The Futou, also known as fu (幞) and toujin (頭巾), was one of the most important forms of Chinese headwear in ancient China. It consisted of a black hat with two wing-like flaps and became a common accessory during the Song Dynasty. Futou was originally a black square fabric with four corners, but after covering the top of the head, the two corners were knotted.
The story behind the animals of the Chinese zodiac originates from an ancient Chinese poem telling the story of 12 mythical animals. Who wore futou?
Futou ( simplified Chinese : 幞头; traditional Chinese : 襆頭/幞頭; also pronounced and written as putou ), also known as fu ( 幞 ) and toujin ( 頭巾 ), ( 1 ) was one of the most important forms of Chinese headwear in ancient China with a history of more than one thousand years. ( 2 ) The futou first appeared in Northern Zhou under the reign of Emperor Wu where it became prevalent. ( 2 ) It was also commonly worn in the Tang and Song dynasties. ( 3 ) : 319 The futou was typically worn by government officials. ( 4 ) The futou was originally turban-like headwear which was tied at the back of its wearer’s head, with the two corners going to opposite directions and acting as decorations. ( 5 ) From the Sui to the Ming dynasties, the futou evolved and was developed based on the fujin. ( 2 ) The futou eventually came to assume a variety of shapes and styles. ( 3 ) : 319 The shape of the futou worn by the government officials in the Song and Ming dynasties, the latter known as the wushamao (烏紗帽), was based on the futou of the Tang dynasty. ( 3 ) : 71–72.
The futou was also introduced in both Unified Silla and Balhae ( 6 ) : 135 and continued to be worn by government officials until the late Joseon. ( 7 ) : 25 The futou with a jinzi (lining) was also introduced back in the Sogdian areas in Central Asia spreading to the Western regions through the Xinjiang region. ( 2 ) The futou with jinzi was also introduced in Japan during the Nara period through Prince Shōtaku. ( 2 ) Đại Cồ Việt was introduced to the futou in the late 10th century and adapted various iterations from the Early Lê to the Nguyễn dynasty. ( 8 ) : 171.
The term futou (or putou ) (simplified Chinese: 幞头; traditional Chinese: 襆頭 or 幞頭 ) means “head scarf” or “head-cloth”. ( 3 ) : 319 According to the Mufuyanxianlu by Bi Zhongxun, the original meaning of futou was to “cover one’s head with a black cloth” before the Sui dynasty. ( 9 )
What is Chinese astrology called?
The Chinese zodiac, also known as “Shengxiao” (生肖), is a 12-year cycle represented by 12 animals, including the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The order of these signs is related to the legend of “The Jade Emperor’s Race”, where the first-place winner was the rat, which would claim the first year of the 12-year cycle.
The Chinese zodiac has played a significant role in Chinese culture, with each animal bestowed with unique characteristics that influence a person’s personality, success, and happiness. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, which holds significance for the Chinese New Year and the Chinese zodiac system. Chinese astrology is more complex and nuanced than Western astrology, incorporating not only the 12 Chinese zodiac signs but also the five Chinese zodiac elements—earth, metal, water, wood, and fire—which relate to the yin and yang energy.
Which Chinese zodiac is luckiest in 2024?
The Chinese Horoscope predicts that the most fortunate signs for 2024 are monkeys, roosters, and pigs, while ox, rabbits, goats, and dogs are also considered lucky. However, the year of an animal doesn’t guarantee good fortune, except for those born in the Dragon year, which may bring great things. Work-wise, there may be increased payments and salaries, but love may face conflicts and disagreements. In summary, the Chinese Horoscope predicts a year filled with luck and fortune for those born in the same year.
What are my four pillars in Chinese astrology?
The Four Pillars of Destiny, also known as Ba-Zi, is a Chinese astrological concept that suggests a person’s destiny can be determined by the two sexagenary cycle characters assigned to their birth year, month, day, and hour. This cosmological astrology is also prevalent in South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Originating from the Han Dynasty, the concept was not as systematic as it is today. During the Tang Dynasty, Lǐ Xūzhōng reorganized the concept, using each of the two sexagenary cycle characters to predict a person’s personality and future, making it more popular.

Who wore Hannya masks?
The hannya is a mask used in traditional Japanese Noh theater, representing a jealous female demon with two sharp bull-like horns, metallic eyes, and a leering mouth. The mask’s type changes according to the degree of jealousy, resentment, and anger of the female characters. The hannya is also called chūnari (中成), and the shinjya (真蛇), also called honnari (本成), is a mask that represents the appearance of a female onryō (vengeful spirit) that is even more intense than the hannya.
