The Skeksis, also known as Mystics, are gentle creatures that represent the ‘light’ half of the Skeksis. When combined, they form the names of the urRu and Skeksis, which were the original race that arrived on Thra and were later split into two new species by the light of the Triple Sun and the Crystal. In The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the Skeksis are allies in the series, but in the original movie, they were terrifying.

After the experiment ended in disaster, the urRu were split into two new species: the cruel Skeksis and the gentle Mystics. I imagine the Mystics would have been similarly younger looking shortly after the great division – more upright, slimmer and smoother skin. Also just as the Skeksis grew more impatient and capricious as they aged, I imagine the opposite happened with the uRu – as they aged they grew slower and more inflexible.
Who remembers that scene when skekLach claimed that he used to be young and beautiful? He was talking with Brea in the carriage. I think the Scroll Keeper denied skekLach for ever being considered beautiful. My theory is that the power of the dark crystal must have tampered with the lack of memories of their youth for some trine ago for certain Skeksies. Mama Aughra obviously was correct. Her statement must be true.
I’d love to see a miniseries or a short that takes place in the first century of the Skeksis era, a lot of places you could take it and lots of ideas that could be fleshed out. I imagine the Skeksis civilizing the backwater Gelflings, with good intentions at first but increasingly obsessed with the adulation and their self satisfaction and ever more erratic and vicious when something doesn’t go their way and the Gelflings express a little too much independence. I imagine SkekTek and Aughra becoming much more central characters in the story culminating in a dramatic breakup and SkekSil sewing dissent and suspicion among the Gelfling clans leading to conflicts and battles.
