Anri of Astora is a character in Dark Souls 3, a child who escaped Aldrich and is an Unkindled seeking the Lords of Cinder. She is accompanied by Horace, an alleged member of the Blue Sentinels Covenant. Anri is initially found at the Halfway Fortress bonfire and can be summoned for the Deacons of the Deep boss fight.
To complete Anri’s quest, players must speak with her at the Halfway Fortress bonfire or summon her and Horace the Hushed for the Deacons of the Deep boss fight. Killing the hidden killer will drop a Chameleon spell, allowing Anri to continue their quest while preventing the player from obtaining the ending described in option 1.
Anri is a knight hailing from the land of Astora and travels with Horace the Hushed. To complete her quest, players can purchase the Elite Knight Armor set, Crest Shield, and Anri’s Straight Sword from the Shrine Handmaid after completing her subquest. The pilgrim will drop the Chameleon spell when killed, and the ending available with Anri’s storyline depends on the pilgrim’s status.
Anri’s Straight Sword has thrusting R2 attacks, HP regen, and Faith scaling for physical damage. Killing Horace may also be necessary to initiate the marriage ritual. In the Church of Yorshka, a pilgrim stalks Anri using the chameleon spell.
Completed Anri’s quest can alter the game’s outcome, as she is one of many characters that can be encountered during the adventure. The Twisted Wall of Light, sold by Orbeck of Vinheim after returning the item, is a valuable item for Anri’s story.

IF THE PILGRIM IS NOT IN THE DARKMOON TOMB FOR THE WEDDING CEREMONY, GO BACK TO YURIA AND EXHAUST …
Can you revive Anastacia?
This guide explains how to revive Anastacia, a character who has been slain in Anor Londo, by interacting with her corpse and using her Firekeeper Soul. This will reactivate Firelink’s bonfire and give Anastacia the ability to speak. If you talk to Anastacia after offering your first Lord Soul to the Lordvessel, she will permanently kindle the bonfire, giving you 20 Estus Flasks every time you rest at it. To join the Darkwraith Covenant, do not speak to Frampt while possessing the Lordvessel.
Can you summon anri for aldrich?
Anri, a summoned companion of the pilgrim, can assist in the Aldrich fight if he is alive and the pilgrim was killed before the Pontiff Sullyvahn fight. To continue the quest, find a summon sign next to a prism stone in Anor Londo, located in front of the golden cathedral doors. Touching this sign will transport you to Anri’s world, where you can fight Aldrich together. The fight can be repeated until you kill Aldrich together, and the death of Aldrich only happens in Anri’s world. After the quest, talk to Ludleth to return to Firelink and receive Anri’s Straight Sword. Anri can be found in two locations, depending on whether you informed them of Horace’s death.
Does marrying anri end the game?
The questline about marrying Anri is part of a secret ending in the game, which is often considered the canon ending. Anri is crucial for unlocking the “Usurpation of Fire” ending, where the player character becomes the Lord of Hollows. Yuria of Londor guides the player on this questline, who believes a lord needs a spouse. Anri and Horace the Hushed, accompanied by a silent companion, are searching for Aldrich. Their shared past deeply affects them, and they vow to always have each other’s back.
Can you marry Anri in Dark Souls 3?
In order to marry Anri, it is necessary to provide false information regarding the whereabouts of Horace, kill Horace in the Catacombs of Carthus, and allow the assassin to kill Anri. It is necessary to follow the storyline of Yuria until she guides the player to the Temple of the Darkmoon area.
Can you infuse Anri’s Straight Sword?
Anri’s stat is not infused but scales with luck. To boost Anri’s luck, one should obtain a dark sigil, at least 15 hollows, and hold two hollow gem weapons. This will boost the Anri straight sword’s luck scaling. Some suggest focusing on bleed for a luck build, but it’s unclear if this is the best approach. Anri’s sword can scale with luck up to 40, and it has the blessed effect HP regen and the ability to prevent white-eyed skels from reappearing. However, it’s unclear how to capitalize on a luck build.
Can you keep anri alive?
