What Does Astrology’S Placidus Orb Mean?

The tutorial explains how to understand the houses of an astrology chart wheel by looking at the chart wheel itself. Orbs in astrology refer to the degree of separation between two planetary bodies or points in the natal chart, transit chart, or synastry chart. Placidus astrology is a popular system used by many practitioners worldwide to interpret and analyze an individual’s birth chart. This method, also known as the Ptolemaic Method, is a time-proportional house system of movement that utilizes the movement over time on the ecliptic, or the sun’s apparent path through the sky. Each degree of the house system provides a unique perspective on a person’s life and is most widely used when generating a birth chart online.

The Placidus system of houses, also known as the Ptolemaic Method, is a time-based method of calculating the houses that was devised during the Renaissance. It works by marking the cusps of the houses in two-hour increments from your time of birth. The degree of the zodiac sign rising on the Eastern Horizon at your time of birth marks the cusp of the 1st house. In astrology, “placidus” refers to a specific house system for interpreting a birth chart.

In a house system such as Placidus, houses are not all 30 degrees, even when they are, and houses typically don’t begin at zero degrees of a sign. For example, the 3rd House (House III) starts 22º in Scorpio.

In a house system like Placidus, houses are not all 30 degrees, and houses typically don’t begin at zero degrees of a sign. For house positions, it is important to allow a cuspal orb of about 1.5 degrees, as seen with horary. Overall, understanding the houses of an astrology chart wheel is crucial for practitioners to interpret and analyze an individual’s birth chart effectively.

Which is the house of death in the birth chart?

Hindu astrology uses the Vimshottari dasha system and Gochara system for prognostication and timing of events. The 8th house, or Mrityu-bhava, is considered the House of Death by Parasara. The number of Rekhas (malefic points) contributed by Saturn in houses from the lagna to Saturn’s house indicates the age at which adversity will strike the native. The number of rekhas from Saturn’s house to lagna indicates the age at which the native will suffer severe physical adversity, and even death if indicated by the maraka-dasha operating.

Varahamihira states that death will take place in places similar to the rasi occupied by the lord of the navamsa, in which birth falls. Further details or specialities must be described by conjunctions and planetary aspects. The time of death must be identified by the unrisen number of navamsas in the birth.

Narayanan Nambutiri, author of Prasna Marga, states that totaling the bindus in Saturn’s Ashtakavarga from the lagna to the sign occupied by Saturn and from the sign occupied by Saturn to the lagna indicates the age when the native will be attacked by disease or misfortune and the age of troubles. If the end or beginning of a malefic dasha coincides with the age represented by these figures, death may take place.

When Saturn transits the nakshatra represented by the remainder or trinal nakshatra, then death may take place. Multiplying the bindus in the sign occupied by Jupiter or the Sun in Saturn’s Ashtakavarga by Saturn’s Sodya Pinda and dividing by 12 will determine the sign transited by Jupiter or the Sun at the time of death.

What is the difference between whole house and placidus?

The Placidus house division method is based on the concept of time and space, which results in unequal house sizes. In contrast, the whole sign method assigns each house to an entire zodiac sign, which affects house interpretations and astrological analysis.

What is the rarest birth chart?

The Grand Cross, or Grand Square, is a rare natal chart aspect in astrology where four personal planets are separated by 90 degrees on the birth chart, forming a square shape and cross. Each of the four elements of astrology is represented in this cross, with all signs sharing the same modality. The Grand Cross’s energy is conflicting due to the tense and oppositional square aspect, which can create difficulties for the native. This is particularly relevant for those in the Angular, Cadent, or Succedent Houses, as squares and oppositions can create difficulties in finding love.

What is the difference between Placidus and Porphyry?

The Alchabitius house system, a predecessor to the Placidus, is the most commonly used house system in modern Western astrology. It divides the time it takes the ascendant to reach the meridian into three parts, determining the cusps of houses 2, 3, 11, and 12. The cusps of houses 8, 9, 5, and 6 are opposite these. The Placidus system is sometimes not defined beyond polar circles, as certain degrees are circumpolar and planets falling in them cannot be assigned to houses without extending the system.

This weakness of the Placidean system is attributed to its exceptional house proportions in higher latitudes. Named for 17th-century astrologer Placidus de Titis, it was first mentioned in Arab literature around the 13th century. The first confirmed publication was in 1602 by Giovanni Antonio Magini in his book “Tabulae Primi Mobilis, quas Directionem Vulgo Dicunt”. The first documented usage is from Czech in 1627. Placidus remains the most popular system among English-speaking astrologers.

Is Placidus the same as Vedic astrology?

Both Western and Vedic astrology divide birth charts into houses, determining meaning based on planets and signs. Western astrology uses the Placidus house system, while Vedic astrologers use the whole-sign system, where the first house belongs to the ascendant’s sign. Vedic astrology is more complex and may be more accurate and difficult to interpret for novices. Some believe that it provides more acute insights and practical knowledge due to the constant flux of the universe.

