It’s the abstraction. Most people can solve a problem when using equivalent objects and scenarios from everyday life, but they can’t genericise that intuitively to a higher level of abstraction. Intelligent people can see patterns, abstract the fundamentals, then map that to existing knowledge, and finally apply to a different manifestation.
What makes it easy to have that passion for abstraction and to concentrate is because at a certain threshold the abstract is imaginable to a point it seems like spending time in reality. It’s exciting and interesting because you can imagine it as though it was actually going on and you were involved and the enjoyment of the “what if” comes and and you can start to fill it in! When the right abilities all function on a certain level and it all comes together your imagination will be as capable as your intellect!
