Does Eckhart Toller Accept Astrology As True?

Eckhart Tolle, a German-born spiritual teacher and self-help author, was born in Germany in 1948. He experienced a profound spiritual awakening at the age of 29, falling under the Sun sign of Aquarius with Gemini as his Ascendant and Taurus as his Moon. Tolle’s teachings encompass spiritual healing, mindful awareness, and deep self-reflection. His thinking is marked by a longing for simplicity and his focus on the pain body and the shadow.

Tolle’s astrological chart is chaotic, but he does not identify with any specific religion but has been influenced by a wide range of spiritual works. He was depressed for much of his life, which is similar to what can happen during the dark night of the soul. Tolle’s perspective on twin flame connections, uncovering the essence of presence, surrender, and spiritual growth, is also discussed.

In astrology, tarot, mediumship, energy healing, Eckhart Tolle, Oprah, and his own ability to “remote view” are discussed. It is interesting to note that the late 20’s is when most experience a “Saturn return” in astrology. Tolle’s teachings encompass spiritual healing, mindful awareness, and deep self-reflection, with much of his thinking marked by a longing for simplicity.

What religion believes in astrology?

Astrology and divination are integral to various cultures and traditions, including Hinduism, Chinese culture, Christianity, and Islam. These practices help people make big decisions and predict the future, reflecting their beliefs and values. Despite variations in methods, the idea of seeking guidance about the future remains consistent. Understanding these practices offers insight into diverse worldviews and their place in the world. The Bhagavad Gita’s wisdom, particularly from Shloka 41 of Chapter 2, is considered the key to liberation.

Is there any truth behind astrology?

Astrology is a belief system that suggests a connection between astronomical phenomena and human events or personality descriptions. However, it has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power and lack of scientific validity. Scientific testing has found no evidence to support the premises or effects outlined in astrological traditions. The most famous test, led by Shawn Carlson, concluded that natal astrology performed no better than chance.

Astrology has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity, making it regarded as pseudoscience. There is no proposed mechanism by which stars and planets affect people and events on Earth in the way astrologers claim, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics.

Who created astrology?

Astrology, a branch of divination, originated in Mesopotamia around the 3rd millennium BC and spread to India. It developed its Western form in Greek civilization during the Hellenistic period. Astrology entered Islamic culture as part of the Greek tradition and was returned to European culture through Arabic learning during the Middle Ages. According to the Greek tradition, the heavens are divided according to the 12 constellations of the zodiac, with bright stars casting spiritual influences on human affairs.

Astrology was also important in ancient China, with horoscopes being cast for newborns and life-changing events. Despite the Copernican system eradicating the geocentric worldview required for astrology, interest in astrology has continued into modern times, with astrological signs believed to influence personality.

What do Christians think of astrology?

In Matthew 28:18, Jesus asserts that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to him. This contradicts biblical wisdom, as chasing after false gods is a sin. There is no biblical evidence that God has given authority to stars or astrologists. Pursuing predictions about our destiny or personality is biblically sinful, as it takes power from God and gives it to something other than God. A horoscope cannot change what God has already ordained before we were even created.

Is astrology related to spirituality?

The practice of astrology is not solely confined to the interpretation of horoscopes; it is also intertwined with spiritual beliefs in numerous religious traditions. Individuals utilize astrology as a means of attaining a more profound comprehension of existence and spiritual advancement. In Hinduism, astrology is utilized as a tool for self-discovery and the attainment of true happiness. This is achieved by examining one’s astrological chart, which is believed to facilitate the breaking free from the illusions of life.

What does the Bible say about astronomy?

In Psalm 8:3-4, David contemplates the greatness of God, observing the stars overhead. Psalm 19:1:1-6 celebrates the heavens’ glory, highlighting the sun’s position against the stars. Psalms 81:3 and 104:19 suggest that God created the moon to mark seasons, the Hebrew calendar’s appointed times. In Isaiah 38:1-8, God performs a miracle to prove King Hezekiah’s sickness and save the city from destruction by making the shadow on the royal sundial go backwards.

Is astrology true in Islam?

The Hadith, a collection of Islamic religious teachings, is a significant part of the Islamic faith. It outlines the instructions and practices of Muhammad, who criticized the legality and illegality of astrology. According to Abu Dawud, seeking knowledge from the stars is considered witchcraft, which is inherently forbidden in Islam. The Hadith also emphasizes that rain is a blessing bestowed only by Allah, and any belief that rain is a result of other beings is considered disbelief.

