What Signs Indicate A Yod In Astrology?

A Yod, also known as the “finger of God” or “finger of fate”, is a rare formation in astrology charts that consists of two planets in a sextile aspect (60 degrees apart) and both forming a quincunx aspect (150 degrees). This unique arrangement can reveal insights into a person or event with strong, powerful, and mystical forces. However, it can also indicate stress, anxiety, and uneasiness.

To identify a Yod in your birth chart, look for a specific planetary alignment. This configuration consists of two planets in sextile aspect (60 degrees) and both forming an uncomfortable 150-degree quincunx (or inconjunct) angle to a third planet. Understanding and interpreting a Yod can reveal insights into an individual’s cosmic purpose, which involves self-reflection and understanding. Key indicators for a Yod include specific angular relationships between these planets. Each planet in a Yod configuration contributes its unique energy and qualities to its interpretation.

A Yod pattern is an equilateral triangle made of two planets in sextile aspect (60 degrees with an orb of 6 degrees or less in the natal chart) and both of them forming an uncomfortable 150-degree quincunx (or inconjunct) angle to a third planet. The Yod is formed when three planets in the sky form a triangle, with two planets forming the base and one planet at the apex.

A Yod is a rare occurrence when three points on a birth chart create an isosceles triangle. It can be found in your natal chart or between two people when drawing up a synastry chart. If you have a natal sextile, a Yod can be formed when a transiting or progressing planet moves into the apex planet position, creating a unique cosmic purpose.

In summary, identifying a Yod in your birth chart involves obtaining a copy of your birth chart, looking for triangular formations, and understanding the role of each planet or point involved. By following the steps provided in this guide, you can gain insights into your unique cosmic purpose and the significance of a Yod in your life.

📹 The Yod in Astrology and My Spiritual Awakening Story // Understanding the YOD Aspect Pattern

Hi beautiful souls! Do you have a Yod in your chart? Comment below which planets and houses your Yod is and how is it …

What activates a Yod?

Yods are activated most powerfully when transiting planets are in opposition to the apex, representing a polarity and the opposite energy. Oppositions often come with tension and challenge, but they represent the exact opposite energy, which is what we are missing. The author was never particularly interested in astrology, but has recently delved into it in detail due to feeling how the shifting of planets and luminaries directly affects their energy.

As they grew on their spiritual journey, they noticed their monthly cycle aligned with the Full Moon and felt more sensitive emotionally and tired around large cosmic events like eclipses. They started using The Pattern app, which collates natal astrology, transits, and synastry with other people. Drawing up their own natal and synastry charts has become a new world for them, finding the insights it reveals within their life and relationships to be profound and deeply insightful.

What is a birth chart with YODS?

A Yod pattern in Astrology is more connected than a quincunx, with a sextile aspect that facilitates communication and brings opportunities. Yods can create events, incidents, and relationships in a person’s life, often as an opportunity or curse. They can bestow gifts like talent or higher intelligence, bring about unusual situations, or cause steep ups and downs. The overlapping factor in these instances is the person’s lack of control over what can occur, which can be negative or positive.

During these incidents, a transit or progression triggers the Yod energy, with the planets, sign, and area of the chart involved determining the nature of the outcome. The Yod can bestow gifts, bring about unusual situations, or create a feeling of another force controlling the show.

How common are yods?

The Yod, also known as the finger of God or the finger of Fate in Hebrew, is a rare pattern in a birth chart where three planets assemble at specific angles to form an isosceles-like triangle. The meaning of the Yod can be interpreted based on the house and sign the planets occupy. Yod bearers often experience a sense of fatedness, pressure, and stress to fulfill a mission that hasn’t fully revealed itself. This can be uncomfortable, as the potential for greatness comes with high levels of discomfort. However, certain events may push the Yod onto the path to complete the soul’s mission.

What is the rarest birth chart?

The Grand Cross, or Grand Square, is a rare natal chart aspect in astrology where four personal planets are separated by 90 degrees on the birth chart, forming a square shape and cross. Each of the four elements of astrology is represented in this cross, with all signs sharing the same modality. The Grand Cross’s energy is conflicting due to the tense and oppositional square aspect, which can create difficulties for the native. This is particularly relevant for those in the Angular, Cadent, or Succedent Houses, as squares and oppositions can create difficulties in finding love.

