Weird story…when my Mother passed away, we visited the morgue / funeral home and the embalming fluid they used smelled like pine sol. All seven of us children were so grief stricken with our father while we were finalizing arrangements. When we were told what the intense pine smell was…we all made eye contact and instantly went from crying to laughing uncontrollably. My mother was so sensitive to smells and hated pine. We all knew she would’ve said some intensely strong words about them using anything “pine” around her. I am always drawn back to that moment of laughter at the funeral home when I smell pine now. I started buying PineSol by the gallon during the early days of Covid. There was no bleach or Lysol to be found so I had to settle for PineSol. Now I love it and use it daily. One note….I discovered too late that the scented versions of PineSol do not disinfect. You have to stick to original PineSol to kill those virus germs. Never thought about using it in the laundry thought. Good idea.
The laundry hack is an old one. When I was a little girl, we had an elderly relative who stayed with us and who was incontinent. Needless to say, laundry was done every other day. My Mama used Pine Sol to clean the laundry and it always smelled so fresh and came out spotless. I never forgot that trick.
My daughter (oldest of 4 kids) wet her bed weekly (sometimes more times) for a few years. Pine Sol was the only product that really removed the odor and any stains from anything. Pine Sol is amazing! I use it with vinegar as a pre-wash in the laundry for many years. Clothes come out sooooo fresh. Detergents do not kill bacteria. I’ve been using Pine Sol for more years than I care to mention. I’ve always used it in the bathroom to clean the toilet and shower, but disinfecting the brush is new to me and an idea I will definitely try. I have also used it in the laundry and to clean the kitchen sink. I’ve actually poured it down the disposal to get a nice, clean smell. I really love this product. Oh, and before I forget, I’ve used Fabuloso, too. It works well but really don’t care for the smell. 😣😣
Kathryn… I have a product recommendation. I don’t like to use many different products, and I think many are not needed, but this one has won me! Odoban. It cleans, disinfects, and you can use it everywhere! Floors, laundry, carpets, upholstery, and even to freshen the air. It does not mask, it kills the source of odor. I have three rescue dogs who were abused, and I cannot get them house trained. A little band is the only thing I have used to actually get the pee smell out. It comes in a spray bottle, but it also comes in a gallon at some stores and online. I buy the gallon because it’s a better deal at $9.99. it’s concentrated, so you can make 32 gallons

I’ve had a carpet cleaning business for decades and can attest that there was even an entire ad-campaign and product line promoting pine-oil based products for that use. I’ve seen amazing spot-cleaning results, using Pine-Sol undiluted on very old carpet-stains and was always careful to extract/rise away the residue as it does create lots of foam. Have seen amazing results and always wondered why this has never gotten much publicity, while all the damaging spray-foam products like Resolve/Woolite etc. DID, despite their stain-setting, stain-attracting, and stain re-appearing issues!
I absolutely love Pine-Sol. I have been using it for years and years. And they also sell lemon-scented Pine-Sol which is even better. In the spring I use it on my patio chairs, to clean the mildew off of the house, it whitens and brightens. It is really, really great. And less expensive than a lot of many name brand cleaners.
Okay girlfriend, When I saw the thumbnail for this clip I jumped on it like a chicken on a bug. Been doing all three of these for so long! And even better: We use a dilute solution to periodically washdown kitchen walls and cabinets to remove kitchen grease build up. We have hardwood floors and my standard way to wash them is fill my mop bucket with hot tap water, a splash of Pine Sol and I prefer the old fashioned rag mop. Oh, gee, then there’s when my husband is done vacuuming inside our cars, and he uses a Pine Sol diluted with water to wipe down surfaces that get sticky–like when you picked up take-out and noshed on it while driving….Come on, you know you do it! One tip I can recommend is to read the ingredients content on the bottle. Pine Sol’s active ingredient is pine oil. The % has dropped way down. So I look for knock off brands at the dollar stores to find a cheaper version that has a higher pine oil content. Keep up the good work!
You changed my laundry life with this hack! Regular laundry comes out fresh and brighter. My old linens and quilts that have had some spots for years, I have done this on the spots washed them and those old old stains on vintage linens came out. I have done it to table lines and quilts and it worked for every stain. I did brush in Pinesol longer than you did on my stains but TY so much.

I love my Pine Sol! I’ve used it over thirty years! It’s great for your towels too! If you ever have the towel thrown into the hamper damp, it’s a little mildew smell or sports towels. Sometimes they seem not to get clean and refreshed. Pour it in with them! It kills mold and makes them nice and fluffy!

