After Summoning, May I Cast Spells With Fast Effects?

The Fast Effect Timing rules allow players to activate fast effects once any effects triggered by the Summon are activated. This can be done once any effects triggered by the Summon are activated. However, it is important to note that there are multiple parts to the Battle Phase, and if you simply say “Battle Phase”, your opponent may interpret that as meaning you are in the Start Step.

Fast effects are card activations and effects with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher, including monster Quick Effects, Quick-Play Spell Cards, and Trap Cards. They are the only type of monster effect that can be activated in the Summon negation window and can be chained to another activation (excluding SEGOC). Ignition Effects and Spell Cards other than Quick-Play Spells can only be activated during an open game state during your own Main Phase.

Quickplay Spell Cards can be activated during your opponent’s turn if you set them in your Spell/Trap Card Zones during your turn. Quick-Play Spell Cards can be activated during either player’s turn but cannot be activated the turn they are Set, similar to Trap Cards. The only one you cannot activate during the same turn after setting is Quick-Play Spells.

In summary, fast effects are card activations and effects with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher, such as monster Quick Effects, Quick-Play Spell Cards, and Trap Cards. They can be activated during either player’s turn but not during the set turn, similar to Trap Cards.

Can you activate trigger effects in the damage step?

The Damage Step represents a pivotal phase of combat, during which the opponent may flip a face-down monster to face-up status, thereby activating cards or effects that modify the monster’s Attack or Defense attributes. In the event that the monster in question possesses a trigger effect that is activated by being flipped face-up, said effect will not yet have been activated. For a comprehensive elaboration, one is encouraged to refer to the official rulebook.

When can instant spells be played?

When can instant spells be played?

Instants are the only card type in Magic that has no timing restrictions, allowing players to play them at any time with priority. They can be cast as a spell using the stack and follow the actions stated in its rules text. Instant subtypes are a single word and are listed after a long dash, with each word after the dash being a separate subtype. Instants can have multiple subtypes, and they cannot enter the battlefield.

If a player states they can do something “any time they could cast an instant” or “only as an instant”, it means only that the player must have priority. Effects that would preclude a player from casting an instant spell do not affect their capability to perform that action, unless the action is actually casting an instant spell.

Can you activate spell cards on your opponent’s turn?

Spells are cards with effects activated from hand, identified by their Green border. They can only be activated during your turn and Main Phase, except for Quick-Play Spells or if the spell states otherwise. They can be activated in the Spell/Trap Zone. There are six types of spells in the game, each with a symbol next to the Type field on the card. These spells can be set, normal, continuous, field, Equip, quick-play, ritual, or pendulum monsters.

Can you special summon twice a turn?

A Special Summon is a powerful strategic maneuver that utilizes a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster Card to summon a monster, with no limit on the number of monsters that can be summoned in a single turn. This still allows for the continuation of the player’s Normal Summon or Set.

Can quick effects be activated on opponent’s turn?

Fast effects can be activated by either player, even during their opponent’s turn, as long as the conditions are appropriate. When both players want to activate fast effects simultaneously, they are placed on a Chain (see pages 38-41 of the v8. 0 rulebook). Fast effects include card activations and effects with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher, including monster Quick Effects, Quick-Play Spell Cards, and Trap Cards. The privacy practices of your new destination may differ from our standards.

How do quick spells work?

The item in question cannot be activated until the opponent’s next turn, a process that is analogous to the functioning of trap cards, which will be discussed in greater detail in the subsequent video.

Can quick-play spells be played on opponents turn?

Players are permitted to activate Quick-Play Spell Cards from their hand during their turn; however, they are not permitted to do so during their opponent’s turn, except through the “Condemned Maiden” effect.

Can you activate quick play spells in draw phase?

Can you activate quick play spells in draw phase?

The question is about the ability to activate Book of Mon from your hand on your turn. Quick-Play rules allow you to chain or activate Quick-Play Spell Cards from your hand during any phase of your turn, including Draw, Standby, Battle, and End Phases. However, you cannot book Moon’s Dust Tornado, as it is a trap card. Playing Book of Moon independently would be just as effective as chaining for a monster.

The issue is that a card like MST cannot be activated in response to a chain if it is your turn. Even if you chain MST to his Dust Tornado, the Dust Tornado effect does not disappear because MST does not negate it like a counter trap does.

Can you activate quick play spells during damage step?

Can you activate quick play spells during damage step?

The Damage Step triggers effects like “Ally of Justice – Catastor” and “Neo-Spacian Grand Mole” at the start of the step. Trigger Effects, such as “Honest” and “Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow”, can be activated during this Substep. If a face-down monster is the target of an attacking monster, it is flipped face-up. If the monster has a permanent effect affecting its ATK/DEF, the effect is immediately active.

