Tarot card readings have long been a subject of fascination, mystery, and skepticism. Some view them as a powerful tool for insight and guidance, while others dismiss them as a mere scam. However, tarot cards are generally safe as they are a form of spiritual or reflective practice that doesn’t involve physical risk. The accuracy of tarot readings is a nuanced one, as it does not predict the future with absolute precision.
Tarot cards have a long history of being associated with divination and the occult, which can have psychological and emotional implications. It is crucial to approach tarot card readings with caution and responsibility, as they may have psychological and emotional implications. One potential risk is becoming overly dependent or reliant on tarot readings.
A tarot reading is no more dangerous than reading a Bible verse and getting guidance. The biggest risk is becoming psychologically addicted to pulling cards for every teeny tiny question. Tarot cards were created by Christians as a pictorial lesson.
If there is any cause for concern, it is how Tarot readings are presented rather than the content itself. Tarot readings can be addictive, and if approached without caution or discernment, they can pose a risk to you.
Online tarot readings may not give perfect results, but this does not make them unreliable. Although visiting a psychic may seem harmless and fun, it can lead you down some supernatural roads that are dangerous for your soul.

Is manifesting a sin?
Manifestation is a manipulation of influence to be honored, rather than honoring God. Romans 1:21-26 offers cautionary wisdom, reminding us that those who knew God chose to resist the opportunity to honor Him, leading to darkened hearts and fools. Many people have exchanged the immortal God for images and the truth about God for a lie, serving the creature instead of the Creator. It is important to avoid serving the creature instead of the Creator and to assess cultural trends presented as Scripture. The enemy twisted Scripture to tempt Eve to eat the fruit, and this same trick is still being used today.
Can anybody read tarot cards?
Tarot is a popular and accessible tool for anyone, according to author Michelle Tea. She believes that learning tarot involves becoming comfortable with the imagery, learning them by heart, and understanding how the cards interact. Tea’s book, Modern Tarot: Connecting with Your Higher Self through the Wisdom of the Cards, provides a beginner’s guide to tarot, guiding readers through each card in a deck, sharing reading tips, and ways to incorporate tarot into self-care practices. Tea emphasizes that anyone can learn tarot, as long as they are comfortable with the imagery and understand how they flow into a story.
Is it OK to read tarot to yourself?
Making predictions for yourself in Tarot reading is not always the best approach, as it can be challenging due to the fluctuating details and timing of the cards. Being too involved and having expectations can negatively impact the results. The energy of the reader is crucial, and it influences the cards drawn. The best results are achieved when asking short-term questions, such as the same day or week, or long-term questions, which can be difficult to predict due to the fluctuating nature of the details and timing. Therefore, it is recommended to consult a professional for accurate predictions.
What not to do when reading tarot?
Reading Tarot cards can be a powerful tool for self-discovery, but it’s important to avoid making mistakes. Some common mistakes include pulling out the deck immediately after a challenging encounter, choosing the wrong spread, adding too many clarifiers, looking up too many card meanings, and reading about others’ feelings or motives. Additionally, doing multiple readings on a topic in one sitting can lead to frustration and confusion.
Tarot cards and other divination techniques won’t work if you aren’t in a clear state of mind. While it’s possible to read for yourself if you have a preferred outcome, it’s crucial to be in a neutral, calm space to accurately read for yourself. The worst time to do a Tarot reading is when you most want the answer, as this can lead to a more confusing and frustrating experience. Therefore, it’s essential to be in a neutral, calm space when reading for oneself.
Is tarot card reading true?
Early French occultists claimed that tarot cards had esoteric links to ancient Egypt, the Kabbalah, Indic Tantra, or the I Ching. However, scholarly research reveals that tarot cards were invented in Italy in the early 15th century for playing games, and there is no evidence of significant use of them for divination until the late 18th century. The belief in the divinatory meaning of the cards is closely associated with a belief in their occult properties, which was propagated by prominent Protestant Christian clerics and Freemasons.
From its uptake as an instrument of divination in 18th-century France, the tarot went on to be used in hermeneutic, magical, mystical, semiotic, and psychological practices. It was used by Romani people when telling fortunes and as a Jungian psychological apparatus for tapping into “absolute knowledge in the unconscious”, a tool for archetypal analysis, and even a tool for facilitating the Jungian process of individuation.
Why don’t tarot cards work?
The interpretation of a tarot card depends on the questions asked, card combinations used, and spreads used. Standard card meanings may not be suitable for a specific context. It’s important to ask “How can I interpret this card in this specific reading?” instead of “What does this card mean?” This approach is not taught in courses like my Tarot Foundations program, which covers all 78 tarot cards.
Is it good to get a tarot reading?
A tarot reading can help clients build confidence in making quality life decisions and find inner wisdom from past, present, and future situations and challenges. The session begins with the reader picking 10 cards from their pack, followed by discussions about the cards. The reader’s accuracy is impressive, as she can provide insights about past events that are impacting the client now. Although the session may be a bit confusing due to the use of other cards from her pack, the accuracy of the reading is impressive.

