What The Acronym Rite Means In A Hearing Aid?

Receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) hearing aids are similar to behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids, but with one major difference: the receiver, or speaker, fits inside the ear canal instead of in the hearing aid shell. These open-fit styles are fitted with a soft tip, called a RIE, which sits directly in the ear canal without sealing it. RITE hearing aids are the latest type of hearing aid to be developed, and their two-piece design allows them to be worn comfortably behind or on top of the ear while a person is wearing them.

There is often confusion about two particular styles, RIC (Receiver in Canal) and RITE (Receiver in The Ear). Both are wired receiver hearing aids, where the receiver is at the end of a wire and is placed in position in the ear canal. RITE hearing aids are smaller than standard BTE models but are easy to wear.

RITE hearing aids have two main components connected by a tiny wire: one part rests behind the ear and a small curved piece of plastic holds the microphone, amplifier, and battery, which powers the device. They can also be called receiver in canal hearing aids, RIC hearing aids, or RITE hearing aids.

Hearing aids can be divided into three categories: RITE (in ear hearing aid), BTE (behind the ear hearing aid), and ITE. RITE hearing aids are similar to BTE devices, with the body of a RITE hearing aid sitting behind the ear. A thin receiver wire extends from the body over the outer ear and into the ear canal.

In summary, RITE hearing aids are similar to BTE devices, but with a smaller, less visible receiver system. They are designed to be worn comfortably behind or on top of the ear, and their advantages and benefits can greatly benefit individuals with hearing loss.
