“A Conspiracy of Faith” is a 2016 Danish film directed by Hans Petter Moland, featuring Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Fares Fares, Johanne Louise Schmidt, and Jakob Oftebro. The film follows the disappearance of siblings Samuel and Magdalena after growing up in a religious community in Denmark. Copenhagen’s Department Q (Department Q) finds a cryptic note in a bottle with a cry for help from a mysterious figure. After deciphering the note, they follow a sinister trail to investigate a 2008 case.
The film also explores two intertwined cases linking the past with the present. Two children are kidnapped 14 years after their disappearance, and Department Q must use their skills to catch an elusive serial killer. The film is available on various platforms, including AMC Plus, Amazon Channel, AMC+, and IFC Films Unlimited Apple TV Channel.
The third installment in the Department Q series, “A Conspiracy”, tells the story of Beatrice Cenci, the teenage daughter of a crazed landowner and nobleman who keeps her locked up in his castle. The film builds suspense through a simple premise: a news station is going to expose a satanic conspiracy among political powers.
Out of Shadows, a sequel to “A Conspiracy of Faith”, claims to expose the manipulation and control of the masses by mainstream media and Hollywood through propaganda. The film is Denmark’s highest grossing film at the box office and offers a unique perspective on the complex interplay between politics and the media.

Performances, direction, cinematography & soundtrack put this in a class of its own. Mann has never been better and that is saying something. This should have won a hatful of oscars and frankly you could easily make a case for this being the best film ever. Flawless, stirring & troubling this masterpiece needs multiple views.
This is such a fantastic movie. The way it is filmed, like Erin Brockovich, the mood of the characters, the tension, the anger, the skullduggery, the atmosphere of the Newsroom, the Courts and CBS. You can believe the angst of Dr Wigand torn between looking after his Wife & Family and doing the right thing. 5 Star performances all the way and superb direction, music and lighting, just brilliant. Thank you to all who made this film possible and to Asparagus Cenel for publishing it on here.
Amazing performances from Crowe, Pacino and Plummer. Excellent movie! No action, sex or other garnishing added. Just a beautifully executed story. The satisfaction Crowe’s character felt when his daughters watched the interview, the goodbye with no words between Bergman and Wallace at the end… exceptional stuff from immense actors.
Thank you for uploading this. Great movie. I’m always touched by his daughter’s reaction at 2:28:35 onward. When she looks at her father, we find out why Jeff refused to sign the supplementary agreement with Brown and Williamson. He wanted his daughters to remember their dad is a man of principle, not price.
One of Pacino’s best performances, refreshingly understated. Love Russell Crowe and Christopher Plummer too. I saw this when it first came out and re-watched it last night. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my remembrances of it but it far exceeded my expectations. Cinematography and music were both exceptional.
Saw this in the cinema when it came out, was hugely impressed but somehow forgot about it down the years. This afternoon it arrives as a YouTube suggestion, probably because I’d been perusal Al Pacino impersonations the other night…and I’m blown away once more. The highest compliment I can pay is, a film for adults. Increasingly rare. Many thanks for posting this.
Probably the best film I ever watched. For all those who have a background in journalism, or is passionate about it, must know what a terrific series of events is shown here. Standing your ground with news and stories above corporate policing, gosh, in a world today where most news is paid, this is a classic and must watch for journalists.
1999: a year in film: The Matrix, The Insider, American Beauty, Magnolia… four of my favorite films of all time, released in the same year. Also released in 1999: Fight Club, Office Space, The Green Mile, Boys Don’t Cry, The Sixth Sense, Being John Malkovich, The Cider House Rules, Eyes Wide Shut, The Talented Mr Ripley, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (one of the best musicals ever), The Thomas Crown Affair (lots of fun). Geasus!
The Insider is truly one of a kind. I have seen maybe hundreds of movies, but no movie has ever struck me the way this movie did. This movie is a masterpiece. The acting, the music, the storyline and the life lessons in it are just some of what makes this movie sublime. The way everything comes together is almost a dream, yet so real. I have seen this movie many times and it never fails to leave me speechless.
Russell Crowe did two movies that year – this and Gladiator. He had to gain and lose 60 lbs. to film both roles 4 months apart. Even though he was nominated for an Oscar for The Insider and won an Oscar for the Gladiator a year apart, he actually filmed them in the same year. Amazingly different characters. Pacino was great too. I love how Lowell Bergman left 60 minutes because of the corporate bullshit. It’s even worse today.
