What is the importance of Midheaven?

The Midheaven, also known as your “MC” or Medium Coeli, is a placement within the Tenth House of legacy that reveals your aspirations, ambitions, and public perception. It is linked to your professional path, career goals, and the image you project to the world. While some refer to your Rising Sign as the “mask you wear in public”, your Midheaven is better suited for reflecting your external energy.

It can help determine the best professional path for your personality, such as a Cancer Midheaven excelling in teaching, nurturing, or community building environments, or a Sagittarius Midheaven motivating travel, exploration, and philosophical adventures, such as journalism or academia.

What is Midheaven in traditional astrology?

Astrologers often attribute the midheaven to having the most significant influence on a person, ruling various aspects such as glory, distinction, honors, popularity, and fame. The word “career” comes from the midheaven, where the Sun’s chariot appears at its highest. Aristocrats, who had available careers, saw a career as defining their life, including charity, education, and publishing. Those in education did not earn a living teaching, but their course in life was defined by their relationship with the academy.

Before the time of Manilius and Firmicus, the cursus honorum was a clearly defined ladder, with Patricians starting in the military, serving ten years, then becoming cops. Only after that could they work in law-making professions. The highest rung was dictatorship, while the common man was represented by those in the Tribune of the Plebs, which held non-Patricians with immense capital. Career was therefore tied to status under the state.

What is ruler of Midheaven astrology?

Knowing your Midheaven (MC) or sign, along with its planetary ruler, can provide insights into your talents. To find the MC, you need to know your 10th house sign and birth time. Generate a free natal chart and look for the vertical line marked MC, representing your MC at birth. The planetary rulers of your MC are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Each sign has its own ruler, and understanding your MC can provide insights into your unique talents. The planetary rulers of your MC can be found in a free natal chart.

What is your Midheaven in astrology?

The Midheaven (MC) is a sign in astrology that represents your public persona, career path, goals, achievements, social standing, and reputation. It is located at the cusp of the tenth house on a birth chart and is known as the Medium Coeli. The MC sign influences your career path, goals, achievements, social standing, and reputation. It reflects traits that authority figures like employers and teachers will likely notice in you. Examining your Midheaven can provide insights into which career paths align with your natural abilities and help you understand what you are best suited to contribute professionally.

Is Midheaven same as Lilith?

The Lilith in your natal chart represents the personality traits that are not readily apparent to the general public. These traits are aligned with your Midheaven, which symbolizes your public image and career. This suggests that themes of independence, rebellion, and challenging societal norms are significant in your life.

Can MC be in 9th house?

The MC and IC are subject to influence from the house in which one belongs. Thus, a person in the 9th house may pursue careers in education, law, astrology, spirituality, or travel.

What is Midheaven in Indian astrology?

The Midheaven, or MC, is a significant point in a person’s natal chart that significantly impacts their public image and personal aspirations. It is located at the top of the chart and represents a person’s high point in life, including their career, societal standing, and vocation. The Midheaven’s influence is particularly evident in public life, where it rules vocation, reputation, and social status. The sign on the Midheaven and any planets near it provide insight into a person’s life and aspirations.

What is the difference between Midheaven and ascendant?

The midheaven sign, often confused with the rising sign, is a more direct expression of an individual’s personality. It relates more directly to career, public life, and reputation, pointing towards the outward expression of one’s individuality. Learning your midheaven sign can help understand your professional and social life. Aries midheavens, being the first sign of the zodiac and passionate fire sign, are excellent self-starters and confident entrepreneurs.

They may be happier working for themselves or owning their own business than having a boss. However, they can be stubborn and lack follow-through. They also tend to act impulsively, taking business risks but also getting into trouble. If your midheaven is in Aries, it is important to connect with your instincts, such as meditation, to separate healthy impulses from unhealthy ones. Astrology is meant to be fun, but it is important to remember that the midheaven is only one aspect of a complex person’s natal chart.

What is the 10th house in Vedic astrology?

What is the 10th house in Vedic astrology?

Karmasthana, also known as Kirtisthana and Rajyasthana, is the 10th bhava or house in Hindu astrology, indicating the rank, status, authority, command, ruling powers, means of livelihood, respect, honor, father, living abroad, debts, and other aspects. It is considered the house of occupation, profession, means of livelihood, temporal honors, foreign travels, self-respect, knowledge, and dignity.

The analysis of this house requires studying the strength of the house, its lord, its occupants, its karakas and planets aspecting it, and the different yogas bearing on it. According to Hindu astrology, signs owned by natural benefics are auspicious, while signs owned by odd signs, prashtodaya signs, and natural malefics are not. Beneficis become more benefic by occupying shirshodya signs.

