Netflix has revealed that NFL mascots, including the Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy, receive an average salary of around $65,000 per year. This salary is significantly higher than the average salary of $57,000 for the average NFL mascot. However, it’s worth noting that the lowest-paid MLB mascot is Prescott, who is set to hit the Cowboys’ salary cap for $61.92 million in 2024.
The Dallas Cowboys mascot, Rowdy, earns $65,000 per year, making him one of the highest-paid NFL mascots. The average annual value (AAV) for the Dallas Cowboys mascot is $240 million, with guaranteed money of $231 million. The deal was tacked onto the one-year remaining contract.
In addition to his salary, every DCC should also make $65,000 a year, as they work for a for-profit organization that does not make taxes. The average NFL mascot salary was $60,000 in 2023, but there are exceptions like the Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy, who makes $65,000 annually.
NFL mascots attend every home game for the entire season and don’t tend to attend every game. The average NFL mascot salary is around $57,000 per year, but some, like the Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy and the New England Patriots mascot Pat Patriot, make more than this.
In comparison, the current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, which adds up to a yearly salary of $15,080.
📹 Former Cowboys Cheerleader Files Lawsuit Against Team
A former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader has filed a federal lawsuit against the team, alleging she wasn’t paid for all her work and …
Umm, just wanted to mention – these cheerleaders are not paid for – costume maintenance, gym fees, workouts, practices, all non-stadium related appearances. The calendar fees go to the team, endorsements are paid to the team, the girls can’t accept money for appearing in the team uniforms given. Alot of the cheerleaders these days are owned by the team – they are required to 1) Have a day job in the area, 2) Be available for all team related appearances (despite the day job). And here’s a big one – many don’t have medical insurance to cover the injuries sustained while a cheerleader. As to Rowdy being brought into the story. Its just an example.
I’m rather surprised by the condescension apparent in the comments so far. The cheerleaders are just as much a part of the NFL and the NFL experience as the football players. Many have spent years in dance training and they are right there on the field performing throughout the entire football game. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, at least, are held to a high standard of conduct and act much better in public than many of the players. The players get multimillion dollar contracts and endorsements, and the cheerleaders can’t even get paid a decent wage? They aren’t asking for million dollar contracts – just enough money to cover practicing several hours a week, appearances all over the world, and game duties. Seems very reasonable to me and, for a billion dollar organization, should be an expectation. For the organization to offer to pay her for her unpaid time shows they know there’s an issue. It’s time to stop “enjoying” the cheerleaders’ performances while looking down your noses at them. It takes a courageous individual to stand up against the tide of apathy and tradition to fight for something better for future generations. Erica, good for you.
It’s waaay past time that these ladies get compensated appropriately for every appearance, personal expenses, wages lost from their regular jobs and much, much more. These ladies work extremely hard to know their dances, routines, and learn new ones every week ! Their training to stay in the required size and shape is a continuous and ongoing process. The suit is long passed due !!
The cheerleaders are exploited! They need to stop continuing to take it! The teams talk about the girls being ‘professionals’, well they should be paid as professionals!! They have to ‘act’ a certain way & be role models, etc, yet they have them striving to do calender photo shoots in bikinis that will probably for the most part be glared at by men who are not looking at them thinking ‘oh what lovely, wholesome young ladies’! I have no problem with such things (if this is what somebody wants to do), it’s just that I find the way they are treated, the expectation’s, along with what they have to do very contradictory (not just calendar shoot, this is just 1 example)! Pro Cheerleaders will continue to be paid so little and be exploited as long as there are girls who are fed how ‘amazing it is’ & who therefore are prepared to accept what they are told they worth! Yes they may know what the pay is going in but the change needs to start somewhere….just saying ‘it’s ok as they are aware of the pay going in’ is not good enough really & just accepting it will mean this will continue for future generations (not only nfl cheerleading….there is a much bigger picture to all of this)! I think it all reflects badly on the people at the top of the industry, it shows they do not have respect for everybody in their organisation which is highlighted by such exploitations & inequalities, (otherwise wouldn’t they want every person to be at the very least paid fairly/adequately!?).