What an amazing, magnificent and masterpiece/masterclass of cinematic/movie awesomeness! The scene where: Christopher Plummer(Mike Wallace) tells Al Pacino(Lowell Bergman) that he is siding with the executive on the decision to air the alternate edit of the show! The look of stunned disbelief on Al Pacino’s face was award winning! Most excellent script/screenplay! All star cast of superb actors/actresses/thespians! Russell Crowe was phenomenal! The scene where the assistant district attorney(Bruce Mcgill) yelled at the arrogant; “Brown & Williamson” attorney to wipe that smirk off his face at the deposition! I thought he was going to tell him to go stand and face the corner after that! That was incredible acting! The 1990s was the last authentic decade/era of brilliant movies, shows, music, true creativity and the overall human condition before this present era/time of “unsocial media” and the abhorrent invasion of “artificial intelligence” and “augmented reality”! Thank you so much for this terrific and fantastic movie upload.
This movie is truly exceptional. To me the theme of this movie(and real life story) is morals over money. Time and time again we see how Pacino, Crowe choose what’s right over money. Crowe could have easily stayed at Brown and Williamson(if he weren’t fired) and made millions for the rest of his life. But he saw what Brown and Williamson was doing was wrong, so he spoke out. Same thing with Pacino, he knew the gambit he was taking would have costs, but he did it because he knew he and Crowe would make a huge difference and put a spotlight on corrupt tobacco companies, especially Brown and Williamson. The acting by Plummer was exceptional too, he plays such an important role in the movie and his insight makes a huge difference.
I smoked for 50 +/- years, I quit 6-7 years ago ! I never looked back ! ! The point I’m trying to make is, My family members have died because of tobacco. Some of which never smoked a day in their lives ! RIP ! I watched this moving when it came out, I was smoking then ans kept smoking !! Why I didn’t stop then is beyond me. Now when i’m in proximity, my chest hurts i cannot handle it !
What a fantastic movie ! riveting from the first to the last minute, excellent cast, representing our current society…. there are still people with integrity, but they are getting harder to find in a society that measures a man’s success by the amount of money he has managed to hoard, and ignores what he did to get it.
Excellent movie and one of the best i have seen. Michael Maan has directed the movie so well and brought the best performance out of each and every actor including the daughters of Jeffry Wigand. Russel Crowe churns the consciousness of every decent citizen. The movie reiterates, “bad people win only when good people are silent.”
Every second of this movie was rivetting. Dr. Wiegand went on to become a well sought consultant all over the world, offering expert advice and consult on tobacco related health matters. The conscience of a man, who is compelled to act for the greater good, at risk to their family and themselve’s life and livelihood, is a man worthy of admiration, honour, and the greatest respect. Just as a addage, ‘Wiegand,’ is German, and it’s pronounced ‘Vegand,’ (Wiegand) in German. The American’s can’t get their heads around the ‘W’ being pronounced as ‘V,’ so they pronounce ‘W’ as ‘a Y’ instead…go figure?
I also watched this when it was first released … top cast, well made documentary! Russell spent much time with the character he portrayed to get all his mannerisms right. I am proud to have known John Carmichael and Bob Snow who lead the anti-tobacoo campaign here in Australia! They suffered similar threats, lost jobs, did jail time … etc
The Insider. One of the very best film’s ever made. My favourite Al Pacino performance. My favourite Russel Crowe performance after A Beautiful Mind. My favourite Christopher Plummer performance. It’s a master class in acting and direction. In my top 5 film’s of all time. Al Pacino is the glue that holds this film together so well. It’s a stunningly well made film.
This film is important, as a cinematic accomplishment, and as a social document. Everything about this production, from sound and musical score to the finessed cinematography and, of course, the sterling performances, all ring with gravitas appropriate to the social truth of hegemony: power remains at the top amongst the few. Lives are at stake, lives we have, each of us known. Change en masse is impossible, but awareness can be passed on. Everyone involved in this film knew that. THE INSIDER. Dir. Michael Mann. writing: Marie Brenner (article). screenplay: Eric Roth, Micheal Mann Music: Peter Bourke, Lisa Gerrard. Cinematography: Dante Spinotti starring: Al Pacino, Russell Crowe, Diane Venora, Hallie Eisenberg, Christopher Plummer, Debbie Mazar, Philip Baker Hall.
