Hieroglyphic writing is a system that uses characters in the form of pictures, which can be read as pictures, symbols for objects, or symbols for sounds. The term “hieroglyphic” originates from the Greek word for “sacred carving” and was first used in the writings of Diodorus Siculus (1st century BC). The Greeks distinguished hieroglyphic from other forms of Egyptian writing, such as the hieratic and demotic scripts.
Hieroglyphic is primarily used for writing on Egyptian monuments, but it has been applied to other peoples’ writing since the late 19th century, including monumental inscriptions of the Indus civilization and Hittites, as well as Mayan, Incan, and Easter Island writing forms and signs on the Phaistos Disk on Crete. What is the mystical star symbol?
The pentagram is a five-pointed star symbol with a continuous line of five straight segments, often used in magic or the occult. It has various meanings, including protection, perfection, the Devil, and humanity. The golden ratio of the pentagram segments makes it aesthetically pleasing. The pentagram has been used for thousands of years, appearing in tombs, seals, and coins in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Greece. It was a symbol of Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras and his disciples, possibly as a way for followers to recognize each other.
Some sources suggest that the Pythagoreans regarded it as a symbol of health and knowledge. Pentagrams may have been used to ward off evil, as seen in pottery from the ancient kingdom of Judaea. In the Middle Ages, pentagrams were used as symbols of the five knightly virtues, such as loyalty, kindness, and protection against witches, evil spirits, and demons.
What are called symbols?
A symbol is a mark, sign, or word that signifies, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. All communication and data processing are achieved through the use of symbols, which can take the form of words, sounds, gestures, ideas, or visual images. Examples of symbols include a red octagon for “STOP”, blue lines for rivers, and a red rose for love and compassion.
The academic study of symbols is semiotics, and in cartography, an organized collection of symbols forms a legend for a map. The word symbol derives from the late Middle French masculine noun symbole, which appeared around 1380 in a theological sense. It later became a maxim or external sign of a sacrament, but these meanings were lost in secular contexts.
The Latin word symbolus and neuter noun symbolum refer to “a mark or sign as a means of recognition”. The Latin word symbolon derives from Ancient Greek, meaning “put together” or “compare”. A literary or artistic symbol as an “outward sign” of something else is a metaphorical extension of this notion of a message from a sender to a recipient. The meaning “something which stands for something else” was first recorded in English in 1590, in Edmund Spenser’s Faerie Queene.

What are ancient Egyptian symbols called?
Hieroglyph is a character used in pictorial writing, particularly on ancient Egyptian monuments. It represents objects and usually stands for specific sounds or groups of sounds. Hieroglyph, meaning “sacred carving”, is a Greek translation of the Egyptian phrase “the god’s words”. It was used to distinguish older hieroglyphs from the handwriting of the day. Modern usage has extended the term to other writing systems, such as Hieroglyphic Hittite, Mayan hieroglyphs, and early Cretan.
There is no connection between Egyptian hieroglyphs and these other scripts, with the only derivative being that used for Meroitic. Egyptian hieroglyphic writing was composed entirely of pictures, with the earliest examples showing them used as actual writing with phonetic values. The origins of the script are unknown, but it is believed to have originated in the late predynastic period. The two systems were so different in their use of signs that it is clear that they developed independently.

You shouldn’t show the card for the devil when talking about “the devil,” as it depicts either Baphomet or Pan depending on who you ask, and neither are what anyone (save maybe the Christians) refer to as “the devil.” Pan is a satyr, technically, and while Baphomet is a demon, we don’t refer to regular demons as “the devil.” Hell, most poeple don’t call demons “devils,” even. The only thing I’ve seen that does is the game series Devil May Cry, and I’m pretty sure they only did so to go with the title.
