Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is a popular series that has been a favorite among younger readers. The series, which premiered on Starz in May, is better-suited for younger audiences and is more withholding lore and rules than Good Omens. The second season of American Gods ends on a cliffhanger that goes beyond Gaiman’s original source material. Amazon Prime Video renewed the show for a third season, confirming that season 3 would be the last. Gaiman was working on a full-fledged sequel to the novel American Gods, but no sequel novel has been published by Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett. Despite discussions about a sequel novel, Gaiman managed to smuggle American Gods into Good Omens in a sneaky way, leading to Amazon’s Good Omens succeeding while Starz’s American Gods faltered.
In May 2017, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on March 10, 2019. The following week, Starz renewed American Gods for the third season. Good Omens on Prime Video has an Easter egg for American Gods, with performances from Ian McShane and Orlando Jones as spider-god Anansi. Gaiman is currently working on two high-profile adaptations of his work, American Gods for Starz and a version of Good Omens, which he decided to adapt after receiving a positive response from fans.