Are tarot cards against Christianity?
The Bible warns against sorceries, divination, soothsaying, fortunetelling, mediums, and spiritists. Tarot cards can be used for divination and fortunetelling, but they can also be used for meditation or exploring archetypes. The modern Tarot began as tarocchi, sets of playing cards and learning devices, and fortunetelling was not involved. Early Biblical mentions against such practices include not eating pork, trimming beards, getting tattoos, cutting hair, eating oysters, going to church within 40 days of giving birth, working on the Sabbath, eating fat, touching a goat, or selling land permanently. Some scholars believe these rules were put in place to prevent women from having an active role in spiritual leadership.
In modern American churches, an attitude against astrology is common. Genesis 1:14 indicates that God’s people are meant to use heavenly bodies as signs, guides, and portents. The practice of astrology involves using stars as signs, as the three wise men used this practice to follow the Star in the East.
📹 Are Tarot Cards Safe?
Can Tarot be dangerous? Do you need to protect yourself before you do a reading? Should you avoid Tarot if you want to stay …
Literally my dad is a pastor and when I started getting into tarot, he said he didn’t want me to do it because “that’s how you invite demons into your soul.” Personally I believe it’s more psychological than spiritual. It’s a way to tap into my subconscious and project my thoughts/desires/fears onto the cards to get a better understanding of myself and my situations.
To me Tarot is safe. I don’t associate any mystic or magic things with the tarot. I use it for thinking, self development and creative ideas. I also think my introduction to Tarot was a bit more practical and analytical, as my first deck was the Osho Zen, which emphasizes the here and now. I like your hair as well, great style 🙂
I’ve recently been drawn to the beautiful art of tarot cards and would love to learn more about them but due to my strong Christian background I have wondered if they may or may not invite negative spirits or what not. But this article has really helped! I will definitely be purchasing a deck and getting to know it as a friend. I can’t wait to explore my inner self!
I was raised in a Christian home and any types of divination were automatically condemned as being evil or of the devil lol. Thankfully when I hit my teenage years I rebelled against Christianity even to the extreme opposite end. Now I’m more open minded and have studied many esoteric arts. And I’m realistic about things which may cause problems. Having studied martial arts over the past has also opened up my intuition which was really there all along.
I was drawn to tarot cards and astrology since I was in my teens but since my parents were religious fanatics I learned to keep my interests a secret. I finally can’t deny my inclination for the my natural gift of intuition. I now understand Tarot is a tool to help empower people to make better choices Astrology is also your spiritual psychology. I truly believe when you use these tools in this way you can be more decisive about your decisions how to live your life with self knowledge. Nothing about these two, tarot and astrology is itself magical or even divination meaning prophetic. Which the reason most of religious community is against. That the future belongs to God and we shouldn’t divine our futures. But astrology had survive centuries with mathematical accuracy and tarot had been helpful revealing answers for those who needed it. So I truly believe it the intent of reader that makes the difference. I suggest to every one to remember that tarot is a tool that not prophetic but suggestive answers for the final outcome. But your intent how to make the outcome happen is left to their freewill.
Nicely said. I had a very negative experience in my younger years with tarot or at least I had thought I did at the time, and avoided it for many years although I was very much drawn to it. To this day I can’t say for sure if it had anything to really do with tarot, it could have been pure coincidence or my preconceived fears that drove the negative activity. Presently, i have been reading tarot for almost a decade and only experience positive results such as learning and growth through my readings. I agree with everything you said except the whole prediction of future events things. I do believe tarot can predict the future successfully. Though, through time and experience I have come to understand it’s never the cards that are wrong, it’s my interpretation.
Due to being raised Catholic N then became born again Christian in my teen years I had a fear of Tarot attracting negative entities. It didn’t stop me though from getting readings from time to time. (was always fascinated by it I guess) Since my awakening tho I am really desirous of learning how to read Tarot for myself and others. Really appreciate this article and you definitely cleared up any lingering fears that I still might of been holding on to. Thank you! 😊
Growing up in a Christian home anything in that realm of things was evil. As I grew up I felt that it was just a scam. When i left the church i did allot of soul searching. when witchcraft presented itself to again i felt very drawn to it, which brought me to getting my first tarot deck. there was an immediate bond with it. I am now very intrigued and love it. I’ve learned allot from your articles, even though i may take it a little to serious but then again i see it as guide and not set in stone.
