Astrology Is Science For These Five Reasons?

The author, Tapan Das PhD, presents five reasons why astrology should be considered a science: 1) it is based on statistical analysis, 2) it is a social science, 3) it is linked to alternative medicine, 4) it can be explained by cosmic energy and biofields, and 5) its basis is similar to quantum mechanics.

The book provides an introduction to astrology, explaining how it can predict how stars and planets will influence a person’s life positively. It also discusses the reasons why astrology should be considered a science, including its ability to help people understand their personalities, behaviors, and life patterns, which promotes self-awareness.

However, astrology has been rejected by the scientific community as having no explanatory power for describing the universe. Scientific testing has found no evidence to support this claim. Three hypotheses are tested in the book: 1) some Europeans lack the necessary scientific literacy to distinguish science from pseudoscience; 2) the enduring belief in astrology, despite skepticism, can be attributed to its subjective and interpretative nature; and 3) the non-existence of these reasons.

In conclusion, the author’s book provides a concise overview of astrology, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses, as well as its potential applications in various fields. By addressing these reasons, astrology can be considered a valuable tool for scientists and astrologers alike, fostering a deeper understanding of the universe and its impact on individuals.

  • Forget the regular folks, it has always puzzled me why some otherwise perfectly intelligent people can believe in something so illogical as religion and myths from the bronze age in the complete absence of evidence. Its the most redundant set of ideas, completely unnecessary to live a good, fulfilling and a purposeful life in the 21st century and yet it is foisted upon so many kids all over the world.

  • Anthropologists dig in the earth and discover an odd shaped piece of flint, the first thing they determine it must have been designed or crafted by someone of more or less intelligence. As a child living in Thonotosassa, Florida, I often came upon arrowheads and cherished every find, placing them in a special box I had. i wondered what kind of people they were, who was the hunter. They were called the Thonotosassa Indians that had once lived in that area, maybe one of my forefathers. Yet, evolutionists abandon that same logic when it comes to living things. Why is a designer not considered when they discover say, the simplest of a single-cell organism… Richard Lewontin said, that organisms “appear to have been carefully and artfully designed.” He views them as “the chief evidence of a Supreme Designer.” This Professor Richard Lewontin, a geneticist (and self-proclaimed Marxist), is certainly one of the world’s leaders in evolutionary biology. He wrote this very revealing comment (the italics were in the original). It illustrates the implicit philosophical bias against Genesis creation—regardless of whether or not the facts support it. ‘Our willingness to accept scientific claims that are against common sense is the key to an understanding of the real struggle between science and the supernatural. We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism.

  • So I’ve got a thought, Isn’t the water bear an interesting organism? It’s fight for survival is similar to that of other organisms, I sometimes compare them to us for one reason: what if we aren’t the largest organisms out their? How do we know that our planet isn’t just a single cell contributing to a system of cells that make up a giant celestial being? I had this thought while perusal Horton hears a who, ironically I look to the sky and try to see beyond the stars and the black voids of space just trying to see something… bigger. How do we know that we aren’t being observed through a microscope similar to the water bear? How do we know that this is as big as it gets?

  • I sought God with all my heart in 2018 and made it my mission that if He was there than I would know Him. Through the reading of the Holy Bible and prayer and believing Him to move in my life and HE DID, HE SHOWED UP IN SIGNS AND WONDERS AND POWER. He revealed Himself to me and radically changed me through faith in Jesus Christ. He is so GOOD and loves you. You can believe this YouTube article or you can believe the infallible Truth of the most sold book on the entire earth. He loves you and desires relationship with you. I had nothing to lose when seeking Him and He lifted me out of all darkness and He will do it for you!

  • Richard, there was a group of atheist scientists and got in touch with GOD, and said to him” GOD we have found a way to create life,” and GOD said to them ” Ok, show me,” And they said to him,” give us a bit of time to collect all the things we need from the ground ” And GOD said ” Hey hang on, get your own dirt” .