Flipp Effects trigger during this Flipp Face-Up, but they form a chain and resolve later in Sub Step 6. Similar to the Start of the Damage Step, effects like “Honest” and “Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow” can be activated.

Can you activate a quick effect on summon?

Monster effects that negate activation or Summon are called Quick Effects. They can be activated in the Summon negation window and chained to another activation, excluding SEGOC. For cards with Problem-Solving Card Text (PSCT), Quick Effects are noted by “(Quick Effect)” in the text, while prior to Maximum Crisis Special Edition, they were usually noted by “During either player’s (turn / Phase / Step)” in the activation timing or “(this is a Quick Effect)” at the end of the effect. For cards without PSCT, Quick Effects are more difficult to identify, but can be identified by text indicating the same timing as the PSCT standard.

Can you play a quick play spell after setting it?

Can you play a quick play spell after setting it?

Face-down Quick-Play Spell Cards may be activated during either player’s turn, but not during their Set turn. This is analogous to Trap Cards. These cards have a Spell Speed of 2 and can be linked to other cards, and can be activated during the opponent’s subsequent turn.

  • Hey Coder, Short Question to the “attempt to summon Window” Same Example the Opponent controls Laggia and I have no Cards on the field. I try to Special Summon Cyber Dragon and my Opponent chains Laggia. Am I allowed to activate Infinite Impermanance or Psyframegear Gamma because the summons isnt resolved at this moment and if yes, does it counts aswell when I try to xyz or synchro summon?

  • Hello Distant Coder. I would love to hear your rulings regarding the card: Grand Spiritual Art Ichirin. My locals judge has been ruling against me saying it doesn’t stop cards that have quick effects to special summon themselves. Specifically the dogmatika archetype, like Fleur-De-Lis, The Knight of Dragma. The only evidence I have is EDO pro shows my field spell negating those effects. But I can’t rationally explain why it works. Help would be appreciated!! Even if I’m wrong, the closure would be nice to have as well.

  • Hey Coder! If during a Main Phase, one of my face up Beast type monsters is destroyed and then I respond by activating the effect of Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest in my hand, can I then chain the effect of an Ursarctic monster in my hand to discard that Green Baboon and Special Summon both monsters in that same chain?

  • Hi Coder, i was dueling an S-force deck with my Utopia and had this situation with my friend: -I had Utopia Double on my field face up -He activates S-Force Chase ( Target face-up cards your opponent controls, up to the number of “S-Force” monsters you control with different names; return them to the hand. If a “S-Force” monster you control would banish a card(s) from your hand to activate its effect, you can banish this card from your GY instead. You can only use each effect of “S-Force Chase” once per turn. ) and targets my Utopia Double -I activate as CL2 my Utopia Double eff to add Double or nothing and the Xyz summon over himself -My opponent activates a second S-Force Chase as CL3 targeting my Utopia Double again So our question was if he can activate that second S-force chase, since it states “you can only use each effect of “S-force chase” once per turn.” but at that moment the CL1 Chase hasn’t yet resolve so we didn’t know if it counts as been “used” already” or can he activate that second copy in the same chain?

  • Hi Coder My question is: if I control “Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower” and I synchro summon using “Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi” and a lvl 1 monster to make a lvl 3 “Mayakashi” synchro, then I activate Dakki’s effect to special summon itself. How many cards does the bone tower mill? I’ve played this on an online simulator and it milled 4, but after I watched your YGOmega P2 article and the Pacifis ruling I had the doubt.

  • Hi Coder, I activate Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm to special summon from the extra deck and my opponent would chain book of moon targeting Whitebeard, would the Whitebeard still equip to the monster? What about the case of Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain? Would the target still equip?

  • I have a little question. What happens if a player controls 2 monsters that are uneffected by card effects, with different types, and Rivalry of warlords is activated. I believe it cant get rid of either of them since they are uneffected, but what restrictions apply to the player? Assuming its warrior and fiend, can the player summon either? Do they need to pick which type to keep at the resolution and then be locked into it irrelevant to the other monster. If they have a monster that isnt immune, can they pick that card to keep all 3, since 1 is the chosen type for rivalry and the other 2 are immune?

  • I have a chuche with 4 banished Virtual World cards on my side of the field. My opponent has a SwordSoul Taia on his side and declared “Enter Battle”. I then said “before battle” and activate ChuChe to target his Taia to destroy it. He then special summon his Incredible Ecclesia in hand and proceed to go into his SwordSoul combo with the just now summoned Ecclesia. My question is since he already declared “Enter Battle”, shouldn’t my ChuChe be the last thing to activate before both of us going into battle and he shouldn’t be able to summon his Incredible Ecclesia and continue his main phase 1 like nothing happened?