The Hadith also mentions the stars, stating that those who suggest rain originates from a star are considered disbelievers in Allah. This concept of astrology and the belief in celestial beings’ influence on anything other than what is enshrined in the Quran and Hadith constitutes shirk (blasphemy) and leads one to leave the fold of the religion.

Second-century Islamic scholar Imam Ali, the fourth caliph of Islam and cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad, views astrology as fundamentally forbidden in the Islamic religion. He warns followers not to learn the science of stars except for guidance on land or sea, as it leads to divining and an astrologer is a diviner. This aligns with the Quran, which points to stars and astrology as only a means of navigation.

However, prominent scholars like Ibn Arabi and Ikhwan argue that planets are not considered God but do suggest each prophet with a specific planet/celestial being. Prophet Idris, also known as Enoch, was gifted with great knowledge of the stars and used his gift to meditate upon God’s grandeur and teach others. He believed that the stars and moon contributed to mankind and founded the study of the stars.

Different sects of Islam offer varying perspectives on the concept of astrology.

Which religions forbid astrology?

Which religions forbid astrology?

Early Christians and early Jews were strongly opposed to astrology, with some even attributing it to demonic origin. The Church Fathers imposed strong sanctions against astrology to protect their flocks, with mathematician Aquila Ponticus excommunicated from the Church in Rome for astrological heresies in A. D. 120. St. Augustine believed that the determinism of astrology conflicted with Christian doctrines of man’s free will and responsibility, and that God was not the cause of evil. He also grounded his opposition philosophically, citing the failure of astrology to explain twins who behave differently despite being conceived at the same time.

The first astrological book published in Europe was the Liber Planetis et Mundi Climatibus, published between 1010 and 1027 AD. Ptolemy’s second century AD Tetrabiblos was translated into Latin by Plato of Tivoli in 1138. Dominican theologian Thomas Aquinas proposed that the stars ruled the imperfect’sublunary’ body while attempting to reconcile astrology with Christianity by stating that God ruled the soul.

The thirteenth century mathematician Campanus of Novara devised a system of astrological houses, while astronomer Guido Bonatti wrote the Liber Astronomicus, which King Henry VII of England owned at the end of the fifteenth century.

Is chakra related to astrology?

Astrology and our Chakras are intertwined, with the planets’ astrological power ruling our Chakras. Astrologer George Lewis, a teacher, sound healer, artist, and author, explains how this relationship ties together. He believes that every zodiac sign has a planetary ruler, and a select few have both a modern ruler and an ancient ruler. Understanding these relationships can provide insight into ourselves and offer reasons for events that have shaped our personalities and lives. His astrological practice is based on archetypal mythology and ancient techniques.

Does everyone believe in astrology?

Astrology is a popular practice among Americans, French, and Mexicans, despite its lack of accuracy. This is due to its profitability, with astrology apps earning $40 million in the US in 2019. However, astrology relies on confirmation bias and the Barnum effect, which are mental mechanisms that can influence the selection, retention, and evaluation of evidence. This bias is influenced by prior beliefs and expectations, as people tend to look for information that supports their ideas and ignore contradictory information. As a result, astrology is increasingly promoted online, attracting more people into the market.

  • I’ve always felt a strong pull towards advancing humanity’s grand pursuits, eager to harness the power of influence, unlock the secrets to lasting happiness, and safeguard our shared future. My drive isn’t rooted in selfish ambition, but rather in a sincere commitment to making a meaningful impact. I’m endlessly curious about unraveling the mysteries of human nature, chasing after wisdom that has long eluded many. My goal is to honor the aspirations of our forebears by pursuing the knowledge they yearned for us to possess.

  • Essentially, dont let anyones judgement of you limit your potential. You can do almost anything you put your heart into. Be it money or anything. Just dont make it into an inner conflict. They say time is money but time well spent is more worth than anything money can give. And as Eckhart has stated many times over: Remove the past and the future or at least pretend it doesnt exist for a moment. Thats where your life is.