These masks are classified as jya (蛇, snake) masks. There are over 250 types of Noh masks, but the oldest historical record of Noh masks, Sarugaku dangi (ja), mentions only about 14 types of masks, and the name hannya is not found among them. However, the Sarugaku dangi records a performance of the Noh play Aoi no Ue, and it is possible that snake-like demoness masks such as hannya were used.
What is a Chinese silk robe called?
Hanfu, a traditional Han Chinese clothing, consists of a paofu robe or ru jacket as the upper garment and a qun skirt as the lower garment. It includes accessories such as headwear, footwear, belts, jewelry, yupei, and handheld fans. Hanfu has influenced the traditional clothing of many neighboring cultures, including the Korean Hanbok, Japanese kimono, Ryukyuan ryusou, and Vietnamese áo giao lĩnh. Elements of hanfu design have also influenced Western fashion, especially through Chinoiserie fashion.
Hanfu comprises all traditional clothing classifications of the Han Chinese with a recorded history of more than three millennia. Each succeeding dynasty produced their own distinctive dress codes, reflecting the socio-cultural environment of the times. Silk clothing was initially used for decorative and ceremonial purposes, but the cultivation of silk led to the development of weaving, including brocade, damask, satin, and gauze.

52:32 I’ve always thought of Giratina as a caretaker of the Distortion World– helping keep balance between the two worlds, preventing meeting of matter and antimatter as he’s the best guy to go between and makes sure neither world damages the other by major distortions on one side Err… this job he still took up after being a punishment by the way, due to his antimatter gifts
Holup! Spiritomb is “bound to a fissure in a keystone”, “as punishment for misdeeds 500 years ago”. And it was first found here in Sinnoh, which used to be Hisui.. how long ago does Legends Arceus take place? I doubt they’d ever do any kind of a connection like that, that would be way too interesting of them.
I think Honcrow’s red tail is supposed to be a reference to a bouquet of roses. Roses can have multiple meanings here, from a rose being a symbol of secrecy to a calling card after a murder to left as a sign of respect after said murder. I swear the rose meaning used to be on the bulbapedia article but has since been removed, it certainly looks more like a bouquet of roses more than a broom.
When the potential ice cream connection with Mime Jr. was brought, I thought that it would be interesting if that had partially something to do why Galarian Mr. Mime was an ice type. As far as the Gible line goes, since they’re a land shark and we have Sharpedo as the regular aquatic shark, it would be interesting if we one day got a Pokémon meant to be a sky shark. It could either be a new Pokémon species, a regional variant of Sharpedo, or a regional variant of the Gible line.
49:49 Maybe that’s what makes Heatran special or a legendary? Whereas the other legends represent dimensions, he’s a representation of the Earth’s core, the manifestation of the Earth’s heart– in the same way a Tarrasque is the representation of the Material plane. Also, also! Heatran being a Lava Dome, well we can say the Earth’s core is kinda made up of two Lava Domes. In the 4th Gen games, there are two known Heatran: the one in Stark Mountain we catch, and the one being used in Palmer’s team in the Battle Tower! That’s 2 Lava Dome Pokémon– also might explain Heatran having genders, a male and a female exists everytime for the core?
I think Lockstin actually made a article about this a few years back, but I like the idea that Giritina is the embodiment of gravity, not antimatter. Gravity is widely theorised to relate or link time and space, as well as the distortion realm literally having its own laws of gravity with the upside down waterfalls, floating land in all different directions.
I think you had a article at one point arguing that Giratina might be closer related to gravity than antimatter (which could make sense given that “antimatter” is so similar sounding to “dark matter,” which itself it associated with gravity. The biggest reasons why I think that idea is likely are that the distortion world clearly has bizarre gravity within it, and also the fact that Giratina is the third member of a time-space trio. General Relativity famously states that gravity isn’t really its own thing, but is rather a distortion of space and time, making it a very natural third member.
30:57 this frog is also sometimes called the wolverine frog because marvel, and there is a similar one that does that with its *vertebrae*. Yes. Its spine has little spikes that it can stab through its own skin as a defense mechanism if it is being attacked, eaten, or about to be eaten. You get the picture
25:49 I would also like to add that Munchlax and Snorlax also likely pull from the same inspiration pool as Totoro and his little mini-Totoros that follow him around. See: Big belly, bearlike design, tendency to sleep a lot, Munchlax’s body shape being nearly identical, right down to his triangular ears sticking straight up.