  • So, quick question to anybody who can answer; Accumulated fortune reads; “Activate only as Chain Link 4 or higher. Draw 2 cards. You cannot activate this card if multiple cards/effects with the same name are in that Chain.” Assuming 3 cards with different names are chained together and you activate a copy of accumulated fortune as chain link 4, would you be allowed to chain a second copy of accumulated fortune as chain link 5? Technically 2 cards with the same name were not a part of the chain prior to the activation, right? I have a feeling you can, but I am very unsure.

  • Dear Coder So say I use raigeki break on a monster and discard a card for cost to target a monster on my opponents field and they use some effect in response to raigeki break that tributes the selected monster. Can they actually tribute the monster since its marked for destruction? Also, can they use the true draco spell/traps and tribute them if they get targeted to be destroyed by something like MST or twin twister?

  • Hey code, I have a question about “when” effects: I have a set Ghostrick Scare and Ghostrick Fairy Opp normal summons Green Gadget, activates eff to search for Red Gadget If I chain Scare in this window to flip my Fairy and face down his Green Gadget, once the chain resolves, can my Fairy trigger? same question if I activate Scare after resolving Green gadget. Thank you!

  • Hey guys very quick question, my opponent declares an attack on my monster with Lyrilusc-Recital Starling while it is affected by the effects of Lyrulisc-Assembled Nightingale, in this scenario, do I take any damage from the attack? Starling says “All battle damage you take from battles involving this Xyz Summoned card is also inflicted to your opponent.” My argument is that since he would not take any damage due to Assembled Nightingale then I wouldn’t either.

  • Question I had involving Duel Links and likely TCG: I control a “Steelswarm Roach”, while my opponent controls a “Superheavy Flutist” equipped with “Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker”. With either effect of “Flutist” or “Peacemaker”, they Special Summon “Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei” from either the hand (w/ Flutist) or Deck (w/ Peacemaker). How come this Special Summon of Big Benkei avoids the Special Summon negation of Steelswarm Roach?

  • I Special summon Gaia the magical Knight of Dragons with the Effect of Spiral Fusion, so it gains 2600 ATK, then Gaia Destroys an opponents Monster by Battle and gains 2600 ATK With its own Effect. In the following Turn i destroy one Card From My opponent With gaias Effect, so He loses 2600 ATK, then My opponent activates “forbidden chalice”. How many ATK does Gaia have after resolving Forbidden Chalice ?

  • Hi Coder, Question Here: CL1 Tactics to take; CL2 Evil Twin Ki-Sikil to summon; resolves; Evil Twin Ki-Sikil summons Evil Twin Lil-La, then TTT takes Lil-La, does Lil-La activate to pop? And if so, who gets the effect? Does it matter if the player activating TTT also controls a Ki-Sikil monster? Also CL1 Raigeki; CL2 Sunny to summon; Resolves; Sunny summons both link monsters, Raigeki destroys them. Do the link monsters get their on summon effects?

  • I’ve got an unconventional ruling question. I play Yugioh under Battle Pack 3: Monster League rules, which state that monsters are all types at all times, no matter where they are. I control 1 monster, have no cards in grave, and only have both Sirenorca and Beast Machine King Barbaros Ür in my hand. Which of these monsters in my hand am I allowed to Special Summon? Relevant text from Sirenorca: “If you control both Fish and Winged Beast-Type monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand).” Relevant text from Barbaros: “You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 Machine-Type monster and 1 Beast-Warrior-Type monster from your hand, field, and/or Graveyard.” If you want my thought process, I believe that Barbaros requires that you banish two separate monsters because of the way that it essentially says “…by banishing 1 monster and 1 monster…”, which would simplify to “2 monsters”. In Sirenorca’s case, however, it just asks that you control two different types, which a single monster is able to fulfill under Battle Pack 3 rules. The question is whether the text “monsters” is significant, since most card effects will write it as “monster(s)” if the minimum is 1, or if the card is only looking for both types to be on your field.

  • Hey Coder, I have a rulings question about Link Monsters. If a Marincess Link monster is properly summoned, sent to the GY, then equipped to another Marincess Link with the effect of Battle Ocean, then sent to the GY again, is it still treated as having been summoned properly for the effects of cards like Coral Anemone or Monster Reborn?

  • my opponent has 1 set solemn judgment, and 1 solemn strike. I have a banished floowandereeze Stri; a floowandereeze Robina, Eglen, and Tocan in my hand; and 2 set ‘floowandereeze and the dreaming town.’ When i attempt to normal summon the Robina what can my opponent respond with? if the normal summon of robina is not negated, I activate its effect as cl1, Stri as (cl2) I chain both traps(cl 3 &4) what can my opponent respond with? basically I’m interested in the “summon response window” for consecutive normal summons

  • I XYZ summon Lyrilusc – Ensemblue Robin using Lyrilusc – Sapphire Swallow with another Lyrilusc in grave. I trigger the Sapphire Swallow effect to attach material and my opponent chains book of moon targeting the Robin. On resolution will I still be able to attach material to the now flipped down Robin? Big fan keep up the awesome work!

