How many days of rituals after death?

Shraddha is a Hindu funeral rite performed in honor of a deceased ancestor, enjoined on all male Hindus. The rite is performed between the 11th and 31st day after death, depending on caste traditions, and at regular intervals thereafter. The first annual death anniversary is observed by a shraddha ceremony, allowing the deceased (preta) to be admitted into the assembly of forefathers (pitri). The importance of the birth of sons in India reflects the need for a male descendant to perform the shraddha ceremony after one’s death.

The shraddha rite is performed for the deceased father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, aiming to nourish, protect, and support the spirits of the dead in their journey from the lower to the higher realms, preceding their reincarnation and reappearance on Earth.

Does the Bible say anything about cremation?

The Bible does not explicitly prohibit or endorse cremation or the keeping, spreading, or burying of ashes. The decision to honor the dead and recognize the spiritual nature of our existence is a personal one, and it is crucial to honor their memory and respect their wishes. While there is no explicit scriptural prohibition against cremation, some believers oppose it because they believe it doesn’t honor the doctrine that God will one day resurrect their bodies and reunite them with their soul/spirit.

However, it is important to note that cremation speeds up the natural process of a body turning to dust, and God can resurrect the remains of a cremated individual just as effortlessly as those of someone who was buried.

What are the Catholic death rituals?

The Catholic Funeral Rites are a sacred time for family and friends to remember, grieve, and pray for a deceased loved one. These rites consist of three parts: the Vigil, Funeral Mass, and Committal. They serve as a reminder of the companionship and support of Christ and all believers, with the Church’s words and rituals serving as the voice and hands of Christ guiding us towards the pastures of his tender mercy. The Catholic Rites in the Order of Christian Funerals are a celebration of faith, allowing loved ones to focus on the promise of everlasting life and the hope of Eternal Resurrection in Christ.

Is Day of the Dead a religious ritual?

Dia de los Muertos is a complex holiday in Mexico, blending pre-Columbian religious traditions like Olmec, Mayan, and Aztec with Iberian observance of feast days. The holiday’s name, “dualism”, highlights the human need to understand and assign meaning to the ephermeral nature of life and death. The relationship between life and death takes center stage each year in Mexico during the three days of this holiday, making it a time of joyful celebration with warm anticipation of reunion with the dead.

Mexico is home to many great pre-Columbian civilizations, including the Olmec civilization, which set the cultural patterns for the succession of great cultures that followed. The Mayans and Aztecs incorporated elements of these cultures as their empires expanded. Many of today’s practices during Dia de los Muertos predate the Catholic presence in the Americas. Images of skulls and skeletons, tzompantli (skull racks), cempasuchil (marigold), paper banners, ritual cleaning of graves, offerings of food to the dead, and candle decoration are all antecedents to today’s observance.

The iconic influence of artistic icon Jose Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) on Dia de los Muertos is evident in his work featuring calaveras (skeletons) who lampooned class conflict, corruption, abuse of power, and other contemporary issues. The national trauma of mass death reinforced the prominence of Dia de los Muertos, and a “dance of death” continues to play a prominent role in Mexican cultural life.

What are the rituals after death in Christianity?

A Christian funeral service is a religious event that is tailored to the deceased and typically takes place at a church, crematorium, or cemetery. It includes prayers, a sermon, readings, hymns, and music or poems. The Christian faith is centered around the belief in heaven, hell, and purgatory, with the righteous going to heaven and the sinners going to hell. For those who have committed forgivable sins, they believe they must serve time in purgatory before moving on to heaven.

Typically, the Christian faith prefers burials over cremations, as they interfere with their beliefs on resurrection and the afterlife. However, if a loved one is cremated, the church requests that their ashes be respectfully buried. Christian funeral rites are a set of principles and actions carried out after a loved one’s death.

What is a ritual Catholic example?

The Sign of the Cross, the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be (Trinity Prayer), the Morning Offering, the Act of Sorrow, and the Apostles’ Creed are all examples of Christian prayers.

Does Day of the Dead go against Christianity?

Día de los Muertos is often seen as a day of merriment and cultural remembrance, not threatening the Catholic faith. However, there are differing beliefs among Catholics about celebrating holidays with pre-Christian origins. Some view these practices as idolatrous and sinful, while others believe in transforming them to free them of elements alien to the Christian faith. The Church teaches that the Gospel message can purify formerly pre-Christian practices and allow the faith to be understood by translating cultural practices into the ecclesial ethos.

This approach requires vigilant protection of the faith and the faith of others, particularly the young and weaker believers. It is crucial to purify celebrations by consciously removing vestiges of pre-Christian elements and exchanging pre-Christian meanings with the Church’s faith, such as the Day of the Dead. For example, a family could set up a remembrance table with a crucifix and votive candles, instead of an altar.

