It bothers me alot that so many people just assume that he must have relapsed. As a huge Mathew Perry fan, I read his book when it came out and I have watched all his interviews for his book tour. He made it clear that Pickle ball was his new addiction. As addicts, we tend to have an addictive personality (I turned to food in the beginning of my recovery, then online games that I spent way too much money on) Mathew played Pickle ball the night he died. IF he would have relapsed, he would no longer need pickle ball, trust me. I wish they could rush the tox screen so this man can be remembered as Clean and Sober, helping others.

I think my dear Mother had a premonition of her impending death. on May 1, 1960, she and my Daddy left on a Friday night for a weekend fishing trip in La. My brother was 16 and I was barely 14 at the time. As teens, we didn’t want to go, so we stayed with our Grandmother and Aunt. We received the nightmare news on Sunday that my parents had drowned. During the day on Friday, Mother had gone to a neighbor who had a hair salon to have her hair done. The lady told us later, after hearing the news, that Mother kept talking about death. She said that she tried changing the subject several times to no avail. She said it was eerie. My parents were only 40 and 41 years of age. I’ve heard of many other people who have had premonitions.

He couldn’t have felt healthy, his body had been so abused, he was only 54 but sadly he probably felt 94,his mind & body were breaking down rapidly from alcohol & drug abuse. When my baby sister finally got off of drugs & alcohol abuse at 33 her doctor told her that she had the body of a 60 year old woman, even after she stopped everything. It’s tragic
I believe his passing had something to do with his cardiac system with previous history of arrests twice. The combination of extreme exertion and the hot tub I have read are not good when one has problems with the circulatory system, and the manner in which he was found also adds to my suspicion. If he were able, he could have just stood up. The only comfort I think there is in all of this is that his passing was quick, he did not suffer long, and he was enjoying life again prior to his demise. With as many people as he touched and as many people who loved him, I have not a doubt that he is also enjoying his afterlife peacefully and happily.
Addiction from benzos and alcohol can be deadly for anyone. So withdraw efects also. Especialy for an old tired body of all fights against demons of depresion. His rehab buddy and a close friend have said that he was never truly sober, and was very manipulative to try to fool people that he was. Some of these initial speculations of him relapsing and/or committing suicide were quite offensive and insensitive to the person who just passed away, but that’s the internet for you. Even though you hardly want to believe the worst of someone so beloved, you simply can not bypass the social stigma of some of his choices. It’s human to come to such conclusions. That said, if there’s one thing everyone can agree upon, it is the fact that he was a sad/broken person at his very core. He had a tendency to lothe himself for his unhealthy habits. This is something not common to all addicts. Deep depression, loneliness coupled with a lack of a strong sense of being can do things to you, which can quite literally be unexplainable, much like how things transpired after his passing. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation of what actually happened to him during his final hours and whether or not his family will ultimately choose to share that information with the world, we should just stick to paying our respects devoid of personal speculations. Someone who already overshared with fans about some of his lowest points in life shouldn’t have to be subjected to scrutiny at such lengths after his death. He wasn’t waterlogged and he had no water in his lungs, so he didn’t drown in that hot tub. There also was no evidence of a heart attack. Relapse is SO easy to assume. My dad drowned in a hot tub. Soaking in hot/warms baths l, Jacuzzis or hot tubs can cause seiurzes, severe dehydration…. which some prescription drugs cause dehydration as well…… so cardiac issues etc……I dont understand why so many people are let astray by social media and just go with what they are told. This stuff happens and could ironically be an unfortunate event.

people who have hot tubs on their property use them a lot. so posting a picture in his hot tub does not appear disturbing to me. he likes batman and probably felt a connection since he has helped so many people with sobriety( drugs and alcohol being evil) . most people in recovery don’t use prescriptions and he said to his friend the day before that he was unsure about ordering a pepsi because of the caffine. so not sure about the prescriptions they found. I think it was a health issue brought on by the hot water. they do say people over 50 with underlying health issues should not use hot tubs and not use them alone. they say not to use a swimming pool alone either even being healthy. I think a tragic accident and his assistant did get his head out of the water but was not strong enough to get his whole body out. It does not take a lot of water to drown.