  • Hey Coder, i have an interesting Question.. So i am control of my Number59 Crooked cook with an astral Kuriboh attached and my opponent activated skilldrain the turn before. What happens if i activate a spell card? Does Crooked cooks immunety (unaffected and undestroyable by battle) no longer apply and therefore will be affected by skilldrain the moment i activate my spell? And could i chain crooked cook’s Quick Effect on activation of my spell to make him immune again?

  • I control Madolche Queen Tiaramisu, Madolche Hootcake, Madolche Magileine and Madolche Ticket. My opponent destroy magileine by battle. At the End of the Damage Step, magileine mandatory trigger effect is activate, shuffling it back into the deck. At that point, ticket mandatory tigger effect is activate, allowing me to add or summon a Madolche from deck. I summon Petingcessoeur. On the summon, I activate Petingcessoeur optional trigger effect to summon Madolche Messengelato. On the summon, i activate Messengelato optional trigger effect to add a Madolche Spell/Trap. Am I allowed to activate all of those effects while it is the damage step?

  • Hello coder, say that my opponent activates PSY-Framegear Gamma to negate one of my monster effects. After it resolves (summoning Driver ect), for whatever reason I use Infinite Impermanence (or other form of effect negation) targeting the PSY-Framegear Gamma. Does that negated PSY-Framegear Gamma still get banished during the End Phase?

  • I have a question. I have Gladiator Beast Domitianus and 4 other monsters on my field, my opponent has Ultimate Conductor Tyranno on his field. How does Conductor’s “This card can attack all monster your opponent controls, once each” interact with Domitianus’s “You choose the attack targets for your opponent’s attack”?

  • I have a ruling question If I have Numeron Wall in my hand and I have no cards on the field can I use its effect to activate a Numeron Network or do I have to have a Numeron Wall on the field as well? Also is there a difference between “If you control no cards except for blank” and “If you control blank and no other cards”?

  • So I have a ruling question in regards to trigger effects that special summon in the hand. Suppose I perform 5 summons in a turn and my opponent activates Nibiru. At the time of Nibiru’s summon, I had a Dark attribute monster tributed and have in my GY a copy of Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair and a copy of Token collector in hand. Am I allowed to activate the trigger effect of both monsters? I ask this because they both have the same wording of being able to be specialled “from the hand (even if not there)” in their lines of text.

  • heres a question i was thinking about the other day, you Activate tri-brigade revolt and one of the Monsters you special summon is Amazoness baby tiger. At the resolution and summon of the Link monster can you special summon the amazoness Baby tiger with its own effect since an amazonness was ss, and if not are you allowed to ss one from the hand if you have one in the hand

  • Hey Coder, I have a ruling question. I have destiny hero decider in grave and destiny hero dynatag in hand, my opponent attacks, I active dynatag in hand to make the damage I would take zero then we both take a 1000 points of effect. Can I active decider’s in graveyard effect to make any effect damage I would take be zero then add it to my hand?

  • 5:31 – Funny enough, Duel Links used to have a Weather Painter bug where they could activate their effects that were gained by their Canvases before the opponent’s Summon resolves, and then they can chain any other card they want to, so long as it is activatable while the opponent doesn’t control a monster, and then your opponent could respond. This sounds stupid, and it sounds like it ignores proper passing of chain link priority, but it was truly a weird bug.

  • Hi Coder! Quick ruling question, I’m pretty sure I know the answer based off some of your articles I’ve watched but here it is. Can my Sky Striker Ace Raye dodge the effect of Ghost Mourner and Moonlit Chill with her effect? I assumed she could since it has a similar effect to Effect Veiler and targets with additional effects than Veiler. Was at a locals and I haven’t played the game in a while so maybe my understanding of how these things work may be off.

  • My question is about Destiny HERO – Dasher. The effect of Dasher to Special Summon while Dasher is in the Graveyard is a “one-time only” effect, and this card hasn’t had a printing since 2011 and has no simplified text. Does this effect mean once per Duel or once while that copy of Dasher is in the Graveyard and the effect can be used again by that Dasher if it is moved from the Graveyard and returned?

  • Hey Coder, I have Crystal Rose on the field and Fortissimo which gives 800 ATK to a Melodious monster until my next standby phase. Crystal Rose uses its effect to send a Melodious monster from the Deck to substitute its name for that sent monster’s until the end of the turn, then I activate Fortissimo targeting Crystal Rose, will it’s ATK boost remain when I end my turn and my Crystal Rose loses the Melodious monster’s name, or will it simply no longer linger much like equip spells and needing the necessary target?