Anri’s story can end in various ways, all of which are bad. When you meet her in the Cathedral of Yorshka, there is a statue of a Pilgrim of Londor using a chameleon spell. He is following Anri to kill her to make her dark sigils an offering to you, the presumptive Lord of Hollows. If you kill the Pilgrim, Anri will live, but she will go full hollow and become insane, attacking you on sight. If you leave the Pilgrim alone, he will kill Anri and place her corpse in the old Darkmoon Tomb.
Your decisions towards the end of the game can result in a usurpation of the fire and your becoming the Lord of Hollows, but only if you allow Anri to die and assume her sigils. Anri was assassinated, but it is unclear if the Londor chap incapacitated her or if Anri, being an Undead, cannot truly die.
Who killed Anri of Astora?
The questline involves a player who must defeat Horace to save Anri from his death. If the player leaves Horace alive and informs Anri of his location, they will die by Horace’s hand. If the player defeats Horace and informs Anri, they will receive the Ring of the Evil Eye as a reward. If the player doesn’t encounter Horace or withholds information, they will leave the Catacombs and move on to the next part of the questline. If Anri doesn’t die in the Catacombs, they can encounter them in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley at the Church of Yorshka.
They can learn Quiet Resolve and receive the Ring of the Evil Eye if they leave without knowing about Horace’s fate. Anri’s questline can diverge depending on the action taken against the assassin hidden within the Church of Yorshka. If the assassin is killed, Anri will continue to the final phase, while Yuria’s questline will end.
Where is Anri’s body?
The corpse of Anri is located at the base of Anor Londo. To conclude the quest, it is necessary to accept the Vowal sword from the assassin and subsequently kill Anri with it.
What does Anri’s straight sword scale with?
Anri’s Straight Sword is a unique weapon that scales its attack power with the wielder’s Luck without requiring a Hollow infusion. It also has the auxiliary effects of a Blessed infusion, slowly restoring the wielder’s health over time and inflicting bonus damage against undead enemies. It prevents skeletons and Skeleton Swordsmen from reviving. The weapon regenerates a constant 2 HP per 2 seconds while equipped and inflicts 10 bonus damage against undead enemies.
Why do we stab anri?
The Temple of the Darkmoon’s wedding ceremony involves Anri, a character who is portrayed as dead and unable to receive power. Marrying Anri is part of a questline to unlock a secret ending, which many argue is the canon ending. Anri plays a crucial role in obtaining the “Usurpation of Fire” ending, which sees the player character becoming the Lord of Hollows. Yuria of Londor guides the player on this questline, who believes a lord needs a spouse and ropes Anri into the process.
Why does Anri’s gender change?
Dark Souls 3 allows players to create and customize their characters, including choosing their gender. Anri, the female character, is based on the player’s gender, while Anri is male if the player is playing a male character. In Japan, Anri is a unigender name that works for both genders. Fans of the Soulsborne series may recognize Anri’s voice, as she has previously voiced Vicar Amelia, Imposter Iosefka, and Sister Adella in Bloodborne.
Lucy Briggs-Owen, who previously voiced Vicar Amelia, Imposter Iosefka, and Sister Adella, has previously voiced several characters in Bloodborne. FromSoftware has had several voice actors from their previous games appear in recent titles, making it a treat to recognize their voice.

Dark Souls 3 Lore – Anri of Astora & Horace the Hushed I decided to go with female Anri voice clips in this video because I prefer …
About the pilgrim spontaneously dying, the reason she dies as well as the other guy that levels you up and makes you hollow, is because that’s what happens to them when they fulfil their duty. Their goal is to die by fulfilling a purpose usually by serving a lord. Hence why they both die after they do stuff for you successfully. You can tell by talking to the first one from undead settlement, he’s crying because he failed to die like the rest, and when you level up 5 times he’s happy and says “soon will all be clear” then the next time you see him he dies. And Yuri comes and she’s your friend for doing that. They have to die that’s their purpose or they fail. Sorry for the long rambling comment but maybe that clears it up.
This was the quest that really cemented that mood of “there are no good endings in dark souls” You either let her get assasinated, marry her corpse, then stab her face with a sword. Or you save her from an assassin, she then goes mad and you hack her to death like her friend. I remember at first when yuria mentions we are supposed to marry anri I thought “oh wow I guess that’s the true good ending of dark souls, sounds happy.” Boy was I wrong.