I had my first tarot deck when I was about 19 or so. I am not even sure what happend to it along my journey of life. But I have gotten back into it. I have always followed astrology, since about 10 years old. I also became a Christian around the same time. I have believed that intentions are everything in anything you do. If you are following the example of Christ, He did not always do things that the pharisees would agree with, and yet He reached people with Love that the religous could not. I use them to reach people in love as well, and help them to have direction, guidance, peace or even be more prepared. Everyone has their own free will, but the cards are helpful tools, as is an clairvoyence or other abilities. Being sure of WHO you are asking the questions to (God/Jesus/Holy Spirit) can protect you from answers from the evil ones. Satan masquerades as an angel of light. Talking directly to God, thru Jesus at His right hand, can keep your answers free from the twisting. I see a lot of other Christians commenting here and I hope my understanding can help someone else in not having fear, but having faith and covering themselves. The heavenly hosts surround us in protection and go to battle for us daily in the spiritual realm! 🙏
I was apprehensive, for all the talk around tarot. I found your opinion very logical, balanced and soothing.I liked your approach (your outlook resonates with mine) and everything you had to say about it. Especially the analogy where you say it’s like your best friend and take the advice with the grain of salt. I donot know why I got sort of weird bad dreams last night. I just went through a tarot book before going to bed. It could have been due to my apprehension. But after perusal your article I am looking forward to this journey of learning. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Being raised mostly Christian by my mother and her having horrible experiences with ouji boards. She taught me that tarot was evil. I am 31 years old and definitely went my own way spiritually, I am not Christian. I consider myself an Omnist. I recently have been feeling a strong call to tarot but have lingering fear from my mother. I decided to purchase a deck and a book on tarot. I also bought a beautiful small tapestry to set them up on when I finally do a reading (haven’t done it yet). I am part native and plan on cleansing the room and deck with sage, getting out some crystals, setting a positive intention and going for it!! Thanks for this article
My mother did tarot all my upbringing, especially when i was young. She taught me a lot of it but she was very specific about me not touching her deck. She offered to get me my own (that I no longer have 🙁 ). I over time grew quite fearful of her deck and together with stupid ignorant pranks from my peers involving other spiritual things like ouija I distanced myself quite violently from the whole deal. I think it was disappointing to my mother that I never nurtured any talent I might’ve inherited but I’m grateful she never forced me to overcome it. I never stopped being interested tho I think I’ll pick up tarot again. Something simple for myself, I think I’ll pick up a new deck and just have it for a while and see how I feel.
Hi. I am new to tarot, and was afraid of them due to my early religious upbringing. But now that I am an adult who can think for herself, I am more open minded, and look at tarot as a guide to help me develop my intuition. I have been feeling more “in touch “with my higher self since I bought my first deck last week. I don’t get too serious about it, read all about the subject, and trust my intuition.
Be nice to your deck, once in a while, sort it out, make sure the cards are in order, that they are all still there. Look over them and just in general make sure the deck is in order. Like you I don’t cleanse my deck daily, I rather just shuffle the cards a few time and let it soak up the energy. Get into the right mood to do a reading. After a reading I thank the deck for the insights it offered me and it goes back into its wooden box.
Love this description! “Inner landscape.” Really well said. Thanks for this. I’m going to share this with folks whenever they raise their eyebrows at me. I was definitely someone who grew up in a tradition that said Tarot was dangerous and a religious affront. When I was about 19, suddenly, a couple friends started talking about their readings and I became totally intrigued, and I’ve been reading for about 17 years, now. But I think it was dipping my toe in the water and exploring the concept of being able to take a more active role in my own life that kept me going.
My grandma used to do some prediction and I had moment, when I lost my cat and suddenly I remember about taro…so I found them and do some spread, and they helped me to calm and to have a positive vibe, even some cards were like dangerous, but as you mention it is all about intention and death card won’t mean 100% death! Now I would like to start exploring this part of me, as I believe, I have talent to read through such things…And I am really glad to discover your website and thank you for your vibe!
Thank you! My comment would be that I have Never feared tarot. It is very intuitive and personal, and I ve always believed in free will, so it means we can always choose to embrace a situation or avoid it! The cards are great as a mind and eye opener as well as advisers; and the more we know (more clarity we have), the better. 🙂
I believe there is evil in tarot cards, especially if you don’t know how to protect yourself. I won’t go into detail here, but I had such a terrifying experience with ouija, that I prayed and prayed for Jesus to help. After being ‘cleansed’, I prayed for guidance about using tarot and following my prayers, each time I reached for a deck, I had a migraine. In fact I have had two tarot decks and both have literally disappeared following my prayers. I only ever performed 2 tarot readings for other people. Both readings were astoundingly accurate. They alerted about things in these friends lives, I previously knew nothing at all about. They were so accurate, I couldn’t bring myself to tell a friend what the cards were really saying about her relationship for fear of creating some sort of self fulfilling prophecy. Because of the accuracy, I decided that I wasn’t websiteling my energy/spirit, but something else, which is why I prayed for guidance and why steer clear of them. The temptation to return to using tarot is always there. Personally, I can’t go back to using them, because I don’t want to risk bringing evil into my home and I now have a mental block anyway.