How do you determine if you have a Yod?

In astrology (in the context of an astrological chart, birth chart or horoscope), a yod is a specific, planetary alignment that is formed by two planets being sextile to one another (60° apart), with a third planet being exactly 150° to the other two points, or quincunx (also called inconjunct). In essence, the three points add up as 150°+150°+60°=360° in a traditional, spherical astrological chart. Visually, this alignment forms a pattern, with one point being nearly directly across (150°) from two other points that are 60° apart from each other.

Generally, in astrology, for any aspect to be seen prominently in a chart, the planets/points involved in the aspect should not have more than a three-degree difference. This means that all three points must be within a three-degree range of one another, such as 3°-5°-6°, or 10°-7°-8°; a trio of planets with placements such as 3°-21°-15° or 10°-27°-2° is considered too “wide” to have any real connection, thus there is no aspect formed.

While the sextile is an inherently harmonious aspect, the quincunx is unrelated to either of the sextile planets. Quincunxes are considered to be somewhat awkward but also allowing the other energy to shine at its best, one making up for the other. A quincunx is the aspect just shy of an opposition; for example, Gemini is in opposition (180°) to Sagittarius, and Scorpio and Capricorn are located on either side of Sagittarius. Thus, Gemini is said to be “inconjunct”, or quincunx, to Scorpio and Capricorn (150° apart). Conversely, on either side of Gemini lie the signs Taurus and Cancer; thus, Sagittarius is quincunx to Taurus and Cancer. It is not fully 180° (a true opposition within a 360° sphere), but placed just before or after the opposite sign. It shares neither polarity – Yin/assertive or yang/receptive, astrological element – fire, water, air, or earth, or modality – cardinal, fixed, or mutable.

What is the symbol for Yod?

Yodh is the tenth letter of the Semitic abjads, including Phoenician yōd, Hebrew yud, Aramaic yod, Syriac yōḏ ܝ, and Arabic yāʾ ي. Its sound value is /j/ in all languages and serves as a long vowel in many languages. The Phoenician letter gave rise to Greek Iota, Latin I and J, Cyrillic І, Coptic iauda (Ⲓ), and Gothic eis. The term yod is often used to refer to the speech sound (j), a palatal approximant, even in languages not written in Semitic abjads, as in phonological phenomena like English “yod-dropping”.

What does Yod symbolize?

In the Jewish mystical tradition, Yod represents a divine point of energy, used to form all other letters and as the building blocks of creation. Yod symbolizes God’s omnipresence, moving downward from the divine to form Vav, the “hook” of creation, and outward as Dalet, the “doorway” of creation. Yod is considered the starting point of God’s presence in all things, as it is part of every Hebrew letter and word, and Yeshua upholds the world through the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3).

What is the symbol for a Yod in astrology?

A Yod in astrology is a unique formation between at least three planets, resembling a tall, thin triangle. It is an equilateral triangle with two planets in sextile (60 degrees) and forming an uncomfortable 150-degree quincunx angle to a third planet. The sextile planets are two zodiac signs apart and form an easy angle, but they are challenging five signs apart to the planet at the apex of the Yod, creating an uncomfortable energy of friction and adjustment.

  • Hello, I have two yods, one points to my ascendant libra, Chiron in Pisces sextile sun in Taurus . My other yod points to Uranus in leo, Saturn and mars sextile . I struggled with authority, especially in the family home, father son issues my mother . I found it hard to integrate with others, and singled out for my behaviour . As I have got older and found creative outlets to express myself and integrate with these two points, Uranus and ascendant it has explained my own destiny and understanding . Insightful thank for taking about yods …

  • I too have this configuration in my chart. My apex is Chiron in Gemini and Quincux with Pluto 29 degrees in Libra my 5th house and Quincux Neptune 0 degrees in Capricorn my 6th house. You could say that life hasn’t been easy, my whole life has been about healing my wounds and gaining a greater understanding and boundaries in the process of caring about others and developing and understanding my spiritual side as well in everything I do. It definitely seems that healing these wounds take precedence in my life.

