What is the real name of panther animal?

The term “black panther” refers to large felines in the genus Panthera, characterized by a black coat or large concentrations of black spots set against a dark background. These species are found in Africa and Asia, and in Central and South America. Black-furred variants of these species are also known as black leopards and black jaguars. The term is also used to describe dark-coloured bobcats, lynx, jaguarundis, tigers, and pumas (cougars), although reports of black-coloured representatives of some species have not been confirmed.

Black coat coloration is attributed to the expression of recessive alleles in leopards and dominant alleles in jaguars, which stimulate the production of large amounts of the dark pigment melanin in the animal’s fur and skin. Although melanin concentrations often vary between members of the same litter, individuals displaying completely black coats are rare. The appearance of a black coat may also be influenced by other factors, such as the angle of incident light and the animal’s life stage.

For example, some melanistic leopards and jaguars display totally black coats due to diffuse light, while others may display blackened or near-blackened coats due to the retention of black spots from the juvenile stage into adulthood.

  • STILL one of my favorite memories as a hockey fan, the 1996 Florida Panthers and the ‘rat-tossing’. That was cool to see. The story behind it is even more unusual. And you can see that even today the fans in South Florida STILL remember it even though the team, up until recently, wasn’t always very successful on the ice. Now we might see the Panthers back in the Cup Final for the 1st time since that epic ’96 playoff run. 🙂🐀

  • Im 54 now and still live in South Florida. The Panthers in 96 were everything here and I have to say they were a much more exciting team back then. Every bar was packed when they played, jerseys hats and shirts were worn everywhere and I mean everywhere. It was our life here for a few months. Everyone who lived here knew every players name. The local rDio station 94.9 Zeta even had a huge pep rally and thousands of people showed up in the middle of the day on a workday! People were wrapping and painting their cars in Panther colors, I even painted a donated car like a Panthers jersey for the pep rally. Good times man.