GIven the Cowboy’s are a multi-BILLION dollar organization, these ladies should be given more. Hell, the Home Depot in my neck of the woods starts you out at $15 per hour. I say double their rate to $16 per hour. And we all know the Cowboys organization can afford this increase too. Afterall, look at the $$$ they make off these cheerleaders from the swimsuit calendar, paid publicity events, etc. Yep — $16 an hour !!!
IM SORRY. I had to REWIND………DID she say these WOMEN on this “oh so GRAND” TEAM that girls actually break their necks to be on, would push their competition into moving traffic and starve themselves weeks before the actual auditions ARE GETTING PAID LESS THAN 9 FKN DOLLARS an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???? My little sister is a 2nd year vet for the Cleveland Monster Hockey girls and gets paid $12.00 an hr so WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FK is the Dallas Cheerleading Organization doing? They actually built an entire fkn DANCE CENTER for the girls to do their dance camp at so I don’t want to hear that they don’t have the money.
-They learn over 40 routines, start to finish, over the course of one summer -Said 40 routines have to be able to be picked up in an instant to dance to any random song they decide to play during games -The Vets have to fight for their spot on the team every season -The requirements and try outs are absolutely ruthless with any tiny mistake costing any single one of them a cut from the team -They’re constantly body shamed and their weight is harshly judged -They train for hours, doing one of the hardest routines in the industry -They work part time jobs alongside their DCC job -And they’re also expected to know everything respective to their football players and the organization itself because they are representing the DCC in a huge way Yet these women are getting paid pennies No wonder they only last 1-2 years max half the time, because all that effort and hard work seems to be worth nothing more than part time pay.
kind late to this but being a nfl cheerleader takes so much of you. I always wished to be a dcc because I’ve been a dancer my entire life but perusal the show, it changed my mind as I got older and then became a teenager I finally understood how hard they are on them. It takes alot of your mental health. It causes you to not be able to focus on yourself and your mental health. These girls deserve so much more then they are given. With every hate comment, rude encounters, and even feeling ashamed of perusal yourself on TV. They deserve hell of a lot more.
They entertain a national audience, uphold the reputation of a major football franchise, and are expected to push their bodies to the absolute limit through rigorous rehearsal and sacrifice their personal lives. They deserve to be paid what they are worth. A lot of money is made off of their performances, people fill the stands to see them, they’re part of the appeal.
I consider cheerleading a high-performance sport. These women should be waaay better paid and respected. Also very sad to see the constant bodyshaming by the trainers and the testimony of the girl who suffered from anorexia. One of the judges rejected a cheerleader because her face looked a little fuller than in the photos, they were also not happy if a girl looked too thin or flat chested, ugh.
They knew yes I am not disagreeing.. but come on they make it sound so fabulous and you are so excited to be chosen. Then reality sets in, you have to be on time for all practices and games. Not to mention traveling, they should be paid for overtime. That’s what any other job would do. And the minimum wage has increased in all states. So that means their wage should increase. Over time pay is due to all of them. And you should get raises every year you are on the team. I mean even after you are chosen you still have to audition to make the team again. Just like regular jobs you get raises.. and the women should also be aloud to take endorsement offers along with the team approval..
Most of the Cheerleaders have full time jobs in addition to their cheering responsibilities. They also have different groups of teams and I wonder if there is additional compensation for participating in those as it takes more time committment along with a lot of additional travel. They don’t go thorugh the grueling training, selection process, practices and performance expecting to get paid….but for the noteriety and to get ‘noticed’ (Kind of like Melissa Rycroft) and launch a career in a different industry. I’m kind of torn on this lawsuit. If they are getting more than the minimum wage then the only real complaint is not getting paid for hours worked or OT…that may actually have some bite .
