Good Omens Season 2, the second season of Amazon’s Prime Video adaptation of Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett’s “Good Omens”, is a full-blown love story that has been awaited for two years due to its departure from the original source material. The six-episode season hit Prime Video on July 28 and features a heartbreaking ending that goes beyond Neil Gaiman’s original source material. The third episode of the series starts with the longest cold open in the series, as both queer and straight people are asking for more queer relationships after decades of only having straight romances.
The season 2 ends with a big moment for David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s characters, making it heartbreaking. The timeline in season 1 bounced between the beginning of time and the apocalypse that never was, while season 2 took a little more time going through the moments in the past. The ending of Season 2 is breaking fans’ hearts across the internet, and it makes sense why it took four years for Good Omens Season 2 to land on our screens.
The story acknowledges this gap and the characters discuss the pandemic and how it has affected the characters. Gabriel is cast out of heaven in season 2 because he refuses to participate in another war with hell, leading to another Armageddon. The novel only covers the events shown in Good Omens season 1, so the crew behind the TV series needed more time to create an original story with Aziraphale and Crowley that can also separate itself from the events of the first season.
Neil Gaiman is taking time to develop Good Omens season 3, focusing on maintaining quality and avoiding a rushed ending. The pace is slow and the plot is meandering up until the sixth episode. Possible changes to Good Omens could be in the works in the wake of sexual assault allegations against creator Neil Gaiman.
