Remember when Julius saved everyone in the clover kingdom from Patry’s Light Magic with his time magic? And remember how the magic that attacked the hidden elf village? Didn’t it look familiar to Patry’s Light magic? And there was something like a time ring around it. My theory is that Julius somehow sent Patry’s Light magic back in time when the elfs were attacked. Meaning Patry killed himself and the other elfs
One thing that seems very important is that one of the flashback panels that Julius remembers before transforming is when he learned that there can be 2 souls in 1 body with Patri. Julius is clearly terrified at the thought. Most likely, Julius is a separate soul from Lucius and may be Astaroth. Astaroth could have left the underworld and “became human” somehow
One thing I can kinda put into this is i remember when Julius found the first wizard King magic capsule and Julius did say he put his magic into from where first started as a kid and thats how we got the chibi king. But what I think when he passed away I think it kinda triggered the Lucius side of his mind. And that is why he feels an uneasy feeling cause he mightve mess up and release the devil in him
My own theory is Juluis isn’t even a person he is a puppet made by Lucius’ brain/soul magic. That he was made to be a good guy that has an obsession with magic (a way to get him to search for dark and world tree magic) and that once his mission was completed the puppet (Juluis) is basically not needed anymore
perhaps lucis use his time magic to create a new personality that would come out after a certain time, this would explain the “times up” line and would also explain julius’ sense of legitimate heroism as he could just be made to believe he is the hero he tries to be throughout the story but those memories and julius as a whole was an elaborate disguise so that lucius could dissapear without a trace and only re appear after his time came.
Julius is just a persona That luicius made probably through the manipulation of his own mind. That would explain why Julius had his own internal monologues and Truly wanted to protect the people as wizard king and the 4th zogratis was just perusal and sometimes manipulating Julius to take Certain actions in the world that lead to this moment but let him have his free will for the most part.
I think Lucius Zogratis original magic attribute is soul manipulation and he made a contract with Astaroth for time manipulation. He then used soul magic to create Julius and sort of slept the entire time waiting for an anomaly in the magic world of Clover. What I’m saying is, Lucius wanted power and to reshape the world in his image, Astaroth wants to rule Hell so that’s how their interests are aligned. They both needed to remove Lucifero out of the equation and steal his devil heart which oozed with unbridled power. This entire time, Lucius waited for something or someone to finish Lucifero and that someone was Asta. Someone else had the theory that the events of Clover are preordained by Lucius as in whenever Asta almost died, time reversed because Lucius intended it to be. Lucius orchestrated the Elven Reincarnation, the Dark Triad and the arrival of Lucifero, and he made sure that Asta would be strong enough to kill the King of Devils just so he can claim the heart. Asta is a pawn but he’s also the only threat to Lucius, so now he has to remove Asta from the equation because Anti Magic is the only threat to the Wizard King. Lucius Zogratis borrowing a move from Dr. Strange, if the theory is correct then chances are he had been messing with the timeline at least a billion times over which is why he knows everything will happen the way he wants it to which is why Julius never had to get his hands dirty, all he needed was a rational excuse to fool everyone into thinking that Kid Julius is depowered because if he went into battle, Lucius might be exposed.
Julius kind of gives me Homura Akemi vibes. His magic is time-based, so perhaps he was turning time back over and over again to try and save the Clover Kingdom hence why he knew there were very specific outcomes of what could happen to Asta since he has seen them all before, and now he wants to be put down by Asta so the demon within him cannot kill those he loves, and so he can ensure that Asta is strong and capable enough to be the Wizard King the Clover Kingdom needs someday.
Anybody that has really been reading black clover remembers when everybody said 2 or 3 years ago that Julius was a devil host or evil because he used transformation magic. Some people thought he was an angel, but then people started to look at the devils of the underworld and astaroth was missing. Literally right after we found out about the missing 4th sibling zenon and Julius looked a lot alike ton the point people colored Julius hair black and they looked like siblings. I was surprised because I doubted we’d get another bad guy in sheep clothing in this series
Even tho I haven’t watch most of this article yet, it all make sense now, why Julius/Lucius is so intrigued of the captains/members fighting each other or showing their true strength to enemies, he is learning their capabilities and how strong is their true strength is, for the spade and clover kingdom war.