  • 1:03 When you ask for something, believe that you have received it. This means feeling being connected with the essence of being. 6:27 You have to live it. Let it become part of your being. You enjoy it. 9:09 Do you enjoy what you do this moment? Does the essence come through? Beatles and Louis Armstrong. Essence comes through their songs. 🙏🏻😇🦅🐠🤩⛈💥💥😎😆🍀🐿🔥💖 15:29 Many things that your mind or others tell you are impossible are actually within the realm of possibility. Important thing is to enjoy what you do this moment. Whether you arrive in the destination is secondary because there’s deep enjoyment in the present moment. The bottom line: Enjoy your doing and being this moment. Not drift to what must happen in your destination! Thanks Eckhart. 3 May 2014. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌹🌹🌹🌹🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

  • When they said she was going crazy, she was awakening. When they said that she was isolating, she was healing. When they said she was acting funny, she was growing. When they said that she had changed, she was evolving. When they said she did not care anymore, she finally realized that her peace lives within. When they said he was becoming distant, he was learning to trust himself. When they said he was losing touch, he was finding his inner voice. When they said he was being stubborn, he was asserting his boundaries. When they said he was aloof, he was finding solitude and serenity. When they said he was being unrealistic, he was dreaming bigger. When you stop chasing the wrong things, you give the right things a chance to catch you.

  • To manifest your aim = first enjoy the process +second, spend time on preliminary steps

  • Astral realm flying 😮. I have, at different times throughout my life, had moments when I left the body and flew over the world. I can’t explain it other than it felt awesome and very real. What’s interesting is how I never talked about it with anyone and I would forget about it until it would happen again. It hasn’t happened in awhile and his mention of it here reminded me…and gave it a name. Words are only pointers, but this phrase immediately struck me as about as accurate a description as could be invoked.🙏🏼💗

  • Very true 🙏 They also said something similar to Maria Callas: “you can’t succeed 🤣 as an opera singer because your voice is “broken”. 😮😂 We all know how it went. During an audition a famous Italian director said to Brigitte Bardot: “with that face you will never be able to be an actress😂change profession!” Marilyn Monroe’s famous sentence:” Yes, many girls think of becoming actresses but I think so more strongly than them.” Certain people have like a magnet, and it is the manifestation that wants to manifest itself through them. They are people “written “like this. We are all already “written” we all have a magnet that follows us. Sometimes it is a friend, sometimes it is enemy. That’s it. Anyway all is Consciusness❤ So grateful 💓🙏✨✨✨🌺

  • Thank goodness you didn’t listen to him. I can’t imagine my life without your teachings and The Power of Now. Also, love the distinction about the flow of energy that pulsated for that book; this is where I am surrendering in my life. I no longer have interest or motivation to do anything just because I can make money doing it. As a Type A for 54 years, letting go of that past identity, especially in our “hustle culture,” has been the most challenging. Thank you for guiding me thru this transition. ❤

  • Hard disagree on the ballet dancer example. People in their 80s are competing in bodybuilding and etc. If you’ve seen it in existence, there should be no doubt at all that it can happen to you too. And if you haven’t seen it, then be the first. Other laws aside, the universe will always say yes Also, you’re 78 but look 25 years younger, you’re real proof of that. ❤

  • ❤ What I hear you saying is that faith must be based on truth. If I have a lack of faith evidenced by my lack of action in doing what must be done in order to manifest then the facts or truth is I don’t really want what I say I do and therefore will not be able to manifest that thing. If I truly believe I can do a handstand then I will be actively doing exercises that strengthen my muscles that I will need in that activity to then manifest a handstand some time in the near future. Also our manifestation must also be in alignment and harmony with the universal laws governing that activity. Would moving that mountain affect others (human, animal, or vegetation) negatively? This would be violating laws of life and freewill etc, therefore having ‘faith’ for this activity is corrupt and not supported by the Universe

  • let me break this down as I see it, logically. Quote; ” the source, consciousness:” What! a non physical consciousness is the source of your very Being. That means this teacher thinks that consciousness made your physical body and brain. Well he should know because he seems to know what people are thinking. Well Power to the teacher for Manifesting his belief that Consciousness is the Source of his Principles. Faith means a strong belief in someone or something or based on spiritual belief rather than proof. That means the teacher Consciousness Source for everything does not require to be proved if you have Faith in what you have Manifested to be your guiding Principle belief. Faith didn’t work for Jesus because he was nailed to a cross by none other than God believers. And people want to follow this teacher. Talk about the blind leading the blind. So this teacher believes in mental projection, if so, then why is he not producing a article saying nothing and we all can guess what he is saying. I mean the mind does not have an electro magnetic signal sender and we dont have an aerial sticking out of our head to pick up that signal, unless you are the Favourite Martian. But if we could send and receive, we would require power strong enough to power out those signals. So where would that Power come from, it would have to come from non other than the POWER of BELIEVING that your SOURCE in CONSCIOUNESS POWER. Talk about teachers and guru’s losing the plot especially when they get older, it just becomes all to much for them.