Thank u so much for doing this article!! I was raised in a conservative non-denominational Christian household, believing that tarot is “evil” and/or symbolic of the occult. Had my first tarot reading that a friend did for me on my birthday this past May, and she had me shuffle the deck, and laid out the deck face-down, asking me to pick which cards “stuck out” or felt right to choose. I asked 2 questions that were related to the same situation, and was blown away by how accurate the reading was!! I’m also very sensitive to discerning good & bad energies, and never once felt anything negative nor bad during the reading. I finally decided to buy my first tarot deck, it’s Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti, and is the same deck I chose of the 4 decks this friend offered to do my reading. Something about it just spoke to me, and the colors & imagery are just STUNNING!! 😍 anyways, I’m in the beginning of learning my deck, actually watched ur article about tips for learning the deck which I found extremely helpful, so thank u for making that article as well. My deck was the set which includes “Easy Tarot Handbook” by Josephine Ellershaw, also a very helpful and valuable resource as I begin this journey. If I may ask, another friend of mine has rune stones…would these be similar to tea leaf reading and tarot VS Ouija boards or do they website/communicate with spirits?? I haven’t done anything with them before, and what I like (and agree with u on) about tarot is they’re introspective; self-enlightening.
Very informative, clear, and reassuring! I was nervous about Tarot at first over a year ago but gradually I’ve come to respect it. I have been intrigued by its meanings over time because a friend of mine has given me somewhat reliable readings since then; also, perusal your articles every week has mellowed my perception of the tellings in general. You and my friend both have inspired me to write a wandering Fae creature who tells people about their destinies with his deck of fortune cards in a fantasy book series I’m writing.
Hi Kate and just want to say i love the way you orchestrate your conversation and thank you for all your wonderful insights. I first read tarot for fun when my daughter was expecting her first child so 17 years ago. We always read to each other for fun. I agree with you that religious beliefs could cause doubt, that tarot is bad. Honestly, i also had to overcome that; my first deck was an R.W.Smith and after a friend convinced me it was bad i actually pitched it in the garbage can! I read from the Elemental Tarot for myself and friends now. I think you said it best, that as long as we don’t take it too seriously; like we would the guidance from a good friend then we can use Tarot as a positive tool on our life path. Namaste
Tarots are just cards. What they do is help people hone their own inner knowing, intuition. The cards themselves have no power. They can and do absorb the energies of the person who uses them. I use the full moon to charge my deck. This works well for most of my crystals as well. I’ll never fully ‘clear’ my deck as it was given to me by my friend. It had been given to him for his 16th birthday by his mother. I like having a little of him lingering on the cards. (Lost him Feb. 2010. – Anyone ever hear of Chaz Hall?) I also sleep with my cards as near to me as possible, usually they’re under my pillow, with my crystal ball. Chaz taught me this as a way to blend my energies with the cards. Also this ensures that no one can ever imbibe my cards with anything negative. As far as Ouija goes, that is not a toy. Never use one alone. I’ve had to expel enough ‘negative energies’ from enough people, rooms, and buildings thanks to people playing with them. Also please don’t call spirits through mirrors. Just as with spirit boards, you never know for sure what spirits are responding to you. Why do little girls love playing bloody Mary in school restrooms? Don’t do that. I was also taught that you don’t buy your first deck of tarot cards. They’re supposed to be a gift from someone who loves you. Keep up the good work with the readings. Peace and Many Blessings.
Thank you for this discussion. Just getting into Tarot, and this question was there to a small degree, so thanks for dispelling any misgivings whatsoever. By the way, I love your room. I’m renting in an old house at the moment, but I have a lot of plants on a shelf in the window and I have the exact same colored walls. It’s warm and soothing.
Hi Kate! I think that was the most level-headed and sensible approach and analysis of the Tarot I have ever heard! You put it so wonderfully, and I should imagine you will have comforted a great many frightened people about the cards. They are only cards after all – interesting, beautifully designed and very useful they may be for the ‘subconscious’; things we already know – but in our ‘subconscious’. I feel exactly as you do. What drew me to Tarot was nothing more than the sheer beauty of the designs of the various decks – that’s it! Anything else was a bonus! As for the mystical superstition surrounding them, one might as well say if you were playing a Poker game using ordinary Playing Cards and you were dealt a good hand, you’d say you were probably going to be lucky tonight it is perhaps going to be a good night because you stand a good chance of winning the game! Just as if you’d been dealt a hopelessly bad hand – you will probably lose… Nothing more than that, but it’s only your mind (no external magical powers) interpreting more simply really what your common sense tells you by the hand you have been dealt!
Energy follows thought, and so intent is paramount. If someone fears tarot, if they truly believe that it could open them to spirits, then it probably would be best for them to not engage in any work with it because their own fear could potentially cause them to have a bad experience. (until such a point when their thoughts and intentions change, that is.) So that is true that it isn’t so much that the tarot itself is actually linked to any evil spirits (except for the Thoth tarot, that is), but that one’s own intentions have power. If someone isn’t comfortable it is best to not. If they recognize it as a tool for self-reflection and to better connect to their own inner guidance, then all speed ahead.
I think it can be dangerous depending on the mindset of the person not all are mentally healthy. Also we have free will and it should never be used to alter or bend someone’s will. Any use that discourages healthcare or medicine is wrong. I went in a shop and the retailer went on about her selection of authentic merchandise she was aggressive and obsessive. I knew she had surrounded herself with items that she shouldn’t be dabbling in. She was drawn toward me and I found her energy to be draining. We all have discernment for protection and some do have gifts but not all. If you do have sight you don’t even need the cards or to know their traditional meaning it just naturally comes to you.