I totally agree that this needs to be fixed, and good for Ms. Wilkins for turning down payment for herself alone and filing the lawsuit to make a change for the cheerleaders, past, present and future. I started perusal Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders…Making the Team 3 seasons ago when a girl from my hometown was trying out. I couldn’t believe it when I realized what little they are paid. Just perusal the show, it’s obvious how hard these girls work, not to mention their own personal expenses to be a DC cheerleader. It’s about the honor, which I’m sure is amazing, but I’m also sure the NFL franchise can afford to pay them for their work. With the Equal Opportunity Act, I don’t understand how the franchise gets away with it.
How tf does a mascot get paid $65,000 a year just for acting like a fool in front of thousands of people?? He doesn’t show his face or do any hard work whatsoever, unlike the cheerleaders who are forced to constantly obsess over what they look like and spend hours everyday training to keep in top shape
These cheerleaders are absolutely exploited. Yes, they understood going in that many expenses fall on them, but as mentioned, the mascot gets paid more than they do, and I hardly think he’d be missed like they would if gone. It’s high time things change and these hard working, athletic, professional, college educated women get rightly compensated.
YES they want to be cheerleaders for the cowboys, because it’s a very high standard for dancers, they deserve to be paid way more than rowdy for sure, their days are extreme during training camp,if they have jobs or college on top of training camp they’re bound to get little sleep during the week,on top of all the physical demands, these are all intelligent, beautiful, gifted athletes they deserve the respect to be paid well for what they do.
wow!!! I understand her. I was in colorgaurd in high school, they want the best and work kids to 15-20 hours a week. ok now just think them more then that and not getting payed what they should. every time they work in studio or on that field they need to be payed. maybe not to much but enough to be paid to live a normal life. this is sad and to think they are the best but not treated that way.
After seeing the documentary on the workload … these girls deserve a full time livable wage for their work – shouldn’t have to have full time jobs as well as full time rehersal load / performance load and no room for injury recovery. They make millions for the club. They deserve to be paid accordingly.
These women are a few extremely talented women and what they go through is absolutely grueling to say the least. It’s a shame how low they get paid is astonishing! They need to increase the pay for these elite cheerleaders. It is such a huge honor to represent this team but by the same token if it weren’t for these talented girls there wouldn’t be a team. I hope the Dallas Cowboy organization does the right thing and pay these ladies for they are worth which is allot more than what they’re getting paid, chump change!
I think they should make at least 15 an hour. Even the Disney princess make 2 dollars more than minimum wage. But I think the girls should not expect to make more from joining the team other than something on their resume like one of them said. The girls do pay for their clothes, hair and nails to be done too and that’s costly. I think at least 15-17 an hour
It’s sad that it took her to file a lawsuit for the owner of the team to pay them what they deserve. These girls work very hard at there job learning there dancing routines along with all the personal appearances, charity work ect. Try to have one of your boys from the team do what these girls are for twelve dollars an hour.
I know they eventually settled and raised the girls’ pay but Why did the cowboys even let this case go to court? They knew it would embarrass their company and could not be defended considering how much they pay their players. They should have quietly done the right thing to avoid this lawsuit. Just shameful they would rather pay lawyers than their cheerleaders. Smt.
Their Pay check is Ridiculous. These ladies work so hard to make the team, they need to be paid a better salary and I don’t mean $400 A game. They deserve At least $3000.00 Per Game. HONESTLY if the Owner Jerry or coaches would hold their players to the same High standards, as they do the cheerleaders, they WOULD actually have a better Football Team!
Nothing wrong with wanting equal pay. I’ve been to several professional games But let’s face it no one is really coming to the game to see the cheerleaders. McDonald’s is a Billion dollar corporation as well and you don’t see them asking for a raise. Bc they know what they signed up for. No one begged you to be a cheerleader you, volunteered your services.