  • Thank you for this informative article. I have two yods in my chart! One with neptune apex in the 3rd house. I noticed that I can’t express my thoughts and opinions in real life conversations, I got interrupted or people make fun of my childish interests and talk. I can type them, think about them but not talking about them. Neptune make quincunx with leo moon on mc, interestingly that my mom is very talkative and fearful of me saying something wrong in public so she trying to stop me, change the subject or drawing attention to her when I talk. I grow up to be cautious and speaking less in public. I wonder if that makes sense to the configuration.

  • I have a YOD in my birth chart. My moon is in Scorpio in the 3rd house. Pluto is in Virgo on my ascendant in the 1s house & my Mars is in Aries in the 8th house. Could someone tell me it’s meaning cos the Alex is in the 8th house in Aries & seems scary. I’ve tried my best to understand the GOD & this was the best description so far but I still don’t know how to interpret mins so any help please anyone? Thanks in advance to anyone who may help 😁

  • This is interesting… my husband has less than one degree orb between Venus (cancer, 12th house) and his moon (Sag 5th house) I would have to say, after our talks ( but I will look into this more for feedback for your followers) that he has had issues and challenges with love and money. starting over in life a few times. He also has an exact quincunx with his sun (leo 2nd house) and his north node (6th house capricorn) … myself I have a quincunx with chiron (9th house aries) and north node (4th house scorpio)

  • I have TWO YODS in my chart A. Pluto (1st/2nd house cusp in Scorpio) sextile Neptune (3rd house Capricorn), both quincunx to Chiron (8th house Gemini/Taurus cusp) as the Apex B. Chiron sextile Sun (6th house Aries – debilitated by a square to Neptune), quincunx to Pluto as the Apex. I have a lot of plutonian and Chiron themes more recently coming up in my life as well as abundant energy of these planets in my chart. (Experienced sexual trauma abuse as a child and have been struggling with power issues my entire life esp. in relationship. Lots of boundary issues (Neptune) abuse (Mars opp Pluto) and just general self worth challenges. I am really trying to understand how these YODS inform the way I need to approach and work with these energies. I find it odd that both Pluto and Chiron are in both of them. My desire in learning astrology is to figure out how to negotiate the harder aspects of my chart/personality and heal these trauma issues so I can have healthy functional relationships with other humans.

  • I have 3 Yods, in Taurus, Cancer, and Sagittarius plus a T-Square in the 11th house, grand square in Jupiter, ASC, MC, and mars as well as a Cradle in Jupiter, MC, Pluto, Neptune, and Sun. I also have North Mode in Capricorn. I’m on a life path of 7 so my whole life has been one of the Phoenix. What does this mean and what aspect should I focus on first? Thanks so much for this article! Much love and light to you all! Namaste! 🙏🏾❤

  • I have at least 3 yod’s (free reading) in composite chart 1.sun in 17° Virgo Chiron in 18° Aquarius Moon in 16° Aries 2. Moon 16° in Aries Pluto in 12° Scorpio Sun 17° Virgo. 3. Uranus in 28° Sagittarius Jupiter in 28° Taurus Mars in 28° Cancer. Also have a Water Grand Trine, Kite, A Cradle and 2 T-Squares.

  • Interesting! Thanks! Talk about yods…I have one, Neptune/Uranus with the apex=Saturn. Saturn is Aries in House 8. I also have Saturn square sun, moon, mercury, and mars. When I read Liz Greene’s Saturn book, I realized that all the Saturn squares came from a difficult childhood with a mentally ill mother, and that the Saturn should be read like that in the yod. Basically, Saturn childhood problems are holding back my ability to be in the world as myself (Uranus), and my writing ability (Nep 3). And, is that ever the truth. UGH. Here’s the fascinating bit. A guy I broke up with three years ago has the yod turned in the opposite direction. Superimpose our yods and my Saturn makes his yod a boomerang yod, while his sun conj Neptune makes MY yod a boomerang yod. According to what I’ve read about yods, if a planet turns your yod into a boomerang yod, that planet is telling you what you need to do to solve the problems symbolized by your yod. Saturn is the planet of hard work and lessons learned; so, to solve his yod, he needs to work hard and learn some lessons. My Saturn is all about understanding wounds from childhood, which he definitely needs to do since he is an ACoA. So there I am, showing him how to solve his yod issues. His Sun conj Neptune is about finding oneself through creativity, which I need to do to be myself in the world instead of picking sick relationships like the one with my mom over and over again and not engaging the world with my talents because I’m enmeshed in sick relationship all the time.

