Mushrooms have been used in various cultures for ritual and religion, with the toxin psilocybin found in them. In contemporary witchcraft, these magical fungi have been integrated into spellcasting and ritual practices, such as creating altars, charms, and potions. In European cultures, mushrooms have a strong association with the magical realm, often connected with fairies, elves, and other mythical creatures. The image of a fairy circle is particularly significant in these cultures.
Magic mushrooms have been used sacramentally and medicinally across cultures worldwide, from Central America to Siberia. They are often associated with witchcraft and evil, with names like Devil’s Fingers, Witches’ Butter, or Hexenpils. Amanita muscaria, also known as Hexenpils in Austria, was believed to be used by witches in their potions. The main instrument of witchcraft was believed to be magic and spells casted using natural elements like herbs, roots, and mushrooms.
Mushrooms have also been used in witchcraft, with texts linking Mazatec mushroom use to witchcraft and divination. The Boss Mystic Podcast Network, founded by N Spiers, is a growing home to witchcraft podcasts, including two of her own, The Boss Mystic and True Crime. The ancient origin of magic mushrooms goes back thousands of years, and they have been used in various forms of witchcraft, including magical crafting, witchcraft rituals, and witchcraft books.

This video was inspired by unique gecko – so thank you! Mushroom magic powder is one of the high points of the autumn foraging …
I learned after study of mushrooms. Which I love mushrooms. Unless store bought the majority of the ones with fans Are poisonous. But the shrooms with spores on bottom or ridges on side. Are usually ok if you cook them. If you plan on eating them. But anyone should have a field manual when forging. There was a program called fantastic fungi on Netflix. 👌 really good.
So glad Bex did the collab with you, I am really enjoying your articles! I have worked with mushroom for magick and healing for several years, and definitely feel their power and magick. I connect with them by intuition and researching not their properties, but their life. I find you can learn so much about the energy botanicals contain this way 🙂 I work with them for protection, communication with mundane and spirits, grounding and more. I make my own tinctures, double extraction are best as some properties are alcohol soluble and others water, as well as oil infusions for skincare with a little extra moonlight glow and as edible dual extraction powders that I purchase from a Canadian Company I love supporting! Each mushroom has it’s own unique energy for healing and workings and it’s such a beautiful connection to the spirit of land. Many blessings! Kayla
I’m so curious to know if your daughter is also a witch. Can anyone become a witch? If I can choose to be a witch, how do I choose a wand? Thank you!! Mental note to self: Dont eat any berries (just berries?) after Halloween (I currently live in a major city so unfortunately I dont pick my own produce I buy at the market) Will likely buy some drier dried mushrooms off Amazon this week to use as a circle of protection on Halloween as I feel it is going to be a busy night for my manifestations and I want to be safe.
Dried and crushed mushrooms are the ONLY way I can sneak mushrooms into my cooking if I want my Son to eat. Picky bugger is 19 and STILL won’t try them! Meanwhile my daughter loves eating fried mushies with me for breakfast. I am adding this to my book! I think I will use it as an added way to attract the fae to my garden ❤❤❤ Thank you so much!