Cheerleaders put a lot of time and effort into their performances and deserve to be paid fairly for that. While Erica did have an injury, she was actually dismissed from the team. While injured, for insurance purposes, she was to stay in the locker room during game time. She changed out of her uniform, went up into the stands and took a selfie of herself drinking a beer – then returned to the locker room, redressed and pretended to have been there the entire time. Well, of course someone saw the photo and as she had violated the rules, she was fired. Only after that did she file this lawsuit. Apparently she was perfectly content until then.
$8.50 an hour??!!!!?!!!!?!???!! thats $1.25 over minimum wage.. absolutely ridiculous. disgusting even. football players get paid how much? i get it they’re the main event and all but the dalls cowboy cheerleaders are i think the most popular set of cheerleaders in the world and they’re getting paid $8.50 AN HOUR?!!!!!!! youve GOT TO BE KIDDING ME
Damn. They probably tell the cheerleaders it’s not about the pay it’s about the privilege of being a DCC which is insane bc although it’s a privilege, I’ve seen what they have to go through to audition & be apart of the team & being apart of something so big like that they should definitely get paid more than fast food workers like come on
DCC & NFL Cheerleaders in general come from different backgrounds & I’ve cheered w/flight attendants, nurses, school teachers, even women in the legal fields. All NFL Cheerleaders sign a contract we are told lots of rehearsals very, very little pay. What she’s calling over time is stupid it’s meet & greeting our fans… pictures& signing autographs for the no TD’s that we scored!!! 200-500 or more women try out for NFL Cheerleading squads. We can be replaced easy! Players can not be as you all know. This girl knows most fans don’t really know our business inside & out. We go shoot calendars in beautiful Islands, do plenty of good hearted charity work, entertain our troops here & over seas. we love our fans you pay hard earned $$$ on games or support by perusal on tv & still spend your $$$ on team gear. we are all not greedy. I was gratetful for my time as a NFL Cheerleader for 2 teams. The DCC had a woman cheer last year after 3 she left to go intern as a doctor. Some are even married w/kids we’re not all greedy! Hope this clears up a lot for you guys. Love The NFL & GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Yet they once kicked a girl out of training camp because her second job was in a daycare and she didn’t have time to paint her face up, (had to wait for kids to be picked up) before she could leave that job and head to cheerleader practice. Judy and Kelly made such a big deal about her not arriving with makeup on for practice.
I’m guessing that it’s a supply and demand thing. Yes, they train and work extremely hard, but also there are a million girls who would take their place in a second. So, the organization knows that they can pay them very little and still easily fill the squad with talented cheerleaders. I’m not agreeing with that philosophy though. I think they should make as much as the football players do, since they work just as hard and are just as good at what they do. Half of the ticket sales are because of the cheerleaders. Fans could stay at home and watch the games, avoid all of the traffic and be able to use the bathroom and get food and beer any time they want to. They pay to go to the games to see the cheerleaders though, because they make a point of not showing them on tv during the games.
I dont see how they can be paid 8$ an hour, and be expected to have another job, and you will find the low pay will go hand in hand with other remuneration promises not being fulfilled. Their risk of injury would be high during training, who carries this risk? I would say that beautiful women should boycot cheerleading for these teams, so that they will be left to choose from planer women desperate for minimum wage work. a lot of men go to these games to watch the chearleaders, it will most certainly lead to a reduction in support.
I agree these women should get paid more cause they do a lot of work. HOWEVER, it is a hobby not a long term career. It has been made clear they have to have a full-time job or go to school. They also SIGNED the contract knowing what they are going to get and what is expected of them. If you do not agree with the terms then do not sign up for this.
I agree 100% with her they are making millions of the backs of these incredible athletes and women. They deserve to make at least a living wage for all of there time! They make about 1300 a year and they get nothing! Until the woman of DCC start putting there foot down this will never end! Holy shit the mascot is making more than them
I’m gonna say it I think cheerleader should get paid way more than $8 an hour. I am not saying they should get paid as much NFL player. I think they deserve more money than what they would get stripping at a strip club. Also the cheerleaders deserve other things too like team stock for 401k In very good health insurance. I think the fact the NFL a multibillion dollar corporation with billionaires who own the teams could afford to pay their cheerleaders more than $8 an hour. If you can pay a mascot $65000 a year you can pay the cheerleaders same.
