QAnon is a conspiracy theory that originated in forum posts on the website 4chan in October 2017. It claims that President Trump is waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshippers. The theory, which began as a claim that Trump and Robert Mueller were saving the world from cannibal pedophiles, has spread false information about various social and political issues, including the Black community.
The QAnon movement, a decentralized, far-right political movement, emerged on the internet in late 2017, with followers claiming a variety of different beliefs. President Trump, viewed as a hero by the movement, has stopped short of endorsing the conspiracy theory but has described QAnon activists as “… Pizzagate and its progeny QAnon are two conspiracy theories with a growing number of believers worldwide. QAnon is the umbrella term for a sprawling spiderweb of right-wing internet conspiracy theories with antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ elements.
The QAnon conspiracy theory has its tentacles in everything, spreading false information about a variety of real social and political issues, including the Black community. It has been linked to several crimes and helped fuel the January 6 insurrection on the US Capitol.
