Interceptions in astrology refer to the phenomenon where a planet is placed within a zodiac sign but is not actually present in that sign in the sky. This can happen when a sign covers more than 30 degrees. Intercepted signs hold hidden qualities and lessons, impacting personal growth and providing unique challenges in an individual’s life.
Intercepted houses in astrology represent unique celestial energies and transformative dynamics that shape an individual’s spiritual, emotional, and psychological well-being. They are fully contained in one house and do not appear on a house cusp. Astrologers decode these signs by delving deep into the symbolism they carry and the implications.
Intercepted signs have a lesser effect and are more “private” or “unconscious”. They are more “private” or “unconscious” than the other signs in an astrological chart. For example, someone with a Scorpio Ascendant might have a private life that seems intricately interwoven with their public image.
In horoscopes erected for northern or southern latitudes, the 12 houses are not all evenly spaced at 30 degrees. An intercepted sign in an astrological chart occurs when a sign is completely contained in one of the houses and does not appear on the cusp of a house. The houses intercepted indicate a past and present life karmic dynamic, which can lead to a past-life-karmic failure. If a Cancer/Capricorn or fourth/tenth house axis is intercepted, it may result in a private life that seems to be intricately interwoven with one’s public image.

Can you be two signs at once?
Individuals born on the cusp, that is, on the boundary between two zodiac signs, may experience an identity crisis. However, this can be seen as an opportunity to embrace the best aspects of both identities.
Why are Taurus and Scorpio so drawn to each other?
Those born under the signs of Taurus and Scorpio are characterized by their determination, loyalty, and strength of character. Taurus’s down-to-earth nature serves to complement Scorpio’s intensity. This equilibrium may result in a passionate relationship; however, Taurus’s obstinacy may prove incompatible with Scorpio’s desire for control. It is imperative that both parties are willing to compromise in order for the relationship to be successful. The period during which this relationship is likely to flourish is from April 20 to May 20.
What does an intercepted house mean?
Interception is the act of a sign being completely swallowed by a house, never touching a house cusp. This is a common astrological question, but it is not possible in certain house division systems. Many astrologers prefer traditional methods like Equal houses or “whole sign houses” where no interceptions are possible. This is because houses and signs are conflated in these systems, making interception irrelevant. In the Equal house system, all houses are thirty degrees wide, and no house is wide enough to swallow a sign. Therefore, interception is not relevant in these systems.
How to read an intercepted chart?
A house intercepts a sign, causing its beginning and ending degrees to not appear on its cusps. When one sign is intercepted, the opposite or 180 degrees away sign is also intercepted, resulting in two intercepted houses. This dual type of energy is represented by the sign on the cusp. However, some systems of house division, such as equal house and whole house systems, do not allow interception.
Who is more stubborn, Taurus or Scorpio?
Taurus is the most stubborn zodiac sign, similar to Scorpio’s tendency towards stubbornness. If Scorpio is considered to be particularly stubborn, it would be advisable to check the moon sign or rashi.
What is the intercepted house in Aries Libra?
If your Aries/Libra or first/seventh house axis is intercepted in your horoscope then people around you are likely to find that you have a very complex personality which can be very difficult to understand, while you may have alternately observed that those who you tend to form close alliances with are very complicated themselves. You may find that your lifestyle has or will change in a major way at least once, and this change in circumstances is likely to be directly linked to a marriage, divorce or partnership. It is very likely that you will consequently go through some rather profound transformations, and persons who knew you when you were young will consider you to be completely different in later years.
Partnerships will be very important to you as you develop several multifaceted relationships which give you the stimulus you need. At least once during the course of your life you will find that an adversary will have such a profound impact on you that it will forever change the way you view the world. Although this experience may be deeply unsettling, it will help you to fully understand the true meaning of friendships from those who stand by you in your time of need.
If your Taurus/Scorpio or second/eighth house axis is intercepted you will view money and possessions in a very compulsive manner which others may have difficulty fully understanding. You will begin earning money at an early age and acquire wealth in a variety of ways because you are not content to have just one source of income. You may also change your career at least once, and this is likely to profoundly change your standard of living. Many career changes are likely to bring about a loss of income, at least initially, so you may find yourself in a financial depression while you are working on establishing yourself in your new line of work.