  • Can the quick effect of Springans Ship- Exblowrer to banish be activated during the damage step? It has PSCT and says it can be activated during battle, but does not specify “except during the damage step.” This distinction would mean that the attacking monster would not be able to redeclare, and then if Great Sand Sea – Gold Golgonda is active, it would grant an additional battle fade. Is that the correct interpretation?

  • Question, If I have Torrential Tribute & Trap Trick set, and I summon Vennominon King of poisonous snakes, assuming there’s no interuption from the opponent: I attempt to activate Torrential Tribute in response to Vennominon’s summon, then chain Trap Trick to it searching & setting Rise of the Snake Deity. After Torrential Tribute resolves and destroys Vennominon, can I then activate Rise of the Snake Deity?

  • hey coder, if i have Live☆Twin Sunny’s Snitch in the field and i nibiru my opponent does the token count as a special summon and if so does the effect of Live☆Twin Sunny’s Snitch trigger (the effect is that when my opponent special or normal summons i gain 200 lp and he losses 200 lp) can you please pick this i need to know 🙂

  • After I search a card with ROTA and I give my opponent the chance to read it, we continue the duel. After some actions have been taken, my opponent asks “do I know any of the cards in your hand?” Am I obligated to remind him what card I searched, or is it private knowledge? If he specifically asks “what did you search with ROTA?” after he already had the chance to read the card am I obligated to answer that question?

  • Idk if @distantcoder can answer this or anyone else but here’s the question. If you already summoned twice and you flip summon limit, are you legally allowed to chain any card that would special summon a monster? I know with rivalry/ Gozen/ tcboo you can chain since it checks on resolution but I feel like summon limit is different.

  • Hey distant coder if your taking a know your rulings, I have a ruling but I would wanna see an explanation to this. I have 2 dark monsters on the field and I activate ultra polymerization and I decide to summon starving venom fusion dragon, however I know that you cannot use ultra polymerizations graveyard effect to bring back the monsters used to summon it. Why is that?

  • Hi I have reason to believe that some toons can attack directly even if toon kingdom/world has been removed from the field without destruction. The older toons like mermaid, blue-eyes and summon skull can only be special summoned while you control toon world but in there last line of text, after a full stop says “can attack your opponents directly, unless they control a toon monster” However the newer toons like harpie lady, black luster soldier and cyber dragon are easyer to summon, “but says while you control toon world and your opponent controls no toon monsters, this card can attack your opponent directly” Is this correct? Thanks

  • this is kind of an old one but this FTK never sat right with me. my opponent has Koa’ki Meiru Doom on the field they activate Gallis the Star Beast’s effect to reveal itself then send the top card of their deck to the grave inflicting damage if it’s a monster then special summoning itself, they then use Genex Ally Birdman’s effect to bounce Gallis to hand but since Koa’ki Meiru Doom negates dark monsters effects that activate in the main phase Birdman doesn’t special summon itself but Gallis is still bounced for cost. they then use Gallis’s effect again and repeat until opponent has 0 lifepoint or Gallis sends a non monster to the grave and destroys itself. now from my understanding of the game this shouldn’t work and yet it was considered a valid FTK that people used and even got a deck profiles and guides can you explain why it does/doesn’t work?

  • Hey Coder, have a question about Crystal Abundance: Opponent has 5 monsters, 2 tokens underneath them. Abundance resolves. It so reads “Special Summon as many “Crystal Beast” monsters as possible from your Graveyard, up to the number of cards your opponent controlled that were sent to the Graveyard by this card’s effect”. How many CBs am I allowed to summon from my graveyard considering that the tokens are not going to be sent to the graveyard. Thanks Dude, appreciate your work.

  • Hi, Coder! Question: Player A controls “Zoroa, the Magistus Conflagrant Calamaity” equipped with a link monster by its own effect and a synchro monster equipped by other card’s effect. Player B activates Dark Ruler Player A chains a set “Spellbook of Wisdom” declaring Spells Player B chains a set Imperm Player A chains another set “Spellbook of Wisdom” declaring Traps How the chain resolves? Zoroa’s effect is still negated? And if it does, will it lose its equips? Thanks, Coder!

  • Ehy coder, even tho i am sure about my answer i have a question, i activate link burst to destroy one monster my opponent controls. My opponent activates return of the divine dragon lords to banish it from the Gy, preventing the destruction of his monster. Am i still allowed to draw the card via the effect of link burst? Im pretty sure no due to the “Then” conjunction but i would like an explanation

  • I am wondering about some mechanics that have to do with monsters that are treated as Normal monsters while in certain areas like “Dragon Spirit of White” or all Gemini monsters. I know that if I use “Dragon Shrine” to send “Dragon Spirit of White” or “Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon” to the GY then I can sent another monster to the GY since those monsters become Normal once they hit the grave. But how far does that go exactly and how can I judge cards that allow that. Some examples I came across would be: Can I Summon “Dragon Spirit of White” from the GY with “Birthright”? When a card says “Discard a Normal Monster” can I discard a Gemini? Can I use “Cry Havoc” With a Gemini or “Dragon Spirit of White”? Can I use “Common Charity” with “Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry” or Summon any of the above monsters with the effect of “Daigusto Emeral”?

