What is the qi of the lungs?

Dominating qi involves two aspects: dominating the qi of respiration and dominating the qi of the entire body. The lung is a respiratory organ that allows the qi of the exterior and interior to mingle, inhaling clear qi from the natural environment and exhaling waste qi from the interior. Its function greatly influences the body’s functional activities and is closely related to the formation of pectoral qi, which is formed from essential qi from water and food and the clear qi inhaled by the lung. When the lung’s function of dominating qi is normal, the passage of qi is unobstructed, and respiration is smooth.

Dominating descending and regulating water passages is another aspect of qi domination. The lung, being the uppermost zang organ, has the function of descending, promoting the circulation of qi and body fluid through the body. Dysfunction of the lung in descending may lead to upward perversion of lung qi, symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath.

  • You are a life saver. I have suffered with asthma my entire life. When I was a kid, I had a severe asthma attack and went to the hospital, at which I was hooked up to an air tank, and I can still remember sitting there wheezing. All my life, I have had anxiety and a shortness of breath, but pushing on this pressure point makes it just go away. Thank you sooo much!

  • I love when natural things work! I’ve been sick the last 3 days, I woke up a bit ago (I work graveyards) thinking I have Covid again but worse! It feels like someone is lightly stepping on my chest 😕 Took 2 covid tests but neg. Found this article, did the technique and I gotta admit my lungs 🫁 don’t feel as restricted. Thank you Dr! 🙏🏽

  • Please Doc, do not let these jerk offs upset you. They have seriously never had any life threatening issues. One day, when they run out of jokes, and maybe they are older and sicker, they will think back to how they responded and may not even remember how to do what you taught. What comes around, goes around people. So just remember what you put out. I still think that you helped more folks than not, as having been a provider I know that to be true. Sometimes in life, even helping just 1 person makes it all worthwhile! Kudos to you my friend! 💗🍃🌞

  • Thank you Dr. Mandell I am a 66 year old male suffering from COPD and my wife sent me this clip and I watched it a few times. To my amazement I tried doing the simple exercise and was truly surprised with the results I got after just a few times. I will be continuing doing these exercises and the others om the articles that followed. They truly benefficial to me and I am extremely greatful for the article post.🙏

  • I used to wonder why I always put pressure on that area of my hand before I started doing research and studying reflexology and acupressure. It really helps. For those that are joking about this, reflexology and acupressure are real self-healing techniques. You might laugh now while you are young, but you will see when you get older. Thanks for sharing Dr. M

  • I’ve been having some breathing and lung issues for the last 25 years since a serious car accident left me with collapsed lungs. They have never been the same. I put on my oxemeter to check my oxygen intake. It’s always around 90-92%. After doing this exercise and pushing on the spot for my lungs my oxygen saturation has increased to 94-98%. This really works! Thank you!!

  • When my then 2 year old was struggling with respiratory illness we took him to an acupuncturist and he performed the same technique. Within 3 weeks he was much better compared to when we were providing him the scripts recommended by his paediatrician and we consulted a few. It was one of those times in your life you’ll never forget. Thanks for sharing this article and technique.

  • This was so great. You immediately feel the difference! Thank you 🙏 I developed asthma after I spent a week in the hospital due to a micro-sized tear in my left lung. Allergy season sucks, and I always hope and pray I don’t catch a cough because it’s the worst. Always be grateful for your lungs, especially if they’re healthy as can be! Wish nothing but easy breathing for everyone who comes to this article for relief

  • Absolute LEGEND a man I met 79years old has lungs problems so I’ll show him this method, plus he’s having your elixer drink too now the past few days. Honey thyme ginger and he loves it. Unfortunately people rely on the medication and he just found out they gave him not the right pills anyway. THANKYOU SO MUCH

  • Hey Doc…woke up this morning with tightness in the chest, struggling to breathe. This really works. I was in the hospital not so long ago for the same thing and they couldn’t find anything wrong. I often think I’m loosing my mind Everything you’ve talked about so far really works including this method. Keep up the great work 👍

  • Thank you so much. I have COPD and use nebulizer twice a day. There’s times I feel it coming on. And don’t always know why. If I get too active, it starts. I used to walk faster than most everybody. Now I’ve had to slow down. Just bringing in groceries. Course I did have 20 lbs of rice. Lol..I have to tell you… this ACTUALLY WORKED IMMEDIATELY. Thank you so much. I have found some Pulmonary Excercises ..in a book. They really helped to. It’s like a huge breath of fresh air.