I’ve been using Pinesol in my laundry 🧺 for years on animal urine odor, moldy and certain bacterial skin infections on clothes, and towels. (beach and pool season is upon us, great for those towels and clothes that don’t get into the washer right way 😉) My Dr told me to use it in my laundry when my ex was sick. Love it.. I have been using pine sol for my whites for 20 years now. I am surprised people are barely figuring it out. Does a way better job then bleach or any other product. It is amazing to wash your whites shoes as well including white canvas vans. Although baking powder and hydrogen peroxide are my go to for cleaning my vans.
I LOVE pine sol ! I use it for laundry, floors, tile, all around cleaning but it’s BEST use is in a carpet shampooer! Dilute it a bit and depending upon how dirty your carpets are this is AMAZING! I’ve got 2 huge dogs and live on the water so lots of muddy paw prints I’ve also used a tiny bit while washing/cleaning my truck and it’s great 👍
I keep ”rag rugs” under my nice rubber mats in my car as an extra layer of protection for my carpet. I also use them and other less expensive rugs on my wrap around deck for rockers and chairs/tables with ”scrachie’ legs. Cats and dogs love em, so do little critters from the woods. I wash those rugs frequently with Pine Sol, and PineAllen. Love how fresh it makes the car smell. I mop our deck in them also when the wet dog smell is all over it after a muddy rain.

I just started using PineSol outdoors too! It works well to repel FLYS! 🪰🪰🪰I spray it on the ground, around our potted plants. We have some areas with artificial grass/Astroturf and PineSol works well to sorta wash it after we pick up our dog’s 💩. Keeps our backyard smelling good and makes sure “💩debris” is disinfected effectively. Just spray it on and rinse with the hose. 💯

Great advise. Love idea of cleaning toilets and it leaving it smelling nice. On another note, I have used Lestoil for years to get out really stubborn stains. Only issue with it is that it does not have a pleasant smell. But it’s worth it when nothing else works. I owned a bridal shop for years in the late 80’s and sometimes a customer would refuse our help to get in & out of wedding gowns. Every time I’d end up with shoe scuff marks on the hems and trains, which are near impossible to get out. I started using Lestoil full-strength on a white facecloth and it did the job. Now I always have it on hand for very stubborn stains. You do have to do extra rinse to remove residue small but it’s well worth it to save a garment. You may have to pour a bit on a stain & let it sit for several hours. I’ll subscribe! Excellent vid.
I am absolutely going to buy a super large 1 gallon of Pine-Sol this week. I always use a name brand laundry detergent but my clothing always smell funny. I also have used name brand laundry detergent with lavender scent which is my favorite but the smell never lasts long. Absolutely need to try this out. I use Pine-Sol to clean almost everything in my house but never thought of using it in my laundry. I am just hoping it does not cause a rash or a irritation on our skills. Because my daughter is quite sensitive . I am planning to use this when I do hand-washing of my clothing. I would not put this in my machine just in case. As far as “Pine Sol” goes, there are literally many different scents made by the brand Pine Sol so you do not have to get the pine smell. I’m sorry, the pine just doesn’t smell appealing to me, especially if adding to my laundry! Lol! I usually purchase the Lavender scented Pine Sol and it’s not too shabby! I recently got a surrender dog who had bladder stones & when I got her she got an UTI which has come back, so she pees a lot and has wet her sleeping spot of towels, blankets and her bed, so I’ve gone through a lot of towels and blankets. As a kid I absolutely loved the smell of lysol. I would help my great grandmother clean up and she would buy extra lysol for me. I use ammonia in my laundry. I am allergic to any smells so I use ammonia in my laundry along with unscented laundry soap. It takes away musky smell in towels and leaves clothes with no smell but clean smelling. I use ammonia on color clothes, whites and towels. Only thing is you do not use it with bleach. We no longer have bleach in my home.