Astrologer Reda Wigle, an accomplished writer and astrologer, researches and reports on planetary configurations and their effect on each zodiac sign. Her horoscopes integrate history, poetry, pop culture, and personal experience. She has also profiled artists and performers, chronicled her experiences while traveling, and tackled topics such as cemetery etiquette, dive bars, Cuban Airbnbs, strip clubs, and the “weirdest” foods available abroad. As an indecisive Gemini rising, it is recommended to seek personal readings from experts versed in both schools of astrological thought.

What is tropical and placidus?

The gradual shift in the Earth’s axial precession has resulted in the gradual separation of the constellations and tropical zodiac signs. This phenomenon has led to the development of the Placidus House System, which is currently used for the interpretation of astrological charts.

What is the most powerful house in the birth chart?

The angular houses in the chart are the most powerful, while succedent houses, less powerful but more powerful than the cadent houses, have a quality similar to the angular houses. The second house, which succeeds the first house of the body and personality, signifies the things that belong to the person, while the eighth house, following the seventh house of the partner or spouse, represents the belongings of the other person. Succedent houses have a stable, unchanging, fixed quality, deriving from their central position in each quadrant of the chart.

While some houses have malefic or weak connotations, they are productive houses where matters normally take root and flourish, such as possessions or children. The second house signifies the possessions of the person or event for which the chart was cast, and this meaning has persisted unchanged for several thousand years. Modern astrologers may perceive a correspondence between the second house and the sign Taurus, but traditional astrologers did not. Hellenistic astrologers considered the second house the “Gate of Hades”, leading to the houses beneath the horizon of the chart.

What indicates death in astrology?

The Chhidra grahas are the seven elements that indicate the moment of death in a person’s life. These include the lord of the 8th house, the planet in the 8th house, the planet aspecting the 8th house, the lord of the 22nd drekkana from the lagna, the planet in conjunction with the lord of the 8th house, the lord of the 64th navamsa from the Moon, and the Atisatru (the bitter enemy) to the lord of the 8th house.

Vaidyanatha Dikshita notes six Arishta- dashas, which can bring illness and disease, setbacks, and reverses in the antra-dasha of a planet situated in the 6th or 8th house from the lagna in a sign owned by a papagraha. Death is likely to occur during the 5th dasha of Mars or Rahu, the 6th dasha of Jupiter or the 4th dasha of Saturn, or the dasha of the debilitated planet occupying an inimical sign or occupying Vipata, Nidhana, or Pratyari nakshatra.

The lords of the 2nd and 12th house cause death, with the malefic planet situated in the 2nd house being stronger than the lord of that house. The malefic planet in conjunction with the lord of the 2nd house, who also has the powers of the 12th house lord, is stronger than the malefic planet in the 2nd.

Satsang, a malefic planet associated with planets causing death or with the lord of the 3rd or 11th house, becomes the prime effective maraka to cause death. Saturn situated in the 6th house prolongs life, but death can occur in the dasha of a weak benefic planet occupying the 8th house or the lord of the lagna can give yoga and kill the native.

If the lagna is strong, the Amsayurdaya method is used for calculating longevity, while if the Moon is strong, the Naisargika Ayurdaya method is required.

What house is your soulmate on birth chart?

In an astrology chart, the seventh house represents a sign that represents deeper connection, such as a business partner, life partner, deep friendship, or family member. People with important astrological placements in this house can get along well and accomplish much. The other signs and planets in this house describe the energies the soul is seeking in partner-level connections. If these energies are absent, the soul feels “something is missing” and plans to work with them. If they are absent, objectives go unmet, and the soul becomes restless.

Which is the most powerful planet in astrology?

The Sun, a symbol of the conscious ego, self, power, pride, authority, creativity, spontaneity, health, and vitality, is considered the “life force” in astrology. It has been worshipped since Mesopotamian Religion and is associated with the heart, circulatory system, and thymus. The Sun also plays a crucial role in vitamin D production, aiding the body’s immune system and bone health. In Ayurveda, it governs life-force, pitta, stomach, bones, and eyes.

In modern astrology, the Sun is the primary native ruler of the fifth house, traditionally in the ninth house. The Sun sign is composed of 30 degrees (0-29) and is associated with Sunday. In Dante Alighieri’s music, the Sun is associated with the liberal art of music. In Chinese astrology, the Sun represents Yang, the active, assertive masculine life principle.

  • I prefer Placidus because degrees are very important to me I’m not just “A Taurus rising” I’m a 26 degree Taurus rising conjunct Algol I like a chart that really takes that into account but I totally see the utility of Whole Sign to standardize for horoscopes and prediction and comparisons. The extra messy detail of Placidus is the point!

  • I’ve purchased several natal readings and one of them is the porphyry from Henry Seltzer – Astrograph Software. This is the one that puts my sun in the 12th house. The Placidus puts it in the 11th house. Bear in mind, my sun is in emotional Cancer. Two articles talking about the sun in the 11th house ring AMAZINGLY true. It’s important for me to know which house system to use but most put my sun in the 11th house.