8 an hour is not enough to get by… obviously. One thing, however, is that they know the hourly pay of their work before accepting the job. They think “Oh, 8 an hour is fine!” But then, once they start actually cheering and working, they complain because it’s simply not enough. Yet, they put themselves in that position KNOWING how much the pay would be. I love the Cowboys Cheerleaders, don’t get me wrong. It just seems odd to get mad over something YOU KNEW ABOUT FROM THE BEGINNING!!
Woman gets paid exactly what she agrees to… Sues for unfair treatment. I agree that the DCC chicks aren’t paid enough and they should negotiate a raise for all members going forward, but that’s a negotiation, not a lawsuit and past cheerleaders have no stake in it. This is business not marriage! Women have come to expect money after they leave a marriage, now they want more money after leaving a job. This should be thrown out in about 10 seconds, but it won’t be.
NFL cheerleaders are extremely talented, committed, and selectively chosen just like football players. They deserve to have a higher wage for everything that they do. Their pay is the same as a fast food worker which is beyond disrespectful to those women who have worked their whole lives for that position
It’s sad the way DCCs are treated. They give such an enormous amount of hard work and talent….sometimes even disrupting their own personal lives to join the organization. You would think Kelli and Judy would be more willfully understanding as they are women as well. The fact that they themselves have not fought for these ladies to get fair pay is astounding. SMH.
Ridiculous. I live perusal DCC Making the team but the wages are disgusting. And completely unacceptable. They hold the DCC to such a high standard and count on these women to represent with such prestige its incomprehensible that they are paid less that Federal Minimum wage. I mean…is that even legal. The organization should be ashamed of themselves and the cheerleaders should go on strike. Although knowing how corrupt the Cowboys seem to be there is probably something in their contract forbidding them to strike
Yes! they need to be payed a lot more for what they do. I was a dancer for 16 years and if people knew how hard it is and how much sacrifice us DANCERS have to make in order to be the best I think everyone would think twice before making their pay only 8 dollars an hour. All dancer deserve a livable salary. One of the reason I chose to leave dance after 16 years is not only because of an injury but also because there just isn’t enough pay in the dance world in general. I had to make this unfortunate decision at age 14 before my dance career got more serious.
It’s ridiculous and unethical to not pay these well trained performers…yhey do all their training besides their jobs, have to do runway shows, make kalenders, attend congresses and events etc. And not getting payed because its “every girls dreams” is demeaning and bad for women everywhere. Kelli and Judy don’t work for free…
Kelli and Judy are probably said “it’s not about the money. It’s about the tradition, and wether or not they have the passion in their heart to make this squad”, or some bullshit like that. I’m sure they make a shit ton of money, but they don’t look out for their cheerleaders, and make sure they are making a fair living.
If you don’t like the pay don’t do the job. It is not a necessity and not really what people care about when they go to a football game. Supply and demand are how this economy works and I hate to break it to all the girls who still want to dance for a living but I can guarantee half the people during the performances are on there phones, or going to get drinks or use the restroom. It’s not like a teacher or police officer who are vital/wanted in this country. Demand just isn’t there.
I never went out for the team because of how much they’re paid. Plus they have to keep jobs. No way. I had to support myself and my family. And I lived on my own. No way would I ever become a cheerleader. It would have been nice if they paid well. They work very hard. No thanks I did very well for myself. So glad I never became a professional cheerleader.
This has been a huge issue for a long time. The men get paid millions per season, but the women are making minimum wage pretty much. That’s disgusting. These men don’t need millions only for the women to suffer. They’re working their butts off too! They can get injured badly too! Lower the amount of money you’re giving to all of these men, and give way more to these women. For how exclusive NFL cheerleading is, and how difficult it is to make the team, they should be getting at least $20 an hour. These women and their families have paid out of their own pockets for a lifetime of dance lessons. They are professional dancers. They didn’t just get to where they are by being just pretty faces.