What are death rituals for atheist?

Atheists practice death ceremonies, where the body of the deceased is either cremated, burned, or buried without any religious ceremonies. The ashes and bones do not hold any significance and no tombstone is erected in the name of the dead. Atheists celebrate these ceremonies with all color and festivity, but with a rational outlook. The Atheist Centre has been in the forefront of encouraging secular ceremonies. Atheism is an alternative way of life based on scientific and social outlook, aiming at the development of an individual’s personality free from superstitions and blind beliefs.

In contrast, in atheism and humanism, ceremonies are conducted at the convenience of the people. As the world moves towards a post-religious society, the search for alternatives is essential. Religion has left a mark on all ceremonies, from birth to death, and in India, regional variations of these customs are abundant due to its multi-religious, multi-ethnic, and multicultural nature.

  • I feel it’s the stink that forced our ancestors to choose between burial or cremation. Think of it there were so many dead animals during ancient times who were neither buried nor cremated and our ancestors had to live with it. But a for a human, the ancient burial might not be what it is today, it might just have been throwing some dirt, wood and leaves to ward of foul smell as they did not have tools to dig six feet under. And then they found fire cleanses everything including foul smell( fire making has been known to the ancestors of homo sapiens even), hence the cremation started, which was good, gone in 3 to 4 hours of burning and the remnants thrown in near by river bank and every thing was squeaky clean. The burial was definitely not the kind of burial now like digging six feet under etc…as they did not have the tools to bury them. But that said burial might have been older than cremation. Both have the origins to just ward of diseases and bad smell as the human bodies emitted unbearable foul smell far higher than dead animals, which might also have lead to keeping the grave yards far away from neighborhood. Then came the religious practices which have been eternally fighting what is better.

  • Reincarnation is about the belief that the soul is eternal, the body is temporary. Just as we shed the soiled clothes, we shed the body when the time comes for us to leave. How and under what circumstances and in what form we take a new life depends on our Karma (our actions in this and the previous lives). This cycle of birth and death is believed to continue until our soul becomes pure and we realize the Supreme Bhagwan / Lord / Allah or whatever name one gives. Then, this cycle ends. We are all believed to be a small part of that Supreme. We come from that Supreme and finally, after few or several births, unite with the Supreme. The wise people do not fight about my God and your God. They know that you don’t have to go anywhere to find that Supreme. Just looking inward is enough. That is why the Vedic philosophy says “Aham Brahmasmi” meaning, “I am Brahman”. It can be interpreted as “Brahman is within me. I just need to realize this truth. I don’t have to search anywhere else”.

  • Please don’t burn the dead bodies….I still feel burning is a horrible thing to do to a dead body….. especially your LOVED ones 💞 We hate the idea of getting burn when we are alive so how can we agree to burn when someone is dead???? I feel like dead body/ Soul trying to say DO NOT BURN ME but people that are alive obviously cannot hear the dead body…..Stop cremation, just bury the body back to soil respectfully and visit the grave of your loved ones and pray for him and her 🙏 We are made up of soil, notice our skin color resembles the color of soil so let’s just return to soil once soul is out of the body……please and Thank you 🙏 I wish everyone a long 💯 yrs of Healthy Life 😊

  • Payback for being a Hindu is much much less than being a Christian or Muslim, this is what I feel being born a Hindu that too as a Brahmin Hindu. Brahmin males no more enjoys the privileges that they enjoyed in ancient times! In fact we are treated as a General Category & most doctors, engineers or persons getting job in various “good” or high posts are from the BC class! In fact even after spending huge amount of my father’s money on various IT courses & global certifications from Cisco & SAP & then getting blamed by parents, kins & relatives for not being able to make a career or even manage to get a job & remaining unemployed even at this age of 40, this is the plight of brahmins like me! I have been doing IT courses for the last 20 years in India & still no center gave me a job even after passing CCNA with high score & no cheating from NIIT, then SAP SD certification this is my plight in a country like “India”. Had I been born abroad like in Europe or America I would have surely got a job even at age 50! I just hate this country & religion

  • I am Hindu and I don’t like my cultural tradition of cremation, but also Islamist/christian burial tradition, because cremation makes dead body useless which is supposed to work as food for other living being, and burial grab place in form of graves, so in my view our dead body should be either left in sea for aqua habitat or either it should be thrown in jungle or on mountain, or buried it without making graves on it. That’s how other animals dead bodies are decomposed, and I think that’s how nature wants to use our dead bodies. About dharmic rituals or psychology behind this cremation, I don’t think we have any difference than animals in anything, we all living being have life, death, feelings, emotions, then how could they can get away with peaceful death without any post death ritual, we humans has made all these rituals to make further difference from natural process of deadbody. Every being dead body is worked as either food or contribute in making any natural resources like petrol, etc. These are not meant to just burning and waste it like that.