  • what happen if i déclare an attack with a cyberdark monster (horn for exemple) equiped with claw, and use the effect of claw to send elder entity n’tss and attempt to destroy the monster im attacking with n’tss ? is the monster detroyed before the battle occur ? and if so, can i replay the attack since the number of target change ? im kinda confuse with that. (also forgive my my awfull english, im a french viewer)

  • Hey, Coder. I love your articles and live streams. I have a question about Shaddoll Schism, and its send effect. When my opponent activates Schism on my turn in order to fusion summon a Light Monster like Shaddoll Construct, and I have Ultimate Conductor on my field, do I have the opportunity to respond With UCT’s quick effect when they are trying to activate the effect to send a monster on my field that is the same attribute as the fusion summoned monster, or has the fusion summon already occurred, and I can’t respond with UCT because the window isn’t there anymore? Thanks for your time!

  • Ok coder, here’s my scenario. I’m drawing through my entire deck to get to exodia. I get down to 2 cards in deck which are the last 2 exodia pieces. I proceed to battle phase for some dumb reason and declare an attack with any monster. My opponent chains a secret barrel that would theoretically kill me but I chain hand destruction allowing me to discard 2 cards and draw the last 2 exodia pieces. Would I win because of exodia effect or would I lose because secret barrel has to resolve first

  • Hi Coder ! Ruling question : if you have “temple of the kings” on your side of the field and you activate a trap that has an effect to set itself back instead of being sent to the graveyard (like a “scrap-iron scarecrow” or “subterror final battle”), are you allowed to activate that trap again during the same turn since temple of the kings states that you can activate trap cards the turn they were set ? Thanks a lot and keep up the good work !

  • In the examples you gave with torrential tribute, it was always the last card activated in the chain responding to the summon. Does it need to be the last card activated in the chain? Because if it’s not last on the chain, then when the chain resolves backward the last thing to have happened before torrential will be that other card resolving.

  • Hey Coder, I haven’t been able to find a conclusive answer to this but how does the card Mischief of the Time Goddess work under time? More Specifically: If it’s time in round and my opponent activates Mischief of the Time Goddess, does the duel continue until after the end of the next Battle Phase because it immediately skips to it or does the duel just end upon resolution?

  • Hi! I see enjoy these articles a lot. Anyways, Player A controls Lilith, lady of lamant and lair of darkness Player b summons raidraptor vanishing lanius. Player a then wants to activate Lilith’s effect, using lair of darkness to tribute vanishing lanius. Can player b active vanishing lanius’s effect, or does the effect lose to Lilith’s quick effect

  • Hello! Coming to you with a fresh question right from Duel Links: Why can’t I use my Draconia Normal Pendulum Monsters for White Elephant Gift? I get that Pend Monsters when removed from the field they instead go to the Extra Deck, but in this case a card is specifically sending it to the Graveyard. Why they are not valid targets AT ALL? I expected them to be send to the Graveyard (because the card says so) or at least be able to activate WEG and then the Draconia monster goes to the Extra Deck Sorry if this sounds as a stupid question, but I never played in the TCG 😛

  • Ruling Question: I control a Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons that was fusion summoned using Spiral Fusion to give it the extra 2600 attack. I have also used its own effect to have it gain 2600 attack after destroying something by battle, putting the Gaia at 7800. My opponent then uses forbidden droplet on the Gaia. What is it’s attack at now?

  • Hey Coder, The comment section was still divided on if you can or can’t activate Barricadeborg Blocker without a target by the end phase? Some things that we noted is that you can use such effects like Destiny Hero Decider (which would get a monster from the grave) even without a future target, while Psy-Framelord Lambda can’t which would get a monster from the deck during the EP. • Hey coder, rulling question if my opponent control a dragon maid shyaou and i have a lost wind on my field, i activate lost Wind target any dragon my opponent cotrols, they negate destroy and special summon other dragon maid from their extra deck, can i use the effect of lost wind in my gy to set it self or not?

  • If I Special Summon “Cyber Dragon” from my hand, my opponent chains “Thunder King Rai-oh” to negate the summon, I chain “Called by the Grave” on Rai-oh, and my opponent chains “El Shaddoll Fusion”, fusion 2 of his Shaddolls into “El Shaddoll Winda”: When the chain resolves, can I Special Summon 1 more monster this turn? Since the summon was only “successful” after Winda had already been summoned.