Anyway, ever since I have had terrible skin sensitivities that I have never had, weird breakouts, and developed sensitivities to almost all of their main ingredients. Not other ingredients, those in the floor cleaning brands. Now I wish I hadn’t been so careless at that young age. I sincerely DO NOT recommend using any form of mop liquid or Pinesol for anything that will be touching your skin…it has terrible long-term consequences. Don’t learn the hard way like I did!
i used to love the smell of that stuff. Unfortunately like all the rest of the brand name cleaners they sell in every store, it is highlly TOXIC!!!! My sis had breast cancer & the oncologist handed her a long list of household cleaners that are highly toxic with multiple cancer causing ingredients. My mouth fell open, I was one who felt that my home wasn’t clean unless it reaked of bleach. That list made me angry- WHY do they even sell us that crap? There are plenty of great household cleaners that are natural/non-toxic but nobody can make money off of those. THAT is the problem. The FDA & the Gov’t DO NOT CARE about us & our health – they care about making & keeping us SICK so they can get rich off us; eventually, most people will develop some sort of cancer & CHA-CHING!!! America is the sickest nation in the world. With all our modern conveniences & medicine, ask yourself why would that be (imop that’s no accident). There is a natural product made by Dr.Bronner (makers of Castile soap) called SAL-SUDS, it’s PINE BASED concentrate that is multi- purpose & NON toxic!! Do you think that homes were just never so clean until these toxic chemicals were created (so someone can get rich)? Abosolutely NOT TRUE- Borax is fantastic stuff, Baking Soda, White vinegar. Any basic mild dishsoap used in tiny amounts combined with hot water & white vinegar makes a great floor cleaner.The vinegar smell dissipates really fast, I use about 1cup in a gallon bucket of mop water so it’s pretty diluted.
I wonder if the Pinesol laundry trick will work on my husband’s stinky laundry. I’ve tried so many things – baking soda, Oxyclean, special stink remover tabs. I did put vinegar in for fabric softener today so I’ll see when that load is dry if that had any effect. But I’ll try Pinesol next week since I’ve got plenty.
My Mom always used Pine Sol for cleaning when I was growing up. Now I use it too, I love the smell. I have also found a new way to use Pine Sol in my kitchen garbage can. I take a pant line soaked in Pine Sol and stick it to my kitchen garbage can before I insert the plastic garbage bag. It keeps the offending odours at bay, especially in the summer where the summer heat does make your garbage stink to high heaven.
I’ve smelled mildewy hotel towels and called up for replacements before. ICK! Definitely going to try PineSol (not the fake sols) in my next load of laundry and bath since I already use it on my floors. It’s worth the extra few bucks for the clean, healthy smell of PineSol vs the fakes. I use Spray and Wash in a spray bottle for coffee stains on my shirts, but will try PineSol next. I’ve never used PineSol in laundry, but I will try on musty stuff. I use Persil, Lysol Laundry Sanitizer & Downy in the washer. Then Downy dryer sheets. I don’t have static cling, my grandsons love it when I wash their clothes. I will send them home with their stuffed animals and clean clothes. They say it smells like Nana’s house! 🤭😁 I don’t use Downy dryer sheets with towels though it makes it where they don’t absorb water as much. Thanks so much for the tip! I use apple cider vinegar (not white vinegar) in my washing (with soap) and it freshens it right up and no vinegar smells when dry, I have never tried pine sol in the laundry but I might on the cat bed/blankets. Not the biggest fan of the pine scent myself. Will definitely try it on stains and spills.
I saw this article a year ago, and I’ve been using the tips since then. I suppose “the algorithm” decided to bring it back around, so I thought I might let y’all know…Pine-Sol works! Well, of course, it works, LOL! 💲I love that one product can be used in so many ways in my home, allowing me to consolidate my cleaning products and save money. My favorite ways to use it are to add to 🧺my laundry or 🚽in the bathroom. For example, I have a top loader, so sometimes I will soak my towels with regular detergent and Pine-Sol in the machine for a couple hours before finishing the wash to refresh them. Use white vinegar instead of fabric softener, and your towels will be amazing! In the bathroom, I prefer to keep Pine-sol full strength in a small spray bottle. It really is great to use in so many ways in your home! 💖
Quick tip about the Pineallen that I wish I knew before I bought it. It’s not a disinfectant. It doesn’t actually kill the germs like Pinesol does. That’s why the label doesn’t say anywhere that it kills 99.99% of germs. And I noticed that the formulas for cleaning call for more product than Pinesol.
Pinesol was bought by Clorox decades ago. They decided to cut costs and eliminate the pine oil from their product (pinesol is named based on the pine SOLVENT contained in pine oil from old pine stumps). They even say in their marketing that it is a pine scented product and they are using glycolic acid as the solvent (which has its own strengths). Pinalen, on the other hand, actually contains pine oil as its solvent. And no recall that I have ever heard of on Pinalen. I recommend trying both of them and seeing which works best for your needs.
Just tried Pine Sol in the laundry. My tip: try to buy the same scent Pine Sol as the laundry detergent used. For example, lemon scent Pine Sol & lemon scent Sunlight. Your clothes may smell cleaner, but my clothes did not look cleaner. I added a half a cup of pine sol to the laundry, perhaps next time I’ll pour it the stain & see if that makes a difference
We have used Pinesol diluted In a container with s dish soap top to add to toilet after or before toilet use…, The toilet stays clean and the bathroom smells great and clean. But the very BEST is cleaning the tile, stone, or marble floors in the bathroom and kitchen with diluted Pinesol and water…then rinse. Not only do the floors sparkle, but the rooms smell soooooo clean and fresh!
Grandma here. I learned from my Mom, a nurse, to use Pineaol in the diaper pail (back when we used cloth diapers), Never hurt my sensitive skin, red-headed children. (rinse diapers out in clean toilet, wring out, drop in lidded pail with Pinesol added, let soak. Rinse of rubber gloves & place on lid of pail. Every morning dump pail into washer, spin out, & wash as you prefer.) No sour/stinky smell & we live in the deep south,.)