I have done it tarot cards for a few months January February March and I was getting good at them being able to read them and actually getting everything that I was wanting through the cards but then I started asking the deck if there’s even more questions and was starting to feel negative energy straight down demonic feelings being around me having panic attacks depersonalization do you realization
I have to disagree. Tarot cards are all about prediction. And yes I take them seriously. It’s always best to have a teacher or mentor if you are learning and unsure of interpreting the cards, as well as consider having a good reader read for you and not do card spreads for yourself. If you are really good, then have a reader double check your findings. Tarot cards are tools to use for divination. (My personal opinion)
It’s not a simple question. Some people are more “open” and susceptible to nefarious energies and may not even know it. A general rule for ANY practice that engages energies should have methods for protection and cleansing, especially if you have contact with multiple clients. I got contaminated once by a bad energy because the energy worker was careless or ignorant. It is no joke. Mystical stuff (like ouija boards) can be portals (windows) for unwanted visitors, even if you don’t believe it. Why tempt it? Know what you are dealing with.
I’ve gotten tarot readings from a very intuitive friend of mine, and it was way more informative then the average reading I’ve gotten cause she got messages from other spirits (angels, spirit guides, etc.) . So maybe it also depends on ones psychic ability and their own style of reading, because i know some readers say they get info from their guides, angels, etc ?And others say they get info from their intuition, which I’m assuming is connected to all this. I’m just never sure what to ask or direct my questions to because i believe a card deck is just a card deck by itself.
I know some readers say they get info from their intuition and not spirits, but i believe oud intuition is automatically connected to our higher self, spirit guides, ancestors, and God/spirit. I think there really is a connection to entities such as guides or angels we all have but may not even realize. Our intuition seems to be for our highest good, so doesn’t that mean the spirits or our higher self helping us are positive by nature already? I don’t see how it could be demonic like some religious people say, or just solely communicating with your own consciousness. I’m trying to deconstruct from pentecostal Christianity and it’s quite the journey to get over the fear of everything they taught
FUN FACT: The Ouiji board is actually a board game for learning words, for younger kids. Then all of the sudden “spirits ghosts and demons” started communicating through the ouji (which is actually your conciousness) and now the ‘new definition’ of the oiuji is something evil with evil ghosts demons and spirits etc.. And that negative energy actually does attract negative spirits and stuff.
Hi Daily Tarot Girl & YouTubers hope You all doing fine! what if a person just likes the Art work designs on the Tarot cards and wants to Collect them is that fine? And what should be done to clear them of Energys from other people handling the Tarot cards before buying & owning the Tarot cards? Thanks!
I can say for me Tarot is a way to meet people in the middle of where they are and the artwork is so beautiful and often the artist and author are different people who work together to create something unique. Taking spiritual knowledge and bringing it into the physical life experience. Always use your free will and make your own best choices. And true about NOT taking it so seriously especially in online general readings cuz its not just your energy its a collective energy. Thx for this article do you mind if I repost?
This might sound weird but lately I been into this kind of stuff, I even had a dream that I was in my grandma’s house and I found a set of tarot cards in her closet and I was so tempted to use them but I didn’t. Anyways I made a set of cards and I’m really want to give it a go but I read somewhere that it can bring negative energies, so I was holding back because I wouldn’t like to mess up with anything like that, i also read if you’re afraid you shouldn’t do it until you feel confident, but thank you for clarifying :)!
I’ve never een afraid of Tarot I just couldn’t figure out how to use them. I was given a Waite deck many years ago and coldn’t relate to them at all. I really do not like the way they look at all. Several years later I got the Thoth and I had a similar reaction to them. I still won’t use them and I definately avoid anything having to do with Crowley. What I think now is that I just wasn’t ready. BTW I think your articles are great.
Hello I just recently got introduced to tarot and I truly love it, and everyone I tell about it says that’s witchcraft or demonic, also magic, so I’m just trying to research because I don’t want any bad energies around, I don’t read, I have a deck but I recently put it away until I get to the bottom of this… One more thing, I had a dream last night and it was a man with black eyes he looked evil ready tarot, but it didn’t look like he was just reading, it looked like he was crafting, I’m just need answer I don’t want to give it up but I will if I have to…. But your article was really helpful thank you…
My experience has been..wonderful….i just started…some how i feel i was lead to…i cleansed them with sage…..however my intent when i received the message to learn…was to give inspiration…thats all…i do believe that spirit guides are with me and lead me…so i really appreciate this article…I’m allowing spirit guides and the angels to show me how…i love it..😇😇😇😊😊
Thanks for this article! I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression as well as struggled to stay connected to the world spiritually. Along with doing many other more practical things, I’ve recently gotten back into tarot readings as a means of dealing with those issues. The trouble is I’ve kinda become sort of addicted. I’ll go on binges, sometimes getting readings multiple times a day. Theres a ton of websites out there with free computer generated tarot readings, and those have been my primary source for readings. I’ll often get readings that are very similar form different websites, (or at least I interpret them that way) and often times they’ll include a card like death or the tower. Its funny because I was manically doing all of these automated readings to ease my anxiety but all that was doing was multiplying it ten fold! Your article is helping me to realize that maybe I am looking into tarot too literally.