Thank you for uploading this film! Very relevant nowadays as the lower 48 states, for fear of losing income from the 1999 big tobacco – US states Master Settlement Agreement (“MSA”), and big tobacco, are trying to ban water soluble nicotine vaping and/or smear it with fake news or curtail it with ridiculous flavor bans. There is no greater source of preventable death than cigarette smoking. And reducing cigarette smoking by substituting water soluble nicotine vaping will also save billions in healthcare costs.
Very happy to see it again for the tenth maybe more times. Very important movie on democracy freedom of speech… Courage and dignity. And the rythm and music.. Montage is perfect. Makes me think about other US films with robert redford. “fair america” I loved dreamy america iof my grand-parents and dad. Past one… Unfortunately.
Nice movie with that Hollywood effect. But in the end after the lawsuit and the actor’s acting it changed nothing. Money changed hands and people patted each other on the backs, but cigarettes are the back drop of every counter as they always where. But no you can buy your lottery tickets with them to help support schools…..right.
Fantastic film. Thank you. First time perusal. Read a few articles when this happened but became so angry that I chose to shut this down entirely. Lost all respect for CBS, 60 Min Wallace and Hewett. Cowards! Smoked menthol 15 adult years stopped at highly addicted 3 packs a day. Smoke free 34 years in great physical shape at 68 and yet I still want a smoke as stinky as they are. Wouldn’t trade my great lung capacity and energetic outdoor activities for anything. Who knew I’d be the healthiest person at this age. Diet and exercise smoking and not. I guess it worked. Sugarless gum was a life saver too. Prayer worked.
36:10 The driving range scene is one of the most eerie and effective scenes I’ve ever seen in my life. And I’ve watched a ton of movies. Take a look at that white tank behind Russell Crowe. Look at the framing. What does it look like? A cigarette. This movie was a quiet masterpiece. Absolutely astounding work here.
4:15, yes that’s Cliff Curtis…the chameleon strikes again. As for the film, it documents one of the last great runs of real news in America…when corporate and legal started running content, the downfall began…we all got dumber…free speech was slashed…the stories weren’t interesting…then the internet cheapened real journalism. Now we don’t know what to believe unless we see it live on a citizen journalist’s camera, and even then, it’s usually not that interesting. 60 Minutes is a shadow of what it once was.
My favorite- thanks so much;-) Heard Russell Crowe say he struggled a lot in the beginning to find this character and get it right because of his hair! They kept dying it and it would fade and they couldnt get it right. He finally requested a custom wig so he could look like the character. Once they agreed he said it was amazing to play Jeffrey.
Born in 1945, I grew up in an era of rampant smoking. Other than children, pretty much everyone smoked; in homes, theatres, on airplanes, trains, buses, in restaurants, offices, airports, concerts, on television shows (harken back to the old Johnny Carson shows), everywhere. There were no restrictions, no health warnings back then. In 1962, I was seventeen, I stole a Salem menthol cigarette out of my mother’s purse. Immediately I was hooked; smoked for 32 years. They say tabacco is harder to quit than heroin. I quit fifty years ago (“cold turkey” which is rare). Only then did I begin to fully educate myself to the hazards of smoking; heart disease, cancer, lung disease, type 2 diabetes to name a few. Thank God the body has the capability to heal itself. My lungs, pulmonary system and other organs (tobacco smoke invades every organ) are fully healed. The United States has taken the lead on educating the citizens, envoking laws having to so with smoking. As pointed out in this amazing film, it hasn’t been easy because money and corporate America could care less about human beings. The toxic fast food chain is doing the same thing. Don’t get me started.
Well crafted…top-notch photography…THANK YOU FOR THIS EXCELLENT UPLOAD!! When seen in the light of the preceding election cycle…this is an especially interesting movie… Interesting and entertaining…for once AP doesn’t go over the top in a nuclear way…we should all give thanks for that… Pretty typical mid to late 90’s flick…in that, it’s a perfectly watchable and well made movie. What happened hollywood…you lost the magic.