He was likely using again, and after a period of sobriety, this can prove deadly for someone who took way too many drugs in the past. They will often take the same amount as they did while using, thinking they need that much to get high, and this is often a fatal mistake – their body isn’t used to that dosage, and it kills them. I promise this will be the finding, OR, they will say his body was simply worn out from DECADES of drugs and alcohol. Also in the intro song to friends he is spitting water out of his mouth like a fountain. Interesting symbolism given he died in the water. The insta posts are weird too I wonder what the whole Mattman thing stands for could it be an anagram or acronym? Given the last chapter of his book mentions water and picturing loved ones… Who knows with Hollywood you can’t rule anything creepy out but the simplest explanations are usually the true ones in his case a lifetime of struggles with addiction could have easily caused an early demise.
If he was having Heart Problems this could be the issue. Sometimes with Heart Issues that lead to a Heart Attack there is a loss or slowdown of movement of blood going thru the heart and then back out to the brain. This can cause memory issues, spaciness and other cognitive issues. Some people can actually hallucinate because of blood flow and blood pressure issues. A Heart Attack doesn’t come out of nowhere. It is a direct physical overload that can often start with a period of time when the heart and cognitive issues are going on that are not recognized by the person or their friends. I went thru this personally. I think this is what was happening to him. Not something conspiratorial. Just that his body including his cardiac system where in overload. Not about an overdose either. The heart is a magnificent machine that controls the body and the brain. I believe that his heart was malfunctioning and no one caught it. Seems he was suffering from melancholy. Possibly a hormone imbalance. Possibly the recent loss of a very charished loved one. ??? Chinese medicine speaks of a syndrome called “Octopus Heart”. It felt like being stabbed in the breast bone., and having a 300 pound man standing in my chest all of the time. It hurt to breath. After a few weeks of increasing pain and torment, I finally told myself that I had to let go, accept my loss, and move on… Or I would die. Those last posts of Matthew’s sound like a person who is deeply in grief. Trying to uplift himself, but losing the battle. They sound like cries for help. Sadly, the world is too busy these days. Its clear he was suffering with depression. After the success of friends was over his career pretty much dried up. He was also desperately lonely. . Both loneliness and depression is a very bad combination. Your problems become magnified because you have nothing but vast amounts of time to think and over think about stuff. Sometimes people relapse and at the beginning do not come out with it. He may have relapsed and wasn’t ready to stop. That happens. His IG posts are odd so it makes you think he was not writing them with a clear mind. I see people defending him by saying he didn’t relapse. If he relapsed it’s ok. No judgement. He was only clean 18 months. That’s not that long. If we find out drugs (remember prescription drugs are drugs) were in his system…it’s fine…if that is how he passed…that is his story and people can still learn from him. Either way his life made an impact on people. I wish he had it easier in this life.

Matthew restored his faith in Christ Jesus and that my friends is a huge treat to the elite in Hollywood, He was a treat to “them” (not just the elites but to “them”) if you know what I mean. “Forgive them Father, for they don’t know what they do.” I am listening to his audio book currently. So interesting to hear him read his own story. He has been in pain from day one of his life. I won’t share much in case people what to read it… But he says over and over he felt abandoned. He wanted love. He wanted to make people happy… that he learned to be funny to find acceptance and help others in their pain. I pray that he did find Jesus in his pain… when he cried out. He even says… He didn’t want to be remembered for friends. He wanted to be remembered for helping others escape the trap of pain and addiction. As a therapist and a Christian, I see how “hurt people, hurt people.” He was in pain, emotionally and physically. We can never truly know another man’s heart, but we can say he took a bad path and we can pray he found the truth… while also saying he tried to break free. We can say he showed us the dangers in the world that say they will fill a hole only God can! Live in grace and compassion church. Love others and comfort others with the comfort we have received. Only God can provide peace and purpose!
It’s so easy when you’re young to think all that is important is fame and fortune. When I was younger I wanted to be like Whitney Houston and Phyllis Hyman. I had opportunities to become famous being offered to cut a demo and record. I didn’t do it. I’m so thankful I didn’t because I’m sure that once that life grabs you it’s hard to let go. These people are not their own anymore. It’s sad to see these people dying for temporary when they can live life eternally with Jesus Christ.
I asked God for several things in my life that were good things that I wanted very much, and I literally did not receive a single one of them. It took me a long time to accept the fact that I wanted my will and not His. Now, I finally understand. I surrendered my life, myself, and all my desires for my life to Him, and I have never in my life experienced greater joy and peace. It’s indescribable. Surrender to Him completely, and you will not be sorry. Don’t be afraid. Just do it.
Matthew also cried out to God again and because God is a merciful God, he heard and answered Matt’s prayer. It’s a beautiful story and reminder of just how grace and mercy covers us. God answered his prayer and delivered him. That’s what I love. Matthew story is not just about addiction or selling his soul, it’s about the endless love of God. Beautiful redemption story. You should have included that testimony in your article.
Matthew Perry did get clean! And also one of his last interviews he mentioned that he had a close relationship with God at this time. He mentions it in his book. I highly recommend that you read it. Mr Perry did not die in vain, after all!! He has helped many folks and I hope he has a legacy of hope. Sadly, his body gave out but GOD still wins because Mattman was able to turn his scars into stars. Rest in Paradise Matthew Perry.