Cherubi is one of those -mon’s that I’ll likely never use, but I quite like the concept. The little face on the nutrient ball always had me blinking and feeling odd. Also, I looked up several of the things you mentioned, and I only had to type in a few letters. Hopefully, this means that this article is getting a lot of views. =)
10:27 one thing I like to mention about combee and Vespiquen is that a female combee has a dot on one of its heads (the bottom one) which could reference the fact that a hive can create a new queen bee by feeding a larval worker bee royal jelly, which turns them into a queen! That and in the world of bee keeping queens are often marked with a dot so beekeepers can easily spot them.
I swear, Darkrai and Cressalia in the Pokemon Journeys series were in love, they gave me a forbidden love feel, but at the same time, Darkai went to save Cressalia and those two were happy to be together. Even more when Chloe says that when Darkrai returns to New moon island, Cressalia leaves and goes to full moon island which are islands beside each other. Cressalia has no reason to stay by Darkrai’s side, but she does and I find it pretty romantic in a sense.

2:49 To add to this, in the Ramayana there is a very popular chapter where Hanuman burns the arrogant demon king Ravana’s city with his burning tail, which is very subtly referenced in Monferno’s fiery tail. The Chimchar line is my favourite Pokemon, I’m really excited to go back to my favourite region with my own ‘Hanuman’ 😍🐒
It might be a stretch but Piplup might be a reference to the main character of Charles Dickens’ ’great expectations’ “pip”. The novel is all about class conflict and in the progress of the book, Pip inherits wealth and becomes higher classed so that might be what is going on with Piplup becoming Empoleon
Ok, so some things I noticed: Dialga has 12 metal toes, and twelve upwards metal spikes (5 in the back, 3 in the neck, 2 in the chest and 2 in the head). Palkia might also be based on a Iguanodon, with it’s thumb sticking out. Also, Heatran is based on cockroaches that live radiation and that’s why it learns Bug Bite
Dunno if anyone said it or not, but on the topic of Palkia’s Space Sea thing, we use a lot of nautical terms when it comes to space such as “Space Ship”. More so than Aerial terms. Often in Sci-Fi movies space battle ships and officer rankings are often in Naval nature like Dreadnought and Frigate or Battleship and Admiral or Captain. And escape pods in said movies act like lifeboats.
I actually think it’s more likely that, even though Luxray’s line is partially based on the lynx, that it ties into the constellation Leo instead of the constellation lynx. The way Luxray’s body, leg placement, and tail look when viewed from a side profile quite nicely matches the shape of the constellation leo. It’s tail even does the swoopy thing that the constellation and zodiacal symbol for leo does. So I don’t think it’s a stretch that this line pulls inspiration from both lynx and lions, especially Luxray.
This generation introduced a lot of my favorite pokemon. And gave some fantastic evolutions to Pokemon that really needed them. My profile picture is literally an image I made in paint fusing Glaceon with Dialga. It’s definetely not professional, but I still think Dialga’s features look nice on my favorite pokemon.
If you want to do another Pokémon battle royal. I would love to see multiple battle royals where each generation fights each other but leaving out the old generation. So for example start with all but the legendary and mythical Pokémon from gen 1 to fight each other, then make another article about the Pokémon from gen 2 fight each other and try to leave out most to all the gen 1 Pokémon. I just thought this was a cool idea.
Munchlax always had me think it was also based on those trash bins that you step on the pedal and the top flips up, because it has that big straight-line mouth. Also, I don’t remember which (or whose) possible region variants article showing Snorlax(es) that lived in a snowy area, but… we can all agree an ice-type Snorlax would have to be named “Chillax”, right?
On the Garchomp line: Engines aren’t mounted on the wings in modern combat warplanes, they’re in the fuselage. The intakes are what result in the “smiley faces” you’ve probably seen on next-gen mockups. Those pods are more likely external fuel tanks or sensor pods, which would make their placement pretty on the nose.