However, natural malefics that are not evilly inclined and strong in shadabala (occupying own, friendly or exalted rasi, hora, drekkena, navamsa, dwadasamsa, and trimsamsa) confer good results if they are not evilly inclined and are strong in shadabala. Thus, benefics occupying benefic vargas are aspected by benefics, while natural benefics weak in shadabala and occupying evil vargas are aspected by evil planets.

In summary, Karmasthana is a crucial aspect of Hindu astrology, indicating the importance of occupation, profession, means of livelihood, and other aspects of life.

Is Midheaven your 10th house?

The ruling sign of the 10th house cusp, also known as the midheaven, is crucial for understanding one’s career path and public reputation. The midheaven, symbolized by “MC” or “middle of heaven”, can provide insight into the reputation one is meant to leave behind. The midheaven and rising sign are both outer-facing aspects of one’s personality, but the rising sign focuses more on first impressions and interpersonal aspects.

To calculate a natal chart, use your birth date, time, and location, and look for a vertical line marked by an “MC”. The sign intersecting with this line is the 10th house ruler and midheaven sign, as it was in the midheaven when you were born.

  • Molly, you are hands down THE BEST teacher of astrology out there that I have encountered! And I’ve been trying my hardest to understand the energies of it for years. Thank you for ALL that you for your community. Keep shinning that amazingly beautiful light of yours. Merry Christmas to you and your family. And may the new year bring you an abundance of love, good health and prosperity. 🙏🏻💜🎄 Thank you again.

  • My natal moon resides in the 12th house (hidden enemies, isolation, subconscious mind, etc) and I spent my all of my 20s battling my mother’s toxic energy in the 10th (natal Mars and Venus reside there) and my 30s clearing it out. It’s been quite the journey. I’m grateful to be doing it before I have children. #HealThyself #ConsciousParenting

  • Wow! I was just thinking about that IC yesterday and that I need to know what it means. You are extremely intuitive and timely with your messages. My natal chart indicates Saturn in the 4th house. My Mother was a highly volatile, impatient, aggressive, and had no concern for my well-being as a child but she was a good provider of material goods. I ran away from home at 13. My much younger brothers had experiences of their own. I literally forgot in my 20s. In my early 30s, that pain resurfaced in my dreams causing me nightmares with intense crying. It took me a year to work through and I forgave her. I think my childhood was an initiation involving bullying and victimization from a variety of directions (indecent liberties by a bad uncle and other unwanted male attacks from various people). Casting off the aura of victim by forgiveness for all was a salvation and freedom for me. I am a mother who has loved her own children by balancing my love with the wisdom of my experiences. My Capricorn mother (Mountain top) is turning 76 in January and I think her children may have shown her what parenting looks like. We have adapted and we speak fairly often.

  • Oh Molly….. so so true! My 2 sisters were ” mean to me growing up” they were jealous! It breaks my heart still! My brother and I are closer! I was painted as the ” Black sheep ” because I love being outside in nature, sports and hanging with my friends! But this ” Black sheep” was the ONE taking care of our sick parents the most,Image that!!! Yes one parent my Mom was there for me / us….. Yes my Dad was in the 10th house he had a VERY STRONG WORK ETHIC and FAMILY TIES, he was the ROCK!

  • WOW! I was this person, I didn’t want to follow any old patterns from my parents or my siblings ways. I didn’t want to follow the old ways of doing things. I always thought I could do better. I went on my own path, and taught my children You always can do better than me. Much Love Molly. You know I appreciate YOU. 🕊🙏🏽💚👏🏼🎄

  • Interesting topics Molly, I have IC and southnode conjunct 22-24 Pisces, so this year Neptune comes along together with Jupiter in april while simultaneously Venus return is also in Pisces sextiling Uranus. It looks like a total letting go energy. Dont know what to expect but being a spiritual hermit it feels like a spiritual climax and i look forward to it. Thank you Molly for helping me and us to better understand the journey.

  • Have just been wondering about the IC after thinking that perhaps the very intense Christmas and falling out with my brother, and the repercussions of that with other family, may have something to do with Chiron currently hovering over my IC (and very close, too, to Mars in Aries in 4th at 9 degrees). Tho’, it could also have been to do with Saturn/Uranus and Venus/Pluto… or all of the above!!! Anyway, once again, thank you, Molly, for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. When in doubt I always check to see what you’ve been sharing and it’s always spot on and timely. You are a guiding light. Onwards!

  • Thanks Molly! Happy Winter Wishes for you 🙂 I have 5 planets in 10th house all in Aries. and one in 4th so I appreciate this article 🙂 in my childhood perseverance, hard work, being educated and be professional, and making a good difference were values that were passed on to me. But I did not want to miss my child’s childhood to careerism so I didn’t work as much in that way. Now she is getting older I am focusing on work more. But misheaven is in Pisces with all those planets in Aries idk….?

