To learn a pet skill from the wild, you need to stable your regular pet, go out and tame a pet that knows the skill you want, and fight with it until you get a text message that you have learned the new skill. Sometimes this happens immediately, sometimes only after several battles. There is a lot of RNG in how long it takes to learn a new skill, sometimes it works first try, and sometimes it takes a few hundred.

To teach your pet a skill, you must first know it yourself. There are two ways to learn a pet ability: some abilities can be learned from a pet trainer in town, and some abilities you learn from taming creatures. Most default pet training will come from the pet trainer located near the hunter trainer who comes with a specific set of predefined skills your pet can learn. As you level, you’ll be able to train your pet with the new skill.

To learn a pet skill from a pet in the wild, you must first stable your current pet and go out into the wild to tame the beast that knows your desired skill. You can only teach a skill to your pet if the pet has enough training points, which are earned as your level and loyalty of your pet increase. Once you tame a beast that possesses a desired pet skill or ability, you can learn the ability and afterwards train the new ability to other pets (that can be learned).

Taming your first pet comes at the end of a level 10 quest called The Hunter’s Path, which you get from your hunter trainer. This is quickly followed by three other steps to learn a pet skill from the wild.