  • What about the rule “aim for the stars, so even if you fail, you’ll land on the moon”? So ok, I may not be the best boxer in the world, but with that mindset, I may still end up in some nice medium-tier good payin passion right. And vice versa, if you aim ‘realistically’, you may end up even lower than that!

  • I believe we are able to fly. I’m not able to do it yet.. I’m focused on other things. But I believe we can. I’ve been flying in dreams LUCIDLY since childhood.. and if not yet, it’s coming for the collective. I’ve had moments of such empowerment, such trust, I thought in those moments that I ABSOLUTELY could fly if I wanted to. However I’m not going to jump from a building

  • Hello, I am a very anxious person despite trying to practice presence, and I am terrified of manifesting the things I am afraid of… Is this possible, or can we only manifest the things that are in alignment with our true self, the source that eckhart speaks of? Sorry for my bad English I really need your advice

  • How do I get rid of my apathy so I can enjoy stuff. I cannot seem to stay doing any one thing very long because I’m so apathetic. This makes manifesting anything almost impossible because I never really want to do anything and I never actually enjoy anything. When I search for joy the best I can seem to come up with is indifference. I sometimes experience pleasure but this is not joy.

  • I usually love what Tolle says but here find him giving some contradictions. Its either true that “belief creates experience” which is the essence of what Jesus was teaching and many other masters, or its not true. Perhaps the reason one can not become a balet dancer in their 80ties is do to an old belief system. Most of us learned that it requires youth and lots of practice hours. What if we grew up in a world that did not say that? Just saying…..

  • It is not Eckhart’s vision to win the heavyweight boxing, also he is probably not the right weight. If it really was his vision though, then the odds would still be pretty small but not actually zero. Actually that is quite a good description of an infinitesimal.I’m not heading to the bookies on the curling either.

  • Isn’t it true if you are aware of the singularity in all singularities that is the totality of the essence of each Singularity is then you will realize in that Singularity that is is singing or dancing or says or whatever they are performing that you realize that that Singularity that is practicing and manifesting all that is is in you also isn’t that when you appreciate and joy whatever the other Singularity is doing you enjoy it because it is in you. Thank you thank you for pointing out our true essence

  • He says some things are possible beyond what the mind may expect through persistence of practice and faith in it being possible, then gods power can begin to pour through. This is spot on. then he says but some things aren’t possible. Such a physical flying. this is not true. it is indeed possible. but he is being general and practical here. the thing is, god is beyond general and practical. again with persistence of practice and faith, it is possible. literally anything is possible with the power of God. Mr dear tolle could become a ballet dancer, it’s never too late. it just requires the faith, belief in gods unlimited power, belief in possibility, belief in oneself, and practice and perseverance helps. god could and would begin to give the power for it to happen. it would be so mind blowing and beyond expectation. But it’s entirely possible. it’s just eckhart most probably doesn’t desire to be a ballet dancer. So that’s why it probably won’t happen. 🤣 but it’s possible! 🥹🤭✨

  • I cannot believe, to be quite frank, that you advocate belief in ANYTHING. What kind of an enlightened brain would advocate belief? Please, I want to know. Belief implies ignorance, obviously, because to see and to understand is real – to believe or conclude is ignorance, because if it was certain it wouldn’t be a mere belief or conclusion. Can you not see this obvious fact? And how spiritually irresponsible it is to advocate manifestation among people who are already in grave spiritual danger because of their spiritual ignorance. Obviously the proof of this is in the pudding, because confused and seeking the truth, which is themselves, they all swarm around you. If you stop believing and manifesting and listening to teachers who try and tell you everything you need actually to observe and understand in yourself, you might start to see clearly and understand yourself and your life. And if you do you will see there is no role for a teacher anymore – there was a role for teachers who were honest that we all had to be lights unto themselves, but the greatest shone their light into the world and still we end up with this from the alleged greatest spiritual teacher in the world. I am sure you are great, as in big, but I wonder what you are really made of.