How to unlock intercepted planets?
The interception system in a chart operates similarly to a Japanese safe-chest with secret drawers. To access the secret compartment and intercepted signs, one must follow a specific sequence of keys. The first key, ruler of the house cusp, and the second key, ruler of the intercepted sign, unlocks the intercepted planet. Fulfillment depends on unlocking the interception, which is often assigned delays, hard work, and frustration.
Intercepted Sun (and house of Leo) is a challenging situation as it requires a sense of ego, purpose, and importance to be built. The power of the will and personality essence remain elusive until the voice inside is found.
Intercepted Moon (and house of Cancer) may point to the past and the relationship with the mother, hindering growth due to obsolete past emotional reactions. Addressing and confronting intense emotions is necessary for growth.
What are intercepted nodes in astrology?
Nodes are symbolic interceptions where the Moon’s path crosses the ecliptic, used by ancients to predict eclipses and predict life longevity. They have been used in astrology since the 1st Century BCE, with Indian astrologists using Rahu (North Node) and Ketu (South Node) in their delinations. The Karmic qualities associated with nodes in modern western practice were borrowed from Joytish traditions after Eastern philosphies reached the west in the 20th century.
Many people become interested in astrology after learning about sun signs, as these symbolic points are key in outlining the soul’s purpose and often serve as pillars of destiny when one finds a crossroad in life.
What is intercepted Scorpio and Taurus?
Intercepted arcs are a type of astrological sign that can be found in various houses in a person’s natal chart. They can indicate problems or difficulties, changes in a person’s life, and the impact on their life.
Intercepted arcs can occur in multiple houses, but they are not always problematic. They can change due to planetary transits and remain fixed throughout a person’s life. The first house that presents challenges related to personal identity is the 1st House, while the 2nd House, 5th House, 8th House, and 11th House may indicate financial issues.
Astrologers interpret intercepted arcs by focusing on the ruling planet of the intercepted sign, emphasizing the aspects between the intercepted planets and other chart factors, disregarding intercepted arcs as insignificant, or analyzing the intercepted house alone. They are a universal concept in all astrological systems.
Intercepted arcs can reveal untapped abilities or potential, but they have no significance beyond their cusp positions. For example, the 3rd House might indicate communication challenges for individuals with an intercepted arc, while the 4th House might face challenges related to home, family, or sense of belonging.
In summary, intercepted arcs can indicate hidden talents or potential, but they are not always problematic. They can also indicate challenges related to communication, finances, and communication. Astrologers interpret intercepted arcs by focusing on the ruling planet of the intercepted sign, emphasizing the aspects between intercepted planets and other chart factors, disregarding intercepted arcs as insignificant, or analyzing the intercepted house alone.

What does it mean when a sign is intercepted in astrology?
Intercepted signs refer to the fact that in horoscopes for northern or southern latitudes, two out of the 12 houses are not evenly spaced at 30 degrees apart. This results in two out of the 12 signs getting swallowed up inside two opposing houses, causing two other signs to govern two houses instead of one.
Over the years, research on interceptions has not covered the subject thoroughly. Some writers believed that intercepted signs had to do with past lives, but the source and mechanics of this information are not well understood. Others suggested that intercepted signs were related to suppressed qualities in an individual, making it difficult for them to express in a positive way.
In recent years, an explanation for interceptions has been found that the nature of the signs indicates that the client’s early life was influenced by a family problem and that they played second fiddle to it. This resulted in the child feeling uncomfortable in situations where the original problem became an issue, leading to overcompensation or a lack of understanding about how to address it.
In summary, intercepted signs can have significant implications for a client’s life and career, as they can indicate a family problem that the client may have struggled with and may overcompensate for.

How to find out if you have an interception in your birth chart? What does it mean if you have an intercepted sign, house and …
Very informative. Thank you. I’ve had astrologers tell me I have intercepted houses, but never explain the impact that might have or what they were. I have the Pisces intercepted in the second house and matters related to that house have been a struggle. In the 8th house I have Virgo intercepted. You’re a great teacher. I’ve watched this article twice and picked up new learning each time 🙏🏼
I have Pisces in the first house intercepted across from Virgo in the 7th house. in Virgo I have Venus retrograde Mercury and the sun in the 7th house intercepted no planets in my first house Pisces. But my ascendant sign is Aquarius sun is in Leo. So I’m all messed up here 😭. The good thing is that I figured this out in this lifetime hopefully I can change or unlock my Venus which is retrograde. Because I have no friends no body talks to me anymore it’s just horrible. I am practicing self-love so that is a start.
