same verse. The Jewish tractate Sanhedrin distinguishes between a doresh el ha-metim, a person who would sleep in a cemetery after starving himself, to become possessed, and a yidde’oni, a wizard.

In summary, the prohibition of necromancy in the Hebrew Bible is a significant aspect of Jewish history.

Can Christians write stories with magic?

The good magic in fantasy is derived from God, while witchcraft is the sin of attempting to gain supernatural power outside of God. In the fantasy genre, swords, elves, and magic are often associated with God. However, the Christian writer may face a challenge in determining what is acceptable to write as a Christian. While passages in Leviticus and Deuteronomy condemn magic and warn God’s people not to practice it, fantasy novels like The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and The Inheritance Cycle often feature magic.

There are various Christian perspectives on this issue, ranging from condemning any “good magic” in fiction to allowing anything in a fictional universe. A local council has proposed the construction of a permanent memorial to Agnes Waterhouse, the first woman executed for witchcraft, and other victims of similar persecutions. What does the Bible say about Halloween?

The Bible does not directly reference Halloween, but it advises Christians against participating in pagan practices involving witchcraft, occult, and deity worship. Paul’s 1 Corinthians 10:31 encourages obedience to God, urging us to do all to the glory of God. While dressing up in a costume and giving candy on Halloween is not a sin, it is important to consider how our actions align with God. Remembering Jesus in our behaviors, interactions, and costume choices is crucial on polarizing days like Halloween.

What does the Bible say about practicing spirituality?

What does the Bible say about practicing magic?

The Bible contains numerous references to witchcraft, condemning practices such as casting spells, being a medium, spiritist, or consulting the dead. These practices are considered detestable to the Lord, and the Lord will drive out those nations before you. The word “witch” may be a mistranslation of “poisoner”, and some believe there is a primitive idealist belief in a relation between bewitching and coveting. Some adherents of near-east religions acted as mediums, channeling messages from the dead or familiar spirits.

The Bible is sometimes translated as referring to “necromancer” and “neromancy”, but some lexicographers, like James Strong and Spiros Zodhiates, disagree. They believe that the Hebrew word “kashaph” (כשפ) in Exodus 22:18 and other places in the Tanakh comes from a root meaning “to whisper”, meaning “to whisper a spell, i. e. to incant or practice magic”. The Contemporary English Version translates Deuteronomy 18:11 as referring to “any kind of magic”.

Are there 2 unforgivable sins?

Matthew 12:30-32, Mark 3:28-30, Luke 12:8-10, and Hebrews 6:4-6 all emphasize the importance of forgiveness for sins and blasphemy. However, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not forgiven, as it is considered an eternal sin. The Son of Man acknowledges the Son of Man before others, but denies him before the angels of God.

Hebrews 6:4-6 states that it is impossible to restore repentance to those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift, shared in the Holy Spirit, and tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come. If we willfully persist in sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there is no longer a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment and a fury of fire that will consume adversaries.

Jacob Arminius defined the unforgivable sin as “the rejection and refusing of Jesus Christ through determined malice and hatred against Christ”. He differed with Calvin in believing that sin could be committed by believers, a conclusion reached through his interpretation of Hebrews 6:4-6.

John Wesley, the father of the Methodist tradition, discussed the unforgivable sin in a sermon titled A Call to Backsliders, stating that this blasphemy is absolutely unpardonable and that for those who have been guilty of this, God will be no more entreated. A prominent Methodist catechism, “A Catechism on the Christian Religion: The Doctrines of Christianity with Special Emphasis on Wesleyan Concepts”, states that for those who have been guilty of this blasphemy, God will be no more entreated.

What are the three sins God will not forgive?

Alma, a prominent figure in the Christian faith, had a profound teaching moment when he interviewed his son, Corianton, who had become involved with the harlot, Isabel. Alma warned Corianton that he was guilty of three abominable sins in the sight of God: denying the Holy Ghost, shedding innocent blood, and committing sexual sin. Adultery was third to murder and the sin against the Holy Ghost. To understand Corianton’s sin, he needed to understand its relationship to the two most abominable sins, enabling him to realize the possibilities of repentance and forgiveness.

Alma distinguished between unpardonable and pardonable sins. Unpardonable sins cannot be paid for through the atoning blood of Christ or personal suffering. The only sin that falls into this category is denying the Holy Ghost. All other sins are forgivable or pardonable because the demands of justice can be met through the atonement of Jesus Christ or personal payment by the sinner.

The Apostle John taught that there is a sin unto death, and there is a sin not unto death. Elder Bruce R. McConkie argued that the death John referred to meant “spiritual death”. There are sins for which repentance does not operate, sins that the atoning blood of Christ will not wash away, and sins for which the sinner must suffer and pay the full penalty personally.

Who was the first witchcraft in the Bible?

Witches have been a topic of debate in the Bible, with one of the earliest records of witches in the book of 1 Samuel dating back to 931 B. C. It tells the story of King Saul seeking the Witch of Endor to summon the spirit of the dead prophet Samuel to help him defeat the Philistine army. The witch roused Samuel, who then prophesied the death of Saul and his sons. The next day, Saul’s sons died in battle, and Saul committed suicide.

Who went to a witch in the Bible?

The Witch of Endor is a female sorcerer in the Hebrew Bible who was visited by Saul, the first king of Israel. Saul had banished all sorcerers and conjurers from his kingdom, but was concerned about the outcome of Israel’s battle against the Philistines. He disguised himself and asked her to conjure up the spirit of the prophet Samuel to tell his fortunes. The woman, who reminded him of the law against practicing her art, assured her that she would be protected.