At the end of the Journey in Ringed City, I fell so lonely. I remember every nice guy I encounter. People in Fire Link is like true neighbors: Cold boy Hawkward, Best friend Greirat, Arrogant Eyrgon, Smartass Leonhard, Loyal Yuria and Yoel, Nice guy Orbeck. And they all died for my pointless goal. Sometimes I visit there place and realize that they are vanished forever. So once again, I start the NG+ for resurrection. Poor Ashen One, a damn pity soul as Hawk said.
Because I always go for the kill the fire ending in this game, both Anri and Horace dying in the smoldering lake is how their story ends for me, and theres something deeply saddening about the brightest sweetest chatacter duo in the game ending up dead in the deepest, darkest hidden pit in the game, in an area that looks like hell itself. Damn you Fromsoft …
So… If he get hollow and mad and after a very long mission dwelling in misery and pain (where he/she had to see his close friend dead) we kill him, he’ll have GOOD ending. If we marry he/she and he get to survive, as seen in the usurper of fire ending, presumably as a rightful spouse of the new ruler of the dark age, he’ll have a BAD ending. I fucking love the twisted morality of this game series so much!!!
Love the articles, most walkthroughs are a skipfest but the cutscenes over the dialogue make perusal the guides actually enjoyable. Hope you plan on doing the same when FromSoft releases Sekiro. Oh and it’s criminal that you only have 4.3k subscribers compared to the hot garbage that’s floating around YouTube
I like how you call the good ending bad and the bad ending good. In dark souls gods light and fire are bad and humanity and dark are good. This is assuming you think humans shouldn’t exist solely to serve the gods and dont want the world ruined over and over again by greedy gods who dont want to lose their power to humanity.
I found an alternate way to do this questline: in the very beginning of the game I killed the dude that lets you level up with the dark sigil, and the quest stayed the same up to the point where anri is on the bed. The doorway where the little guy is supped to be standing contains the little guy dead, and that is where you get chameleon. On the bed anri was already dead with the sword stabbed through her. I never met yuria either so that also might have to do with it
Maybe Horace knew he is turning hollow, thus ran away from Anri so he won’t harm him/her. Sadly, Horace’s company is what kept Anri going. Without Horace, Anri will inevitably turn hollow as well. In the Dark Souls world, you pretty much turn hollow when you no longer have a purpose (be it fulfilled or lost). So the best you can get is fulfilling your purpose and die with a clear conscience.
Fuck I was more focused on grey rat’s quest I forgot to do Anri’s first before I killed pontiff, sure it unlocks a new ending on marrying them. But still the Anri that we see at the end is not her/him anymore. It’s just a lowly hollow following you. The only difference is that Anri is your husband/wife
Anri’s isn’t at the lake for me wtf!? the only thing I did differently here was when I killed the statue back at the church and that women didn’t want to sell me anything again I killed her and gave her ashes to the hand maiden but yeah looks like the dude here didn’t say NOT TO KILL her … so I killed her like wtf bro be specific it’s called a walk through for a reason.
The second ending is the good ending. Either Anri goes hollow and depressed cause she has no purpose and Horace is dead, or she becomes the fucking queen of hollows forever. That’s dope. And she does survive the wedding because you see her in the usurpation of fire end cutscene. That’s a way better end for her
okay so what happened to me was I killed Horace and my friend told me I fucked up their quest if I killed him. I didn’t bother to look up because my friend claims he played ds3 many times so naturally I trusted him. I’m at the final boss and sister Friede is also waiting for me to beat her before the final one. I remembered I haven’t seen any summon signs during my playthrough. not ONE. I did a little searching and turns out I could’ve saved this quest if I did a research instead of just trusting my friend. Horace was supposed to die there. so, basically, I’m praying Anri is still in the Catacombs. she was. I talked to her and then she was in Yorshka’s church. unfortunately, the chameleon wasn’t there because my Yoel died too early so Yuria didn’t appear at all. to conclude, my Anri disappeared lol there’s too much stuff I’ve done without her like killing Aldrich. also, Ludleth is dead since I’m at the final boss and he’s not selling her sword. sadge. Edit: yall I found Chameleon on pilgrim’s corpse in front of the Gwyndolin hallway and Anri was dead at the end of the hallway with her sword on her!! the sword of Avowal is literally stabbed through her head 😭 I guess that’s a whole different ending
On my way to the smouldering lake i saw anri at the elevated side by the thin bridge. She was there before i killed horas the hushed. I talked to her and told her i didnt saw him yet cause i didnt. But then when i killed him and went back to talk to her she wasn’t there anymore. And i cant find her now. Where she stood there is just a pale blue light and you cant pick it up or hit it… what do i do?