Why is this even a case? Really? Do you know anything about simple economics? Supply and Demand? Do these girls KNOW the wages they are being paid? Yes. It’s ridiculously low. Yet there are hundreds if not thousands of try outs, hours of waiting in line, tears, heartbreaks of not making the team. If the supply is not there, the demand will be there, and wages will go up. It’s as simple as that. You know the wages going in, you tried out, you make the team, you got hurt, now you’re off the team, and you sue. That’s the American way these days huh?
They are athletes and they need to be payed as that, they aren’t objects they are workers and they should be payed as much as the football players. They do much more preparation than the players such as working out stretching learning a routine 5 days a week, hair, makeup, nails, shaving. Cosmetics alone cost a lot of money. Many of the women on the team are living thier dream of being a DCC and the Cowboys are taking advantage of that because if one of the cheerleaders did ask for a higher wage they could be kicked off the team and easily replaced with someone who they think is more deserving. They are being sexist against women and shame on any of the women who are working for the DCC who aren’t speaking up about this.
CBS 11 reached out to the Cowboys for a response as to why Ezekiel Elliott isn’t being paid what he deserves, and the team has yet to return their calls; so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a cheerleader making only $8.00 an hour. By the way, Rowdy deserves much more than $65K a year with all the personal appearances and all. Give me a break, Jerry!! 😀
Also, there is a A team (you see on the field) and a B team that does other events like the USO tour. I flew the B team in Korea for the 1987 USO Christmas show. I was so glad to meet them. I don’t think the B team was paid hardly anything but expenses, back then. They were working 14-16 hour days for two weeks. They did get off one Saturday night and we got to dance with them at Club Xanadu in Itaewon-dong (in Seoul). Those Hard Working girls made, being in a foreign country during Christmas a little easier to take. Dallas Cowboys Corporation, please pay these girls a higher wage out of your millions in PROFITS.
Like so many others I’ve watched the DCC show, and (as I listen to this young lady) I can’t help but think about how many times I’ve heard Kelli say “we strive for excellence” in every way, yet she is okay with the unfair pay and the double standard. I’d bet a ton that Charlotte, Kelli and Judy get paid for all their time and then some. I would also be willing to bet that the DCC does generate revenue for the Dallas Cowboys, and regardless of what they knew coming in, it’s just not right. Plain and simple. As someone that comes from the entertainment business and a business owner, I can assure you this is nothing short of greed – that almighty dollar.
I think those girls work really hard. They’re expected to look perfect, dance perfect, be perfect during interviews, change their looks, do community service, smile smile smile, etc. It’s like they work just as hard if not more than the actual players but they don’t earn a fraction of the money. No-one should have to go through all of that simply for the ‘honor’ of being a part of a team. If they’re expected to put in so much hard work they should at least be paid accordingly. I wonder if they took away the ball players salaries and paid them minimum wage would they be willing to stick around and work so hard in the training camps simply for the ‘honor’ of being a part of the team.
I got paid $13.25 working at Chipotle as my first job 😭, they definitely need to be paid more than a measly $8.25 per hour. They should have set salaries starting at 40k and health and dental insurance + other benefits.Apparently in 2017 each football team earned on average 255 million dollars, time for the owners to pay up.
I know the cheerleading isn’t their full time job. Rowdy the Mascott isn’t near as talented as the cheerleaders. Anyone can put on the Rowdy costume. It takes a beautifully fit, skilled dancer, with great interpersonal skills, intelligence on current events for interviews, & the endurance to dance throughout the games. It’s downright ridiculous that Rowdy get $60K vs now $400/game ($7,200 for an 18 game 2021 season). At least the DCC cheerleaders gotta small victory in the settlement.
Wow, I did not know they were paid so little! Most people think.. Football players, Cheerleaders as the first thing that comes to mind when asked, Dallas Cowboys, first thought. They are truly a very visual aspect to the Dallas Cowboys name. They should get more pay, for sure!! My question is…Why don’t they?