I love movies like this where its hard to tell if Al Pacino is completely a good guy or completely a bad guy where he is at times somewhere in between. Its the reason to me Al Pacino was my favorite actor for quite a long time. When he plays roles where its so easy to tell he is “only for good” or “only for bad” I never like his roles as its always out of his character. To me Al Pacino is a good actor when he is perplexed between right and wrong and has to make grey area choices. Its hard to find people as internally conflicted as him. Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon also good examples. In some movies its so hard to tell if he is making choices involving morality or has thrown them out the window.
Asparagus you’re a legend for uploading this movie… And given its been up on yt for years I would like to acknowledge the owners and producers for not taking action, realising that the fact this movie is freely available to almost anyone, in temporal terms (above legal imperatives), far outweighs their copyright rights.
the thing i think russel crowe is incredibly gifted at,even though he looks like a rough uncouth aussie and there’s a part of him that is like that .is for me,his utterly amazing ability to be the opposite (so refined and nuanced in portraying his characters ;don’t think i’ve seen anybody do it better . ) and how he does it with his character here is just staggering and awesome .he is a bloody genius .and this from a fellow aussie that doesn’t support souths {although do/did like Greg Inglis}. and with “a beautiful mind ” you see him doing it again .
Tobacco, coffee, alcohol, illicit sex, gambling and meat eating are all habits that a sane person with even a little higher consciousness should stay the f away from. Instead, these pillars of ignorance that destroy our valuable human form of life are regularly propagated worldwide. The value of truth is laid bare here, and is to be appreciated, however, if this same integrity were pointed towards God consciousness, what a victory it would surely be. 🕊️🌿🌸🌿🕊️
One of best movies hav evr seen n my 75yrs. I cried because the lying cigarette Co’s killd my Mother. They didn’t disclose the dangers on pkgs for many yrs latr. By then too late😢. I wil go to my grave regretting not suiing them for her loss. I failed 😢because I had 7yrs to do it. Our family was nevr the same. She was the “glue” that kept us all together. I remember hearing bout this on news. Was important that I saw a movie bout what really went on to all that wer involved back then. Weakr men might gav take there own life. So glad Wygant was strong. It was an honor for the actors to b cast re the most serious health issue of this country and wow 👌 what a cast. Absolute brilliance on ev level: writer, directing, acting, soundtrack. Actors all “heavy hitters” and masters of their craft. I m truly grateful for this masterpiece of a presentation. ❤
I was blessed to have a small role in this movie. I’ll never forget, when filming began in 1998, how massive the production crew was. This is the only movie I ever worked in that used 4 PANAVISION 35 mm cameras for different angles on most every scene $$$$$$ This movie allowed Michael Mann and Dante Spinatti to pioneer new camera techniques which are still unrivaled, even in the digital age. Even while working in this movie, I never understood the real story of Big Tobacco. “Man of the People” (the insider – original title) told this story very accurately. Pacino and Crowe were perfect for these roles. Only now do I fully understand the plot, and give major props to the entire cast and crew for how they made this movie. IMPACT!!!!!
When a story of truth becomes so snared by those who will not let it be told. This was a 1998 story … today’s stories are just as hard to get the truth out for those who will not let them be told…. just for reasons of who gets to wield power instead of just simply giving out what will hurt someone’s life and being given the choice to decide what will hurt them… sadly the peplum has swung to allow our kids to make those questionable choices before their brain developments are mature enough to hear the pros and cons of serious choices. This was a powerful story – my second husband passed at 54 years of lung cancer back in 1978. He smoked close to 3 packs a day… Was a WWII Marine who made it home.. He also drank heavily… Those were his choices but choices that were probably enhanced by the chemicals in the cigarettes and the alcohol.
A fabulous story, it is one of the best journalism pieces ever done. I don’t remember perusal this film in 1999 but I am happy to see it today. Thanks for sharing, I do care about truth and it is sad when news fails to provide society with it. Great acting and terrific intervention from many reporters to make sure this story comes to light.
Wow, what a fantastic documentary / movie about nicotine and the power the big tobacco industry has. I smoked 55 years and only gave up because my body and my budget stopped me for good. I have great respect for those guys trying to fight big tobacco industry. Now they sell vapes as healthy, and still use highly addictive nicotine and have now little kids smoking them thinking they case no harm. Must say this is perhaps one of the best documentary movie, I have seen in years.