  • 1:40 The guy who asked about this got the result he wanted for the wrong reason. Since you ignore the ATK/DEF stats of “?” labeled monsters to be shared via Small World, only things left to similarize A Danger! monster to Eater of Millions and Eater of Millions to Gren Maju is Level/Attribute/Type, and since all non-Chupacabra Dangers to Eater correlation only share is DARK Attribute, and in the Eater to Gren Maju they only share the Fiend-type, it’s a valid procedure to get to Gren Maju added that way.

  • Got a ruling question! I saw an interaction at my locals regarding Triple Tactics Talent and Dingirsu. Player A has Orcustrated Babel on field, and has both Cymbal Skeleton and Dingirsu are in their GY. Player A has activated a monster effect in the Main Phase, and so Player B activates Triple Tactics in an open game state. Now what happens if Player A chains Cymbal Skeleton to summon the Dingirsu from GY in response to the Triple Tactics, and Player B takes control of the Dingirsu on resolution of Triple Tactics? Does Player A get to activate the Dingirsu, or is it the new controller, Player B, who activates the Dingirsu?

  • (This actually came up once for me.) So say i activate the effect of a monster unaffected by other card effects (Arrival Cyberse @ignister, Geomathmech Final Sigma, Raidraptor Ultimate Falcon, 4+ material Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus, etc.) and my opponent activates an effect that would negate the activation of the effect of the effect, a d not the effect itself. Does the effect get negated? Yes or no.

  • Got a Ruling Question that you might’ve answered already. Let’s give you a Scenario. If my Opponent activates a Spell and I choose to Negate the activation with a Monster Effect, Can they chain Infinite Impermanence? Since Spells being negated aren’t on the Field yet is it considered to be controlling that Spell?

  • Hey Coder, when I have a solemn strike set and my opponent uses the on-field effect of a flundereeze they just tribute summoned and wish to chain the effect of a small (now banished) flundereeze, can I strike the on field one or am I only allowed to use strike after they declared all their chainlinks? What about if I had solemn warning instead?

  • Hey Coder, if I have a set card (since last turn) and I activate lord of the heavenly prison in my hand to reveal and protect, and my opponent chains for example MST and I chain my set card. I can activate lord to summon from the hand after the chain resolves. Question is if I can use the part of the effect to set a spell/trap from deck now as well?

  • I got a two for one deal on here So i have Hang on Mach as level 6 and city grand prix on the field, and during the stand by phase my opponent activates artifat lancea, what are the repercussions? Also i have hang on mach level 7 purely though its own effect, and i get hit by imperm – does mach return to level 4, or does it just redusce its attack?

  • If my opponent is attacking me directly with Number 39: Utopia, and I activate Artifact Vajra in my hand to try and special summon itself, then my opponent uses Utopia’s effect to negate its own attack, what happens? What about if the opponent also has Double or Nothing in hand? What order should this stuff go in; did I have to commit to using the Vajra effect on the first attack attempt?

  • If I have a endymion master magician on field and a purple poison in my pendulum zone, and my opponent activates forbidden droplets and sends nothing but monsters to the graveyard and I chain wavering eyes in response. Can I than chain endymions negation effect to wavering eyes but choose to negate FD?

  • Hi coder, I’m a bit confused by one of the rulings you gave today: You said that you can only activate ghost mourner as CL1 as it is a trigger effect, and can’t activate it later in the chain, however later in the article you gave a ruling on how torrential tribute can activate at any point in a chain where the last action was a monster summons. Aren’t these rulings conflicting? For another example, if your ruling about mourner is correct, why can I chain droll to the activation of trickstar reincarnation, when droll is a trigger effect that has met its activation condition, so surely has to be CL1? Sorry if this is a dumb question

  • Hi, Coder! Cyberdark Horn is equipped with Cyberdark Claw and I declare attack. Then during the damage calculation I activate Cyberdark Claw effect and send to the graveyard Elder Entity Ntss, can the Ntss destroy a card during the damage calculation? It could even be the monster I have declared the attack on?

  • If my opponent has an active card in one of their pendulum zones and they activate another, in which I respond with the effect of Infernoid Onuncu, which my opponent chains Wavering Eyes to. Does the Wavering Eyes destroy both of the cards in the pendulum zones, or is the second Pendulum Zone not yet active in the zone, due to Onuncu being an attempted activation negation.

  • Hey Coder, I got one that’s weird, so Converging Wills Dragon has a hard OPT clause on being special summoned, but it also changes its own name in the graveyard to Majestic Dragon, so here’s where the question comes up, if you were to activate Synchro Overtake revealing Majestic Star Dragon to attempt to special summon the Converging Wills Dragon as Majestic Dragon during the turn it was special summoned via its own effect, is that a legal move due to it no longer being “Converging Wills Dragon”, or does it still count as trying to summon Converging Wills Dragon?