It’s total bullshit that they can’t pay these women something decent!! The freaken mascot makes $65000?!? Are you kidding me?!? They shouldn’t have to have a 2nd job! DCC should be sustainable as hard as these girls work! We could spout all that “it’s an honor to be a part of the team” Bull all day long. Same goes for the football players! But they sure make a living and then some! It’s embarrassing that these girls aren’t making some good money!
For the millions of dollars that the football industry rakes in they can certainly afford to pay these women more than 8.50 per hour. I make more than that being a bottom-of-the-totem-pole Starbucks employee AND I get full benefits AND they pay for 100% of my University tuition. This really is gross. The amount of work they have to do to maintain their image first of all is ALOT. Working out for hours probably, eating healthy – that all takes time. Not to mention rehearsal and appearances. What a greedy, selfish, company. That is insulting for these poor women!! And the company knows how desperate they are, simply for the prestige and title (which in reality will get them nowhere in life if you really think about it). So they are totally taking advantage of these women!
Rowdy makes 65k a year and the cheerleaders only get paid $8 an hour????!!! Nobody cares about Rowdy. The cheerleaders are what is strongly associated with the America’s Team Brand. The amount of skill and practice, as well as the lengthy tryout process. It’s nuts that Rowdy is paid more, let alone that much more.
So she became a cheerleader for the Cowboys to “pay the bills”… like, that’s her career choice? Did she plan on that until she retired? Haven’t seen many 40-50 yr old cheerleaders, nor have I seen any who use cheerleading as a primary source of income. Should they be paid better? Yeah. Should they be required to perform e tra duties beyond games? Only if they wish to, and are paid well to do it. They do have an option…saying screw this, and walking away. Its not like they are held against their will…
It’s astounding that they demand excellent showmanship and most of these young ladies have to hold down a job too.. when they could be working out and practicing the 50 dances they have to know in a short amount of time. ‘Sorry this is your last night’ Also who can afford Belk on that pay, not to mention hair spray, makeup, nails.. pink tax.. smdh. Oohhh and lets not forget the healthy foods, those are not cheap. Eating the right kinds of lean meats, protein..gym membership, visits to Kitty Carter dance studio. $$$
I don’t know about the Cowboys cheerleaders, but thé Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders, they are all either students or have careers outside their cheer duties. The game day program always highlights a few cheerleaders and it always lists their jobs. You have quite a few nurses and teachers and those in real estate. You are told up front what your compensation is and what your duties entail. As for the mascot a lot of them work more than just game days and a few appearances. They work daily doing shows at schools about the importance of reading, or being active or anti bullying shows. They do a lot of work with charities
Wow these women should be paid alot more than the players. These women work there butts off and to look flawless at the same time CHALE homes. I’m glad she went to sue them at least something is something not a whole lot but a raise. Well I’m curious how the show is gonna be this season cause of the pandemic 🤔🤷♀️ they should get a huge bonus for even trying out this yr putting there lives on the line. All just to entertain the fans🤦♀️🤦♀️
The Cheerleaders should be allowed to get endorsement money same as any player. When they try out and are chosen, they should be able to negotiate their contact. They should be paid at least a livable wage and extra for appearances. They should be allowed to write off any salon, makeup, hair products, color etc. As this is a requirement of their job and not reimbursed by their employer. They had over 1500 people tryout for positions this year. These are the best of the best. Rockettes, professional dancers, other squads, models… They all want to make the team. The exposure helps some launch a career, but they are talented and their talent is WORTH PAYING FOR. I hope the entire NFL does this and more.
I agree with her & support what she’s doing. They should be paid more & they should be allowed to get endorsements!! The girls work hard, risk injury & put their all into it, I think they’re worth the money. I mean come on the NFL is a huge industry with billions floating around, they can at least give the girls decent pay! I never understood why the football players make millions while the girls struggle to get by!