  • I have a Cancer Ascendant and I think I have a strong Uranus because it says Uranus Cancer 22°59’23 in house 1 direct. I relate to these recent articles you have been posting because everything you are saying makes sense to me and you are talking about why we are all different. Thank you for posting Molly you are awesome. Happy Holidays

  • This was so interesting and fascinating! I have Leo/Cancer on 10th (with my Sun/Mercury/North Node)/9th house(with my Mars) and Aquarius (My Moon/South Node)/Capricorn on my 4th/3rd house. I very much looked up to my Mother (who’s Leo Pluto is conjunct my Leo Sun/MC and Cancer Ascendant conjunct my Mars) but was taught to follow the group/crowd/family dynamic including my public image (Mom even picked my prom dress for me), and career (went into healthcare but wanted to write) that I later rebelled against. While my Dad was someone who was always working, not in the picture for a while, was cold and distant.

  • Molly. I haven’t listened to all of this yet but as I lie here in front of the fire with the rain against the window I remember your words to be kind to myself even though I feel very down caught between Saggi hope and Cancer retreat and sorrow. Very reflective about the description you gave of being visited by Christmas past. I want to be joyful for others but I don’t have the energy so for now I just want to say thank you for often verbalising what we can’t always express in words and for being our regular companion on this journey. I hope we all see a positive shift in the new year or at least a level of acceptance and spiritual fulfilment. X grateful for your continued support during bumpy times. Wishing you a happy holiday season. 🙏🏼 Third in Pisces and then 4th also in Aries and Taurus

  • Always useful and interesting. My childhood is not a great memory. True node in ♒️ 3rd 🏠 mt 4th 🏠 mt 5th. Lucky Jupiter ♉️ 6th. Otherwise I’m always an emotional soul chiron with moon in ♑️ I figure it out. With your insights. Is it worth it to follow astrology at almost 70? Take what resonates and walk with it. Merry Christmas. Miss Molly. Good golly! You are good to listen to.

  • 🎁Happy to wake up to another gift from you Molly! This is awesome as in my studies I’ve found most attention is paid to the MC but not the IC. Understanding them together as my family dynamic history and how that has shaped me is key with Venus on my MC and Saturn near my IC. Lightbulb moment! And with Uranus and Pluto conjunct my sun, now knowing why I had to transform all that and go my own way. It seems like oppositions on this axis highlight a strong push/pull dynamic with these energies as well?

  • So much to learn! Cancer is in my fourth house as is my North Node. My 9th house is Sagittarius and its empty and my 10th house is Capricorn and it’s empty as well. I have been told my midheaven is Scorpio which is my 8th house🤷🏼‍♀️ Not sure what to make of this🤔 Thank you Molly as always for your Wonderfully educational articles😊🙏

  • My IC Pisces 8°, 3rd is Aquarius. (Board as hell in school) Venus 8° conjunct IC 9th Jupiter conjunct Pluto, Leo, lived in Belgium and Guatemala ♥️ 10th Virgo, definitely my dad, who’s moon was in Cancer, he was more my mom. ( Sister, Pisces, 11 years older) Great connection to your explanation. Thank you! Merry Christmas Molly 🎄

  • My twin sister and I are the chain breakers of generational patterns and have compiled a panacea system with online courses to overcome epigenetic inherited, therefore liberating our selves and the entire generational system. We have a lot of aspects in our fourth and 10th house. I would like to understand more in terms of how it correlates to our astrology.

  • Thank you Molly🙏❤️, This info has been very helpful to me. I’m currently healing from emotional abuse from my mother and this is very helpful in understanding my chart. I’ve been studying my own chart for some time and the charts of family. I use the sidereal astrology. Would this access be the same for this?

  • Thanks, Molly! I love learning this information. This helped me understand my family’s 4th houses. I have one degree in Aries in the 4th while the rest is Taurus. That makes sense. My last past life I died as a mountain climber (not sure what he did for a living, but I could probably find him listed in an old directory). My midheaven falls in Libra (9th house).

  • Wow, that was illuminating and so easily digested. I do appreciate your teaching/sharing style. This unveiling of the MC and IC had me feeling a little vulnerable, as I can see some of my past life’s and my childhood so plainly now. It also helps to confirm my direction and journey at this point of my life. So exciting. Sending Christmas season cheer and blessings.

  • Merry Christmas from Berlin and thank you for your explaination – have nearly all planets in the 3rd house and all others empty – had an incredible life but the passed years very strange … as a 29/12 born feeling my purpose but too big to get it done alone … so what to do in times when everyone is just selfcentered?