Just discovered your website and website and i want to thank you kate for making the tarot so clear and simple. i have been doing oracle and tarot cards for about twelve years for myself only) and have not had any negative experiences. you are so right in saying that it is a way of connecting with your inner self. i use it to clear things up or checking to see if i’m heading in the right direction with life and stuff. i don’t see tarot as a prediction to the future because we have this little thing called free will. and the future keeps on changing because of that. anyway that’s just my opinion. thanks again for your amazing work and i send you joy light and love. Laurika (:
One more thing Kate. My spiritual studies with various teachers has always been more shamanic in orientation. By that I mean, through story and the natural world around us we can find the meanings to our life. I use the Wildwood Tarot. So I see Tarot as a representation or extension of our ” stories” through the visual representation on each card. It’s easier to comprehend when we have something tangible to ” see”. And so that is how I explain Tarot to clients. Our soul path leads us to many choices in this lifetime and so when we are at such a cross road, Tarot can simply help show us various possibilities to help us with our decisions. It puts my clients in control. Empowered clients are relaxed and open to readings more often.
Love your articles! I was able to find and order a cheap card deck, many have said it’s basic but very accurate. Tarot cards are quite pricy. 😢 Ever since I was a young girl I’ve been fascinated with tarot cards&readings. Just having a mere suggestion to how your present or future could be has always intrigued me. Growing up with a highly religious mother has instilled in me fear and hesitation towards any spiritual, psychic, magical or metaphysical thing, but I’ve always felt tarot was harmless and fun. However, I would never use a Ouija board, for me that’s crossing a line. Hopefully, next time I’ll have enough to buy myself a crystal visions deck!😊
Agree with you 200% i too feel that they are my friends more closer than any human friend 😀n i firstly got scared after perusal one article about negative stuff about readers can have danger n they must burn their decks or gift those all to some practitioner…n i m doing reading cards since so long after perusal that you tube article of a tarot reader i was like “man than why you are keeping this danger closer to you.ypu should also gift or burn ur decks…dont you love your life ?😀😀 seriously why these people misguiding n scaring other readers ? I totally go for intentions like you dear…you said it right if intentions are pure all is positive n good. Namaste🙏🏻😇Love n light from India❤
6:40 -> ” what you said about intention really drew me in out of the abundant amount of information on YouTube in regards to the topic of tarot reading being evil. The reason is because one’s intention good or bad applies to anything we do. We can read the Bible for the intention of finding a scripture to judge some one who pissed us off, where the Bible should be for spiritual growth and maturity. There are many bad intentions as well as good. It doesn’t only apply to tarot. So, if one has an epiphany to stop reading tarot because they feel a bad spirit, what’s next? Did you give up fornication, jealousy, envy, strife, adultery, fowl language, etc too?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding this subject. My son recently found out that I have tarot cards and told me I was dabbling with the Devil. I have used tarot for years and have never had a problem. As you say, it is more a technique for guidance, not set in stone. I agree that any negativity in the cards is probably transmitted by ourselves and it is more important to go into the reading with lightness and a positive attitude. Many people talk about using a bubble of protection before reading tarot but I don’t see a great deal of difference between using a pack of playing cards or the tarot. Playing cards were also used for divination purposes. I am really pleased that you took the time to make this article and I’m sure that it will allay everyone’s fears. Thank you 🙂
I like the tip about not taking it too seriously and to take it with a grain of salt. I’m new to tarot and I think I may be using it to try to get an answer for a really complicated situation I’m in, I think it can help me learn about myself. But unfortunately only I can decide how to handle this situation when it comes down to it 😩
This is very interesting, to be honest I want to expand my psychic abilities Because I feel I am very sensitive so, and i would love to connect with something higher than my physical realm to understand better, to transcend my own body, so I don’t know, am I opening gates Because first of all I don’t believe in some religion, I believe in the power of nature and universe but nothing more and I don’t want to mess with something I don’t know. I sense I could be a healer, I’m really interested in chamanism and esoteric knowledge but my mom is so scared that I’m opening gates and I don’t feel so, I could eventually do it for others and make my hobbie something that can bring be certain income. Someone may enlight me please
I did have a little apprehension of tarot, so I bought a deck 2 years ago just to dabble a bit in it and see what it was about. I pulled a card and it was the nine of swords, upright, and I understood immediately what it meant. I was so shocked at the accuracy of just this one card I pulled, that I was scared and put the deck away for two years, only this year, taking it out again and working with it. Every time I pull cards, this deck is so spot on, it’s scary, it is the Robin Wood deck, love it for it’s honesty and direct meanings. I am still very slowly working and learning the tarot, off and on. This was such a nice article. You explained everything precisely and in a way that is totally understandable. Yes, “cleansing yourself”…I need a lot of that 🙂 Thanks Kate, and have a fantastic weekend. Oh, and it was great to actually see you in the article, you look lovely 🙂