A very underrated and very great movie. Love how the movie flows from the first act introducing Crowe and Pacino as two people who act in the public interest despite being in industries that people are cynical towards (the money of the tobacco industry and the narcissism of the media), to the second act of Crowe getting the courage to spill everything and then to the final act of Pacino battling to get the information out
Listing have Heat and The Last of the Mohicans above The Insider. I can see Heat, but I don’t agree. Certainly not Mohicans. Aside from The Insider being the most important of his films, it is just superior. Mann has such a way of getting truly gritty and stylized (I don’t even want to say) performances out of his actors that is untouched. Many nominated, sadly, no winners, I believe.
Mr. Pacino I will never ever not want to watch you. You have no clue how I grew up in many ways of growth perusal the GodFather. So many angles of use in Power and Authority. Real men with women and not some cotton candy ball men. Thank you for all the years you have given us you…I pray for your latter years to be authentic 28:34 peace and joy. Bless ❤
As i started perusal… knowing notbing but that others enjoyed it 25 years later…first i am a niccotene addict..seriously…prices& quality have changed. I cannot stand the smell. But when i started i was in 5th grade later i was getting sober in 91 at a hospital no kess and st a meeting of a marathon of 72 hrs at 3:30ish am someo e said you will need a ciggerette for my story. Handed me one and an ashtray..coffee& ciggs half been partly at times my only real vice. Anyway interesting movie. I regret that i can laugh at anyone who tries to claim tobacco is not addictive…i cannot say alcohol was difficult to stop using. Most agree that giving up ciggs is akin to setious drugs. I cannot belueve how interesting this movie is on many different levels. Ironically i knew zilch when i clicked but a few sentences. Names so back to it ..this is classic welk written intense ..enjoying the intrigue the complexity.ty
One really wonders who those big tobacco CEO’s are within ? – Hard to conceive how people come to those states of being. The film was a sharp and polished dagger in its moral seriousness…the sharper still contrast why i cannot watch beyond 5 minutes of any hollywood offering in the last 20 years or so..tedium,banality,manipulative and meretricious shite.
Must see for any Journalism or Business Student. It’s shameful that we live in a society where ‘Ethics’ has become such as dangerous liability. Five Star Masterpiece . . . ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ !! Anything I might have said, has all been said in the comments below. Except to thank Asparagus Cenel & You Tube for this outstanding presentation. ♥
Of course, the hero is the principled American Jewish news producer. The whistle blower is incidental to the narrative. And, of course, to insinuate some connection between Hezbollah in Lebanon and the greedy, corporate executives, the brave, principled, incorruptible Jewish journalist saves the day. It’s a Jewish redemption story.
Ternyata jawaban kuis kami salah.
Great movie that would have been even better if not for some lighting directors obsession with shadow. Almost every scene day or night regardless of where the lighting depicted was one side of everything was a shadow. Take a look around in real life and find an office or home that is lighted that way.
The Insider (Michael Mann, 1999) is a drama, suspense and biography film. CBS News’ 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman searches for a story when former Brown & Williamson vice president of research and development Jeff Wigand won’t talk to him. The company tightens the former executive in a signed confidentiality agreement and benefits with his resignation as the health plan. He receives unidentified threats. Thinking about the best for her daughters, but with a weakened marriage, she decides to grant an interview with Mike Wallace and risks being arrested for failing to comply with the agreement. With information on mergers and acquisitions, it turns out that Westinghouse is in talks to buy CBS Corp, so CBS Corp lawyers advise CBS News to shelve the interview and avoid a lawsuit. As the CBS News program and direction crumble, Wigand is hung out to dry, Bergman is compromised and the CEOs of Big Tobacco can get away with perjury, the question remains: Will the interview air? Hugs.
Great film, the hero having to handle the bottomless, more to this film–his revealing of ammonia chemistry turning nicotine into a fix–if the news had studied ammonia chemistry, ammonia most likely made from watered down radioactive runoff from nuclear power plants (ammoniaenergy.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/losalamos.pdf), if the news had looked, they would have found that the British Encyclopedia Britannica had tobacco listed as a narcotic in the 1960s, so there would have been documents to go with that as sites. Interestingly play on 2:26:15 they mention the radioactive term “half-life, playing with it in terms of newsy problems, but not relating to ammonia. CBS’ 60 minutes did its job, but did not go in depth enough for whatever reason, probably causing the hero extra stress, but at least they did something. Was the hero having to face a death cult, or part of a hidden eugenics movement via cigarette deaths–possibly more sinister, and scarier than expected.