I don’t get it, I’ve killed aldritch before starting this quest. Anri got to the church, but the double agent was not there. I left, for the aldritch thing to summon anri. I assumed it was like going to another world. But I can’t find the thing to summon anri. I’m so lost on what went wrong. Like what exactly so I know not to do for next time. It’s probably the boss I killed, but I want to know for certain.
Can someone PLEASE explain the marriage quest line to me? I’m lost. Yuria first says a fellow of hers guides anri at this moment (probably Horace) and he leaves anri and tries to KILL us. Then we’re supposed to marry and have a spouse, ok cool.. Then we find anri ?dead? In anor londo, and STAB HIM IN THE FACE WHY? WHAT DOES THAT DO? GUESS WE DON’T HAVE A SPOUSE ANYMORE. I. Don’t. Understand. Someone please explain this to me. PLEASE. Cause it makes ZERO sense.
my pilgrim sorcerer in firelink shrine is already dead without getting all 5 free levels (got only 1 free i think) but whos tf is that yuria ??? ! i always fully exploring shrine from time to time to see what’s new, but haven’t seen this lady !!! i found another sorcerer locked in dungeon cell but she uses forbidden magic as i remember … good for me i wasn’t focus on magic in my play-through … i have collected many magic books and i was wondering who should give them to, in order learn new spells lol
So here’s my problem. I’ve already completed anri’s questline before, but now that I’m at Aldrich, his summon sign is not there, although I did the quest right. What might’ve messed it up is that after talking to anri I killed Yhorm instead of going straight to Anor Londo, but I personally think that that’s not the case. (And yes the prism stones are there, only the sign is missing.) I checked everything, summon sign restrictions, matchmaking options, my internet connection, my connection to the ds servers, but everything seems fine and I dunno what to do. Now I know that this is not a new article, so me writing this could be pretty pointless, but please if someone sees this then please help me, because I’m at a loss.
In my opinion anri shouldn’t die but I got a different ending I don’t know how but found her dead body in Anor Londo When she asked me to seek Horace at the catacombs I came back to her before killing him and said I didn’t see him then I found the way down there and killed him then I met her at anor londo where the pilgrim is (I failed to Kill him first time I don’t know what happen xd) so I didn’t get the gesture from him after that I left the area and found her dead as I said above (Never fought her or sent an assassin to kill her (That’s triggered with Yuria’s Dialogue) Note: Never met yuria first time I hear about her today, although I played the game for 115H lool
My theory is that… Since undead go hollow when they lose purpose and their main goal…she will anyways, whatever you do. She’s bound to Horace by some sort, and if you tell her you seen him, she loses the will to fight, find Aldrich and fullfil their revenge. Same goes for helping her kill Aldritch. After all that, what is left for her to do/live for? She goes hollow. Correct me if I’m wrong. Aside from that I love her story, just like I did Solaire’s and Sigmeyer’s in first Dark Souls. DS2 didn’t have that much interesting lore among NPCs, glad to see they pushed it forward in DS 3. Really nice article, earned a sub man. 🙂
as per timelines go, I believe yohrm was the oldest and then followed by the abyss watchers and then aldrich and finally lothric. based upon the the living evidence in the game, aldrich has a lot of alive followers and his world seems to be still in order compared to the other. watchers world has fewer followers and the land is swamp filled but not completely ruined. whereas mostly the profaned capital is forgotten and only evidence outside is that of profaned greatsword that pontiff has which he found under iryhtill. finally it’s quite evident that lothric didn’t die at all. I’d love to hear what you guys think.