  • 3rd house Pisces… NN in Pisces… also mercury in 3H conjunct IC but in Aries… so yes Aries rules my 4H where my sun resides… also conjunct the IC… then Jupiter in Taurus in my 4H and almost in my 5H… by sheer seconds is it not in the 5H. Now if we are using whole signs yes it is 5h. Libra is my 10H ruler so Virgo 9H. My SN is in Virgo 9H and thats the only major planet or point in those two. Funny thing is that my mom is a Virgo sun and she is very important to me. I have been blessed with a family that loves and cares for me although things were not perfect growing up they taught me the best they could even while healing their own trauma and bullshit… I didn’t understand that as a younger kid and even in my 20s. But now I get it. My parents are going to be divorced soon and it hurts as a 33 year old. Can’t imagine being a kid going thru it. Love n light to all.

  • I will always remember both of my parents are the ones who “choses” a male to become my mate, and that is not my things on earth, forcing me to marry someone, who is stable enough to feed me amd my future children blah blah blah, this is not me at all, it is really a heartbreaking challenge that sometimes or most of the time, I become my 10th house associated, of course, with my 4th house. 😊

  • My Cancer Sun T Squares my Aneretic IC/MC and Pluto is opposing my Sun till it leaves Capricorn. I’m especially enjoying Venus Retrograde on this ….. not (in Borat’s voice) My Cancer Asc T Squares my Nodes. I’ve been pushing 500 litres of diarrhoea up a 55° incline with a cake fork my whole life. I was born probation. I was the cause of a shotgun wedding. My mother consummated her marriage to my father by having sex with another man ….. on her wedding night. I know, l was there, 2 months gestating as it were. And that was just the start …

  • 💚💚💚💚 I can definitely agree with this. All I want is to be at home, but there is such a big part of me that asks a million questions. I always want to know more and explore all the endless possibilities of the answers to those millions of questions. I am learning how to balance it little by little. Thank you for doing this article!

  • It’s so frustrating because I always feel like I have to justify before I literally say anything that I’m not a know-it-all. Because people always assume that I think I’m going to know it all. Like whenever my family says oh I forgot you’re a know it all I just be like yep at this point. 🤣 Even though I feel like in this human body we don’t even have the capacity to know it all only in spirit. And even then is it even possible to know it all? Like I get there just saying as a figure of speech but it’s still.

  • This is my placement and i’am hurt and isolated with loneliness because even before the virus people ran away from me because I talk too much. My mother said I sound like a preacher. I never asked for this and its a situation that keeps people away=std’s away. Nobody wants to be preached to. (Don’t preach to me) Tape my voice and give it to myself instead of somebody else. Sweet & sugarless self talk. No screams.

  • 💚💚💚💚 A very different take on what I’ve heard out there about this placement and it was sooooo well received !! Ever since the pandemic started, I’ve THRIVED being at home! I naturally thought going back to work was best because I’m East Coast oriented but I truly wish I would have given more time at home because I was really doing my thing! I had a schedule planned out (Virgo Sun), was spending a lot of time on creating (Jupiter in 5th) and studying occult sciences (8th house stellium)… I was the happiest and most fulfilled at home ! So thank you so much for this! I always here that this placement is best at traveling… and I LOVE to… but I always book a week so I can really go through the phases of arriving, settling, and being over it lol… ultimately I always miss HOME by the end of the week and can’t wait to get back in my space away from the world! I think my Aquarius Rising / North Node adds to that LOLOL! Thank you for this analysis 🖤🖤

  • It’s wild when I see the careers for my Sag midheaven, sag Sun and moon, and they’re all legit like yup. I want to do all of that. I want to act, write, teach, dance, travel, find solutions, give people counsel. I just wish I had more aspirations with my sign that wasn’t mostly starving artist careers

  • Wow. I can feel in my heart that if I wanted to gain notoriety, or be larger than life, I know I can do that. But I DONT want to be famous. I don’t want to be ‘known’ even though I know so many people. I knew it didn’t want to be famous even when I was young I wanted to be an actress and be on stage but had this dread of thinking of losing my privacy. So wild. Everything you said was accurate! I am always learning and teaching and people seek my ‘counsel’ even if I’m not close to them. I dropped out of school in 9th grade and no one ever believes that. I do have that know it all energy lmao but mostly my family just gets on me about that. I’m trying to learn what strengths I should play on based on my chart and see where the adventure takes me haha great article! I will subscribe

  • Thank u for the explanation I didn’t know what the mid heaven was about. You explaine me so well …. I wish I could have people hear this when they say I’m being difficult. Lol …. When I don’t know the answer i do try and know as much as I can do next time I’m ready. I love to be home but I love to out doing what I love to do. But I do find my self always being at home. 💚 Can’t wait to hear about the rest of me