  • Only when the lamp of search, of earnest striving, of longing desire, of passionate devotion, of fervid love, of rapture, and ecstasy, is kindled within the seeker’s heart, and the breeze of His loving-kindness is wafted upon his soul, will the darkness of error be dispelled, the mists of doubts and misgivings be dissipated, and the lights of knowledge and certitude envelop his being. Baha’u’llah

  • What I love doing is point out to believers that Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in Yahweh. Hindus believe in Brahma. Ask one which is the “better” god! Talk about tongue-tied! Yahweh and Brahma exist TODAY in the modern-day not in 10th century Norway, like Odin and Thor did (unless you’re a Marvel fan..lol). Have a Hindu and Christian (or believer and non-believer) fight it out over who is “the better god” and just sit back and watch them argue over what mystical, magical, non-sensical being is “better” than the other one! It’s hysterical!

  • 2 Timothy 4:1-5 Preach the Word I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

  • I think what makes most atheist arguments unconvincing is the fact that they lump all gods together and pretend that disproving one god disproves them all. In Dawkins’ case he even lumps them in with fairies. It’s also why you hear Dawkins use silly arguments like “you’re an atheist too, you just believe in one more God then I do.” That argument only makes sense if you believe all gods, ideas of god and all religions based on a god are created equal which anyone with half a brain can tell you they’re not

  • I’m an atheist (not by choice, I am that way), but I seriously doubt the idea that the absence of proof is proof of absence. Of course, we cannot say that God or gods exists (we have no proof that he does). However, saying that because we have no proof, we can say he or they doesn’t exist seems like a fallacy. Back during the medieval times, we didn’t have proof for the existence of atoms, micro-organism and lot of things, even if we had some theories from ancient Greec about those things (but no proof). Yet, regardless of the absence of proof and of the absence of belief in those entities, they still existed regardless of our beliefs. Also, I don’t think that Dawkins is honest about Darwin here : Darwin was never an atheist and never considered the theory of evolution as a proof of the non-existence of God or gods. Having read the Origin of the Species, I can clearly say that Dawkins is giving unwanted opinions and ideas to Darwin. Also, I hardly see how intelligent design and natural selection exclude one another. After all, human do artificial selection with their lifestock, and it is a simplified and crude way to recreate the process of natural selection. If humans can do an artificial selection, why would a God or gods be unable to design natural selection ? Of course, I am not saying that there is a God or anything like that, simply that Dawkins doesn’t really seem to reflect on the question in all its complexity. He seems to be driven by his own personal belief, which isn’t really different from the case of the religious zealots he often clash with.

  • Evidence comes in different forms. Imagine you returned home from a night out to find the kitchen garbage turned over, trash thrown about, and your shoes chewed up. Meanwhile, your dog is sleeping quietly in the other room. There are some things you know and some things you don’t know. Unfortunately, you never set up your surveillance cameras. So you don’t have any direct evidence. But everything you see “suggests” that your dog misbehaved before falling asleep. Is it possible that your neighbor came over and messed up your house? Yes. But unless you have an unusual neighbor it’s not going to be the best explanation. Now if we look for the best explanation for the world we live in, here’s what we find… First, God is the best explanation for the origin of the universe. In the past it was believed that the universe was eternal. But today, theists and atheists alike agree that there was a beginning when matter, energy, space and time came into being. Denying a creator, atheists are required to believe that everything we see came out of nothing. Experience and science tell us that something can’t come from nothing. We have never seen it happen. But here we are. What’s the best explanation? That something came from nothing? Or that something outside our universe caused the universe to exist. In any other context, we recognize that something can’t come from nothing. We should in this context as well. A creator is the best explanation for the fact that the universe exists at all. Second, God is the best explanation for the fine-tuned universe.

  • If there is a perfect god, how come humans are capable of imagining more beautiful and magical worlds than him through art? Meaning that if they had the status of god from the beginning, they would have created a better world than him. If god existed, he would be less creative than us and thus, inferior.