If you are asking fame, fortune, and saying I’ll give you whatever you want you are not speaking to the Alpha the Omega, The I Am, and you certainly haven’t read the Bible because you’d know better. I’m not money rich but I’m spiritually rich with a husband of 30 years and 23 year old twins. My husband is fighting stage 4 cancer right now we’re grateful and living and loving God for every day we had and have with eachother. These walls can crumble around me and I’m still going to be standing and as rich as I ever was because my home and wealth is God and my family. I’m thankful for EVERYDAY good or bad and I thank God for EVERYDAY good or bad.
I didn’t watch one episode of Friends either but I did make a deal with God once. I turned from a wicked life i had been living and then I asked God for something and it didn’t happen so I fell and went back to my life of sin because I felt like God didn’t hold up his end of the deal. A few years later, my life was in shambles and I thought that I would return to God. Even though he didn’t hold his end of the bargain, I knew that i was so miserable and lost since I left him. Coming back to God, I realized that God never failed me and anything he gives me is a gift because of his love for me. He didn’t break our deal, we never had one. He owes me nothing and he’s already died for me and given me way more than I deserve. When we bargin with God, we are really making a deal with something other than God. I’m so thankful that he’s accepted me back and forgiven me for my foolishness.
I remember being young wanting to be a singer. My father gave me game as I got older. He worked as a tour manager in the 90s and had seen it all. I’m glad Hod gave him the wisdom to give to me. I was so sure I wanted that life but God is so great he protected me by showing my earthly father what that life was really about. So sad many people are still being fooled to think that they would never have to make a deal with the devil for fame and fortune. May God show them the truth
I agree with you brother, the Lord doesn’t make “deals”. Poor Matthew, he had fame, money, family and yet he felt very alone and it could only means one thing, that he was away from God. It’s sad to see so many, many children placed in foster homes because home is not a safe place for them, mom or dad or both have addictions and/or can’t take care of them and others come from broken homes, young children suffer dearly when parents divorce and even more when they, as young children, have to share their parents with other partners, when they re-marry as Matthew said, that he felt abandoned by both parents when they remarried. To me, God is indispensable in our lives period, otherwise we are an easy prey for the devil. I will keep him in my prayers. God bless all of us and our families
One of the guests of the show Friends said a few years ago that whenever every episode of Friends was filmed, everyone on set has to say openly and together “hail $@tan!” They had an evil ‘boss’ who ALWAYS strikes an unfair deal. These rich & famous people we see suffer more privately than we they unknowns, but they will not tell you this. Like the bible says in Proverbs 15:16 ‘Better a little with the fear of the Lord, than great wealth in turmoil’.

He did say in his last chapter of his book, that’s sticking with me, he said the one thing he did right was never gave up, never threw his hands up and said that’s enough, he stands tall and ready for whatever comes next and one day you too might get called upon to do something important, so be ready for it….. I believe he early on made a deal that haunted him throughout the years. I believe he knew that sad day was coming and he couldn’t so anything about it because he knew he couldn’t or that time would have came sooner. I believe that’s what all his posts led up too. Many say it was suicide, but in his book hw also stated he feared death. He was afraid to die. My gut has been telling me exactly what was said in this article. I agree, I actually thought it was odd too when he said you can do anything you want to me just make me famous. Why would God want to do anything to him ? It was super odd. So happy I found this website. Many narcissists sell their soul by the age of 7…I’ve never seen one change. They truly deny Our Father. Matthew, I believe made a contract unknowingly and at some point realized it, then suffered tremendously. To try and get rid of the pain, he started putting other spirits in his body to not feel. Unfortunately, many recovery centers put a bandaid on the problem which is a temporary fix. I never watched the show but from all I’ve heard about Matthew, I believe he had a genuine soul and I pray he found God in the end. 🙏
God is my strength. Even though every month I struggle to pay rent and I struggle to buy groceries for my children. But yet God has provided. These past three years have been hard. Since suffering a heart attack two years ago and my on going battle with lupus I’m overwhelmed. Both of my sons are autistic but they are thriving now that I’m homeschooling them because the public school system wasn’t working, my hours to work are limited. I’m constantly in fear of homelessness. But I STILL TRUST IN YOU LORD blind faith even as I struggle. I feel ashamed because I get put down over my situation. Thankfully I find strength in you Jesus. I love you Heavenly Father please continue to keep me in your grace and mercy.

