What Was The Hebrew Term For Witchcraft Originally?

The Hebrew word “kashaph” or “sorcery” has evolved over time, with the original Hebrew verb “Le-Nachesh” meaning “to make a witchcraft” changing its meaning. In modern Hebrew, the term “keshef” is derived from the Hebrew word “kashaf”, which means to practice magic or enchant. The concept of witchcraft in Hebrew is not solely associated with dark or evil forces, but rather with practitioners of magical or sorcerous arts.

The Hebrew word used in Exodus, translated as “witch”, was mekhashepha, which actually meant “witch”, as in a practitioner of magical or sorcerous arts, not a poisoner who brewed potions. In the Old Testament, the word for an evil person who engaged in sorcery or witchcraft is “Maleficius”. These practices were varied and are denoted by several different Hebrew words, including the Ob and the Yidde’oni.

The etymology of mekhashef can be traced back to the Hebrew root כשף (kashaf), which means “to practice witchcraft” or “to use sorcery”. There was a wide scope for the production of fantastic effects, short of death, by such means.

The term “black magic” or witchery is often used to describe kashaph or sorcery, but the word kashaph is not well defined in the Hebrew Bible. Various forms of witchcraft and divination are mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, which are expressly forbidden. Perkins aims to define a Witch by opening the nature of Witchcraft by proving its main point.

What is the origin of the word witchcraft?

The term witchcraft, originating in the Early Middle Ages, refers to individuals who use supernatural or occult powers to harm others, often referred to as maleficium. Similar concepts were found in other European countries, including sorcellerie, Hexerei, stregoneria, and brujería. As Europeans expanded globally, they encountered communities who believed in individuals who harmed others through occult means, often with their own names. The English words witchcraft and witch are now the best known terms for this phenomenon internationally, largely due to British colonialism and American cultural influence.

Witchcraft primarily involves harming others, with the nature of this harm varying, from making someone ill or even killing them to inducing crop failure, poor weather, infertility, impotence, or livestock death. While there is significant cultural and historical variation in perceptions of harmful witchcraft, the recurring nature of these beliefs suggests an origin in human psychology, possibly a shared desire to find a reason for misfortune.

Who was the first witchcraft in the Bible?

The Witch of Endor is a female sorcerer in the Hebrew Bible who was visited by Saul, the first king of Israel. Saul had banished all sorcerers and conjurers from his kingdom, but was concerned about the outcome of Israel’s battle against the Philistines. He disguised himself and asked her to conjure up the spirit of the prophet Samuel to tell his fortunes. The woman, who reminded him of the law against practicing her art, assured her that she would be protected.

The spirit informed Saul that he and his three sons would die in battle the next day and that the Israelites would fall to the Philistines. The story of the Witch of Endor has inspired further embellishment of her practices, with Chaucer referring to her as a “pithonesse” and Guillaume de Salluste suggesting she used a “flambeau” made from her son’s fat in her necromantic art.

What is the Aramaic word for witch?

The word mekhashepha, translated as “witch” in the Ben Yehuda Hebrew Dictionary, is believed to be the father of modern Hebrew and established the Academy of the Hebrew language. Merrill F. Unger, a Biblical scholar, also interpreted mekhashepha as “witch”, specifically one who practices magic using occult formulas, incantations, and mystic mutterings. The term was also used in a celebration of the witches’ sabbath in Waldkirch, Germany.

What is the original name for a witch?

The term “witch” has its etymological roots in the Old English words “wicca” (male) and “wicce” (female), which are derived from a Proto-Indo-European root *weyk-, meaning “choose” or “separate.” It is probable that these roots originated from early Germanic practices of cleromancy, as documented by Tacitus.

Who is the goddess Pharmakeia?

Kirke, a goddess associated with sorcery, demonstrated expertise in the domains of transmutation, illusion, and necromancy. She inhabited the fabled isle of Aiaia, residing alongside her nymph associates. Odysseus transformed his men into beasts, but Hermes facilitated the cessation of the spell. The etymology of Kirke’s name is derived from the Greek verb “kirkoô,” which signifies “to secure with rings” or “hoop around.” This term alludes to the binding power of magic.

What is the oldest word for witch?

The earliest documented reference to the term “witch” is the Old English word “wicca,” which translates to “a man who engages in witchcraft.” This term first appeared in the Laws of Alfric, a legal text from the year 890. The feminine form of “witch” first appeared in 1000.

What is the origin of the word Pharmakeia?

What is the old name for a witch?

The term “witch” has its roots in European folklore and superstition, with the Old English word “wiċċe” meaning “Wizard”. Traditionally associated with magic, witch-hunts target those accused of witchcraft. In the modern era, the term has taken on different meanings, including an alluring woman capable of bewitching others. In neopagan religions like Wicca, the term has been adopted as the female term for an adherent. The modern spelling witch with the medial ‘t’ first appears in the 16th century.

Old English had both masculine and feminine forms of the word, but the masculine meaning became less common in Standard English. The word’s origins are Germanic, rooted in the Old English verb “wiccan” and Middle Low German “wicken”.

Is witchcraft in the Bible?

The Hebrew Bible, specifically the Tanakh or Old Testament, contains laws prohibiting various forms of witchcraft and divination. These laws can be found in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy. Exodus 22:18 prohibits tolerating a sorceress, Leviticus 19:26 prohibits eating anything with its blood, and Leviticus 20:27 condemns a person or woman with a ghost or familiar spirit to death. Deuteronomy 18:10-11 prohibits anyone from consigning a son or daughter to the fire, being an augur, soothsayer, diviner, sorcerer, spell-caster, or one who consults ghosts or familiar spirits. These laws emphasize the prohibition of such practices and the consequences of such practices.

What is the old Latin word for witch?

What is the old Latin word for witch?

The Latin language is rich in terms describing witches, with various titles such as cantatrix, praecantrix, sacerdos, vates, maga, venefica, malefica, lamia, lupula, strix, or striga. This diversity suggests that Latin made clear linguistic distinctions between various witch types. However, this expectation of semantic and morphological concordance remains unfulfilled. This paper proposes to demonstrate the inaccuracy of the Latin vocabulary in articulating functional differences between various witches and assert the essential uniformity of witch characters.