  • The fact that everything seems so beautifully designed is 100% an opinion (one shared by pretty much everyone). This general opinion is had by humans only because we evolved over billions of years to more and more be able to appreciate the world surrounding us. Certain ancestors of ours couldnt appreciate things the way we do now & therefore had less reason to try to live long healthy lives full of procreating. Also, as for how time could have existed forever and not had something create the universe at a certain point, our brains only ever had a reason to evolve far enough to be able to comprehend what was around us. Everything human beings experience in life has an end or an edge to it. Give it another 100 million years and infinity might genuinely make sense to us.

  • “In our society, those who have the best knowledge of what is happening are also those who are furthest from seeing the world as it is. In general, the greater the understanding, the greater the delusion; the more intelligent, the less sane.” ― George Orwell, 1984 No, I’m not religious. No, I am not an atheist.

  • I had to go to other city. I missed the train. The next train had to come next morning. I was in hurry. Suddenly the ground exoloded and iron came out alongwith other minerals. First the rail tracks were established. The the iron turned into train by itself. Then suddenly, out of nowhere came the fuel and filled the tank. The suddenly train started and came to me. I got on board and it started by itself. I reached other city before time. What a journey it was. If you believe my story then you can believe there is no God.

  • Goodness… allow me to just humbly remark, that the title suggests Dawkins is about to give 5 reasons why there “is no” god. But all he did was give suggestions why not to “believe” in a god. And to that… he is right. Belief is cheap. It’s cheap because it can change. If anyone is arguing about this, then it is their egos. The Truth is, no one actually “Knows.” People are just too arrogant to say they don’t know. Dawkins doesn’t know, no one knows. Proof is not necessary for belief, and hence the problem we find ourselves in today. People can believe anything they want, and if they choose to believe something, then G-d forbid (lol) that their belief should be so fragile as to be shaken by another person’s “belief” being confused as knowledge. To Know something, is to become that. To believe in something, is to choose that. Faith is the proof of something chosen. To know something you believe, requires faith. Without faith, who cares? In anycase, to have proof, and then believe is not a choice. To know something because it is self-evident, is by default and not a choice. There is no proof of G-d. Nor should there be, otherwise there’s no choice. A wise person seeks to Know the truth, to become it, one with it. Healthy skepticism is necessary. Most people believe in fairy-tails because they are practicing escapism. To escape reality is to avoid the truth. Which means they can only ever just believe. Better to know nothing than to believe in nothing. To seek the truth requires a belief in something.

  • ( To Scientists, atheists, and those who are looking for God please read) In the beginning John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word/Logos, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Things were spoken into existence by a thinking mind with a heart. The logos or word was divine thought in Greek philosophy. Proverbs 8:22 “I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work, long before he made anything else. 23 I was created in the very beginning,
even before the world began. 24 I was born before there were oceans, or springs overflowing with water, 25 before the hills were there, before the mountains were put in place. 26 God had not made the earth or fields,
not even the first dust of the earth. 27 I was there when God put the skies in place, when he stretched the horizon over the oceans,28 when he made the clouds above and put the deep underground springs in place. 29 I was there when he ordered the sea not to go beyond the borders he had set. I was there when he laid the earth’s foundation. 30 I was like a child by his side. I was delighted every day, enjoying his presence all the time,31 enjoying the whole world, and delighted with all its people. Proof is guided by signs and faith. We can’t be everywhere at once And know everything yet things can be known. Truth and love have a transcendent element. It’s like having a wife you can’t see all of her but you know her by her actions and heart. How can one test love even a polygraph test can lie. Love is about trust and faith.

  • maybe it’s just the same story told in a different way over and over again in order to reach a different group of people in a different way over different periods of time. Like Star Wars or Harry Potter, same story, different characters. Just explaining the basic scientific principles of our universe essentially. Light/dark… good/evil… positivity/negativity… so on and so forth.
