  • I didn’t think I could have more respect from Michael Sheen. He immediately understood the situation, became fully empathetic and present, held space for Leo, didn’t try to coax him, being very understanding instead and took it to the next level by not acting as if Leo had been any different. He understood that he was going to overcome this and made it totally ok for him to reach that point!

  • Watching Michael Sheen stay calm and quiet while Leo took the time he needed was a Master class in what good communication is all about. You never know what wisdom can come unless you take the time to sit and wait for the other speaker to be ready. Sometimes it takes more than one try – what came out of Leo’s mind was so beautifully articulated.

  • In these fast living times, we tend to forget to slow down and take a closer look around us. There are people struggling with every day life and those are often overlooked. It’s so touching to see them properly and give them the proper time to let them express themselves. ❤ and Michael Sheen’s patience and generosity should be an example to us all. 🙌

  • What a wonderful interaction! Anyone who has anxiety, especially over any public event and especially over pablic speaking can relate to Leo. And the kindness, compassion and patience of Michael and public encouragement and support is what we all need in moments like this. And I agree with Michael and everyone in the comments section, it was a fantastic question and Michael reply was wonderful, too.We all should strive to communicate like that. Leo is incredibly brave and smart and very relatable. I Love every second of this article.

  • The way Michael Sheen smiled at him, is the warmest, kindest, most generous, caring smile I’ve ever seen. Just a smile that says “its ok, I’m proud of you and I believe in you and you have nothing to prove, I just want you to feel and do whatever you want to feel and do, the way you want to feel and do it”. There is no one on earth who is better suited to play a literal angel

  • Michael Sheen is so respectful of people and allows others the opportunity to express themselves fully and authentically. Leo asks his question calmly and clearly with passion. Michael gives a rounded answer maintaining eye contact to emphasise their genuine connection in that moment and thanks Leo making him feel his question was truly appropriated. ❤

  • I love Micheal Sheen as an actor and perusal this only makes me love him more. Being the perfect example of an incredible human being by both being patient and encouraging towards Leo, giving him the time and space he needed to find his voice to ask his question. He saw Leo’s needs and made the whole situation feel more accommodating for him and Leo showed a huge amount of courage to compose himself perfectly and ask his question to such an inspirational and beloved actor. Honesty, I’m not sure if I’d be able to do it myself given the situation. An incredible interaction between two amazing people 💜

  • People with communication trouble REALLY appreciate it when people make the effort to be patient and listen. I had a kid tell me that she’d never met an adult that was so easy to talk to right away, just because I didn’t get annoyed with her stutter, I didn’t treat her like she was dumb, and I didn’t talk over her. I got called cool by a 13 year old…for being polite! Think about that.

  • Michael’s smile is so kind and so genuine! You can really see he’s not faking it nor being polite for the sake of the cameras! It’s not a persona, it’s true compassion and patience and understanding. My respect for him just multiplied by a billion times. This is proof that there is a lot of truly good, compassionate people in this world❤

  • As a lifelong stammerer myself, I appreciate how hard it can be when you get stuck on the delivery. Makes you want to scream sometimes because you can’t say a word that starts with an ‘s’. Well done Leo for sticking with it and getting the question across so well. Michael Sheen gets my respect for just waiting and letting him do his thing.

  • Before even reading what this was about I recognized the autism within 2 seconds. So glad to see how patient everyone was, encouraging and how this young man stuck to his guns to ask the question himself… I am the dad of a son on the spectrum and I can tell you, these little victories bring a tear to your eye each and every time.

  • Such kindness towards Leo. 💕The patience paid off. What a fantastic question. Just shows that people can vastly underestimate those that may be shy, introvert or just take a little longer to express themselves. And Michael. What a guy. Genuine connection with Leo and what great answer. Truly, that clip brought a tear to my eye.

  • There is so many interactions in this that are uplifting from half a dozen different people. But how proud must his parents be. He knew he had this, he knew he was stronger than his fears and had the self esteem to wait until he was ready to ask his question so coherently and eloquently. Very admirable young man.

  • People need to take note of this. Handled beautifully. Just because someone is too nervous to speak, doesn’t mean we should move on, or talk for them. Give them time. The more they are able to get those words out, the more confidence will come with time, and the less they will struggle. Let them take a moment, every time. Anxiety always falls away, whether in a minute or an hour.