On top of a calendar, I thought how cool would it be to also make playing cards of the cheerleaders? They can do yearly cards like the football players and have the girls name and hometown and some funny tidbits about them. But…..only if they can get the money from those playing cards. And seriously, those girls are held to strict rules because they cant afford to screw up. The players however, make millions and do all kinds of crazy stunts and they dont get fired. Fined, sure, because they can afford it.
These women knew before they applied to be a DCC that it’s a part time job and pays $12/hr. It was never a secret how much the pay is and it was never a secret that they don’t get benefits either. . If they believe the pay is too low then get a career as an accountant, in finance, project manager, etc. They pay well into the six figures with insurance. The same with teachers. They knew going in the pay isn’t the same as a project manager yet they complain the don’t make any money. Don’t take a low paying job then cry that you can’t pay the bills.
They get trained sooooooooooooooooooo hard and so do the players, but the players get payed soooo much money and the people whos job it is to cheer them on only gets payed 8 dollar an hour. All the mascot does is sit there and it gets payed 65,000 dollars!!!! What are you thinking these girls have gone through such a hard process to get where they are in cheerleading to only get payed 8 dollars an hour. FIX THIS DALLAS
Although I fully agree with this very fine and beautiful cheerleading lady and believe that all the cheerleaders should be paid fairly, the problem is that they don’t have any leverage on the team that hires them. This because if she quits due to low wages, there are 10 others who are ready and willing to take her place (at least till they realize just how hard the work is). It the mascot can be paid $65,000; the ladies deserve the same if not more because they work a lot harder.
This makes no sense. They tell you up front this is not a paying gig. You have to have another job to even be on the team. This young lady knew what she was getting into. You can’t compare the cheerleaders to the players. The players bring in tons of money because they bring in the fans to see the games. Being a cheerleader can help you get jobs later, you could end up with an acting career. It’s a step up. And these people need to understand not every job is there for you to make a living. It’s our responsibility to plan our futures. Not our employers.
People talk trash about girls who work in brothels or do sex work but we get paid much better and abused much less. I have watched the show and see the way they treat them. Just mean and unnecessary. I’m glad she was brave enough to speak up. They are expected to be perfect, criticized for their looks more than technical ability or anything else. They don’t even pay them minimum wage. Smh.
I think the reason they can’t get endorsements is because it’s not the National Cheeleaders League, it’s the National Football League. I don’t know how endorsements work but I think companies endorse the players because that’s what the league is based around and those are the people that football fans recognize.
They absolutely should be paid for every single hour that they work. However, if the team states that they get paid $8 an hour, and they’re aware of that, I don’t really see how you can blame the cowboys for that. If you wanted a higher paying job, don’t be a cheerleader, or at the very least join a team that pays more.
She was told what she was up against. Life isn’t fair. If you don’t like it, leave. People don’t come for the cheerleaders. They come for the game. The cheerleaders don’t make the Cowboys money. It’s a business. These women can go on to do other things that can make them a ton of money they wouldn’t of otherwise accomplished. It’s a stepping stone. Paying your dues.
This is a prime example of how woman are treated differently than men in the workforce. The NFL expect these woman to give and sacrifice their lives to be a cheerleader and they know woman will because it’s their dream. NFL knows this and use that to their benefit. 99% of girls auditioning will work their tail off without complaint because it’s their dream and most are young and naive. Very similar mindset to the military. Even down to how they have to say “yes ma’am” when critiqued or humiliated (Taylor Season 6). The sad reality is that they’re not going to change their ways until less girls audition and more people speak up about this injustice.
I watch the show and it was complete garbage the way that they treated those girls was completely toxic they called a girl fat when you could actually see her freaking abs yet she was fat? Then this one lady got pissed because one girl said that the girls make the uniform and the uniform doesn’t make the girls which honestly I feel like it’s true anymore on could slap on an outfit and call themselves a Dallas cowboy cheerleader but what do I know. I hope she wins.
