Alexander Emerick Jones, an American far-right radio show host and conspiracy theorist, has been found liable for falsehoods and provocations he promoted following the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. Jones’ Infowars media company, which spread lies about the incident, is set to be auctioned off in auctions this fall to help pay over $1 billion owed to the families of the victims. The jury awarded $965 million in compensatory damages to Sandy Hook families and an FBI agent who sued conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
Jones, who has pushed many conspiracy theories over the last three decades, has been banned from Twitter, now X, but its owner has reinstated him. After years of public pressure, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was largely barred from the world’s largest social media platforms. He has asked a judge to convert his bankruptcy to a liquidation to start paying some of the nearly $1.5 billion in damages he owes the Sandy Hook families.
The Texas judge approved converting Jones’s proposed bankruptcy reorganization to a liquidation, but has yet to rule on the parent company. Jones’ Infowars media business can be auctioned off starting next month to help pay the more than $1 billion owed to Sandy Hook families.
In summary, Alex Jones, a far-right conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars, is facing a reckoning after being ordered to pay $1.5 billion in damages to the families of the Sandy Hook victims.
