📹 Amazon’s Good Omens: Miniseries Review

Here’s our review of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens miniseries from Amazon Prime Video. Watch the Good Omens trailer: …

Is Good Omens a kids show?

The show is a great screen adaptation of a wonderful book, with excellent writing, top-notch acting, amazing music, costumes, and special effects. The show is a hymn to humanity and is enjoyed by both adults and children. The main characters drink themselves to sloppiness, but are able to reverse the process and put the liquid back in the cups. There is some swearing and a hint of sex, but it doesn’t show anything really. The show also has a drunk scene between Crowley and aziraphale, which may be scary for younger viewers. Overall, the show is a fun mini series to watch, with a rating of ten out of ten.

How many seasons did Good Omens have?

Amazon Prime Video has renewed Good Omens for a third season, confirming that it will be the last. The show’s development has been halted due to sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman. Season 2 premiered all six episodes on July 28, 2023. The cast for season 3 is expected to be mostly returning, with Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley. Jon Hamm, who disappeared in season 2, was brought back as Gabriel, a significant character in the story, as his disappearance threatened a war between Heaven and Hell. No release timeline has been established yet.

Does Good Omens have LGBT characters?

Good Omens season two is a refreshing departure from the usual LGBTQ+ show, with the cast’s support for the LGBTQ+ community. Tennant, Sheen, and Gaiman have all shown their commitment to queer characters and actors, not only in Good Omens but also in other shows like The Sandman and American Gods. This allyship is heartwarming and necessary, especially in light of JK Rowling’s hateful comments towards the trans community. Gaiman has never tried to retcon queerness into his work, unlike Rowling who admitted to thinking of Dumbledore as gay in Harry Potter books.

The show’s second season is praised for its increased queerness, and if Prime Video orders a third season, fans can expect more queerness and joy for the protagonists. Gaiman has promised to write another Good Omens novel if the show isn’t renewed, but the lesson is to avoid ending a beloved queer show on a cliffhanger before it’s confirmed for another season.

Is Good Omens having a season 2?

“Good Omens” Season 2, written by Neil Gaiman and John Finnemore, delves deeper into the “before The Beginning” period of Crowley and Aziraphale’s friendship, while also highlighting their efforts to prevent a biblical disaster in the present day. The season premieres on Amazon Prime Video. In a 2006 Q&A with Gaiman and Pratchett, they discussed the possibility of a sequel, but they couldn’t generate enthusiasm or find the right direction. They have been considering whether “never again” is set in stone, but they don’t have a definitive answer. The season is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Is Good Omens a standalone?

In 1989, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett visited the US for the World Fantasy Convention and shared a hotel room to save money. Unable to sleep due to jet lag, they started plotting a sequel to Good Omens, which was titled 668—The Neighbour of the Beast. However, after Pratchett moved to the US, he expressed doubt that a sequel would be written. Gaiman later affirmed this in his essay, Terry Pratchett: An Appreciation.

In 2017, Gaiman revealed that he and Pratchett had done some plotting for the sequel, including the possibility of a lot of angels, including Gabriel, who would be more prominent in the television series. When asked if Neil had any plans on releasing a sequel to Good Omens or maintaining its status as a standalone work, Gaiman stated that there was a plot for one that Pratchett wanted to be told, but that whether or not it would be made would depend on certain factors.

A film was planned to be directed by Terry Gilliam, but by 2006, it seemed to have come to nothing. Funding was slow to appear, and Gilliam moved on to other projects. There was rumour that Johnny Depp was originally cast as Crowley and Robin Williams as Aziraphale, but Gaiman has no idea about Good Omens casting.

In a 2013 podcast interview with Empire, Gaiman confirmed that the majority of the funding for the film was in place in 2002, but the project could not attract the initial funding to begin production.

How much time passed between season 1 and 2 of Good Omens?

Good Omens season 2 trailer has left fans excited, but Gaiman confirmed that a few years have passed since the end of Season 1. The new season takes place in real-time, suggesting it’s four years after the end of Season 1. Crowley and Aziraphale thwarted Heaven and Hell’s plans for a cataclysmic war, but managed to escape their respective factions’ vengeance through a clever ploy. They were brought into custody by their respective factions, but neither was destroyed by the punishments Heaven and Hell prepared. The trailer suggests that Heaven and Hell have kept an eye on Aziraphale and Crowley, but have not taken further action against them, leaving them to thrive in peace.

The cast for Good Omens season 2 also offers hints at what has happened between seasons. Miranda Richardson will return as the new demon character Shax, but she will not reprise the role of medium Madame Tracy. Adria Arjona, Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, and Sam Taylor Buck are confirmed not to return for the new episodes. This indicates that the characters involved in the Tadfield incident have lived ordinary lives, with Buck’s Adam having no more role in the forces of hell.

  • I’m not bothered about the lack of development for the kids or the Horsemen. The horsemen are entities that aren’t supposed to have character arcs. They’re powerful biblical beings that herald the end times. And the kids are just supposed to fill the role of kids- they embody stereotypes on purpose. The book does give more nuance to them, but otherwise the show was just fine on their portrayal. Crowley and Aziraphale were always meant to be the main focus and I’m happy to say they were portrayed beautifully!

  • Just finished this one. It gets better for each ep, ep 1 is quite cliche and meh, but it rolls nicely and funnier, it offers deepness of each side and each angels esp jon hamm and some demons. Michael Sheen and David Tennant are strong choice as main characters, and it’s hard to produce something bad with some of Queen hits. Enjoyable and recommended.

  • Big fan of the book, and my thoughts were pretty similar. I think they also took it a bit too seriously, and prioritized the apocalypse story over the humor and wit the book had. But the two leads absolutely nail it and elevate everything to great. Could have been amazing if they’d nailed the tone a bit better.

  • Like so many reviewers you fail to review what was presented but instead lament on what was not presented. The story is not about the 4 Horse Men or The Anti Christ and the kids it is about the Two Main Characters and told mainly from their point of view. The two main supporting actors were more fleshed out and as we get further down the list less is needed to move the story forward. It is not important that we care except about the two leads and what do the two leads care about.