I must say that I learned a lot of astrology over the years and never got to understand the precise effect of having my first house with intercepted Aries and therefore also Libra intercepted in the 7th house. In the past I searched everywhere for information regarding this and only with your article I got the idea. I must confess that the fact is that I am 27 years old by now and that I never even kissed a girl and I still don’t believe it will be even possible in the future even though I appear to be a pretty normal person. What happens in reality is that when I meet a girl that interests me I always end up being the only one who starts a conversation to try to connect and as I see no effort on the other side to connect with me I always end up giving up. I don’t even have any planet in these two houses so their weight on my life is very low. Thank you for sharing this insight as I have been waiting very long for a lesson specifically about intercepted signs (I didn’t even know they were called like that).
Thank you! thank you! thank you!! Finally I understand interceptions!! Not completely but I will watch again until I fully understand it all! I could never figure out why the heck my Pisces/Virgo was the way it was!! Although it’s in my 6th house (Virgo) and 12th House (Pisces). Now I understand all my digestive problems and why it’s so hard for me to stick with a workout routine! Thank you so much Marina! You make learning SO fun!! You’re an amazing teacher! 🙏🏻♥️☮️
This is excellent information. I have an interception on the 1/7 axis. My Part of Fortune in Aquarius in the 1st along with my Venus AND vertex in Leo in the 7th. I have always had issues with how I express myself and my love style toward others. Now that I am consciously aware of this, I am working toward unlocking these core parts of my personality and finally attracting the true love of my life!
(Jaw drop) OMG… lol It was my intercepted houses that gave me fits trying to interpret my chart using Placidus and why I switched away from it, only on occasion to refer back to that chart. While I knew what an interception was, I had much trouble with interpretation. Additionally Placidus was the only system to put my Saturn in the 9th. All others had 8th. I might revisit that. Looking at Placidus now, deciding to work with Saturn was a good choice either way. And I see a potential explanations for questions I have had. 🙂 This is amazing. Always something new to learn. Oh, intercepts, Neptune in Scorpio in 5th, kind of explains why I gave up drawing at an early age and my former marriage produced no children. And Mercury and Venus conjunct in Taurus in 11th. Hm. While I’m comfortable in groups, if given a choice…:) Lastly, with Mercury it impacts my Gem Sun and the three planets I have in Virgo. rolleyes…LOL First step in resolution is to acknowledge the “problem” which is actually an opportunity. Thank you! wow….:)
Very interesting article Marina! For learning purposes I have to say I don’t relate with what you said. I myself have 1st and 7th houses intercepted. With moon in 1st house in aqua and venus in 7th house in leo, both intercepted. My aquarius moon is probably the most noticeble personality trait I have. Ever since I was a child, I have always been different than everybody, very against the status quo and old traditions, and also I always had a very strong relationship with my mother. So it has always been quite easy and natural for me to express both the moon and the aquarius energy. The same goes for my venus in leo. From the way I dress to how I behave in relationships, I am quite leo… So I don’t know if I’m the exception to the rule, but I almost forget I have intercepted houses. I honestly have no problem with them. The only thing is that when I see transit articles, I always have to see the next ascendant sign, because the houses don’t match 🙂
This was illuminating, thank you. I have Sun & Jupiter conjunct, plus Moon locked in Leo in the 2nd house. All my life so far I have had no control of personal income no matter how hard I try (& I’ve tried for YEARS). I’ve learned that I simply have to patiently wait for whatever I’m given. It could be to do with Saturn trine this configuration conjunct midheaven, retrograde at critical 12° of Aries 😕. Also, with Sun locked in Leo, I am told I do not represent everyone’s idea of what a Leo is (I’m reserved, quiet, humble, in the background etc). You mention about being older should provide opportunities to unlock things. I’d like to know about that unlocking process.