A burst colon, all his teeth fell out ( at once!), pancreatitis, heart stoppage (5 minutes!), 55 vicodin a day, a quart of vodka a day, come on. His doctor told him he had COPD, he had to detox 65 times, he was popping prescription meds around the time of his death. He just killed himself.

Matthew didn’t know God at all the first time and the liar swooped right in as the “angel of light”. His hope of course to destroy this poor broken spirit so he could never find the true light of the Father’s love. That second prayer though… the cry for HELP instead of fame… In Matthew’s own words: “I started to cry,” he explained. “I mean, I really started to cry – that shoulder-shaking kind of uncontrollable weeping. I wasn’t crying because I was sad. I was crying because, for the first time in my life, I felt OK. I felt safe, taken care of. Decades of struggling with God, and wrestling with life, and sadness, all was being washed away, like a river of pain gone into oblivion.” “I had been in the presence of God. I was certain of it. And this time I had prayed for the right thing: help,” Perry said. God swooped in that day, friends. He did. He goes on to say that encounter with God, alone, carried him through the next two years of sobriety. But I know how consistent the evil one is with throwing condemnation and temptation… the master… and when we can’t determine his voice from our own… so many lose hope or think we must endure to the end best we can. I know Matthew is in heaven this day because even though we are weak He is STRONG and He loves us so. He will not cast a soul aside because we couldn’t let ourselves break through the levels of darkness that envelope our lives after we find true salvation.
I used to not like the show, “Friends.” Some of the content, I believe, was written in an amoral way. I used to comment that some of those actors “sold their souls to the devil” for that part — for that opportunity in life. What I have learned from looking back at the show is Matthew and other cast members changed some of the content to make the show more moral. Case in point — Chandler NEVER cheated on Monica. According to one of the stories about “Friends,” Matthew saw the script saying that he was supposed to cheat on and HURT Monica BUT Matthew decided he wasn’t going to show the concept of cheating to be acceptable. He refused to CHEAT. If you notice, Matthew’s lines were never spoken in a mean way — because he used to rewrite some of the lines to be spoken in a funny way. If Matthew “sold his soul to the devil” for that role in “Friends” and for FAME, I must say that I hope Matthew realized that he, indeed, had the last laugh. He did not “sell out” by saying stupid, mean lines or advocating people to be mean and awful to each other. Bravo, Matthew Perry!!! He actually used his FAME to do GOOD. He showed us, all, how to be a good FRIEND!!! He made the world a nicer place!!! Apparently, the only person, he might not have been good to was to himself. I am sure Matthew was dealing with a lot of evil, here — but — not anymore. May he Rest In Peace in Heaven and occasionally may he have a back stage pass to check up on all of us. With his T.V. and movie credits, via our media ways, we can access his wit and humor whenever we need to — to deal better with life.

You have to be very careful with what you say, and who you say it to. I understand how it is to be desperate for a variety of reasons. Life can be hard. We all want to have something that has value to us. We all want to get out of poverty and we all want a good life. But making some kind of deal will certainly have consequences. I feel sorry for Matthew. He seems like a good man with a lot of pain inside him. May he rest in peace.
I do believe his first prayer was answered by the Devil. He made a deal with the Devil. The Devil is the god of This World. But i believe he must have turned to the real God once he realised that fame and power does not make one happy. I pray that he is in a better place now healing with the help of higher powers. I genuinely feel for him. He realised his mistakes and tried to turn towards the light. I genuinely hope he found the real God, at last.