  • I have 2 of these. 1st Yod Saturn retrograde in the 10th house 00 degrees in Virgo – Jupiter in the 2nd house 27 degrees in Capricorn (Sagittarius rules 2nd house), and Venus in Aries in the 4th house, which Pieces rules. 2nd Yod Jupiter in the 2nd House in Capricorn 27 degrees (Sag rules 2nd) – Saturn in Virgo in 10th house 00 degrees – Uranus in the 7th house 26 degree in Gemini. I have had problems with money and career.

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge Marina. My husband has a Yod configuration in his natal chart. The apex planet is Mercury in Virgo in the 8th house (Placidus) with Saturn (retrograde) in Aquarius in the 2nd house and Jupiter (retrograde) in Aries in the 3rd house. He worked in sales (Mercury) for 35 years. He preferred deals worked on over months or even years (Saturn) rather than fast selling. This meant It took time (Saturn) for the commission to be paid (2nd house). He worked mostly and did well (Jupiter) in the motor racing industry and IT (3rd house). He has changed completely now (at 54) and is following his passion for music, particularly the guitar (Mercury) and transforming old motorbikes (8th house Mercury). He has a stellium in Leo also so loves the performance side of music.

  • Hi Marina. I have this Yod configurations in my life. Mars in 3rd house and Venus with Sun in 5th house make a Yod to my Chiron in the 10th house. I truly feel like life has always put me in situations where supervisors never want to promote me despite my strides to always be a top performer. I feel like no matter what I do and how perfect my performance is, I can never reach the top of my career. (I’m a Capricorn sun btw so career is important to me). I’ve seen less scrupulous people get ahead without the accolades I have. It’s disappointing/hurtful and I lose hope at times, but my Capricorn sun keeps me striving forward.

  • My Yod of Jupiter/Pluto (Virgo) sextile Neptune (Scorpio) point to Saturn in Aries. It has made me a depressed person over the years no matter what I study, read, try and grow. Sun /Ascendent in Libra so a 12th house Sun with Uranus on the Sun. It sucks is all I can say and I feel like a prisoner of Saturn. Not in its best placing in Aries.

  • This question is probably a little late but might as well try… Are there any other factors that can manipulate the apex of a yod?…. I have Leo apex in the 7th house with Pisces and Capricorn flirting with each other but I’m falling to see the obstacle that the dignified Leo in me is battling with my flirtatious fishes and Billy goat gruff edges… I guess I’m trying to ask in a yod aspect is the obstacle solely determined by the house Gov planet apex and sextiles of the yod aspect or can other aspects play inside the love triangle as well?

  • I’ve read that biquintiles and quintiles can soften a difficult quincunx and may actually point to a talent. My yod points at Neptune, at the top of my chart, with Jupiter (in Aries) and Venus (in Gemini) sextile. I’m an artist and shaman/medium who “Sees” in dreaming, and my Neptune will be triggered when Uranus hits the 13th degree of Taurus, which I think happens around Samhain (Halloween). Neptune rules the 12th house, and this is where the action will be, and you can probably see why I’m asking this: Can you talk about how planets trigger other planets and what that looks like in someone’s life, maybe by using my example?