The modern term “witch” conveys only a rough sense of a woman’s possession of supernatural abilities and is an imprecise label for determining a character’s nature, disposition, or motivation. This polyvalence of the term “witch” is also found in other languages, such as Italian strega, Spanish maga/bruja, French magicienne/sorcière, and German Hexe.

The term “witch” refers to a female character with various powers, such as the ability to effect reversals of natural phenomena and changes in interpersonal relationships, knowledge and/or use of materia magica, efficacious language, or gestures (the evil eye). These women are characters whom multiple scholars have repeatedly and consistently labelled as witches, such as Circe, Medea, Deianira, Simaetha, Canidia, Dipsas, Acanthis, Meroe, Pamphile, Petronius’ strigae, Martina, and Erictho.

The Latin vocabulary is an invaluable catalogue of the Latin witch vocabulary, but it is necessary to use the word “witch” repeatedly to avoid awkward periphrases. The assembled material is an invaluable catalog of the Latin witch vocabulary, providing a comprehensive understanding of the various witches and their roles in ancient societies.

  • If I call myself a witch my grandmother has a fit if I say I’m a Kabbalist she’s okay with it (I’m Jewish) and I had a young new age rabbi talk about how there was indeed magic in the Jewish people…he made it clear that it’s not through witch craft but harnessing what God has put on earth…more natural. I find all this fascinating.

  • Just finished reading the Torah and I was surprised at how wide of the mark popular representation is to the actual content and spirit of the work. It ranges from early science, philosophy, law and the history of the Israelites to census records and instructions for the priestly caste like art and sculpture. In other words, it is so obviously the product of many hands over the course of centuries that a single broad interpretation seems an opportunistic generalisation. The theme of “no gods before me” does however run through everything, resistance to assimilation after Egypt being a kind of prime directive. It makes our ability to understand underground arcane Jewish practices like drawing blood from a stone it seems

  • I was also intrigued that the witch on En Dor was such a hospitable woman and not painted a villain like someone such as baalam In that way she reminded of Circe in the sense of having powerful knowledge and could be dangerous and though in HB there’s no confrontation such as in the Oddessey I was intrigued how hospitable both Circe and the witch of en dor were

  • First time seeing this article. Great stuff. Wanted to add – 12:53 the word נחש in that case is translated as the word Guess (Nah-esh) which gives us the answer : they weren’t allowed to “assume” or determine through things that happen to them or around them whether it is worthwhile or not to do things, when there is no rational connection between the sign and the fact, an example for that is when you go outside and see a black cat and assume/guess (לנחש) your day will go bad.

  • FINALLY. i’m so glad i found your website. have been studying this on my own and i have some questions as well. when i read Lv 20:27, the word for witch is “H178 –> אוֹב ʼôwb, obe; from the same as H1 (apparently through the idea of prattling a father’s name); properly, a mumble, i.e. a water-skin (from its hollow sound); hence a necromancer (ventriloquist, as from a jar):—bottle, familiar spirit.” So it seems to me, one who has zero knowledge of ancient (or modern!) jewish customs etc, that a witch was someone who had a jar with a familiar spirit that mumbled. just going linguistically here. like maybe a witch had a special jar with a “spirit” trapped inside that talked? how curious. this ~looking at clouds~ thing makes me think of banning meteorology! so you can`t look at the clouds to see if it will be cold? hmmm. what is always condemned is necromancy, talking to the ~dead~, since the Bible clearly states in lots of places that death (the 1st death) is like a sleep and you have no knowledge and no way of communicating. also, what about that other infamous verse about tattooing and cutting your hair for a dead person? seems like the connection is doing something in favor of a dead person (who you can’t do anything for anymore). other words for magic people used in the OT were H3049 (wizard, one who conjures ghosts), H2266, H2267, H328 (all conjurers)/ H7592 (consulter)/ H1875, H4191 (necromancer)/ H3784 (whispering witch). AND THEN in the New Testament, Galatians 5:20, magic is again condemned, but the Greek word used is pharmakeia, which is where we get pharmacy etc.

  • The algorithm dropped me here and the content doesn’t disappoint. One of the things that I learned so far is that Magic or Esoterism isn’t necessarily illogical but seems to be a human need to develop semi rigorous methods to wrench agency for humans from all powerful god(s) 😉 I might be wrong with this first impression so I wil watch some more!

  • Thanks Dr Sledge for another fascinating article lecture! I was pleasantly surprised you discussed the witch of En Dor. In my history of interpretation class, we discussed several texts among the church fathers on “the Belly Myther at En Dor,” beginning with Origen, that attempt to interpret this text. It’s very interesting, though I don’t know if it’s directly beneficial for your research. The question I had while reading these texts is why did 1 Sam 28 garner so much attention among the church fathers. I think the answer I would give is because the text was so troubling to Christians reading their Bible (the LXX) in that they were catechized to rid themselves of all magic and be baptized unto Christ, but here, smack dab in the middle of their Bible, is this text that seems to condone those magical and occultic practices.

  • I loved this article. One thing that kinda bugged me is how Endor is combined into one word even though it really should be “En” or “Ein” Dor. Its like a town in Israel Ein Gedi. Its not Engedi, but two separate words meaning “Spring of Gedi” or the “Spring of the Goat”. Kind of pedantic but I think its an important distinction since there are a decent amount of place names with “En” in the beginning. Also, any recs for a good academic study bible of both the Torah and the New Testament?

  • The serpent or nakash represents the enemy who came from the sky. It was common knowledge back then that the plumed serpent & the fallen ones of Genesis 6 (whom taught their human wives this type of magick along with melting metals for war etc) The Rapha or Raphaim aka the dead are the children of fallen angels that walked the earth as their fathers were the fallen ones, they were also Demi gods

  • Pagans would use a “speaking rune” and place it under the tongue of a corpse so that it may be able to speak. The corpse was unable to speak during a necromancy ritual if it did not have a speaking rune. Arith Harger has a youtube website and he was speaking of this. He goes into detail on necromancy in northern pagan beliefs

  • Holy! LOL…I thought of Endor myself from Empire Strikes Back, I think, just turned 49 Dec. 28th 2023…loved those movies as a kid, Ewak’s and the Redwoods, flying cycles, that I used to dream about flying then turned to any stick, and later I would have to jump off the roof the catch the air or whatever, everything had to be just right to fly, later in adult life I’ve been able to soar like an eagle but not much flying in the last 20 years or so….I used to love it so much…I loved flying in planes too, especially take off and landing’s…so fun as a kid…

