Are Spells Considered Permanent After Death?

Psychic scream is an instantaneous spell that only lasts the stunning effect of the spell. Permanency is a universal spell that makes the effects of specific other spells permanent. To achieve this, the caster must cast the chosen spell and then cast the permanency spell.

Permanency spells can be made permanent by casting the desired spell and following the instructions given in the spell’s description. Spell Resistance is a spell that makes certain other spells permanent, but requires a minimum caster level and XP expendment. Prismatic Spray has a chance of turning a target into stone, which lasts until it is removed through appropriate spells.

Spells that require concentration end when the caster dies, but spells made permanent with permanency do not. Caster death does not affect spells with permanent duration, as they only end when the duration expires or when the spell is cast again. If the spell expired when the caster fell unconscious, it would say so.

Permanency spells are unaffected when the character dies and is raised, but they can still be used if the target of a spell dies. The word “permanent” means permanent until its dispelled, and caster death does not affect spells with permanent duration. Some spells like Forbiddance can become permanent by following the instructions given in the spell’s description.
