Warlocks have two spell slots at their highest levels, which are recovered after every short rest. If your party takes two short rests in a day, you can use six spell slots. Warlocks always cast their spells at the highest level possible, and each Warlock NPC has three high-level spells in its list of “1/day” spells.
Warlocks learn spells permanently, so you don’t need to worry about changing them daily. They also get the most powerful damage cantrip in the game, giving them a solid, reliable base. A Warlock can cast an invocation a hundred times per day (or more) so long as the prerequisites are met. Some invocations require a Warlock to expend a spell slot, while others just produce an effect.
Warlocks can have more prepared spells and some can be cast through invocations, but they cannot cast more than two spells per short rest until they get their special 6th level spell slot feature at level 11. They can cast any spell they know using those spell slots. At 4th level, you can only cast 2 spells per short rest, both 2nd level spell slots.
A normal spell caster could cast 2 of these mystic arcanum spells in a day around the same level. A normal spell caster has more utility, but Warlocks can go into any level. To cast one of your warlock spells of 1st level or higher, you must expend a spell slot. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a short or long rest.
The Warlock table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your warlock spells of 1st through 5th level and the level of those slots. Warlocks can change spells as you progress, but they have only two slots at their highest level.