  • Also about Tel Arad (yes, it’s one of THOSE days xD): Herzog, the archeologist who finalized and organized all the finds and reports from all excavations at the site has come to the conclusion that the temple was sealed somewhere during the 7th century BCE. Based on the nature of the sealing, as well as the fact that nothing was broken or disrespected like it was at a gate temple at Lachish, he came to the conclusion that it was done possibly by the soldiers stationed at the fort. Based on the margine of error in the dating, he also concludes it was possibly sealed during the first half of the 7th century, placing it during the time of Hesekhia (how do you spell חזקיהו in englisg I have no idea). Other archeologists (whom I forgot the name of but that notion is aggreed in both Tel Aviv and HUJI) have also came to the agreement that josiah most likely hasnt done any major religious reforms, and just like the kings of the northern Levant he was affiliating himself with the acts of his grandfather Hasi (yeah I’ll name hesekiah hasi from now on xD)

  • Excellent! Dr. Sledge, do you have any plans on doing a article on the Nehushtan of Numbers 23? It’s one of my favorite stories from the Hebrew Bible (and from a book that few people look at these days, alas!), and as it is directly cited by at least one Christian Gospel writer, and has a whole further relevance for various Gnostic interpreters and for some modern practitioners, it might make an intriguing discussion topic!

  • I’ve been saying for decades that the Bible’s apparent occult terms were never defined and nobody seemed to really know what they mean. Nobody listened to me and I got into some bitter arguments but nobody came up with good counter arguments. Christians just assume that the Bible condemns everything we, today, think is “occult” and insist this is the case, with no evidence.

  • The Witch of Endor summoning an Eloheim makes me curios as that sounds similar to a Shikigami, or a ritual god summoned by Onmyojo diviners in japan. They were a familiar of sorts created from the ritual and given life from the summoners magical power, but were dangerous and could kil their master. But the conception of a Kami is very different to western gods so I’m not sure on it. It’s possible this was written when YWHW was replacing El Eloheim and so Eloheim was being in a way demonized as a servant of sorcerers and necromancers.

  • Also about the act of Linkov (לנקוב): From what I could find in the archeological record of the levant, during the middle and late bronze age (ca 2100-1200 BCE) there was a practice of stabbing clay bricks of figurines which had a name or a collection of names on them. Sometimes these clay clums had nothing scribled on them. The names listed on these artifacts are of locations or individuals, but as far as I could tell there were no gods or divine powers mentioned, of any kind. So perphaps this ban is more so a specification on a practice that was remembered from the past, and less of a ban on a practice that was done by others. In other words, it’s possible the original practice was banned against all gods of the Canaabite pantheon, and the writer of the text just specified the biblical god since the rest were irrelevant

  • I was taught a meditation by a Hebrew rabbi that is like magic to me. Exhale all your breath hold for 10 seconds inhale slowly hold your breath for ten seconds. Do this three times. Then exhale all your breath hold for 5. Inhale slowly hold your breath hold for 5 seconds. Put your palm on the center of your chest and while exhaling focus on the center of your chest. Then bring up a memory that is either of joy love compassion or holiness and try to refeel the feelings. Lose the image and go with the feelings. You can then ask a question of your higher self. The part of you that is closest to God. Wait for some kind of response. It works. If you try it enjoy it

  • I have heard that a m’khasheifah is supposed to mean specifically a type of a woman mage, that does evil spells like you know, curses to put on cheaters for the wife’s or evil eyes. And honestly these specific types of women exist to this day because female nature gives you a lot more opportunity to use shamanic powers + women prefer to stay away from straight confrontations and physical violence. So that makes witches mostly female. I’m not saying that there was no mysoginy, but bible also has verses specifically for males who use demons for magic so I can accept this.

  • At one point you claim: “if it wasn’t happening, it wouldn’t be prohibited”. This makes perfect sense. So, why then, does the prohibition of “Fire baptism” get a pass? Essentially- what is it about this case that makes you think they were prohibiting something that you believe wasn’t happening so much at the time?

  • I know this article is old and you only very briefly mentioned the subject, but have you read the book Child Sacrifice in Ancient Israel by Dewrell? He argues that the “mlk” rituals aren’t dedicated to a god Moloch, were adopted during the reign of Ahaz from their Phoenician neighbors, and were directed towards Yahweh. I’m not entirely sold on all of his arguments, but there are Punic stele mentioning a rite of the same name where they burn children with to some sort of vow being made. And if it existed in the colonies, I don’t think it’s much a stretch to say the practice existed in Phoenicia proper. Whether the sacrifices being in Yahwism is a product of syncretism or comes from a common ancestor with the Phoenicians, I don’t lean too far either way, but it does seem likely to me that the recipient was Yahweh himself and not a foreign god

  • thank you very much ..excellent pace and style…Superior presentation …not a single ah or ummm or ya know…you set the standard…and not crazy like ancient aliens…I have yet and please don’t refer all this to aliens….you Dr…or Prof..or Sage. are purely academic ..you present the information without and agenda pronounced….

  • The thought that these prohibitions are so poorly understood in the historical texts, then poorly translated, and rigorously & brutally applied to members of later cultures is pretty horrifying tbh. Quite above and beyond the awfulness of the persecutions themselves! Talk about mishearing a rumour and then acting on to resolve life & death matters… 😱

  • Nachash as serpent seems strange the consanants particularly Thus term is used when Moses staff becomes a snake at the burning bush But I thought Tanim was used in the later story between the magicians of Egypt and Aaron It’s been a while but I got the impression Nachash is a serpent power (possibly linked to Asherah, there’s a Ugarit text referring to divination from a wizard of Asherah) It’s been a while since I looked at all this but it triggered some memories

  • I’d be so very, very dead if I’d live in any other time than this. I had a little revelation a few years ago, that the Pharisees who were observing Yeshua.. aka Jesus.. absolutely thought that he was practicing witchcraft. So that gets rocks thrown in my direction from both the Christian and the traditional religious perspective to start. But when I add in my own experiences from early childhood, including seeing the Holy Spirit as my 1st sentient awareness when I was around 21&1/2 months old, followed by far too many other supernatural things beyond that point up and through this morning.. I’d be stoned outside the city gates, thrown from Mt. Herman, or burned at the stake, undoubtedly, again and again. Just yesterday, 3/1/2022, around the hour before and after sunset, I was perusal the clouds “talking”, and the thought occurred to me that it is entirely Natural for me to be supernatural.. or conversely.. perhaps I am Supernaturally simply natural. I’m sure there are numerous others, such as myself, who feel both Welcome by the Creation & Creator.. but shunned by the “Learned” ones who only see things from their own perspectives and their books and traditions. I never knew the term Aeromancy before today, but I looked it up.. and this is apparently what happens to me frequently. Sometimes I just ask an open ended question, but sometimes I just watch. The clouds seem to have a lot to say lately, particularly since 2014. Still have no clue how to “do” any of this, but it’s not about the “how” apparently.