  • I am super curious if the effect of a 3 or 4 degree orb set of inconjuncts would be reinforced or blunted or nonexistent if they were angular, or part of an additional pattern, or somehow duplicated or triplicated elsewhere in the chart. I have a 4 degree orb yod of Pluto Libra 3rd, Neptune Sag 5th cusp, Chiron Taurus conjunct MC 10th, boomerang Uranus Scorpio 4th. I guess what I have experienced is…I know pain. Empathy is inconvenient, not always positive and can poison you, along with being a transformative superpower. Fantastic article.

  • I have this. Moon is in the 7th house in Gemini (planet on the top of yod), in fixed star Bellatrix. Sextile is made by Uranus (2nd house) and Mercury (12th house). Mercury rules my 7 and 10th house. I m finishing law school. Had some issues with mother in early age, but now we overcome it. I have stellium in Scorpio 12th house. Always felt like I have a special mision in life XD Also my Asc and Sun conjucts fixed star Antares. Great article, tnx. 😇

  • How does it show in the birth aspect table? I got two symbols that look like a semi-sextile (with V pointing up) and I checked online and said these are symbols of “quincunx”, but it don’t fit in with your examples here as mine are signs next to one another. (my north node in Scorpio with my Uranus in Libra and my Venus in Virgo with my Pluto in Libra…so I think this is not what your talking about, right? I think you don’t count the neighbor signs.

  • Thanks for the article. I have 7 Quincunx aspects and one Yod. The Appex is on Neptune (In 9 degree Sagittarius in the 11th House). The feet are Mars (in Taurus) and Mercury (in Cancer)….I don’t know how it is manifesting in my life. I just discovered I had this. I have a quite difficult chart anyway (I think), full of squares and oppositions and 4 personal planets in fall or determent)….I think the only relatively well-aspected charitable planet in my chart is Mercury (I think)….so I don’t know if it is down to quincunxes or squares or falls/determent planets that my life is so weird (but it’s not as bad as it looks on the paper; I guess…I mean I do enjoy my life. I am not suicidal (any more) or depressed, but I do have a lot of inner conflicts, self blames, procrastination, under achievement, etc.). I don’t know how accurate my perception of my Yod is, BUT it’s been quite some time that I had this wild idea (more like a dream than a plan) of making movies about my country (Iran) to change the perception of the world through movies. Like using ancient Persian epic stories or the lives of ancient kings, etc…something dreamy, distant, and glamours….My Mars is in the 4th house, which makes me very patriotic (but also my Sun, Saturn, and mercury in Cancer too). And my Mercury is in the 6th house (possibly 7), which makes me quite meticulous (but then my Venus is in Virgo, so it could be because of that)…..Previously, I decided there was nothing in my chart that suggested I should produce movies (I have nothing in Leo or Pieces or the 5th&12th houses).

  • Mercury in Taurus 10, Sextile Uranus in Cancer 12; both inconjunct Moon in Sagittarius 5. Moon rules ASC and opposite Sun conjunct Mars at 29 Taurus in 11. I’m using Astrology to understand the physical (beatings), sexual (incest), emotional (abandonment), mental (lies) and Spiritual of ABUSE that occurred in my youth. Mercury rules the 4 & 12 (yes, I was in a Catholic Orphanage). Sun rules 2 and Mars co-rules 10, but it is itercepted, Pisces MC . Uranus, the 8th. In yods, you are blindsided. No aspect configuration speakes ABUSE as loudly as a Yod.

  • Hi Marina, I have 4 tight yod configurations, but I have two questions; 1) Can the Ascendant or the Midheaven be involved in a yod configuration? 2) I read in some places that if a slow moving outer planet is the apex planet of the yod, then that is not really considered a true yod, the apex planet needs to be the faster moving planet, do you agree with this? My yods: -Moon sextile Mercury (asc ruler), both inconjunct Neptune -Moon sextile Mercury (asc ruler), both inconjunct Uranus -Moon sextile Midheaven, both inconjunct Uranus -Pluto sextile Uranus, both inconjunct Midheaven

  • My Yod 1st, 4th and 9th houses midpoint of the sextile at 20 degrees Scorpio. It points to 18’ Pallas Athena in Taurus in the 9th House. So when Sun-Mercury-Venus and Moon pass over them, an event is likely to take place. My trigger points are 12’ Libra, my stellium in Sagittarius, but particularly my 18’ Jupiter and 24’ Sun, and then 18’ Taurus. The midpoint at 20’ Scorpio. Are sensitive spots in my chart.

