Caladbolg is a sword found in Smugglers Pass behind a locked door with two chests. It is a close-ranged weapon commonly used by Fighters, Mystic Knights, and Assassins. It offers a decent amount of range and power and is often wielded in hard mode. The Mystic Knight’s strength is more important than equal Magick and Strength, as it can be split damage Vocation.
The Caladbolg is a unique skill for Mystic Knights, but it takes setup to use. It is weak to thunder and dark, so using abyssal anguish is recommended. To switch elements, carry three swords of each element (almace, caladbolg, eden’s warden) and swap them when needed.
In Dragon’s Dogma, the Mystic Knight has Fighter’s Strength, but it is not as good as it could be due to enemy mitigation. Physical damage is taken into account, and if it’s a magic weapon like Caladbolg with Perma Thunder Enchant (or was it ice), the focus will be on the magick.
In hard mode, players can use the Caladbolg sword with a Knight’s Honor shield and a sorcerer pawn. While Caladbolg is not a bad weapon stat-wise, it is not as good as it could be due to enemy mitigation.

For newer players who aren’t overflowing with Ascended crafting materials (like me), it may not be easy to get a Vision Crystal required for this. Easiest way is to get the 28 day reward and get the “Chest of Ascended Crafting Materials” which has it as a guaranteed drop. Unfortunately for me, I completed HoT the day after I got a 28 day reward. Now I’ll be farming Dragonite Ore, Bloodstone Dust, and Empyreal Fragments to get this (and other Ascended gear of course). Point is, it’s not always as simple as the title “Easy Ascended Weapon in 1 hour” leads you to believe. Even just gathering the motes took longer than that unless you have a flying mount and memorized all the locations in the game!

Thanks for all your articles. My wife and I completed this one yesterday. It took longer than an hour but we were in the low 100’s for crafting, had to craft the Vision crystal, had to spend and 1 or 2 hours farming Dragonite to make it. And we had a slight mix up when selecting the weapon so we were very happy with the end of the article to learn how to trade out the weapon. We had to buy some Black Lion Chest keys to get the Untamed Magic for the trade-in as well. The article was excellent. Thanks!
got this a while ago, a certain sense of completion comes with it. it’s one of the few things in the entire game -barring leggies – where you can rather cheaply transmute and stat swap to another attribute set. sure it 1K worth of unbound magic per swap. but you can get that casually pretty easily, doing the “fire and forget” method: go to a HoT / LWS3 map, and do stuff there.

For anyone who may be newer to the game, and hasn’t gotten their crafting up high enough to make the needed Vision Crystal. Another source is from the Chest of Ascended Crafting Materials which is one of the options from the Chest of Loyalty from the daily log in rewards. You just gotta plan ahead if you’re gonna use that option though. Since the Chest of Loyalty is the last daily log in reward, before the cycle resets.
Thank you soo much for this guide. I followed it closely. Waaay more than an hour. The last fight … took longer than an hour … does that mean I am good? you are a master of explaining with minimal words. There was a lot to do and you covered the essentials in a short time. Sadly i choose the greatsword, thinking that Caladbolg was somehow special in that all classes could wield it in any of it’s forms. Nvm, I plan to change it’s form anyway, for the achievement. I noticed that it was account bound and not soul bound … does this mean I can give to another of my chars?
If you are going to make guides and “show people” where things are it would be a lot more helpful to SHOW WHERE you started these things. blossoming mote, ” just go through the pipe” then proceeds to skip the location of said pipe and restart article when you are already inside it with NO CLUE how you got there as the pipe is hidden AF. you should stop trying to cut articles short when you keep cutting out some of the most IMPORTANT SHIT!
Everyone screaming ty clearly never did it or try it before they comment it takes way longer then a hour I would like the article if u wouldn’t just cap about the time it takes like say it will take u a hour if u have everything completely unlocked and everything in that case who really needs a ascended weapon when they prob already stacked with armour and weapons and again then I still don’t believe it took u a “55” mins I can bet my whole bank account there will be little no one who can complete this in a hour especially the fact u need daily resets titles like this is what makes me completely ignore your future content but I guess good luck.
I have put this aside for years as I came t a problem with it. I would really like to finish it . Previously, I have completed ALL the side parts and I am stuck on Sword Taxonomy, I have Caladbog Rosa finished but not the others. I do not have any Caladbog to continue, so I would appreciate help from anyone what I do next. I do NOT have the option to talk to Miyani, Miyani I need a favor, so i dont know where to go next. This guide isn’t that helpful. You sped through all of the motes for example. There are written guides that tell me where they are, I wanted a article guide to SHOW me how to get them. That portion of this guide went to fast. For example the brilliant mote, you tell me to go through a pipe. What pipe? Where? How do I access it? If I have to use other guides to make your guide make sense, then there is an issue.