  • I was perusal one of the Israel websites on archeology and a Roman era Synagogue with a rolling stone door, and in the incense burner on the wall above the steps or on the beginning of the path to the entrance they have found traces of cannabis, I believe it’s a young Israeli couple who cruse around checking out all the sights and discovery’s being made all the way up till Oct. 7th 2023 for sensible reasons, unless you bring guns and a lot too, maybe some of those cool Israeli rocket launchers, grenade’s and tactical protection gear, along with all the tools….hmm maybe better wait till the head of the snake is cut off 1st…go go IDF! Shalom

  • I thought that magicians can simply create illusions or do forbidden summoning but any human can perform miracles (if he is truly believing in G-d) as it said:

  • There’s every chance that I’ve no idea whatsoever of what I’m talking about, but is there not good reason to suppose that various, if not all forms of divination might be prohibited because of their potential to do harm by misleading those for whom the operations are carried out? Any moron who’s spent enough time in front of a reflective surface practising looking spooky and grave might look at the clouds and depress an entire community of already desperate people by prophecising drought in a well-practised doomsday voice. The future might be guessed at intelligently, but it’s immoral to make the claim that such a guess represents absolute truth. On the other hand, creating a golem of clay with a scroll inscribed with the name of god baked into it to protect your people is arguably a noble pursuit. Does that logic stand up to scrutiny and sit fairly well with the information provided in this presentation? Maybe I’m stating the obvious? I’m not sure. I’ll give it another watch after sunrise.

  • My mother got involved with mediums… Fortune Tellers, wee Jee boards, etc. They plunged her into darkness and she was never able to come out of it. She was faithful to Christianity but lost her way. It was sad to watch her deteriorate. She died suddenly. This article is so helpful. We must always follow the Commandments of God and give testimony to Jesus Christ, the true son of the Most High.

  • My Daughter was raised in Church. Her and her Father and I all got saved and Baptized. About a year or 2 ago, she messed around with a homemade Ouija board. She said strange things were happening in her home because of this. I went over to her house and I could just feel the heaviness and tension all around me. We said a Prayer and I commanded the evil spirits to leave. The dining room lights flickered right after I commanded them to go. After that, she ended up smoking laced marijuana with a bad influence of a friend. It made her very sick. She then became beyond disrespectful to her dad and I. She apologized for her actions and said she didn’t know why she did it. She started going back to Church with us but suddenly quit. She moved to a different home and just informed her dad and I that she is a Lesbian. To add insult to injury, the girl she is with just turned 19 and my Daughter is 29. My heart is broken. She has 4 little girls (My Grandbabies) that I have spent so long teaching that this is wrong in the eyes of God. Please Pray for her as I do to let her open her eyes and come back to God.

  • After I got saved last year. I started to see all kinds of ways people try to interact with and pray to dead people that they call saints and worship their ancestors. Honestly i don’t know all the reasons yet why God forbids this but I will obey (and pray and study). Thanks for this article. Praise God🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

  • I really like your in depth analysis one open interpretation of not only scripture but of times and people’s of the bible. The message for me is clear. Keep my eyes fixed on God, our God. Resist temptation because it is the foothold of the enemy, Satan. And when we have lost favor don’t just put on a show; mean what you say, say what you mean, and do this with humility. Stay blessed. Thank you

  • Beautiful Words biblically laid out! I praise YHWH-God that I was able to speak this truth concerning contacting mediums, using tarot cards, divination of any kind to an elderly neighbor. Prayed that the Holy Spirit would release her from these deceptions and prayers were answered! She told me one day, that everything I told her was the truth. Truly, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD! Never stop seeking our Father in ALL things first and foremost! 🙏

  • This was good information. It highlights how deceptive the enemy can be. In fact it solidifies Gods word furthermore. The boundaries of his word and nature. For the child of God stay obedient for the sinner repent and regain focus. As a sinner I fell but I have hope that one day God will bring me back to my feet. So I can walk back to him and feel safe again. In Jesus name I pray amen.

  • I use to read tarot cards thank God I don’t anymore ABBA FATHER convinced me my pastor told me to throw them away the gifts God gave me I can feel what people are going through and I can with God heal I can read people without cards period and I know there’s more I just can’t think right now these are the gifts God our FATHER has given me

  • Wow. This is one of the most powerful sermons on maintaining trust for, as well as obedience to, God that I think I’ve ever heard, and I listen to several bible commentaries and sermons daily (I work from home). Really good stuff. Very interesting and thought-provoking as well. And the narrator’s voice with that rather somber, even ominous background music is spectacular! Thank you!

  • There was a time, while my father was alive, that he was led by the Holy Ghost to save people from the deadly ones in his highschool. He was brought up to be a fighter by God. Even while he was starving and tired, he found himself being led into dangerous situations by the Lord for others’ sakes around him, because the Lord knew he could take it. I’m only seemingly able to take blows and guard the ones I come across, and the ones I love. As well as heal, and speak in tongues, and call on the weather and fire. We stick to our strengths God has given us.

  • I love this website ❤ I love this voice ❤ I love listening and reading along and opening my bible to find out for myself ❤ this is mind blowing for me when I find new things in the bible specially when guided by this amazing person whoever you are may God bless you greatly to teach us more and more of the word of God ❤❤❤❤ I feel blessed today 😇😇😇

  • For me as per my understanding of the text is that, when Samuel was raised from death he warned king Saul by telling him that, that day was going to be king Saul last day and indeed we see Saul taking his life by falling on his own sword by he had been hit by the spear and he probably die,his armbearer refused to kill him,so he did not want to be found alive by the Philistines.