i think tarot is just cards remember thay r made by humans not some magical beings right ? whats magical about it is when u read and learn from them, and uk even if u see something negative tarot never says to avoid it, it saying ul go trough it, and tarot is just saying about all human experiences and helping u with them, and it kinda opens ur mind and making u understand some things better, and something negative that might appear its not scary its actually something to go for without fear and if it truly is scary and the cards where right ? then thats ok thats good because we learn not only with good but bad experiences too, what made us what we r is what we learned and what we experienced so avoiding something ur scared of is not helping u progress and learn more and be a better person and be stronger its just holding u bck
i love your approach! im just starting to get to know my deck and your articles have been very useful! I came a little drunk home the other night and tried to do a reading, none of it made sense and i just felt more confused, so I decided not to do it with my spirit uneasy. seeing this vídeo i know now why that is correct
It’s super cool you did a article on this topic. I believe this to be a problem, even beyond tarot, as you said. I personally never felt this way, but many people do. Especially with this overemphasis on Christianity (mainly speaking to our western culture here in the U.S.). Nothing wrong with being Christian if you are, but that doesn’t make other things wrong or not pure. This certainly isn’t implying that it is exclusive to religion, just saying it is common to feel that way about tarot if you were raised that way. I ascribe to the idea that tarot is more to help you think about things in a different way, or perhaps to help you shed your ego on a particular topic or issue so you can think about things with a bit more wisdom or different context. Gain some perspective. It can be easy sometimes to get wrapped up in your position/confusion about something. Tarot to me allows you to not be so precious about your approach and gain understanding, maybe think about something you hadn’t considered previously. We are taught to avoid real things and not do the hard work of self reflection. This is like you said, akin to a friend saying hey you may want to look at this from a different angle and/or consider these things over here. It’s funny how fragile your belief structure is if you can’t try and reach a higher state of consciousness or inner wisdom without it meaning your system is totally undermined…. May want to consider why that is. Seems counterproductive and a complete oxymoron of what religion and spirituality are supposed to bring to you in the first place.
Fear is the real danger. When you say ”how to protect yourself” you make people scared. Nobody has the power over you!!!! What to fear? Tarot readings have to do with the reader, it is as if you are telling people to be afraid of themselves!!! Our subconscious mind and the collective unconscious is the source of knowledge. Let’s sort things out.
I started a website about nearly 1 month ago because I was always feeling having these abilities to transfer messages to people as I have visions etc…but I stopped this last week as I got scared about all these things people say and I lost my 2 pets and I connected it that it is my fault because I am attracting evil spirits and all these beliefs that others use to say all the time. But this article that I accidentally came onto was the most helpful I ever watched and helped me to understand a lot and overcome my fears and shift my beliefs as well. I am really grateful to you for sharing this with us. Thank you ❤ 🙏
I feel trapped with tarot. I’ve become too reliant and obsessive with the cards. I’m beginning to almost regret ever picking them up in the first place, but I don’t know how to pull away. I don’t think they’re evil, but I keep getting the same cards in regards to a major life decision and it’s not the one I want. It’s scaring me, and causing me to feel even more trapped than I do due to current life circumstances. I’m sure it’s my fault, I’m using them as a prediction tool instead of a way to better myself. But I don’t know how to stop, or what to do. The idea that they could be predictive feels terrifying. The feeling of having no control over my life feels terrifying.
I grew up with a rabidly dogmatic Christian mother who led me to believe that anything and everything outside of her chosen denomination of Christianity was somehow wrong. I had a lot of questions as a child and thankfully no one managed to squelch my curiosity despite their best attempts. People fear what they don’t understand. Ignorance is not bliss. Haha. It’s filled with fear and misinformation. And also lacking in a lot really cool opportunities.
I belong to Pisces I was born in 5th March I’m aiming to buy a deck of Tarot cards I find myself so much attached to moon and according to palmistry I have a big moon portion in my hand and I have a water hand( my fingers are long and hand is rectangular) I was thinking that is buying a * deviant moon Tarot deck will be good for a beginner I find myself resonated by it and I saw it on YouTube I am just 18 and i am from India and your article was healthy and helpful thank you so much
What if I bought my deck at a thrift store? Should I discard them and get a new an unused deck? Since the new deck will have my spirit and my own energy. I’m kind of hesitant of using the deck because it’s used. My house is already haunted like it has ghosts and other weird stuff like that. I am not afraid of them. I’m just concerned that with this used deck I could encourage more ghosts or negative spirits. This deck came with a tarot book. Should I discard the book?