5:52 Interesting fact: In my first run of the game, I knew of the existence of the pilgrim since I watched another article about it before hand, I got Anri up to this point, not following the Lord of Hollows ending – but the thing is, the Pilgrim was not in the room, but Anri was still assinated and I found them later in. Not sure what I did exactly, but just something that happened
Interestingly enough, in the cemetery outside the Cathedral of the Deep, up on the hillside right above the pit where we find Executioner’s Greatsword, we also find the Astora Greatsword. So it seems that perhaps this cemetary itself was either a part of Astora or indeed that is where both Horace and Anri are “revived” to fight their eternal battle against Aldritch. After all we first meet the two at the Halfway Fortress bonfire, just down the road from the cemetary, past the Crystal Sage’s abode and the Crucifixion Woods. It’s possible Anri and Horace woke up somewhere further away as it’s clear that the cemetery goes on for miles, much further than what we can actually walk through, and then continued down the road until… Well, until their met by the Unkindled One.
I like to think that Anri and Horace had a previous epic showdown with Aldritch in the First Kiln, maybe they led Aldritch there, maybe they were part of a previous plot to lure him there, idk. But then all three of them got consumed by the first flame. Anri and Horus were unfit to link the flame, but Aldritch was acceptable. Then when the bell tolled, all of them were revived at the same time, which is why Anri and Horus didnt know where Aldritch had gone.
My theory on Anhri going hollow after helping her kill Aldrich, is that of course she went looking for Horace in the Smoldering Lake. She later found the body of hollowed Horace, but she/he was expecting him to be alive. Anhri found the corpse after the player character killed him, and Anhri sets up a sort of grave or memorial to him, evident by the lleyewin(?) (I don’t know how to spell it) shield and the red hilted halberd now set up, (Horace’s choice weapon and shield) where hollowed Anhri is looking (sometimes, along with the memorial, a prism stone, the stones Ahnri used to guide Horace back together, evident by his/her dialogue in the catacombs, is placed as a sort of replacement for flowers.) At first, Ahnri’s main goal was to kill Aldrich, but after losing Horace, she/he then had another objective, which kept her unhollowed, until she found her old friend in the smoldering lake. After she/he found Horace, and mourned for him, Ahnri completed his/her objective and had nothing
Thanks you for bringing up that all of the unkindled seem to have been revived to kill a specific lord of cinder. It was one of the first things I noticed doing the quest lines in this game. It makes me think that we, the player character, have some sort of connection to Lothric but there is no real evidence pointing to the player having any sort of back story that I can find. Perhaps we attempted to link the fire because Prince Lothric would not and now we are back to finish the job. Just speculation but I do feel the game heavily implies that each unkindled was brought back for a very specific reason.
You have done a really great article ! The fact that only “lords connected unkindled” are resurecting from their ashes make me think about what are we (in the game). If Anri is linked with Aldrich, Siegwart with Yhorm and Hawkwood with the Abyss Watchers it is possible that we can be the undead that Soul of Cinder burns in the trailer of DS3. Anri was one on many undead bring to Aldrich (Evangelist Set and Aldrich Soul) from the undead settlement. I think Anri has another relation with Aldrich, stronger than the other undead and this can be her links with the noble Astorian familly. —– HIGHLY SPECULATIONS —– (no concrete evidences) We know that Aldrich was once before in the Cathedral of the Deep, executing Sulyvahn’s orders. Near the cathedral, in the grave outside we can find the Astora Greatsword in a corpse, an hollow praying at it. It is possible that before the reign of Sulyvahn, the Cathedral was the home of many Astorians. Failing to defend the city and the cathedral from the “Evil Eyed creature”, Sulyvahn orders the massacre of all Astorians, prisonning the old king and becoming the Pontif they all feared (from Sulyvahn’s soul) orienting the research on the Deep and let the survivors become hollow near the Cathedral. The undead Anri was burned to feed the fire when Aldrich needed it. Times have passed and Aldrich has even feed the fire to become Lord of Cinder. But now the bells toned and the unkindled Anri’s come again through the road of sacrifice to claim Aldrich Souls.
