Why Are Hurricanes Occurring So Frequently?

Studies of Atlantic storms since 1980 show that hurricanes formed there tend to be stronger than in the past. However, a new statistical analysis of historical records and satellite data suggests that there aren’t actually more Atlantic hurricanes now than there were roughly 150. Hurricanes do form in the Pacific Ocean, just as they do in the Atlantic, but none of these storms seem to reach the continental U.S.