Woow it was very comforting……ur words really gave a positive view towards tarot cant wait to b friends with tarot cards……..i had started reading tarot but 3yrs ago when my dad passed away i stopped reading ……now after 3 yrs cant find my old deck have ordered new one …..hoping to have a grt friendship with the new bunch..thnx for this article
Hi, guys. In my last comment about meeting the tarot on the inside of me when I went in. The Tarot stopped me in my tracks and said to me Slow down. There is another side of me you are aware of that will move you along with Understanding and this will keep you grounded. I can hear the decks approach to me about friendship and understanding and the deeper level of wisdom it carries and how to use the guidance of it’s approach for moving to the New World that is approaching us now. And I was told to stick with one tarot reader Utubes, Daily Tarot Girl. Peace.
My deck is my psychiatrist. I’ll ask it about that night dream, or say I’ve got to decide between two jobs. Then I’ll turn over a card and, with a little imagination, let it ask me questions, just like a headshrinker would. Every appointment has been a success, and free of charge. Movies often use tarot and Ouija to scare people, although my favorite tarot moment in film was a gag. James Bond went to an occult shop and bought 78 decks in “Live and Let Die” to ensure his love interest, a sexy reader named Solitaire, would draw the Lovers.
Wow, I have not watched one of your articles for a few years now; your growth and maturity is really interesting to see. BTW, as the moon becomes full it is like a cosmic relief valve opening up to drain off confused, useless or negative energy. So the window things is not as goofy as it sounds: Sun>Earth>Moon. Eventually the Moon consumes almost everything/everyone from this Planet.
I’ve been following you Kate for a few months now and just watched this article on Tarot safety. I never thought of my cards as anything but my friend. However if I am asked to do a reading and I’m not particularly grounded or feeling balanced on that day, I decline until I feel ready to receive the messages of the cards. I have had someone that I’ve known for 4 years in another capacity reject our relationship when I stepped over the threshold and began to promote myself thru Reiki and Readings. That was my first experience with someone seeing my work as potentially harmful. I keep studying. I learn by writing out my card meanings. And I continue to move forward. I do believe that if my intention is for my or my clients greater good then that is what the desired result will be. TY
Do tarot decks that have been changed like guardian angel tarot deck by Doreen virtue work the same as the original rider Waite ?? I tried the rider Waite once and felt really really scared for no apparent reason !! As if something came near me so I asked someone and she told me to throw it in the sea… But I was so drawn to tarot, I fell in love with it so I bought the decks with angelic themes and pretty images.. I feel they work nicely but would love to hear your opinion about this ..
It’s really nice how you explained that. I asked my Medium last time about that, and she told me the same. Tarot cards or using a Pendulum is personal thing and is not drawing in any negative energies. However she mentioned that using Playing Cards instead of Tarot can hold some danger. She said, those cards are more “open” and reachable for many people and entities alike. She told me to stay away from those.
Thank you for sharing this article, i have for a while thought of beginning to learn my tarot cards, from scratch. When i was a teenager i went to a kind of highscool were you live for a year, there i choose to attend a philosophy class, honestly because i was a lazy angry teenager who thought it could be nice to sit on a couch, and just talk instead of mathemathics, i soon found out i liked the class because of the teacher, he was a big friendly fellow, Soren was his name, he had great beard, kindda like the character hagrid from harry potter, then one day my teacher brougt a set of tarot card to class, to do a reading on a fellow student, i asked what it was about and if i could watch the reading, i could not he said, that was a personal matter for the other student, but i could get one myself the next time after class, i agreed, so the next time i went to philosophy class, i had a tarot reading on the lawn outside the classroom after class, Soren pulled op the cards, i remember it clearly, they were swept in a scarf, i was nervous while they were shuffled, he explained, like you did, that it was safe, and they were like a mirror into the soul of oneself. I left that day in awe, those cards had moved something in me, something i could not describe at that time, it was like i had an internal dialog with myself, my real self, not my persona, while he explained the cards,i could see things i have chosen, were the right choices even thoug they were hard, it made me come to contacts with my subcounsiess.
I’ve been wanting to get cards like 3-5 yrs ago and since I was raised up as Roman Catholic. I always thought predicting the future or foretelling is against God will based on the bible. Anyway, thank you so much for clarifying so many things in away that helps me alleviate my fear and skeptical/negative views of the tarot card. Keep it up mesdame.
Really enjoy your tutorials. You have a very nurturing voice. I finally got my first deck. Most of my tarot readings have been through Orisha/Santeria. It always seemed odd to me how some priests or priestesses would choose to read thru cowries or coconut shells and every so often someone would break out a tarot deck. So now I’m venturing into this new realm of insight thru this Orisha deck while trying to learn the Do’s and Don’ts. I love the point you made about not taking a tarot reading overly serious as if to say they’re word is Final (paraphrasing). I already feel like if I turn a death card some disaster is imminent.
I really appreciate this. I especially identify with the advice about treating your deck like a friend. I think it brings it closer to you, and makes it more personable and identifiable, rather than some esoteric or unknown quantity. Also, like you said, it probably just makes it more fun, too. Thank you.
Really good article! Subcribed to you❤️ i am in the same boat. I never approached tarot as a bad thing. I love it. And my question was if other people experienced negative reading when you are in a bad mood. I try not to do readings when i am in a really really bad mood😂 love to watch more articles of you!!