Horace had his tongue cut out by the cathedral before he and Anri were to be fed to alderich before they escaped to Astora. Anri’s armor is there or not depending on the gender of the character Anri most likely was born close to the cathedreal and was taken with her parents, or even given up by her parents as a way to spare their own lives, but was told of astora and knew it was far enough away that alderich couldn’t get to her. What could have happened was that this happened during DS1 or even DS2 before alderich was made a lord of cinder and was simply a higher up in the cathedral at the time who was already eating other people. this would mean that the elite knights would have been there to inspire Anri more on, and she may have even been taken in by the noble who’s sword she wields after his death and very much so hers as she would awaken clad in the elite knight armor with the sword, most likely training the entire time with Horace to get revenge on alderich. on a side note, there is one more elite knight in DS3, one that we know nothing about other than, they are left dead at a basin in the graves, with the ashen estus flask, another knight in elite knight armor. This could be just a throw back to DS1 with oscar giving us the estus flask, but I belive that this could well be another knight that came with Anri and Horace, either to guide them, or to watch over their graves outside the firelink shrine (Since we don’t know where their adventure starts) This knight could also be the elite knight who is the same gender as the player and perhaps this could mean (In pure speculation) That there was two people called Anri, male and female.
My idea is that Anri and Horace were orphans, captured by Aldrich before he was a Lord of Cinder. They escaped him, then he turned into blob-man, became a Lord of Cinder, refused to link the flame, then when he was returned to life Anri and Horace were resurrected so that Aldrich’s hunger would be satiated. The fact that those two escaped would likely make them desirable to him and intrinsically linked to his purpose. Only issue with this idea is that if Anri and Horace were really a “vengeant delicacy” for Aldrich, it would seem that he would await their return in the Cathedral prior to heading to Anor Londo.
does anyone else think that ludlith linked the flame after the twin princes defeated the soul of cinder because it makes sense if you think about it Ludlith isn’t strong enough to defeat the soul but he is strong enough to link the flame and delay the age of darkness a little bit until someone else comes after him to link it and in the early dark souls 3 version the high wall of lothric was named high wall of ludlith plus he is the only lord to return to his throne because feels that’s the way to help the chosen undead ( that’s you) to elongate the age of fire
The lore has always intrigued me, oh what vast webs does Miyazaki weave. Some of the stories are down right depressing and others sound so very foolish. But the one question that has always burned into my thoughts in Dark Souls, who or what started the the hollowing? Was it the Abyss? Was it Manus, or perhaps everyone’s favorite fool Artorias? WTF is the firekeeper doing pointing that black shit in her eyes in the beginning of the intro? (Yeah if you watch carefully in the intro scene with bloody hands she picks up the crown to cover her eyes with swirling dark mass in the middle and then she drags a corpse off to where ever. I believe it is the dead firekeeper on the top of the shrine, shy do you think she gets freaked out about you finding the soul, then composes herself and then tries to say it was her sister. My theory is the firekeeper than went into the Abyss is our beloved firekeep.) She is not the real fire keeper. This is why her hands are bloody. That is why she is happy to end the flames? The biggest crap tastics part of the story line that no one ever touches is you are literally are just a tool, you have no choice but to be the tragic hero. Kind of like Batman. Heheehehehehehhhahahahaha
Add to her connection with Anri and the pilgrim, Anri’s party probably need any power their could get in order to defeat Aldrich so they made the deal with the pilgrim. The place where Anri ended up at the cathedral could be grave of other children. I also see the pattern between lord and unkindle, maybe our PC are not just anybody like previous games but rather someone who had connection with Lothric (kingdom).maybe you only suppose to correct Lothric’s cinder but manipulated by Emma to buy Lothric sometime for him to change his mind. “You will not find the Lords of Cinder here. They have left, gone.” Ludleth also said “She knoweth her faith. What will become of her upon her duty’s end.”
I think Anri and Horace were buried in the graveyard outside the cleansing chapel. Once resurrected via the bell they found the astora and execution sets but left the some of the original owner’s weapons, namely the executioner’s greatsword and the astora greatsword which are found in that same graveyard.
