Webster University’s mascot, the Gorlok, is a mythical creature created by students and staff through a school contest. The Gorlok is part cheetah, part buffalo, and part Saint Bernard. It is named after the streets of Gore and Lockwood, where the university is located. The Gorlock is derived from the name of the college sports teams, the Gorlocks.
Webster University is a U.S.-based international university founded in 1915 by the Sisters of Loretto. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields and locations. The Gorlok is the symbol of the Gorlocks, the college sports teams, and is known for its speeding cheetah paws, fierce buffalo horns, and dependable Saint Bernard face.
The Gorlok has been used by golfers to support the Gorlok Open, as well as Webster Men’s Baseball team players and Webster Women’s Basketball team members. The university’s athletic mascot is named in honor of the Gorlok, who has the paws of a speeding cheetah, the horns of a fierce buffalo, and the face of a dependable Saint Bernard.
