In Elden Ring, spells can only be cast while on horseback using main-hand weapons. To switch the active hand, use interact+light attack of whichever hand you want to use. On Xbox, it’s Y+LB or RB. To cast magic spells, sorcery spells, and incantations, equip your seal in your left or right hand.
To cast spells on a horse in Elden Ring, equip your seal in your left hand. Hold your action button and use left hand attack to switch it to your right hand. This mod allows you to cast right-handed spells while on horseback, and it also adds a spell to summon a horse to ride or help you fight. Riding the summon horse will dismiss the spell.
Spells can only be cast when your catalyst is equipped on your right hand, but if placed on your left hand, you can dual wield it to cast. Spells can be cast from horseback when the horse is standing still, walking, or running, but not when the horse is sprinting. However, you can cast a continuous spell such as flames and then sprint. Only spells cast from the right hand will work. Spells cast from staves will not.
On horseback, you can only use your main-hand weapons. Some videos suggest that spells can be cast while on horseback, but this is not possible. A spell cannot be cast from the back of a galloping horse under any conditions, nor can a wizard or priest cast a spell on the deck of a ship during a storm.
Up to expert level, spell casting should not be a problem. The PHB (p. 157) states that you can cast a spell normally if your mount moves up to a normal move (its speed) either before or after you cast.