  • I will rather be a muslim where i can be buried with respect and compassion where flowers and grasses can grow over my grave and i can expect the visit of of my loved ones on every friday to recite surah fatiha than to be a hindu and burn into ashes forgotten forever and have just a picture on walls. This is ISLAM simple yet beautiful

  • scientific reason for burrying the deads, in my opinion is : when we burry them, the body decomposes and fertile the land, the bacterias eat the body are good for land fertilizers. the bones that destroyed in the soil, after a period of time turns into minerals and gases and we get oil, that we use as the source of power, with out oil we are nothing. oil comes from the decomposition of bones under pressure. the burning requires wood, which we waste for burning a body that could have been burried easily. Forensic study is only possible is a body is burried and can be exhumes or taken out of grave after years to find out the cause of death, if require, where as after burning one could not find the cause of death. they know hisotry that reached to us was due to the fossils of animals, humans and mummies that are scattered all over the world. othewise we would have been balnked about the prehistoric existence. last one the burrying is natural way, that all the deads go thorough including animals. whether animals burry their deads or not, but their bodies decompose and mix with the soil……Burning of dead is an environmental pollution as well.. waste of resources and destruction of jungles for wood.

  • I myself is from a Hindu brahmin family & my parents were devout blind followers of Hinduism & disciples of renowned religious organizations in Bengal. They were so superstitious & like most Indians held strong belief in astrology(the evil daughter of astronomy). They used to visit one or several astrologers every month!! If one astrological prediction failed then they would visit another astrologer on the advice of my sister who is another mad person believing in such superstitious rituals! I dont agree with him!! At least I faced the same situation when both my parents died & i was grieving so much but then they were burnt at that moment.. burial is a more sane process .. thats why both Christians & Muslims adopted it!! I still cant forget & it comes back to me as a nightmare!! I feel as if both of them were burnt alive & they had still life in them when they were being burnt!!

  • Mr first of all I pay lot of Respect to you. Because that’s what I learn. “If you study Science 🔭🧪, Burying dead is more beneficial for food chain, Oil production, Nutrients recycling and much more we can write books on its benefits, and to burn dead body…what will be the end result? Pollution, Forest cutting, Poisonous Gases addition in Environment and much more. Before becoming Philosopher try to study modern science. Thanks!

  • My daughter died in front of us and for all practical reasons she was no more, she was then taken from the hospital room to the ICU where the doctor who had operated upon her refused to give up kept on giving the electric shocks the HOD who was present told the doctor to stop as my daughter was no more, but the doctor still kept on giving the electric shocks and in one of the shocks my daughter came back, and my daughter remembers her after death experience, and today almost six years have passed since that incident

  • This is debatable but i agree with guru that bodies should be burnt. This is faster and kills the tomb theory, the spirit of a person should reside where he/she lived not somewhere in a “graveyard”. What a reality.. the ash could as well be thrown in the sea If not his/her favourite place in the house (deceased)

  • so what sadhuguru is saying in this article is that whoever is thinking that if they buried after death is better than being burned, should ask themself first are they actully “ORGANIC”. this is what i believe, what about you? if a small seed can harm soil so much then think about a full grown 60kg human full of pesticides and plastic, im one of everyone of you, but before dying if i get a chance i will change my whole lifestyle, and when i become atleast 90 percent organic then maybe i might consider burying coz i still dont understand why do we burn body

  • A important news friends… The soul can never come back to the body ..even if the soul wished it can’t come back to the body as the souls are taken by the angels with them .. think logically.. soul is forced and taken from our body by angels … As the soul never wishes to die and leave by itself .. hence proved .. the words said here is wrong .. that is ( in the vedio he said the solus try to come back so we burn quickly and end it .. this beliefs is utter waste .. be brave and think logical friends.. ❤️hope u guys not fall on to old beliefs and open your vision to reality and logistics

  • Asalamualikum to all Muslims, l want to say,O Allah,l am very grateful to You that You have blessed us with the wealth of faith, So disbelievers there is still time to recite the Kalima Tayyaba and become Muslims and say that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and then take a bath.🫀

  • I fucking hate the concept of burning loved one’s. I will bury my mom and dad after their deaths and i will ask my children to bury me once I die. When I’ll go to the graves of my closed one, I’ll feel that they are with me. I can offer gifts and foods to their graves on special days. (coming from a hindu).