The spirit informed Saul that he and his three sons would die in battle the next day and that the Israelites would fall to the Philistines. The story of the Witch of Endor has inspired further embellishment of her practices, with Chaucer referring to her as a “pithonesse” and Guillaume de Salluste suggesting she used a “flambeau” made from her son’s fat in her necromantic art.

What is the difference between sorcery and witchcraft?

Anthropologists and social historians have different perspectives on witchcraft and sorcery. They debate whether to conflate them as forms of “mystical power” or make a clear distinction. Witchcraft is often seen as the expression of a malign power in a person’s body, while sorcery involves using magical skills or knowledge to harm or benefit others. Witchcraft is often seen as a consuming force, as the witch consumes the life power of the victim. • I also grew up in an extremely abusive & dysfunctional home. I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour at the age of 17 years old. I still had so much bitterness, but Jesus told me to get rid of my bitterness & forgive my father. I wrote my dad & letter as I couldn’t really talk to him – forgiving him & asking for forgiveness. By no means was this easy & the challenges kept coming. I prayed and prayed and praayyyyyed for my dad and almost 30 years later on his deathbed, I led him to Jesus 💖 Be encouraged my brother and sister, to never give up. This life is fleeting & we must always live & love with eternity in mind! God bless you ❤

  • Wow that reminds me of 2 years ago I had a dream that I came home one day and I couldn’t get in my driveway because it was crawling with snake’s all around my house then the next week I was walking to my house and my entire block was crawling with rats The God of my life was showing me that all the people that I ever helped in my neighborhood was plotting to rob me but I prayed constantly and everytime they tried to rob me I myself witnessed them fail before they even got near me that was psalm 91 Amen and Amen

  • Thank you….I have been praying for my family for so long. Your testimony has encouraged me even more. I’ll never stop praying for them until our Lord and Savior delivers them. I always ask God to open their eyes to see the truth around them and their need for salvation. That they would hear His voice and God would move in their hearts to receive Him and not turn away. God is amazing and He loves His children so and He is not willing that any should perish but that all come to salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord ! Praise God for His Goodness and Mercy ! \\o/

  • ❤I have been a believer since I was 11 years old, I had the incredible joyful opportunity to lead both my mom & dad to the Lord – (25 years later). Today both of them are with Jesus now! Eternal life! Salvation will come to ALL my household because of His promises! Many of my family are still in darkness – in prayer is where I experience the deepest mercy & love of Our Heavenly Father and feel His heart for all of them! I will rejoice in the faithfulness of the Lord! Thank you Jesus!❤

  • This article gives me hope that my prayers for an older friend who is deep into the new age will be answered. I have talked with her about Jesus and how i was born again and set free but she will not give up her occult practises. I will not get discouraged even if it takes me 10 years. I know the power of prayer, i have seen it in my own life. Thank you so much for these encouraging words and your wonderful testimony. God bless you

  • I pray the rapture is soon. Jesus save me. Lord please change my life for the better. Thank you Jesus for never leaving my side, because everyone else has! Jesus! I PRAISE you! Even as I’m struggling providing for my children. I feel like a failure but I will keep faith because faith is all I have left! Since covid I can’t seem to get back on my feet. I lost my job for declining the vaccine. I declined due to my health conditions. I suffer from lupus, and heart disease. I’m now waitressing and so thankful to be working but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. I have two beautiful boys both are autistic. I’m overwhelmed because they require so much from me. Every month is a struggle to not end up on the streets with my boys. I’m struggling buying groceries I’m so discouraged. Jesus hear my cries I’m so tired. But I have faith! Jesus hear my prayers. ❤

  • My grand mother who was a proclaimed Christian was into witchcraft. She killed my father through witchcraft. I saw what she did but at the time I didn’t even know witchcraft existed. When my father died I knew something wasn’t right about his death . So asked God. And He told my grandmother did it. And everything unfolded. When she died I realised that this behaviour would carry on. And my younger sister took on her altar and behaviour. Who now blatantly his into voodoo. The story goes on. She knows that I know what she is doing and she rages evil voodoo at me. It’s so real. I’m dealing with it. But sadly alot of churches and minsters as taken people’s pain to gain money to help them. Those wo needs deliverance must pay thousands to get free. My desire is to help others going through witchcraft and voodoo. I k ow God as saved me from so many near death because of what my sister is doing. He as this edge of fire that protects me. My sisters main goal is to kill me but what was done to may of my generation will NOT be done to me. What killed my father stops at me In jesus name

  • SO much witchcraft/general curses in my life, from former friends, acquaintances, in dreams, both side of my family and my future husband’s family and love ones. I even invited those evil demons myself without knowing. I still can’t believe God revealed to me these altars, blood line sacrifices and evil covenants. I’m in the fight for so many of my people. I know God that what you started your hands will bring it to accomplishment in Jesus name 🙏🏾🔥😭

  • Wow, what a wonderful testimony. God all the glory and honor belongs to You. Hallelujah and may Your name be lifted high Lord Jesus Christ . Bless you my sister for sharing your testimony. I’ve been praying for my family and the more I pray the more the devil uses them to attack me. thank you sister, I agree with your prayer. Let it be done Lord in my family. And other families who are suffering from witchcraft.

  • I suppose if you believe in witchcraft, evil spirits and all of that nonsense you can believe in anything, no matter how outrageous. Education is the answer. Open your mind, read as widely as possible, not supernatural claptrap but philosophy and good literature. I’m 75, mostly self educated, and live by Christian principles. Be kind and considerate of others, enjoy your own life and try to find a person to love. You don’t need religion which is based on fear, threats of damnation and in many cases makes little sense. Religious mania, which is wide spread in America, is damaging to your mental health.