  • Interesting… all I can say is “Judge not so that you not be judged”. Idolism comes in all kinds of forms, even religious pride. We are all God’s children and what God sees is the content of our hearts. “You know them by their fruits”… “love is the fulfillment of God’s Law” That is what Yeshua/ Jesus said and gave no exceptions of any persons in the Gosples. This is truely our mission in life. God bless us ALL with the spirit of light and Love. Thank you, Amen.

  • These are eye opening messages. I have a question concerning the condemnation of all the characters mentioned to be put to death if such spirits or acts are found among them. I believe that God choose Jacob’s house (from the same man he promised, Abraham) to be his people for specific reason. To be his Worshippers. The question therefore is, What about if God first Commandment to is chosen people was the reason for these prohibitions, to ensure his dominance and authority? Also to make sure that apart from him no man can and shall know more than what they should know because in the act of interpreting omens and conjuring spirits through any medium, the original sin will continue to exist among them. Finally, we know as the Bible put it that God is not God of the Dead but of the Living, because we learnt that Moses and Elija appear to Jesus Christ and most often God is attributed to as God of Abraham, God of Isaach and God of Jacob. What is God preventing?

  • If necromancy was not possible, there would not have been written commandments against it within the Torah that we are to follow. Let us not forget that Pharoah possessed magicians that had supernatural powers and abilities. Let us also be mindful that those with such abilities had ties of worship and sacrifices to fallen angels. Thus, we should not follow exegetical hypothesis just because it soothes the modern Christian scholar’s confusion. Shalom

  • Many claim it wasn’t really Samuel who was called forth, but the Bible says it was Samuel. It doesn’t say it was a demon or devil in disguise. I believe it would have if that were the case. Now we are replaying the whole thing. There is a new Saul and a 2nd Samuel, which is David. May the Blessings of God, the Fellowship of Jesus Christ, and the Guidance of the Holy Spirit be with us all! 🙏♥️🕊️

  • The most important argument confirming that it was indeed Samuel who was summoned and interacted with Saul is not mentioned in this article (which is a bit shocking), but is found in a scripture that took place years earlier in the story – 1 Samuel 15:35. After Samuel reproves Saul for not obeying the Lord it says CLEARLY, “And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death.” And that’s exactly what happened. Samuel is summoned from the earth and within 24 hours Saul is dead in battle. Therefore we see that the Samuel that is summoned by the witch is the same as the prophet who interacted with Saul during his life on earth.

  • I believe it was the real Samuel sent not by the witch but by God to prophecy against Saul. The witch was used to impersonating spirits and she was shocked when she saw the real Saul and realised it was Saul. God acted outside his law not against it. His law is for our good. Saul ended with a full assurance of damnation. Solemn.

  • The evil in Saul was none other than Satan. This conversation is such a parraelel to the garden. Saul disguised himself and the woman knew that she would be judged by God for commiting sin. He therefore swore by the Lord himself that she wouldnt be harmed. Does that not sound like, “you shall not surely die”?

  • You really nailed this issue of what happens at death. So many people and websites get this wrong. It’s like 99% of websites. Even people I strongly agree with on many many topics get this wrong because, I think, it’s embedded in minds from media and mystery religion teachings. It frustrates me to death that people can’t get this one straight. It’s so clear that sheol is just death or the grave but some verses are poetic in it’s use so people want it to be true. Jonah crying from sheol while being in the belly of the fish and Samuel being called from the dead are two massive stories used. The 3rd is Lazarus and the Richman but clearly this is a parable to the pharisees, who at the time, are steeped in the mystery religious beliefs and see the purification of the ‘soul’ in fire as something that is reality sort of like purgatory. It comes from Babylonian thinking. That’s why they use imagery of fire especially in the NT. In all of Matthew, ‘Jesus’ says gehenna which gets translated as ‘hell’. They then translate Tartarus and sheol as ‘hell’ but in reality the lake of fire is only mentioned during the time of judgement and death and sheol are thrown in the lake of fire with everyone else who fails the 2nd test which is called the 2nd death…. not the 2nd eternal life in ‘hell’ but death. Only the fallen angels who are in an abyss chained up and then the false prophet, the beast, and devil are ever said to spend any time conscious in ‘hell’ fire or a burning lake or in the abyss of the earth.

  • What a counterfiter the devil is, the farther of lies, their is no rest for the wicked it’s madness to fight God, oh Jesus thank you for delivering your people from this dark kingdom of Satan, help us by you r free grace to continually walk thru you the door of our salvation, help us to obey you and draw near to you. So be it!

  • She (the witch) raised Samuel or made a way for Saul to consult him. That’s what the scripture says. Those other explanations require that you come to conclusions that the text doesn’t suggest. Why would Saul have come to this woman if it was not widely believed that she could communicate with the dead? That’s what Saul punished people like her for, not because they were good at theater. These were Necromancers, these old Hebrew women like the witch at Endor. You should take that passage at face value. Samuel warned Saul from the darkness of death. Saul recognized the old prophet.

  • samuel told saul to wait until he got there to perform the scarifice, but saul didn’t wait and god didn’t accept Saul’s sacrifice. Then saul becomes jealous of David and runs to the Endor witches. Saul tricks the witch and asks to speak with Samuel who already passed. Samuel says to saul, “why did you bring me up…. tomorrow you and your sons will be with me!” (1 Samuel 28:19)

  • For those who think that Christians are conscious with Jesus immediately after the death of the body, I have two questions: 1. Why did people who were resurrected in the Bible (and there’s at least 5 of them) never have anything to say about Heaven? Proof from Scripture, please. 2. If the PERSON is conscious in Heaven – supposedly knowing and feeling and seeing and loving, etc – then what was the point in having a body in the first place? Or do you think Satan imprisoned our souls in the flesh, like the Gnostics teach? 3. Don’t answer my questions with a question. That’s cheating, and you know it.

  • Funny how professed Christians believe that thing that was summoned by the witch was Samuel, the prophet of God. Read: Samuel 15:23-35 it states that Samuel saw Saul no more till the day of his death. That doesn’t mean that the prophet saw after his death, it means he never saw Saul again in his lifetime. The LORD departed from Saul and an evil spirit took over him. “But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.” 1 Samuel 16:14-15. Saul rebelled against the LORD, therefore the LORD rejected him. 1 Samuel 28:6. No magic user can ever operate on God’s behalf. Exodus 22:18, and Deuteronomy 18:10. Nowhere in the Bible dose it say that God ever spoke through a witch or wizard. God never changed His Word for any reason, especially not for Saul.

