Do Decks Need To Include Elvish Mystic And Lannowar?

Elvish Mystic is considered better in Pioneer due to its lack of vulnerability to effects like Legion’s End and Llanowar Mentor tokens. To include 1-mana elves that tap for G, they must be Llanowar Elves. If you are passionate about foil Elvish Mystics, you can bring them and trigger Tyvar’s emblem, causing the Elvish Mystic spell to gain haste and drawing two cards. Elvish Mystic enters the battlefield, triggering Cloudstone Curio and returning.

However, they are technically different cards, allowing for more consistency in running them in a deck or 2x in Brawl. The current Pioneer format is fun and suitable for anyone who loves a good Llanowar Elves deck. The deck features classic elf flavor with dorks like Fyndhorn Elves, Llanowar Elves, and Elvish Mystic. However, there is some fun spice from using Fyndhorn Elves, Llanowar Elves, and Elvish Mystic on turn 1, Incubation Druid, Priest of Titania on turn 2, and Elvish Archdruid e Marwyn.

Llanowar Elves are a classic Magic card that remains relevant in Pioneer. They can tap for one G mana regardless of having a llanowar or fyndhorn. The three Llanowar elves are good for getting a T2 Edric and attacking opponents open. Elvish Mystic was designed as a replacement for Llanowar Elves, and now you can put one of each in your Commander deck or Cube.

In conclusion, Llanowar Elves is a useful card found in nearly every deck using green color and requiring a lot of mana.

  • Joraga Warcaller is a great card to add in a deck like this. It’s {G} for a 1/1 that gives each other Elf +1/+1 for each +1/+1 counter on it, then it has multikicker {1}{G} for a +1/+1 counter. It’s really synergistic with things like Immaculate Magistrate. Even just dumping a ton of mana into it will make everything else huge. Wirewood Symbiote is another great idea: Return an elf to your hand to untap target elf once per turn. Can be used to gain more mana (that you can then use to play the elf you returned) and it can save your Commander.

  • There’s quite some removal which fits better as it boosts Abomination of Llanowar. Eyelights Ending can replace Putrefy. Masked Vandal is a strong creature-based enchantment/artifact removal. Ochran Assasin and Thornweald Archer can be strong threats against fliers or beat sticks in general. Oakhame Adversary is a fun way of creating some card draw.

  • Best whisperer is really good, but only one copy of that effect seems like a bad idea. Do yourself a favor and add “soul of the harvest” and “primordial sage” even if they are not elves. as I always say in Commander redundancy is key! Also “grave sifter” would be really useful recursion in this deck…