  • Placidus resonate me more. 12H stellium ♐️ saggy sun,Mars, Neptune, mercury, and 27° rising Sagittarius. I wasn’t born here in the US I came here when I was 17 years old. I never grew up with my dad my dad has been working abroad since I was a toddler until I migrated to US. 2nd H moon ♒️ I love collecting different things from crystals, exotic plants, jewelry charms, luxury bags and perfumes. I made some money selling plants when pandemic hits. Having money is very important for me, if I’m depressed I tend to shop sometimes just make myself feel good but I’m getting better not to indulge too much. 10 house MC Pluto ♎️ and NN 10 H ♏️ Scorpio. I work as a Nurse from emergency, cardiac and surgery areas. I’m kinda workaholic, work hard and play hard being a nurse money comes easy for me but I have to have a some sorts of hobby or vacations to re-energize after working hard and taking care of sick people. I love natures, plants, adventures and traveling. I own 2 houses. I have 1St house Venus Capricorn ♑️, Jupiter 25 deg Taurus and Lilith Taurus. I know I’m attractive -people makes comment to me, but having sun in 12h makes sense that I don’t wanna do leadership at work, I tend to give advise at work due to my vast experience and knowledge, and support my colleagues on their leadership roles and people tend to respect me. I tend to speak up for the rights and challenged authorities at work. I got better though, I’m more calmer. I Experienced ghost when I was 19 👻 that’s why 12 h stellium make sense to me.

  • Now that changes everything. Especially for SYNASTRY. Anyhow, Placidus: I’m ♏ Scorpio Rising ⬆️ with ♎ Libra Sun 🌞 in 12th H 🌙 in ♐ Sagittarius 2nd H Mercury in Scorpio ♏ in 12th H Venus in Libra ♎ in 11th H Mars in Virgo ♍ in 11th H Jupiter in Aquarius ♒ in 3rd H Saturn in Scorpio ♏ in 1st Uranus in Sagittarius ♐ in 1st H Neptune in Capricorn in 2nd H Pluto in Scorpio ♏ in 12th H Sun Moon Midpoint in Scorpio ♏ Juno in Scorpio ♏ in 12th H I think and South Node in Scorpio ♏ in 12th H NN in ♉ in 6th H Lilith in ♉ in 6th H Chiron in ♊ in 7th H Fortune in ♑ in 2nd H Vertex in ♒ in 4th H Whole Sign: Sun 🌞 in Libra still in 12th H 🌙 in ♐ in 2nd H Mercury in ♏ in 1st H Venus in ♎ 12th H Mars in ♍ in 11th H Jupiter in ♒ in 4th H Saturn in ♏ in 1st H Uranus in ♐ in 2nd H Neptune in Capricorn in 3rd H Pluto in ♏ in 1st H NN in ♉ in 7th Lilith in ♉ in 7th Chiron in ♊ in 8th Fortune in ♑ in 3rd Vertex in ♒ in 4th Think this makes sense. But I dunno…

  • But I really do resonate more with my placidus because I have a Virgo / Pisces interception and it throws off everything. I’ve had a detailed chart reading based in placidus and it was scary accurate to my childhood and just my life in general, so it’s not even about my feelings. I recently took a look at my whole sign and really none of it resonates with me.

  • I love it when people can adjust themselves based on what they feel is true because it can be very difficult when you have become accustomed to doing things one way. I’m curious to know if you changed strictly because of Mr. Hands opinions or because Placidius wasnt accurate intuitively so you began researching and then found that Hand changed too

  • I just looked at my chart and I’m shook!!!! 🤭🥺♥️♥️♥️ I love my whole sign chart I’m so artistic!!! ♥️♥️♥️✨ thank you love! Thank you so much!!😊 you actually just explained to me (without even saying it lol) why I attract a lot of Virgos, Aquarius, Gemini and Sagittarius men. But more so Sags and Virgos. I’m a Sagittarius rising and my father is a Sagittarius sun (and I believe he is a Aquarius rising with a Gemini moon). And my step father is a Virgo sun, Scorpio moon and Sagittarius rising. And my moon is in Taurus the 6th house. And my sun is in Aquarius in the 3rd house. Whereas in tropical astrology my sun was in the 1st house and my rising was in the 11th house with my moon in the 5th. Anyways my point is that I not only grew up with those energies around me but I have those energies within me too🤭 like bruh! I feel so complete now like omg Lol 😂

  • I have been studying astrology on and off for years but I JUST now became curious about the house systems because with the Placidus house system, my houses skip and double. So I have Sag in the first house, then Aquarius in the second… and then I have 6th and 7th house in gemini, and then Sag in the 12th house again. I got curious about the house systems because I noticed mine weren’t in order and everyone else I knew had their planets in order! I am just curious as to why this is with the Placidus system?

  • Well I think degree of an ASC means something, as the ASC is the horizon, so it should start the wheel of houses and placements. Having that on mind, I think equal houses are more accurate then Whole Sign. I have Sun in 6th house in Whole Signs, but I haven’t found anything that will resonate with it for me. Sun is important for me because it’s rules my chart. On the other hand on Equal or Placidus, my Sun is on the 5th house and almost every description matches my life. I don’t know what to think.