  • While the witch was performing the ritual to summon demons, Samuel suddenly showed up. This frightened the witch so much that she left the scene. She’s not expecting it. To me it was really the spirit of Samuel who showed up. This is a rare exception. The message here also is to respect our departed love ones and not try to make contact with them anymore. Divination is a violation of the first commandment of God.

  • I suspect space-time acts like a magnetic recorder that records ‘events’ which can be replayed by ‘remote viewers’. I suspect young children between 18 months and 6 years are the most sensitive to the “sixth sense”. Their spirits are just ‘wide open’. You can help your child by taking their fears seriously and encouraging them to talk about their feelings. These “ghosts,” both remembered and unremembered, often manifest themselves as anxious or avoidant adult attachment styles. The Witch of Endor was able to summon the Ghost of Samuel the Seer. And I believe this event was literally, factually true as recorded in the Scriptures. However at that ancient time in Hebrew History communication with the dead was a terrible taboo. Since the Death and Resurrection of Christ, we are now able to pray with the Saints since Christ now protects us. Jesus inaugurated the “safe zone” when he spoke with Moses & Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration. If we read the Scriptures, we find that controversial passage found in 1 Samuel 28. This passage created great controversy among the Fathers of the Church. In fact, at least three distinct interpretations can be found. 1. The woman called Samuel forth from the dead (Justin Martyr, Origen, Ambrose, and Augustine). 2. Whether it was Samuel or a demon, it appeared at God’s bidding and not by some magic of the woman (Chrysostom, Theodoret). 3. The entity was a demon who deceived Saul and gave him a false prophecy (Tertullian, Hippolytus, Ephrem the Syrian, Evagrius, Basil, Jerome, Ambrosiaster, & Gregory of Nyssa).

  • I may disagree with this article, but I have great respect for the Word of God and the Bible, and here the question comes with all love, respect and appreciation to the maker of this article, and I say to him What about those who dream of the dead peoples..? And what if the dead bring very real messages in these dreams, with the utmost precision and details that will happen in the future, even if a scene in the dream will happen in reality exactly as it happened, with all the details, even the places and even the people that I met in the dream, I saw as real in reality and in the same breath. The place and I didn’t know who these people were How do you explain that?? my father is dead and after this one week later i dream of him and he told me message and all what he told me happened exactly right in reality, all details i swear All this has already been achieved in reality like movie and i watched it befor in my eyes and i was so wonder .. something inside me say your father is this person lives a saint in heaven like the angels

  • As an Israelite I am fascinated by the fact that our history is the focus of so many other people when our relationship with OUR G-d has nothing to do with anyone else. Its quite unsettling to see two groups of Caucasians fighting over northeast Africa. The demonic nature of so many people is horrifying.

  • It says in the word not to have dealings with mediums and sorcerers because they speak not with the dead but with evil spirits for the dead are asleep and know nothing of the living. So this medium that Saul spoke with used her witchcraft to terrorize and deal revenge on him, because in the beginning and during his reign he sought out mediums and sorcerers to kill them; so it was hypocritical that, when he was cut off from the spirit of the Lord, he sought out one of the last remaining mediums in his kingdom and that he did so in secret is telling. It’s no surprise that it led to his death.

  • Apostolic Churches such as all of the Orthodox Churches have always had Wisdom Of Sirach as still part of the Biblical Cannon. While Non-Apostolic churches and Evangelicals/Protestants hold it as Deuterocanonical or apocryphal. In either case the book shows the traditional understanding that it was Samuel who spoke from the grave. Verse 46:20 states,” Even after he fell asleep, he prophesied, and showed the king his end, and lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, to blot out the wickedness of the people.” – Sirach 46:20. It was Samuel. The Bible says it was Samuel and it seems to be confirmed by Sirach 46:20. Many heretical sects removed the Wisdom of Sirach and Maccabees partly because of the witness of deoarted saints who were seen praying for the living… but the Orthodox Church has kept it since Apostolic times.

  • Here’s how we can test that it was NOT the real Samuel: God does not sin. If He himself forbade necromancy and calls it an abomination, then he cannot participate in it also. Even the devil masquerades as an angel of light. IOW, the medium was infested by demons. The demons knew exactly why Saul had been ignored by God because they watch everything.

  • Amen>>>> Hallelujah I give praise and glory to the omnipresent God. If a psychic summoned Samuel as he said, I believe that all we can do is acknowledge all the countless evil spirits that oppose God in this world. It cannot be possible. Even though it is called Christianity, there are so many mystical things. I believe that those who only believe and rely on the words of the Bible, which I heard and that heaven has been closed, are the true children of God.

  • Also its not an impossibility God could have allowed the apperance of Samuel in an exceptional case. Remember Elijah and Moses appeared with Jesus on the mount. And spoke with Jesus of his upcomng decease. Also when the bible says the dead know nothing, it means that human body. Ask yourself a question, what actually died? The body! The soul and spirit never die like the body. Its always alive, and will either go with God or be sent to hell. And if the soul is sleep and doesnt go to heaven and knows nothing, then you will have a hard time explaining the story, not a parable, BUT REAL STORY, as told by Jesus of Lazarus and the rich man, and also the myriads of people IN HEAVEN seen by John in Revelation.

  • The doctrine of the ” soul sleep ” is a false doctrine. When they talk about the dead know nothing, for the memory of them has perished, they are talking about ” Under the Sun ” meaning the earthly man, the physical body has perished. But this doesn’t have anything to do with our ” spiritual self “. Even the saints we were martyred cries out for vengeance written in scripture. Here is a biblical passage which confirms that our spirit/soul is fully conscious after death. Spoken by Jesus himself. The Rich Man and Lazarus 19 “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side.(a) The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.

  • Many preachers now are preaching word of GOD but not believing in what is written in the Bible. King James Bible But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Isaiah 55:8-9 King James Version 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. If it is written in the Bible that the spirit of Samuel who spoke to king Saul then believed it do not dig in. Like our lord JESUS said ”Today you will be with me in paradise” many preacher also don’t believed in this word of our lord JESUS because they apply human logic saying that it is impossible for our Lord JESUS to be in paradise on that same day.

