Lucky, the official mascot of Texas A and M University-Commerce, is a beloved symbol of the university’s pride and school spirit. The first football team at East Texas Normal College, now Texas A and M University-Commerce, was formed in 1915 and was known as the Lions. After Tommie Dodd’s graduation, two students elected by the student body served as the official lion and lioness mascots each year, becoming known as Lucky and Lucy.
A and M-Commerce is an All-Steinway School, a designation bestowed by the prestigious Steinway and Sons piano company. The university is also the world’s first institution to receive a Spirio Technology designation. A and M-Commerce logos and names are legally registered in and protected by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Why is Texas A&M’s mascot a dog?
Reveille, the official mascot of Texas A and M University, was adopted in 1931 by students. During World War II, cadets raised $100 to make Reveille a general, making him the highest-ranking member of the Texas A and M Corps of Cadets. Eight years later, a Shetland Sheepdog was donated to be the second official Aggie mascot, Reveille II. The third Reveille was the first purebred Rough Collie, and all subsequent mascots belonged to this breed. Reveille IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII died in 1989, 1999, 2003, 2013, and 2018, respectively.
Reveille IX served from May 9, 2015, until her retirement on April 30, 2021. The current mascot, Reveille X, assumed her role on April 30, 2021, during the Corps of Cadets Final Review. All Reveilles to date have been female. When they die, they are buried in a special cemetery outside the north end of Kyle Field, facing the south end zone and the scoreboard. A small scoreboard was placed outside the stadium, named the Reveille Scoreboard, to continue the tradition.