  • I am separate and superior to Tennessee and Nature, it’s me and Tennessee, me above Tennessee and Nature, I am on the top of the food chain, I will never let my body decompose and return back to nature including Tennessee. I will never let my atoms spread to Tennessee and the whole world. Humans are superior over nature and Tennessee, we don’t depend on Nature and that includes Tennessee. Tennessee is not important for life on Earth, cremation for me so my atoms won’t travel themselves to Tennessee and become food for hungry Tennesseans. Humans are superior over nature and Tennessee, we don’t depend on Nature and that includes Tennessee. Tennessee is not important for life on Earth, cremation for me so my atoms won’t travel themselves to Tennessee and become food for hungry Tennesseans.

  • where’s that man’s “spirituality” now? as long as he talks about human relations and philosophical concepts with his relaxing voice, everything sounds magical. Although anyone trained could do that, even an atheist. But when it comes to religious matters, the CRAP of HINDUISM and its superstition rises and shines.

  • Yes, guru it’s in your overview. But Muslim people are respectful with dead bodies according to their Islamic rules. perusal some burning can never be lovely 🌹! I want to remember long long years ago women had to accept fire on them with their husbands. Nowadays this rule has been changed. Hinduism is not a religion, a community. It’s difficult to understand the soul are part of it. Where community people make rules. Btw I’m sorry if I’m wrong.

  • I dont agree how ever is the follower of other religion without islam i am an muslim and i feel proud of it islam is the peaceful religion of all and its the true religion and i can give you the garunty that if you follow islam and pray namaz and believe in allah you will get the jannat i can give surety and every muslim how believa allah they will go to jannat after they finish the punishment of allah this life has a end but after death it has noend no end it has no end

  • have we approx 1 billion hindu in india in the next 150 yrs mostly up to 1 billion will die and almost all be burn by there children or grandchildren or predecessor so how much wood be used in this 100 yrs to 150 yrs and how much environmental damage is happening, and if a person is buried without any extra artificel things just fully normal it way benefit for environment. so can i know nay explanation if here is a intellectual, open minded person not less EQ AND IQ Persons.

  • When you see them, their appearance impresses you. And when they speak, you listen to their ˹impressive˺ speech. But they are ˹just˺ like ˹worthless˺ planks of wood leaned ˹against a wall˺. They think every cry is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah condemn them! How can they be deluded ˹from the truth˺? What’s the point of having knowledge and wealth if you are connected to ALLAH SWT, alas by time man is really in lost smh

  • He is so clever while getting his things right he uses logic and science when he describe anything other than his point but uses or say to believe in what he is saying for instance he said its a believe that soul may come afterwards believe it its written in purana so its good . I just dont know how many of dhongis are here in India

  • Saddguruji, I would disagree with what you have said. Burials, Cremation or leaving it to the animals or in open has a belief system behind it. The beliefs behind burying or cremating are not uniform but varies from regions, cultures and time. Your explanation for cremation or burials is not true for others; you need to read history, for the past practices, of different regions to why know they buried or cremated, and not generalize them. Similarly you need to study or observe the present practices of disposing the dead, and the beliefs behind them.

  • 2: 260. And remember when Ibrahim asked: “My Lord! Show me how you are reviving the dead”; He asked: “Didn’t you believe?” He (Ibrahim) said: “Of course I do, but just to get peace and tranquility for my heart”. He said: “You take 4 kinds from birds, then cut their bodies into pieces and mix them well, then put a portion of them on every hill. Then you call them, they will come to you all of a sudden. And you know that indeed, Lord Allah is the Exalted, the Wise.” Messenger Ibrahim asked Lord to show him how He revives the dead. Then the Lord ordered to take four kinds of birds (like cock, pigeon, peacock, and crow), and to cut them into pieces and mix them well, then to put a portion from it on seven hills, and then to call them out. Thus, the birds all came swiftly to Ibrahim at once. This was how Lord revealed to Ibrahim the secret sovereignty of the universe as explained in verse 6: 75. Some translators have translated the Arabic word ‘Faswurhunna Ilaika’ into ‘to incline or tame unto you’ without considering the Message of verse. These worthless people even don’t know that the name of the ‘Best Interpretation of the Book’ from the Lord is ‘Adhikr’. So they will be dragged prone on their faces into Hell, they are in the worst place, and the most strayed as told in verses 25: 18 and 33-34. See explanation 2: 73, 234, and 4: 158. • I want to be cremated and have my ashes scattered all over Tennessee so I can become one with my favorite vacation state. I don’t want to be buried in the home state I dislike, I feel more connected and at home in Tennessee than my home state Alabama. Don’t bury me in Alabama scatter my ashes in Tennessee.