  • Even after he fell asleep, he prophesied, and showed the king his end, and lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, to blot out the wickedness of the people. Sirach 46:20 Even those who do not accept Sirach as Canonical it clearly shows the Israelites believed that Samuel spoke to Saul. Those who believe in the heresy of soul sleep are clearly wrong. The saints pray for us and we for them justcas Jeremiah was seen praying for the people in the book of Macabbees.

  • Even though there’s a lot of people in here who have something to say about people who have gifts do know that there are many of us who are lightworker. We didn’t realize that we asked for this job but it was part of who we are and what our purpose on this planet is. And there are people out there who have gift but they’re not working for God they’re not actually in the light of God and I realize that. So do be very careful when you’re out seeking think you’ll be able to tell the difference if you actually talking to a lightworker. Because lightworkers don’t have little collar setup we don’t dress up like gypsies. We are just normal everyday people but you can normally tell. In my case wherever I go there’s always animal. I’ve had the most strangest animals come out of the woods to come sit near me. And if you see someone who’s like that and they’re able to give you Insight something that seemed very calm and soothing than you know that you’re in the presence of a lightworker hopefully that helped everyone else

  • When you don’t do what you are told to do and disobey the lord and do good things and separate you’re self were you don’t fit that’s doing the right thing in the lies eyes I no it’s not easy but I no because I walk in that path until I had to leave my family back home my mother also is in the witch craft world I don’t speak to my mother because she had a lot to do with the bad things that happen in my life I have to forgive one day and I’m soooo hurt because it wasn’t easy to leave my home

  • This spirit world is more real than this physical world that we can see and feel. Even when we are around other people, we can feel and pick up on their spirits. Often times, we will hear someone say that they can pick up on or feel a person’s aura. What they actually feel and pick up on is that person’s spirit. We are also dealing with good angelic spirits and evil demonic spirits. The Bible specifically tells us not to interact with one that has a familiar spirit which is also a demon. There are demons that are perusal us. This is why they are familiar with us. They sit back and watch us. They also listen to us. This is why they can mimick our voice. They know what our voice sounds like. This is why this wicked spirit that this witch of Endor brings up that was supposed to be the dead prophet Samuel was able to sound like him. As born again believers, we are not to seek after psychics, palm readers, or fortune tellers. We are supposed to be reading Gods word and talking to him about our problems and worries. We are to pray and seek after God until we get an answer. We are to pray and listen to the voice of God

  • This is why G-d told Saul was to do ask G-d commanded. That things were different before the flood of Noah. In Genesis 6 and those old clay jar’s they found in the Qumron Desert, the book of Enoch. That the angel’s sent down to “watch” over mankind, saw “human women were fair” and those angel’s “fell from their lofty places”. Not only did 1/3 of the angel’s fall from the war in Heaven, that 200-300 fell at this time. That means they had sex. They produced children. Giants and half human, half creature beings. They were the rulers at that time, they were the kings and queens. They are advanced. Have spaceships and flew around the world and space. That the US Astronaut’s saw buildings on the moon. The fallen angel’s took on an “Reptilian image”, the serpent. They were worshipped world wide. That’s why some places have to be seen from the air, like the Nazca Lines and hieroglyphs. They were land markings. Look at the ancient pagan temples, they are chiseled on them. Look at the ancient archaeological findings from the Egyptians, the Hindus, the Mayans, and many more. Read other religion’s ancient writings, they are written there. The aliens and men, with their spaceship’s are carved in stone. In America, we have a “Serpent Mound”. There is a mountain top in Peru that is fashioned into a “Serpent Image”. That the fallen angel’s were messing with human’s DNA. Noah and his family were the only “pure” humans left on earth. The fallen angel’s were trying to destroy the family bloodline of Jesus.

  • Eccesiastes is speaking of the apparent futility and vanity of all things under the sun, not making a doctrinal statement. When parts o the Bible comment on this apparent vanity under the sun and states that the dead have no more reward and will not return that is not a doctrinal statement either… otherwise you would be rejecting heavenly reward and resurrection. It is clear that the dead body to all appearances knows nothing and has no thoughts

  • Shalom brothers and sisters in the name of YAHSHUA HAMASHIACH, our Savior. Its pretty interesting when Christian or gentiles are using those references in the scripture to remind people that it is Imperative to Obey to the Commandments of the Most High, YHWH. Be obedient doesn’t only mean having faith but also what He recommended us to do. ” If you love me keep my Commandments” John 14:15. Then Matthew 5:17-18 makes it clear. Please let the Holy Spirit fill you all with Wisdom so that you all may understand the true meaning of Obedience. Shalom!

  • It is debatable whether, or not it was Samuel that came up. I tend to believe. No it was not. But I do believe Saul died in his sins. I also believe that what happened to Samuel. Should be taken as a strong dire warning. Not to act on our own in disobedience to God. When we have clear directive. Also under no circumstances are we to go to psychics, spiritual mediums. This also includes. Do not go to “Prophets” for a “Word from the Lord. “. But seek him only in and alone in his Word. The Bible and in prayer. He will answer us in his sovereign time and will. Not ours. Never force God to go your way. It will always lead to a bad end.

  • Deuteronomy 18:10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, anyone practicing magic, anyone who looks for omens, a sorcerer, 11 anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium or a fortune-teller, or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, Obviously anyone consulting a spirit medium would have Satan or one of his demons do the answering.

  • The most reliable perspective of this text to my brothers and sisters in Christ is: Satan had the keys of death and hades against humans till Jesus took it from him through His death and resurrection, so satanic powers could do it but God allowed it through His sovereignty according His will and plan.

  • Thank you for the article as it points out a lot of information about the subject matter but i want to know if you believe in hell and the lake of fire because you said the body returns to the dust it came from and the spirit returns to the Lord but what about the soul, what happens to soul after death.

  • I see no reason to doubt that it was actually Samuel. Also, it doesn’t say that Samuel was resurrected. Just that he spoke with him. Also, Samuel wouldn’t need to scold Saul for necromancy. Saul knew the law. Also, it’s not a problem for God to use Saul’s necromancy to deliver a message. God uses the sins of man for his own purposes all the time.