  • Please, help, i’m so lost about my life purpose… I have a Yod (Venus 12th Aquarius sextile Moon/Mars Sagittarius 9th with Jupiter Apex in Cancer 5th house and Jupiter apex is opposite my Sun/Uranus 11th house in Capricorn so boomerang) what does that mean? I hesitate about creative life or spiritual life… Which one i have to choose? The trick is My Sun/Uranus are rulers of my Nodes… Sun (south) Uranus (North) and Jupiter rules my Midheaven (my north node is in Aquarius 12th)

  • Hello,I have talent triangle between Mercury Neptune and Pluto with Neptune Apex (11h sag) and yod between Mercury in 1sth aqua, Saturn 7house cancer and Neptune in 11 h n.node sag with Apex in Saturn of course I can’t figure out what it means except maybe to set boundaries All my life I struggle with everything Anybody knows what it means I am trying to understand but I simply cannot get it

  • Thank you, I have two yods Ascendant Quincunx sun and Chiron Uranus Quincunx mars Saturn My later life I have took to astrology like a duck to water Overcoming so many obstacles and learning to be humble astrology benefits me and becoming a practicing Astrologer . Thank you so much for your knowledge

  • Thanx for your lesson. I’m trying to understand the yod. I have three of them in my natal chart. One points to Jupiter in Aries in the 6th house. A second pointing to Saturn in Aquarius in the 4th house. A third pointing to Pluto in Virgo in the 11th house. There is a lot of Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter involved with these yods. Pluto is actually in all three. I also have two T-Squares and a rectangle which I also want to learn understand. Thanx again

  • Hello, I have a yod which is basically my whole chart. Pluto and Saturn sextile Neptune and the Moon and inconjunct Chiron. Through the middle of the sextile Jupiter and Uranus oppose Chiron and Sun Mars less than 10 degrees away. I can’t say I understand it but since I learned about it through astrology I am more able to work with it. The challenge is I think- bringing in the blind spots where I have more to see.

  • Hello! I’m a new viewer and found this quite enlightening. I have a YOD with Saturn Inconjunct Venus Sextile Pallas. Saturn is in the 10th House ruled by Capricorn. Saturn is at home in Capricorn and I have a major stellium in Capricorn (MC, Juno, True Node, N.Node, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn.) I’m a Taurus Sun & Moon, both in the 12th House. I am still trying to discern what this YOD is asking of me. Do you have any advice?

  • Thank you. My husband has 2 of these in his chart. I would like to request a article on the Golden Yod. I have one and I just can’t figure it out. Saturn Apex (Aries 11th) biquintile Venus and Moon. Venus (Virgo 4th) quintile Moon (Scorpio 6th). And Virgo is conjunct Jupiter. Moon is conjunct Neptune:( and Mercury. And my Sun sits right in the middle of Venus and Moon opposite the Apex pt. Saturn (boomerang yod). Plus Saturn is the bucket handle of my chart pattern. It is driving me nuts trying to understand it.

  • Thanks to a wery eyelifting teatching. Acctuly i dont have take in mind the yod thing in my astrologic knowleeds . Its also a kind of new thing between astrologers as well, to take in count in the horoscope . But it you have right that the horoskope is a lifetime challenges to work on to weaken its negativ aspekt and excange to positive one or less dramatic issues. I have a yod in my horoscop the point is Jupiter in Aries qvinkuns Mars in scorpio sextil Pluto in Virgo.qvincuns back to Jupiter. what it make perhaps more dramatic or exiting is that i have the sun in Libra opposit Jupiter. And this aspect o have been aware of since i begun studie astrology becouse it have been a strong negative aspect in my life that I go in easily in confict with athoratys bosses, strong fathers figurs etc. But the yod configuration to the same point shows that its a mirror the athoraty I to my self and to solving that riddel to the issue o guess. When life progress i see it cleatly in my life as well. Or have you some other ideea. please cheer.