Not sure if anyone has hit on this yet but I just read that the six pointed star, the symbol on Julius’s head, in symbology is used to “symbolize the union of opposites” and is the symbolic epitome of “as above, so below”. Also seen as a symbol of divine worship, and commonly used both as a talisman and for conjuring spirits and spiritual forces in diverse forms of occult magic. If that was Tabata’s intention then that’s some pretty interesting foreshadowing lol
I know this may be crazy, but I made the Elfen Clover theory by comparing these three possible personalities in a body in Black Clover to Lucy/Kaede from the manga version of Elfen Lied. My Elfen Clover theory suggests Lucius did a contract with Astaroth and created the Julius persona for his and his siblings goal to reform the world with magic. Though Lucius, not wanting to use force as much as possible for some reason, decided to use his wits instead. Why reform with magic? I guess it was because these four saw the world as messed up with discrimination especially with magic, so they made that goal or something. A noble cause, but with a rather terrible way of doing it: by conquering lands and territory. And why the Lucy/Kaede comparison? Because that’s how she wanted to get along with humans being a Diclonius queen; through split personalities. Here are my three possible personalities for Lucius Zogratis with the comparison to each personality of Lucy/Kaede. Lucius Zogratis (Lucy/Kaede): The main personality. World-weary and with a goal to reform people with powers, with force or not. Even seeks out help from their own kin (siblings conquering lands and silpelit Diclonius spreading their virus). Deep down, like Lucy, Luci (pun intended) probably wants the best for others and himself so he uses those assets of his kin, but he also needs help. From a devil. And this is where Astaroth enters. Astaroth (DNA Voice): Now, DNA Voice is the evil instinct of Lucy, telling her to destroy humans.
watch Astaroth did a complete demon possession on Lucius and his plans were set in motion when he first brought the idea of making his sibilings or Lucius sibilings to become devil hosts. Maybe Julius is a byproduct of the original Lucius where his good side has split from him using his body transmutation magic along with the time magic. and made the Julius we know today. why he always knew he was special but didn’t know exactly why. that could hint to why he has two spades one upside down representing rebirth (Julius) and the other representing death (Lucius)
Considering the trend of the Dark Triad’s abilities, bone magic, blood magic, and body magic, the Lucius’s power is probably something along the lines of brain (or soul) magic. Lucius probably used his brain magic to make an alternate personality in the form of Julius to infiltrate the Clover Kingdom.
I have a big theory. What if this goes beyond just transformation or memory manipulation? I suggest a spell that meddles with time to such an extent that it creates creates an alternate time where key events are changed. Then like a save file you can log back into, brings you to the desired point to strike.
Basically the reason behind party attacking julius out of all people would make sense. Elves have the highest mana and ties to nature itself. Maybe being an Elf, Patry knew that the person behind the elves demise was living inside of Julius it seems and really could sense it. That could also be why William was forgiven for his crimes.