Arceus always gave me a hint of amaterasu who is a goddess but the form reminds me of the version from the game okami with one of her weapons being a link of pointed golden beads that I think looks alot like the gold around arceus waist amaterasu in the game is often called by other god like characters as mother to all
I can see a movie were Rosarade is a professional thief who attends a party thrown by Emploleon to steal some jewelry it has. Rosearades humorous sidekick would be Badoof who evolves at the worse time and Empoleons security team is a Vespiqueen and Combees. Chimchar and his evolution line are the cooks and servers
Seeing heatran connection with a mapuche lava monster is amazing, because there is an even more obvious mapuche relation with Pokemon, Cai Cai Vilu and Tren Tren Vilu, 2 snakes that control water and earth and hate each other. In Mapuche mithology, Cai Cai Vilu wanted to destroy everything on land so Tren Tren Vilu made montains to save people and animals. This is can clearly relate to Kyogre and Groudon.
I still consider Giratina to be the god of Gravity, as its chaotic realm has lots of gravitational pulls and influences, whereas it has barely anything to do with antimatter (at least in the games, it has some inspiration in the movie. And due to gravity being a destructive force to both space and time it makes sense I guess – black holes, gravity wells, supernovas…
Piplup is not based off of a “generic penguin,” it’s actually a fairy penguin. Fairy penguins are also known as little blue penguins, they’re the smallest penguin when full grown and their feathers have a shiny blue hue. The Pokémon that prinplup is based off of are not called “crested penguins,” but rather rockhopper or macaroni penguins (two different but similar species). The bird shown when he says “gray starling” is a European starling. There is no species of bird called a gray starling, but European starlings are gray as juveniles.
Did you know: in a gen 4 starter free for all, whoever wins is the one infernape doesnt attack. Infernape gets the first move, he could go after torterra or empoleon, if he attacks empoleon, torterra uses Earthquake and wins. If he attacks torterra, empoleon uses hydro Pump and wins. No matter what, infernape loses and it is a Toss of the coin between the other starters.
Protoceratops isn’t an ancestor of horned dinosaurs, but represents a primitive line that persisted till the end of the Cretaceous. Also worth noting is that the Cranidos line is a bit backward in it’s growth compared to it’s main inspiration. Cranidos is based closer to Pachycephalosaurus (or perhaps it’s smaller cousin Stegoceras) based on the high dome and bumps on the back of the skull, but the Rampardos form draws greater inspiration from Stygimoloch, which is named for its spiky skull. Keep in mind that over the last few years, the dinosaurs Dracorex and Stygimoloch are regarded as young forms of Pachycephalosaurus based on skull development. Also what’s fun about the Shieldon and Cranidos forms are that they’re both very close relatives. Both horned dinosaurs and dome-headed dinosaurs belong to the group Marginocephalia – a Class of dinosaurs known for having a strange structure on the back of their skull. Sea Scorpions aren’t the ancestors of scorpions. They’re closer in relation to Horseshoe Crabs.
Cherubi and Cherrim’s names seem to take inspiration from Cherubs. The technically correct plural form of Cherub is Cherubim, which could be where Cherrim’s name comes from, but most other types of angels also have similar plural forms, for example the plural of seraph is seraphim. I guess naming them after angels is fitting since Cherrim gets stronger when it’s sunny.
Should be noted: Rampardos almost certainly doesn’t take from Dracorex because Dracorex wasn’t described (and therefore, known to people outside of the palaeontology sphere) until the same year than DP released. Its much more developed spikes have more in common with the larger Stygimoloch. Also both might’ve been not real so there’s that. Meganeura also wasn’t a Dragonfly. Not a true one, anyway. While its order, Meganisoptera, was formerly thought to be part of the same order as Dragonflies, Odonta, or at least a more basal version of it, further study has confirmed the absence of distinctive features. They’re more correctly called Griffinflies.
Names of my sri lankan pokemon, Tatu Tevat, Itti Tevat, and Vil Tevat, the Volcanic Guards, of the legendary, Temprius. The Volcanic Guards each have Fairy/Steel types with 470 BST. Tatu specializes DF. Itti in Atk. And Vil in Speed. The each have an ability named Fae ____, depending on the guard, and the ability is the same, buff fairy and allies, but with a different stat. They each have an EV yield of 3. This fan Region is being developed btw.
Giratina could also have some origins from Magatsu-Izanagi, a being that looked like Izanagi and was he’s internal rival that formed chaos behind Izanagi, Giratina does has a little of the same traits lugia has so who knows, also it’s said that izanami turns evil at some point, legends might have palkia go rouge????? But that’s just a theory