  • Player A uses Virtual World gate Qinglong to negate Player B’s zeus. On a separate chain, zeus uses it’s effect to detach 2 materials to attempt to wipe the board. Player B then chains Virtual World gate Chuche to destroy their own zeus. Since Zeus is no longer on the field, does it successfully wipe the board? What if infinite impermanence was used instead of Qinglong?

  • Need some clarification on flip effects. Say my opponent’s Photon Lord attacks my face-down Krawler Spine. Spine gets flipped, which allows it to target and destroy another monster they control. At which point can Photon Lord activate it’s effect to negate? Does it activate while Spine is still on the field? If so, would it activate Spine’s other effect to float, (assuming Photon Lord detached a galaxy card)?

  • I have a question about the Mekk-Knight main deck monsters: when I negate the summon of a Mekk-Knight for example blue sky can you summon him again? I was wondering because of the April 1 2020 (Certain cards have the text “You can only Special Summon (blank) once per turn” which means that you can only Special Summon card(s) with that name 1 time during this entire turn. Cards with this text will now only count the Summoning if the Summoning of a monster with that name was successful during the turn.)

  • Hey Coder, As i understand i can’t use Solemn Judgment to “attempt” to negate the summon of “Sophia, Goddess of Rebirth” or XYZ Summon of “Number S0: Utopic ZEXAL”. But i still can activate Solemn Judgment to “attempt” to negate Red-Eyes Fusion even with Meltdown on the field, or attemp to negate the activation of “Spiritualism”. Why? If all of those cards say “Cannot be negated”. Thanks in advance! Love your content! 😀

  • Hey coder, so maybe you can help me though this might wind up being an obvious one. I’ve been looking into roids recently and super vericroid-mobile base says “special summon 1 roid from deck or extra deck” if I summon a roid from my extra deck and that monster gets destroyed can it be revived by say monster reborn or no because it’s not a proper summon?

  • Hi Coder i have 2 questions In a scenario i have cyber drago herz in the field i active machine duplication what appen if my opponent attempt to stole with widown anchor for example or set it with book of moon? Second one what appen if i set an eldlich trap with floodgate trap hole it cannot be activate?

  • Hope I’m not too late. How does destiny Hero dasher resolve? Is it an activated effect that starts a chain or does it just resolve and you summon your draw. Follow up, if my opponent draws the card and puts in in their hand but then trys to declare where I can’t verify the monster they revealed is the card they drew for turn do they miss their window? I think the second the card is added to their hand the window is closed because it becomes hard to verify. Hope I worded this right, if anyone scrolling through comments also has the answer much appreciated.

  • Hey coder At which point can I activate the optional effect of a continous trap that is already face up on the field during my opponent’s turn? I’ve been told different things, some say that you can chain or activate those effects when my opponent does any action, just like a normal trap would work Others say that since its an effect of a face up card I can only chain it to activations from my opponent and not to other actions such as summons or to them atempting to go from a phase to other I’m really confused by this but I have a feeling the answer is rather clear and there’s just a bunch of misinformation going around, can you clarify this please?

  • Hey coder, I have a ruling question. If I have Virtual World Hime Nyan Nyan in my grave, and I activate The Phantom Knights Of Shade Brigandine. On resolution I activate a The Phantom Knights Of Stained Greaves to special summon itself and I choose to make it a level 4. Would this trigger the effect of Virtual World Hime Nyan Nyan in grave to special itself?

  • Judge question: player A has Raidraptor final fortress falcon in grave and one on field with only a Raidraptor xyz as material. Player B plays called by the grave on the final fortress in the graveyard. Does the Final fortress on field have it’s effect negated, and if not what happens if it uses it’s effect to detach the material?

  • Hi Coder Assuming I go turn 1 and set up a board, next turn my opponent goes straight to battle phase and activates Evenly Matched at the end of the battle phase, am I allowed to chain Artifact Lancea as CL2? Also, am I legally allowed to activate Lancea at the start of the battle phase or on the attempt to leave MP1?

  • Regarding unclassified effects of monsters face-down in the extra deck: Can odd-eyes fusion send muddy mudragon to summon rune-eyes, i.e. does muddy mudragon’s unclassified fusion-substitute-clause apply while face-down in the extra deck? If invincibility barrier banishes a synchro, does it affect star eater’s unclassified summon negation imperviousness?

  • Hey Coder, Szenario: I attack with D/D/D Wave Oblivion King Caesar Ragnarok a Bean Soldier, after the declaration i activate D/D/D Waves effect to equip a monster to this card. Can I equip a monster which is unaffected by monster/card effects? also can I equip a monster, like Red Eyes Dragoon which I cannot target ?

  • Hey coder I want to know since solens only negate the invocation of monsters or in some ways the cards involved invocations of monsters. Will the effect continue if the same card that summons or the same magic or trap that would invoked the monster that was negate for the solen would summon or just don’t?