  • Eckhart Tolle’s take on free will is spot on: “On the level of egoic unconsciousness, you are a conditioned entity—your mental-emotional makeup is totally conditioned by the past—and you are completely identified with the conditioning of your mind. In that state—that, spiritually speaking, is the ‘unconscious state’—it is obvious that there is no freedom at all because you are forced to act out the unconscious conditioning of your mind with which you are completely identified. Your actions are determined by your conditioned mind. You are forced to act as you do because there’s no choice—choice would imply some awareness. Then awareness comes in. The human being begins to awaken. Then it appears—I’m not saying it is the case, it appears—that freedom begins to be a possibility because you can choose to step out of the conditioning of your mind. You can recognize a conditioned thought, and you are no longer compelled to act it out because there is an awareness there. You can choose a certain course of action—not from the conditioning of your mind, but from presence. So, you can act and you have much more freedom, that before you could not have. Freedom comes with awareness. So, relative to the unconscious state, there is now freedom to act. But if you look more deeply even there on that level, you are connected with the totality of consciousness. You’re only an expression of the totality of consciousness. You are not really a separate entity. Was it Alan Watts who said, ‘In the same way that the wave is something that the ocean is doing, you are something that the whole universe is doing’?

  • “There is a destiny for human beings. Human beings are meant to move out of the unconsciousness state, and if they are not moving out of the consciousness state, they create suffering, and they will have to suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness, which eventually awakens them.” Thank you Eckhart.

  • We are all free to think in an attempt to come up with AN answer to explain what is in reality unknowable to everyone, or we are free to accept what is truly unknowable to us all equally and simply get on with and enjoy this wonderful experience with a heart full of trust rather than a head full of unanswerable questions. Every time we convince ourselves that our or anyone elses opinions, ideas and beliefs about the unknown are facts, we have swapped peaceful acceptance for an egotistical need to fill in the gaps with AN answer rather than the be comfortable with not knowing at all. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

  • To me Earth is a school room I am a spiritual being so I made a plan before I embodied what classes I wanted to take and so on . Still everyday I have to make a choice to go to “school ” and either follow the popular kids ( mass consciousness ) hangout with them or go study with the nerds like Eckhart and many others and learn my lessons so I can graduate out of here. Free Will Reigns Supreme .

  • I have been exploring Sam Harris and his views on free will. He is on the right track, but he could benefit by perusal this article. Eckart Tolle is a gifted and beautiful soul. His simple and compassionate views on free will give us hope. Bless him for speaking to those imprisoned due to their lack of consciousness.

  • This brings tears Thanks Eckheart. My brothers served time in prison for stealing to get drugs. They both passed on, the younger one that I didn’t visit cause was mad with him for stealing a cheque from my neighbours post. I didn’t know, I didn’t understand addiction, he was not a bad person but was unwell. The next time I saw him waa in a coffin, he was 26. It’s beautiful that your going to visit the prisons. My brothers were beautiful, but had a lot of pain in their early lives more than I’ll ever know. God bless the work🙏 Great Spirit, help me never to judge another until I have walked in his moccasins. Sioux Indian prayer

  • I have definitely been pondering this one for a while as it feels like I have been walking a predetermined path to have a set experience or lesson. The phenomenon of “Synchronicity” seems to reinforce that when things fall into place when on the path… Either way not knowing the outcome of things gives the illusion of free will like perusal a movie for the first time

  • We can only act in accordance from the level of consciousness we’re at, so on the relative level of making apparent choices, our ability to behave differently depends entirely upon allowing our level of consciousness to expand to encapsulate a broader circle of wisdom, then we can act in accordance with it

  • In a few simple words, the spiritual teacher E. Tolle answered the question that has been tormenting us – about free will – for centuries! I also believe that for those who commit crimes, nothing is better than listening to E.TOLLE’s teachings. These people fall into the gravest unconsciousness, hurting others and above all themselves. If a glimmer of light is still lit in them, this is the only way to save them, thus also saving our communities. SO grateful for your work master E. Tolle! 💓🙏

  • We are responsible for both our conscious and unconscious mind. This responsibility ends when consciousness and unconsciousness are cleaned from the grip of the past. This is done merely by an attentive observation/meditation . Some “ordinary” people are much more effective in this process than the “meditation elites”, as they know how to keep all the process of cleansing quite simple. Eckhart is a genuine “elite” who knows how to put this in the simplest way.🙏

  • When i try to achieve consciousness, my mind is more depressed by following various methods with the desire of awareness or consciousness.. Consciousness is not about focusing or aware of ur emotions… It is COSMIC KNOWLEDGE…that is the awareness… Flow with emotions, mind thoughts whatever comes ur way.but when u have the knowledge about ur suffering that is created by mind, u will not be addicted to ur emotions without repressing..