I think it is possible that the Pilgrim from Yuria had the same abilities as Yhoel and gave Anri and Horace Dark Sigils for us to absorb. However it would imply, that they met the Pilgrim before we meet them – maybe we weren’t the only one who Yuria tried to win for her cause. Perhaps Anri and Horace just stopped accepting the Sigils once they realised what is happening to them, which would explain why Anri gives us 3 Sigils and not 5 – so Yuria had to rely on us. But even if we don’t accept Yhoels 5 Dark Sigils, Anri still ends up in the Tomb with a Sword in her head. Looks like Yuria found someone else for the job.
Perhaps Horace is a reference to Horus; the Egyptian God of the sun who was also the God of Kings. Many who would be king associated themselves with Horus and often took that name upon coronation. Interesting when you consider how Anri and Horace are integral to the Usurper ending. Perhaps Horace intended to Usurp the flame himself and took the name of a sun god. Also; I think the real reason Anri is from Astora is as a reference to Oscar of Astora’s cut content from dark souls 1. Anri and Oscar have the same character model. Anri is always the opposite gender of the player, where as Oscar was originally meant to take the opposing path from the player. If you chose to link the flame he would stand against you, and if you chose to become the dark lord he would try to link the flame himself.
im really disappointed all 3 of the lords sidequest characters die at the end of there quest imagine if you did all there sidequests and then went to face the soul of cinder they would havshown up behind you like siegwarde does for yhorm, you helped them fight there lords and now they shall help you bring down yours this would have especially been nice if the soul of cinder had some obvious solair influence as if he survives he links the fire, im sure he would be proud of us for our jolly cooperation
0:27 A peculiar fellow comes up to you and your travelling companion. He hears you out but doesn’t say a single word, never even changes his facial expression and doesn’t blink. Pulls out a pair of binoculars and starts scanning you top to bottom, stopping at your feet for a second. Holsters his pair of binoculars. Comes up to your travelling companion. Pulls out a pair of binoculars and starts scanning him top to bottom. Leaves.
I had a thought when you were talking about how you can see horace from where anri is. What if horace fell? hit the ground so hard he hollowed out immediately, then and there. And at that point, anri was already losing it to one degree or another, so it makes sense she wouldn’t notice. She may well have just been trudging along, hoping horace would be in her path. Instead of the original assumption of just going crazy, like many players believed at first, isn’t it possible he simply went hollow as a result of the drop? It explains horace’s presence down there, so far out of the way of his original goal, and why he suddenly disappears and goes crazy.
I’ve always just assumed the Elite Knight set in the first game only reminds the chosen undead of Oscar. So the armor in Dark Root may not belong to Oscar, but he’s the only prominent figure who wore it in our presence. That does bring into question how much of the item descriptions are thought up by the protagonists though.
lifehunt scythe steals hp and the description of the ring of the evil eye in dks2 says if you look too close, things that write and stir may come into focus. could aldrich be the beast that ravaged astora? also, the rings that pontiff gave his knights caused those who looked into the black orb upon them to be lured into battles of death, transformed into frenzied beasts. food for thought
Any idea came to mind about Anri, and the kingdom of Astoria, what if this evil eye creature was smilier to the Sulyvahn’s Beast and the Deep Accursed (creatures I believe Aldrich turned into before he become a big worm, then want after Gwyndolin). It’s soul lost, but it’s rage and memories still remained, effecting Aldrich, turning him into a man eater, and sending out his followers like Seath’s websiteers, addicting women, but perhaps the residents of Astoria. Taking control of Anor Lando, the blades of the Darkmoon, or what remained of it, could have saved them after invaders where dispatched to recapture them, years later, they could not take their revenge on Aldrich because he became a lord of cinder, and linked the fire, they probably become unkindled because it was their only way, if he should arise, then they would too.
I think i might know where anri got her armor and why ricard is naked when he’s summoned in archdragon peak based on the following evidence: 1. in dark souls 1 ricard wears the elite knight set 2. in dark souls 3 anri wears the elite knight set and ricard is naked 3. anris armor says that “perhaps it was such a dream that drew Anri to this faraway home known only by name.” which i think means that she had never been to astora herself. based on this i think its possible that ricard gave anri his armor. what do you think?
