The “big tent conspiracy theory” that falsely claims that former President Trump is facing down a shadowy cabal of Democratic pedophiles originated in October 2017, when an anonymous user named “Q” posted a series of posts on the message board 4chan. QAnon, a popular term used to describe a host of internet conspiracies, grew out of 4chan message boards and has gained mainstream attention. The conspiracy theory began as a claim that President Trump and Robert Mueller were saving the world from cannibal pedophiles.
The conspiracy movement emerged on the online message board 4chan in 2017, when posts appeared attributed to someone claiming to be a government insider with top-secret “Q” level security.