I’ve been thinking about it, why certain events happened and some wins of this arc felt so smoothly, it’s because time was being altered or reset to get what was considered the perfect ending technically for both sides cause our new main villain probably has not interference now since his siblings are dead and their devils are gone
But when you think about it, all the signs were there in the fight with patry. We believed Julius didn’t want to kill patry because his body hosted William, but in actuality he needed William to open the gates to the underworld. Just like he recruited Yami that day since he needed dark magic and always gave the two special treatment. They were literal cattle from day one. Also his fascination with Asta from the beginning and his knowledge and curiosity on how the anti magic could work. I believe he needed Asta to obtain luciferos heart. My theory is that Lucius wants to create union between royals and commenors by deleting the upper class, which will make for an interesting clash of ideals with how Asta wants to do things
Hi, I read black clover and really enjoy it but I’m by no means an expert, so apologies if this is a dumb theory/idea. Whether Julius is good or not: they needed Vengeance and Yami to open the gate; neither would be magic knights if not for Julius, let alone captains. Julius picked them up and nurtured/mentored them to become the arcane mages that the dark triad needed to open the gates. Then, he also nurtured and mentored Asta and Yuno, who had the potential to kick lucifero’s ass, so the other dude could steel his heart for himself. It feels like he set the scene for the spade arc to happen (whether consciously or not that’s the question). Someone else already mentioned in the comments that it seems like it’s different from Vengeance/Patri, who were two different people entirely. Without more info it’s hard to speculate, but Julius reaction kind of reminded me of Reiner from AoT: could it be that Lucius came into another kingdom as an undercover agent, and blended in – so well that at some point started to believe he was indeed Julius and developed a split personality without knowing, with Julius being dominant and totally forgetting about Lucius. Now, having the objectives been met, the original persona (Lucius) takes over – that could also explain why Julius was feeling increasingly uneasy (and he had been so since they left for the spade kingdom I think, sorry can’t say the chapter): as closer it was to the final aim, the more it started to stir within him; something isn’t right, something is missing, etc.
Mind magic is my bet for lucius, given he touched domnotios head instead of freezing him in a bubble, i think that julius was more or less just a spell that creates another mind and appearance for lucius, like an autopilot, lucius being the one really in control though and manipulating julius subtly, like making him obsessed with magic in order to pass of him searching for quliphoth mages as simple curiosity, as well as insisting yami and william join the magic knights to keep an eye on them.
Lucius may be the reason why no one died during the fight vs Lucifero. In order for him to obtain Lucifero’s heart was by defeating him, but in the original timeline they were defeated and they all died causing Lucius to not be able to gain his heart. In order for him to gain his heart, Lucius reversed time multiple times in order to find a timeline for the characters to win.
I think the 4th Zogratis needed an able body in order to become a devil host, I remember he used to be wheelchair bound. Whatever magic he originally possessed may have let him take over Julius’ body, and manifest when a trigger word(s) is spoken into him, then take on Astaroth in order to become his host. If this is the case, we don’t know Julius connection to the spade kingdom, what his original magic is, or what Lucius original magic is.
I think Marx is working with Lucius. As with his mind magic, potentially powered up by Demon magic. Was able to create the split personality that we know and love that is Julious. To help infiltrate the Clover kingdom with the constant desire to be wizard king with Marx helping him ensure he remains on their goals.
It hurts me to think that he was created, that amusing personality was created. I’d like to go with there is actually the Julius we’ve known but he made some sort of contact with Lucius Zogratis with an after-effect like you will forget about all this or something. Man i really like his character. The only sad thing was he looked like he got nerf so much i couldn’t see how the author will show us his true essence. But then..here we go..fucking brilliant!
in my opinion the coolest theroy that is out there rn is the one that sais asta died multible times during his fight against lucifero because during the fight lucifero always looked at that clock so maybe everytime asta died astaroth manipulated the time line and everytime that happend lucifero looked at the clock to confirm it it would also explain why he was so annoyed with asta sure partially because he wounded him but maybe because everytime he killed asta he just got “revived” due to astaroth’s time manipulation and what is more annoying then fighting an undying opponent and at the same time losing your enegry and time during the fight against him

I think lucius had his entire memory when he was acting as the wizard king and hinted it a lot vs patry ( IM different ) And his magic interest was an act to find the one he need . But he could’nt afford killing patry because he would also kill vangeance and he needed vangeance for the tree! SO he decided to let himself get kill knowing damn well he will resurect and then use his power to manipulate his memory . He return as a kid without much power and was genuinely good . But the kid realize who julius was and he was a bad guy all along . This is why is grimoire was back as soon as lucius showed up ! He never lost his power ! He created a fake and weaker personality kid julius . But the julius we know since the beginning until he was revert as a Kid was a bad guy all along .
