Can Ornn Cause Magical Damage?

Ornn’s and his allies’ immobilizing effects against Brittle enemies consume the debuff to deal bonus magic damage equal to 10-18 (based on Ornn’s level) of the target’s maximum health, capped at 250 against monsters. This magic damage is not directly increased by items, but magic pen would increase it because it lowers the enemy defense. With optimal usage, Maw is 2.5 better against Magic damage but 23.2 less effective against Physical damage.

Ornn increases bonus armor, bonus magic resistance, and bonus health by 10 from all sources, further increased by 4 each time he upgrades a Mythic item into a Masterwork item. He can spend gold to forge non-consumable items anywhere on the field. Enemies made Brittle by Ornn take 10-18 target’s maximum health as bonus magic damage per stack of Brittle the next time they are immobilized by Ornn or his allies. Ornn’s ability to dish out damage according to enemy current health and max health makes him effective against tanks.

Ornn can purchase non-consumable items from anywhere on the field by using the Top Lane starting items. The Forgefire Cape is an upgraded form of Sunfire Cape that adds tankiness in the form of bonus health and armor. Ornn summons a massive lava elemental, which stampedes towards him, causing enemies to take 125/175/225 (+20 bonus Ability Power) magic damage.

Ornn’s Stun icon immobilizing effects against Brittle enemies consume the debuff to deal bonus magic damage equal to 10-18. He gains additional bonus armor and Magic Resist from all sources and can spend gold to forge non-consumable items anywhere. His Attacks against Brittle targets Knock them Back, dealing additional damage.

The elemental inflicts damage upon adversaries, impedes their progress, and renders them susceptible to further harm. Ornn has the capacity to redirect the elemental, which will then proceed to knock up enemies, inflict the same degree of damage, and reapply the Brittle effect.

Does AP mean magic damage?

In each game, there is a combination of two distinct categories: AP (attack speed) and AD (attack damage). AP is associated with magic damage, while AD is linked to physical damage. For those seeking a relatively straightforward introduction to the AD category, Wukong, Tristana, and Caitlyn are all viable options.

Similarly, AP champions such as Annie, Lux, and Malzahar are recommended for those looking to gain a foothold in the AP category. For those new to the game, we recommend consulting the list of the best LoL characters for beginners.

What counts as magic damage?

In the context of League of Legends, magic damage represents a specific type of damage inflicted by a subset of damaging spells. These spells can be cast by champions, items, runes, and buffs. The statistical factors that influence the damage caused by magical attacks include the health of the target, the offensive capabilities of the attacker, the damage inflicted by the attack itself, and the ability of the attacker to inflict damage. The effect of magic resistance is to mitigate the damage caused by magic, but this is subject to reduction by the factor of magic penetration.

  • Hope you like this mini-guide, I tried to answer a lot of potential questions, if you have some more, feel free to ask! BLACK CLEAVER ACTUALLY GIVES +150HP, my bad (the gold efficiency is calculated properly though) Plenty of interactions so sorry for going almost to 5 minutes (hoped it would be ~3 minutes). Have a good day! 🙂

  • Vandiril- I just wanted to say that I’ve been following your website for a while now, and I think its really cool to see what the website has become and what you do. Your articles are very informative and helpful, they are clean, do exactly what you say they will, and are enjoyable to watch. My friend group and I watch your articles at every new patch and PBE update now to get better understanding of mechanics and new, important changes quickly and efficiently. Keep doing what you’re doing, cant wait for more informative content!

  • so while testing out the upgraded items i found that building black cleaver and its upgrade as two items will let you stack the passive twice as fast, i knew this might be the case with how unique passives work in this game but i could not tell of the others without named passives stacked like IE as its tough to tell, would you be able to test this?

  • Upgraded Locket of the Iron Solari + Gargoyle Stoneplate is the tankiest possible combination of items for 5200 gold. For those few seconds where you have both the Solari shield and the Stoneplate active, you can have 236% of your HP plus an extra 434 HP, with 130 extra armor and 155 extra magic resist.

  • I wish the upgrades changed the passive in your items. For example: Rabbadons ->It now gives you 40% more AP and all of your spells AP scaling is now 5% bigger. (ex: lux E has now a 0.63 AP scaling instead of 0.6 ap scaling) Sunfire cape -> It now burns enemies by an additional 2% of your current HP each second. Abyssal -> You are healed by 5% of the bonus magic damage you induce into enemy champions. Trinity -> After casting a spell your next attack deals 250% of your base damage and procs phage’s bonus speed buff. Salvation -> The active will not only heal allies but it will also create a zone that will heal allies by 2% of their missing health each second for 3 seconds. Infinity -> On-hit damage can also crit. Cleaver -> Passive stacks up to 8 times now.

  • Something important with his passive, is that when you buy ruby crystal or the mana one, you receive those stats immedietly instead of needing to regen those stats, while this might seem a no brainer, it means that when you buy a ruby crystal you get healed for 150 hp, and giving the fact that he can’t buy potions, this actually gives him a form of healing (and mana restore)! So if you want to be really efficient, you should buy your armor, mr, AD etc 1st, and buy the mana and hp in lane using your passive.

  • Today I was perusal my little brother play a match, and he had the herald in his inventory. He was between the inhibitor and the nexus turret, the inhibitor was below half health. He used the herald, and while it was about to charge at the inhibitor, the inhibitor died, and the herald immediately changed direction towards the nexus turret and did no damage. Is it possible that this is a bug? Is it possible to cc the herald in the middle of him charging? Thanks if you read this, I got homework for you. 😡

  • I wonder how they want to balance him properly… I mean in the low elo he’ll probably be powerful because of the item upgrades and in higher elos his item upgrades will never be used in most games due to the short game length. Unless they actually are able to balance him we’ll probably just see him either as low elo mustban or as low elo balanced and high elo useless.

  • Except for Deathcrown, all these upgrades are not worth 1k gold and should not be bought before maxing out all item slots. And, unless you are after AP only, Deathcrown shouldn’t be bought early on either. Most if not all items are bought for their specific passives/actives, and masterwork upgrades do not change passives/actives at all. I do have to say though, that all 8 upgrades are balanced and that is something I really like. I however wished they made a 9th masterwork upgrade, for Ghostblade or something. At least 1 out of the 8 masterwork upgrades are practically always bought by any champion, except for assassins. They kinda don’t really have a good item to buy here (both Black Cleaver and Trinity Force are not common items on assassins).

  • Wow, those upgrades are boring as hell, i was expecting something exciting and interesting, but instead we get passive stat increases. It would have been so easy to make something more interesting: Black Cleaver –> 10% armor shred per stack Infinity Edge –> Critical hits deal 40% bonus damage Trinity Force –> Spellblade deals 300% base AD Sunfire Cape –> Deals double damage to champion and ignites them, causing them to take damage for 3 seconds after leaving it’s range Rabadon –> Gives 50% bonus AP Abyssal –> Every enemy on the map takes 10% bonus magic damage, and those close take 20% bonus damage Locket –> Shielded allies also gain 50% damage reduction and 50% tenacity while the shield holds Redemption –> Fire instantly has it’s effect increased by 50% Do i get hired at Riot yet?

  • Is ornn meant to be a support or a top laner? his passive seems op top cause you can stay in lane and just gradually win with and extra longsword until they back and you dont and so you gain an advantage with the wave or they die to all the extra items you have other than that so he seems like his kit is meant for a support
