Can Pathfinder Druids Cast Spells In A Wild Shape?

Wild Shape is a feature in Druid level 6th that allows the user to take a form in which they cannot speak, such as an animal. This allows them to speak normally in any language they know, cast spells with verbal components, speak command words, and activate spell completion and spell trigger items. When wildshape is obtained, the user gains pest form and can later use feats to get animal form. Wild points from wildshape are used to cast these spells.

A spell cast this way is situational but worth a scroll or two if they suddenly find their party. With D and D 5E, it is stated that Druids cannot cast spells in Wildshape, but P2E does not say that. However, it does mention that “battle form” spells can be cast using Wild Shape.

Beginning at 18th level, Druids can cast many of their spells in any shape they assume using Wild Shape. They can perform somatic and verbal spells, focus on utility for out-of-combat, or sustain a spell while in Wild Shape. If a sustained spell like summoning the first turn and using a Focus Spell is used, Wild Shape is more effective.

Wis 13, a wild shape class feature, allows the user to complete the verbal and somatic components of spells while using Wild Shape. They can substitute various noises and gestures for the normal verbal and somatic components of a spell. While they cannot cast, they can sustain spells in a battle form, which can be fun to set up before transforming.

In the battle form, Druids cannot cast spells, speaking, or using manipulate actions that require hands. However, multi-class characters with Wildshape ability can take the Natural Spell feat to cast all spells while shape changed. Druids can cast spells even while wild shaped if they took the Natural Spell feat, making them unique as shapeshifting classes.

However, it does not grant the ability to cast spells requiring somatic components unless they have the Natural Spell feat or cast spells with material components merged into their form.

When using wild shape to take the form of an animal, users can use the spell-like ability “speak with animals” to communicate with animals of their assumed form. This ability has a caster level equal to the druid level and can be used for a number of minutes per day, not necessarily consecutive but in one-minute increments.