  • Wow….it really works!! I know that sounds cliche, but it really does, lol. I just had mucus in my throat and I tried that and my breathing is so much better!! Praise GOD for this information. I am trying to get into an alkaline diet so i can get rid of this mucus, but in between time, this is like a miracle. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Thank you once again Dr. Mandell!! GOD Bless you as well.🙏🏽❤

  • Doing deep breathing while relaxing in my backyard, where there are different birds chirping and whistling, and lots of oxygen coming from 10 Arborvitaes, a Cherry Tree, a Lilac bush, and 2 Butterfly bushes, have done wonders for my breathing. Working in a warehouse for 24 years, where people were allowed to smoke, did some damage to my lungs. I wasn’t one of the smokers.

  • That is crazy, I know my normal O2 intake levels from doing training in the Army, not going to lie, I didn’t think this would’ve had an impact on the amount of O2 I was able to take in, but by the 2nd inhale my nose started to get a burning sensation, and I knew by then it was working, completely amazed, will definitely be doing this before my runs, and before the gym and bed, thanks 🤙

  • I am agoraphobic and I am asthmatic as well I have a tight chest for weeks now I am homebound and can’t even go to the doctor or hospital I only have an inhaler and my prednisones is up I tried looking for ways to open up my lungs without medication I came across this and I feel like crying honestly I’m feeling a relief already please continue what you doing and stay blessed

  • I have been experiencing shortness of breath and feeling like lack of oxygen in my lung for a bout a year, I feel fatigue each day at certain time of the day but I am making time to exercise daily to improve my health and before that I had heart palpitation that required me to see cardiologist. My heart is functioning much better now but my lung is not as quite as it should be yet. Amazingly, this technique is somehow works a little better and I will keep doing that from now. Thank you sir for sharing.

  • Thank you, Dr. Mandell! My breathing felt so restricted I thought I was having pulmonary andema. Took your advice just now, and massaged my hands ‐‐and using this simple pressure point is helping already. Now, I’m sipping on a ginger-thyme-coriander-tumeric, “tea” blend I made, and feeling so much better!

  • Wow! I couldn’t get to sleep because my asthma was just not alleviating enough. After this I was able to breathe regularly without any issue. Absolutely wonderful thank you so much for this! I haven’t used puffers in about 4 years and I want to keep it that way. It’s rare but occasionally I do have issues.

  • I was born asthmatic and these past few days I’ve been having shortness pf breath frequently and tonight it’s been going on and off and I really can’t breathe that well anymore—until I found this article. Thanks for this! I could really see how effective it is! I’ll do this again the next time I experience a shortness of breath again or maybe when I’m getting an asthma attack.

  • Thank you, Doc!!! I have herritaged a round masage brush, maybe 10 years ago, it was my grandmothers one and now I can use it between my hands! I really feel my closed breathing ways to open…Together with your touches on the cheeks round of my nose to the ears! And I will need it/this lighd breathing: so, so much by running, cycling and other sports!!! Thank you and many blessings!:thanksdoc:

  • Praise the Lord ! Dr Mandell ! That I must see your article at such a time as this, during the Covid Pandemic. We have to wear our masks all the time, except when we at home in our own place and our own space then we can relax and breathe freely. Then we can do this exercise to strengthen our lungs, cos the wearing of the mask to protect us also prevent us from getting enough Oxygen! Thank you so much. May you be richly blessed for educating us to stay healthy.