I’m going to guess that yeah maybe a few decades passed after the awakening of Aldrich and the other Lords Of Cinder. because by the time The Ashen One wakes, all the bosses are settled in their new residences, and everyone seems to know about stuff except YOU. we just woke up a little later than the others
will you do a lore article on Sirris. Also how do feel about the confirmation about Creighton being a mass murderer ? whether or not he’s a better person than pate is still up in the air. ps. Creighton is alive and well during Dark Souls III does that mean it’s pretty much confirmed he managed to kill Pate like how lucatiel’s mask confirm that we help her out
A little sad detail: if you kill Horace in the lake, and then tell Anri of his position, then kill the pilgrim to protect Anri, then help Anri with Aldrich and THEN get back to the lake where Horace was… You will find Anri in there. She will be armed with a Dagger. Because she gave away her sword to that legless little lord to give it to you. But that’s not what i’m talking about. There, in the lake…. You will find a grave, made by Anri. It’s a pile of stones with Horace’s halberd and shield sticking out of it. In the very end… She did find a closure to her story. For everything.
If Anri and Horace are from another timeline (like Solaire) then she/he is very persistent and strong. Because we meet “them” AFTER Sulyvahn so Anri defeated Sulyvahn without Horace. Well, they could have called a phantom for help but we don´t know for sure. If they defeated Sulyvahn out of sheer persistence then they deserve a medal.
Always bothered me how the summon sign to aid Anri against Aldrich is outside AL, accessible before you even enter the cathedral. It kind of ruins the surprise when you encounter Aldrich, I thought one of the highlights of the game was entering the boss chamber and seeing Gwyndolin, the boss name, and being all “DAFUQ IS THIS?? GWYNDOLIN WAT DID YOU DO THIS TIME”. I guess it’s possible to just miss the sign, or likely that one fails the questline the first playthrough (not finding the pilgrim assassin), but still. Since you’d have to fight Aldrich twice anyway, I guess I’d just preferred if the sign appeared inside the boss chamber after you beat it or something.
Hey Silver Mont do you think that Dark Souls 3’s Lore is a little too much fan service? It seems that the games immediate story is trying to branch off down it’s own path similar to how DS2 focused on the curse but the lore being too heavily influenced by DS seems to be pulling it down from that. It’s like playing a great game but constantly getting an add pop up in the corner of the screen saying “Hey if you like this then you’ll LOVE the other one!” and it just leaves an annoying thought in the back of your mind that you’re not getting enough new information because it wants to keep you informed about stuff you already know. I just want to know what you think of this and whether or not you think it is a detriment to this game?
yhorm and seigward, anri/horace and aldrich, hawkwood and the abyss watchers, and unknown soul and the princes, but…we know the soul of cinder is a “fusion” of someone who has linked the fires soul and Gwyn’s, but who was that person? could it be that when our character from DS1 linked that fire, their soul was fused with gwyns? and their body buried elswhere? is our character in Dark Souls 3 the “same person” as dark souls 1? you could argue against it by pointing out the 2 endings for DS1, but even though 2 would happen no matter what, is it to far of a stretch to say that that is the reason you where awoken as an unkindled, and cannot hollow…is this our emotional tie to the Soul of Cinder…?
anri sounds alot more feminine than masculine. anyway, so if orbeck of vinheim supposedly will claim the mantle of lord of hollows which kind of sounds like bullshit as he is only ever concerned with obtaining spells, who is to be his bride if the player character is female? the thing that would point to orbecks suspicion in my opinion is the location you find him in which is quite full of hollows. although it seems like he was set up there perhaps he was just dungeon diving. considering the location still very suspicious.
OK something that’s bugging the shit out of me what is the difference between Unkindeled and Hallowed and undead curses or what ever they are called. Like why is being unkindeled worst than being a cursed undead that goes hallowed ? Cause what I can tell unkindled are like undead except they don’t go the whole ugly and insane route when they die. P.S. Fuck Aldrich for eating Gwyndolin.
Hmmmm…. If the unkindled are ones that rise with a relation to the lords of cinder, then that begs the question. What is YOUR relation to the lords? As far as I know, lothric lacks a paired unkindled. There is also the ring by the queen on the grave that mirrors your point of resurrection. Hmmmm….