  • As a very shy person myself, I cannot express how beautiful this is. Everyone is different, but for me (and maybe some other people?), being encouraged like “Come on, you can do it!” or “You’ve got this!” only makes it worse, like there’s more pressure to not let people down. And we want desperately to speak for ourselves, not have someone else do it for us, as much as possible. (To be clear, I ABSOLUTELY understand those things come from a place of care and empathy, and I DO appreciate that! I’m just explaining that sometimes it can feel different from the other side.) But Michael didn’t do any of that. He just made it clear that he was in no hurry and that he was sincerely interested in what Leo had to say even if it took a little longer to hear it. He waited quietly and patiently, with a kind and encouraging smile, until the time was right, and then he answered the question beautifully and without reference to the struggle. I’ve been crying every time I think of this since I first saw it yesterday, and tears are running down my face as I type this. I know Michael Sheen will never see this, but I want to express my deep gratitude for his kindness, patience, understanding, and humanity (not even to mention his humility and candor in admitting that he doesn’t always understand Dylan Thomas) in this moment. It’s truly a thing of eternal beauty. Edited to add: Kudos also to the production for not cutting this. They easily could have made it look as if nothing much happened, and we would have never seen this wonderful interaction.

  • Everyone has their own time. We should all strive to be this patient with the people we meet. Sometimes it can waste your time, but sometimes, it can inspire, bring up something you are passionate about when no one else seems to care. Patience can be be a blessing and the people we might wave off can be the people we want to wave for when times are tough.

  • Michael is fantastic here. Lots of folks could, or would feel the need to, begin to sorta, dumb it down, because they think “Oh, he’s a special boy so his upstairs aren’t following along”. Michael is so calm, patient and encouraging. The madlad is so extremely well-articulated. We should all be more like Michael. I know I’m trying to.

  • As a kid, I suffered with a speech impediment. The worst thing anyone can do is try to rush you to alleviate the social discomfort or to try to finish your sentence for you. I don’t know if Leo struggles with his speech or if it’s down to anxiety but on behalf of anyone who has or has had issues like this, thanks to Michael for having patience and giving Leo the time and space to get his words out. And well done Leo for standing up for yourself and persevering — you did great. 🫡

  • I am quite a confident person and carry myself well in my professional life, but I still have anxiety and second-guess myself all the time. It’s clips like this that inspire me because if I think it’s difficult to be brave and put myself out there, how difficult must it have been for this young man? Being brave doesn’t mean you are a business leader or the captain of the football team. Being brave is about no matter who you are, when you decide to step outside of you comfort zone, being scarred but doing it anyway. Through our fears we grow. Well done Leo

  • As someone who was very quiet and shy in school…i wish my teachers had the patience Michael had here. and because they didnt and rushed me, i lost my confidence and would get panic attacks anytime i had to stand up in front of everyone. Im 25 now and still dont have that confidence. Michael told him to take his time, smiled at him to show that its ok. and then complimented him on the question, wich showed Leo that his questions and voice matters. Wich probably boosted his confidence. Wich is great!

  • Wonderful. Reminded me of my younger self, when I spent many many years trying to overcome such anxiety. I remember my pulse starting to accelerate, when I would have to ask similar questions in front of everyone. It was uncomfortable, and I fumbled sometimes. Eventually, I got over it and was able to control it. Good on you, Leo, well done.

  • Good grief Leo, you would make an absolutely brilliant journalist, or art critic, or writer – in fact pretty much anything in the arts (and quite probably elsewhere too, but I don’t know you outside of this brief clip). Honestly you have more natural talent in your little finger than half the journalists I work with daily, and I mean that seriously. I would literally pay to work with you instead. That was such an intelligent, insightful, well researched question, impeccable verbal delivery, genuine deep listening to your interviewee’s response, and absolutely brilliant feedback to your interviewee in the form of subtle nods and smiles of recognition and gently encouraging facial expressions. Unbelievable natural talent. I can literally see you being the next Michael Parkinson. Incredible job, well done.

  • Neil Gaiman said he asked Michael to play the angel Aziraphale in Good Omens because Michael is one of the kindest people he knows. Neil said he knew that kindness will shine through. I never realized how much of that kindness, gentleness and warmth that we see in that character is really in Michael. Didnt think I could admire this man any more until I watched this.

  • If you haven’t watched the full interview I highly recommend that you do. Michael Sheen was brilliant at encouraging their questions, empathic to each and everyone and fully engaged with them. His smile and warmth to all of them was infectious and disarming. They in turn were amazing for the questions they asked, their humour and enthusiasm and overcoming their own challenges. Some amazing people made an exceptional contribution.