  • Even praying to Mother Mary in order to get her to contact Jesus is NECROMACY and also praying to dead saints for they are DEAD and can NOT HEAR you, ONLY JESUS died and rose again. My mother was into new age and I got into it, raised up in it, I even went to a new age church, oh yes they are out there, but it left me EMPTY inside and when I received Jesus into my heart as my Savior, only then did I have PEACE for satan can NEVER give you peace just emptness. If a person is saying that they can talk with the a dead person they are LYING for they are just speaking to demons disquised as that person that you want to talk to, so BEWARE, if you have done this and you are a christian, then REPENT and ask God to forgive you !

  • May the lord give us the courage to accept his kill giants command, slaughter their cattle, leave behind their wealth, invite from our shepherds, he who has protected his dad’s cattle from bears and beasts, serve his grains to comrades and cheese to CO, allow to sling fling and clear the pathway, grabbing the head back to tell tale amongst fellow shepherdess, of course the serenity to not cross verify motives, finally the wisdom to foresee who’s lineage, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’ Or ” ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

  • The belief that it is YHWH, who is giving permission is ridiculous on its face, as scripture does not give prohibitions of things that we could conjure up in some way through the Most High Creator, it instead is trying to impart upon us a deeper spiritual understanding of the nature of the world that we live in, and that these things are not only possible, but have serious if not deadly consequences. Neither we nor certainly not a witch could tempt, the most high into being complicit in wickedness. It is far more in-line with all of scripture to understand that this witch, who much like the story of the amalekite king, was allowed to live even though there is a Prohibition against it. This clearly indicates the depravity that one would fall into when in disobedience to the Most High and HIS Word. Not to mention Shemu’el, scorns and rebuked Sha’ul.

  • The main thing that Saul did that caused the Lord’s mercy to depart from him was when he Kills the Priests at Nob. Killing the all of the Priests was shedding innocent blood. This was way worse than anything else he did. Saul ordered the death, not only of Israel’s chief priest, but also of 85 other priests. THAT IS A LOT OF INNOCENT BLOOD ON YOUR SKIRT!

  • Maybe it shows that we don’t play when the occult because there is a power there though not comparable to living God. It’s the only time in the Bible where we see this so maybe God allowed it to consummate sauls sin(s), she was surprised. Samuel doesn’t address the woman’s son as she is compelled by the king and this story is climaxing the finality of sauls tragic life.

  • i wa always wondering why God put a tormenting spirit on sauls mind to torment him…….disobedient to the Lord i seen it in my own family my mum told my sister not to marry a certain guy he only went to church to get my sister she was a looker in her day today shes 58 her 3 kids love their father than her she looks 100 i feel so sorry for her but i also saw…..disobedience pays a high price too if we dont listen to God and saul committed suicide too…….he fell on his own sword……scary 😌💔👎

  • I very much doubt if that statement that the dead know nothing holds water, because without such knowledge how can Moses and Elija minister to Jesus Christ? I believe that Solomon who said that was induced to say it with his mortal wisdom since he has not experienced death yet. Knowledge is infinite and goes beyond the grave I believe since the spirit goes back to his GIVER and leave the fleshly garment here.

  • ▪️The Bible teaches that the dead CANNOT communicate with the living through mediums, sorcerers, and witches under any circumstance, including those who die in Christ because they are no longer living. ▪️A demon used demonic, deceptive, supernatural power to IMPERSONATE Samuel, but it was not him because Samuel was DEAD. Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 5) For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 10) Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. ▪️Please pray for discernment to understand the state of the dead according to what God says about it in the Bible. ▪️Satan is ensnaring and leading many souls to destruction by their lack of understanding of this principle.

  • Pride was not his orginal sin of Saul! NO KING HAD GONE BEFORE HIM! He did NOT pursue David for the rest of his reign either! King Saul Killed all the witches in the land like no other before him and asked if there were any left in the land! Further, King David was NOT READY. Saul pursuing David taught him how to War and protect G-d’s dynasty. Poor Saul. He is the third best King in Israel’s history. He is also the soul of Judah, King Jehoshaphat and others. When God makes a king eternal it may take many reigns and life’s for him to accomplish this objective. You are no authority on the matter. READ the bible and study the book of the kings.

  • Palm readers, vibe readers, fortune tellers, witchdoctors in South Africa we have Sangomas, all these are of the same spirit. Once you visit just once, you will inherit a spiritual animal that will suck you dry like a parasite! It’s all good in the beginning but the end is chaos. Do not visit them! It is no joke, I have heard Pastors wives’ tell me spiritual beings sleep with them smx when the pastor is right next to them. The things people do for fame & worldly glory will hurt those next to you. Ephesians 6 is no joke! One of the reasons why I don’t take TV preachers seriously. They can preach about it but don’t know how to use God’s shield & sword in a time of warfare. This is Sparta😮Sorry this is War!

  • Why does a God,who is all powerful, who had unlimited ability who in the 10 commandments said ” thou shalt not kill” would he require Saul to exterminate a neighbouring tribe, men, women, children and animals, when this God was perfectly capable of doing the dirty work himself??? What sort of god would encourage the Jews to comitt a war crime of ethnic cleansing.

  • It seems like every Christian forgets how deceiving Satan and other demons can be when it comes to this story. We know that human souls cannot be conjured up by witchcraft or any craft. Period. Our spirit bodies are in one of 2 places and thats it, we can’t come back from hell to visit grandma or vice versa. This is a familiar spirit, an evil spirit pretending to be someone you know. Hince the “familiar” spirit. Dont be deceived people please, there are no mistakes in the Bible. Samuel wouldnt have come up from hell, he would have ascended from above probably lol.

  • I hate when scholars try to intrepret what is written. It states that he was brought up from the dead. The author knows the truth, and would have said it was a trick. Is there other examples of when God was deceitful?? Is it okay for God to break his word? Psalms 101:7 states 7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.

  • If this was an illusion then Ezekiel’ dry bones and Christ and lazarus would have been equally a farse! As well Jirus daughter and Jesus would eqally stand! The reason for the devil wanting Moses body; what would the body prophet if it cannot be used. If the gospel speaks of King David laying in his tomb as where a treee that falleth so it is! Why condemn a practise that ussless! Wantin the hings of God without the law or otherwise wanting to use the law but rejecting a relationship….Lord grant us the staying grace!