Thanks Marina. I often use Placidus myself and often it makes enough sense, but sometimes…It just makes more sense to go Equal or Whole Signs Houses. What are your thoughts on whole countries and seasons that produce these interceptions? I’m genuinely curious…as it’s quite a quandary for me. Though I will say that I’ve found people who have natal interceptions themselves that when acknowledged by myself feel relieved that someone gets it and them.
Thank you so much, Marina – for your very insightful teaching and your generosity in doing so. I have Virgo and Pisces intercepted in my ninth and third houses with the south node, the sun, saturn, mercury and venus in Virgo – a lot of bad fairies at the christening! I have struggled a lot in my life and no one can understand why! What is the significance of having your lunar nodes intercepted?
great article Marina! Thank You again! I would like to share something: my boyfriend asc-desc axis is in the same signs as my birth chart interception. Then, my asc-desc signs are his intercepted signs axis in his birth chart. Does this have any impact or meaning? or it is just a coincidence? and one question more: if the house cusp is in one sign, but the next sign starts somewhere in the house (so the house ends in this second sign – no interception), does the house have 2 rulers, like in the example with interception or not?
I have Gemini-Sagittarius axis intercepted in 9th-3rd. I still haven’t gotten a degree and I am 25 and I have no idea what to do with my life. I also have chronic health conditions and very few friends and not such a great relationships with my parents. My Jupiter in Sag is also intercepted. My current progressive chart sees Aquarius-Leo intercepted in 4th-10th
♓ Asc w ♈ fully in 1st (♈ S Node/Ketu @ 19:55 and 🌙 @ 28°) Mars in 2nd ♉ Jupiter 8th ♏ 21° Neptune 8th ♏ 4° 🌞/Saturn exact conj @ 28° GC ♐ 10th MC 20° … I need a Classroom. I’m Older, but I still value my life experiences. I’m interested in my 2nd, 8th, and 11th. My 9th and 10th are Sagittarius land – ♐ It’s the ranch up there in 9/10 and all spread around – But Saturn just had to … My Sun still Shines all over my chart ❤🌞❤ Yes 2 marriages But – when I say I’m done, I’m 2001 to present Single … It’s way easier! It took a long time to develop self-love and I’m still applying Conscious Thought on the subject. If you ever have questions or need “a unique study chart” (I had a Solar E direct on Ketu followed by Pluto Transiting my Sagittarius and tragic situations plus…Rahu Dasha!!!) But I’m still here and am trying 😉
Very interesting but I might have to watch it a few more times to understand. I almost felt like you were talking about my chart Marina. I have AC – 12 ° Taurus. Mercury R 13° Taurus, sun 18° Taurus, south node 19° Taurus, Ceres 24 ° Taurus. Venus 25° Taurus. So I usually think of my first house as 12° Taurus- 12° Gemini? Is this correct? And the first 12° of Taurus as my 12th house? Thank you Marina
I have interception of the 2nd and 8th houses (Aquarius and Leo)……involves my nodes R and Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus….also in those houses but not intercepted are Pluto, Mars, Mercury and Chiron…..CAN YOU TELL WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE NODES IN RETROGRADE…? Pisces Sun with Venus (Ares) in the 3rd
I have 3° Pisces Sun and 12° Pisces Mars intercepted in the 1H and I identified when you said that I’ve always felt stuck or that my life doesn’t depend on my choices because there are always other circumstances getting in the way. I’ll look further into intercepted houses because my sun is also conjunct my 27° Aqua Ascendant. Aqua Mercury and Venus are also there at 22° and 23°, respectively but I don’t know if they would be considered a conjunct my Sun.
Thank you for this article ☺️❤️ I have my ascendant in aqua and have intercepted pisces, Aries and a little bit og Taurus in 1 house ❤️I totally resonate about what you said about the 1 and 7 house.. My 7 house is Leo and intercepted Virgo, libra and a bit of scorpio and the planets sun, Venus, mercury and pluto.. ❤️ make so much sense about relationships
I have an intercepted 0°Taurus Moon in the 11th house. It squares my Mercury in Aquarius in the 8th. Not sure if I WANT to access it’s energies. Instability of the moon messing with my mind ? I cling to the fact my Saturn in Libra is tightly trined that Mercury. I’m always 2nd guessing myself and wondering if I’m really fully understanding things. It’s stupid, cause it creates an instant mental block where there shouldn’t be any.
