The Skyrim Master Destruction Spells Guide 2023 explains that the Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, and Master Destruction classes reduce the mana cost of Destruction spells of the same rank by half. These spells are essential for leveling Destruction in the game, as it is slow using only one skill level. Master Destruction spells are a fast way to level up after getting the Destruction skill promoted to Legendary, granting an increase from 2 to 3 levels per spell.
The quest for Master Destruction spells requires a skill level of 90, but Faralda’s opening dialogue requires a level of 100, which is inconsistent with the quest and other master level quests. The most powerful Skyrim Destruction spells are not all higher mastery levels, and some can be cast right out of the gate.
To unlock Master Destruction spells, the “Destruction Ritual Spell” must be completed upon reaching level 100 Destruction. After reading the book, you can unlock Fire Storm and then go back to Faralda to buy the other two master level spells.
Master level spell tomes require the appropriate ritual spell quest to be completed. Expert Destruction spells can be purchased from Faralda in the College of Winterhold, and higher spells are purchasable once. The three master-level Destruction spells included in the base version of Skyrim are a bit underwhelming, with Fire Storm, Blizzard, and Lightning being the most useful.
