Do Readers Share Any Traditions That Are Non-Negotiable?

In a recent article, The New York Times asked readers to share their wellness “non-negotiables”, which are practices that anchor and animate their lives. Nearly 2,000 people shared their practices that anchor and animate their lives, including making small changes to their diet, such as swapping one daily serving of red meat for plant-based protein, or setting fewer goals.

The article explores the significance of non-negotiables in life, focusing on the importance of self-care rituals and setting fewer goals. By identifying core values and principles and establishing positive impact habits that live up to these values, readers can build their non-negotiables and ensure that what is important to them keeps its space.

One of the most common non-negotiables is food prep, as it allows readers to be intentional about what they put in their bodies and the rest of the time. By focusing on these routines and habits, readers can stay grounded, happy, and healthy.

Non-negotiables are self-care rituals that readers are non-negotiable about daily, meaning that nothing gets in the way of making time for these rituals. The three categories of non-negotiables include Give, Move, and Learn. By focusing on these practices, readers can create a more balanced and fulfilling life, fostering a sense of purpose and happiness.

  • I’ve been teaching online the last 4 years. This is my first year in the classroom as the regular teacher of record. Aside from this I’ve spent small segments of time as an ESL teacher in summer programs and a few years as a preschool teacher. My kids are my non-negotiable and I’m failing as mom right now. I have not figured out how to prioritize them over work and still meet all the expectations coming at me from administration between the 5 committees I was voluntold to be a part of, the clubs I have to oversee, the fights that break out in the classroom, the hallways (inner-city school), teaching, and grading, and lesson planning…I’m barely keeping my head above water and my kids are suffering. As it stands I don’t see me doing this again next year if things don’t get better and right now I don’t know how to fix any of this.