  • “Free will” itself, as a concept, is IN ERROR. Each time the appearance of choice arises within consciousness, it projects the illusion of a separately existing entity – the ego. But there is no separately existing Self even TO make decisions given the choices that appear in thought form So the concept of “free will” is a play by Maya that projects the ego. To be truly free is to be transcendent of CHOICE ITSELF. A choice is a limitation on the pure potential that is true Self. Pure, undifferentiated Awareness is Well it just IS

  • Interesting perspective on free will. “Freedom comes with awareness”…perfect! Right now I have the free will to choose presence over subconscious monkey chatter… there.. it is done…. I can choose to do shadow integration work and use reprogramming techniques over being a victim of programming and my own ego.. The common person will use circumstance as excuse for why their life is not working.. the spiritual warrior will take responsibility for everything right or wrong in their world no matter what was done against them because we know in this interplay of consciousness we created everything in our world both individually and collectively and we have the ability to change our frequencies (it starts with presence) to change what circumstances and people we attract into our lives and change our lives to better match our ideals.

  • You have no free will when you are unconscious. When you act consciously, you have free will at one level, relative to unconscious actions. But relative to the totality of consciousness, you have no free will because there is only One (God, consciousness). The ocean is doing waves, as consciousness is doing you. Thanks Eckhart. 21 December 2022.🥇🎪🚣‍♂️👍🐼🦅🎯🌈🌷🍭🤩

  • Wow! Thank you Eckhart! Totally in agreement! It’s wonderful to hear that you are going to help prisoners! Humanity is sick! We are sick people trying to get well! Not, bad people trying to get good! The only solution is, A Spiritual Awakening! Merry Christmas! Please everyone, remember the reason for the season! It’s a celebration! Without Jesus, Eckhart, and other spiritual masters we would be starved of the bread of life! ❤

  • Are Our Lives Predestined or Not? “This is not a personal problem, it is a philosophical question. Our lives are both predestined and they are not. Both yes and no. And both answers are true for all questions about life. In a way, everything is predetermined. Whatever is physical in you, material, whatever is mental, is predetermined. But something in you constantly remains undetermined, unpredictable. That something is your consciousness. If you are identified with your body and your material existence, in the same proportion you are determined by cause and effect. Then you are a machine. But if you are not identified with your material existence, with either body or mind – if you can feel yourself as something separate, different, above and transcendent to body-mind – then that transcending consciousness is not predetermined. It is spontaneous, free. Consciousness means freedom; matter means slavery. So it depends on how you define yourself. If you say, “I am only the body,” then everything about you is completely determined. A person who says that man is only the body cannot say that man is not predetermined. Ordinarily, persons who do not believe in such a thing as consciousness also do not believe in predetermination. Persons who are religious and believe in consciousness ordinarily believe in predetermination. So what I am saying may look very contradictory. But still, it is the case. A person who has known consciousness has known freedom. So only a spiritual person can say there is no determination at all.

  • Fascinating. It seems to me that universal consciousness will punish us or cause us suffering when we are not acting in a way that is conscious, loving, peaceful etc. And this suffering almost forces us to change or we will continue to suffer. So, universal consciousness changes us by giving us positive or negative feedback (karma). So ultimately, we don’t really have “free will” but karmic consciousness brings about awareness which forces us to change lol :)) So, I would say when we have awareness then we can choose to repeat old unconscious behaviour or choose the more conscious path, so we do kind of have free will lol :)) Its very complicated but I understand what Eckhart is saying.

  • Perception of unawareness as root cause of malpractice immediately challenges our concept of guilt and atonement. Even though we’re responsible for what we’re doing: as all our wrongdoings emanate from an unfree will, from an inability of perception of reality, the mindset of the society must be love and understanding: every sentence must strive for a useful measure of future prevention based on a real understanding of the cause of the doing and an effort to discover the public’s own share of responsability! In most cases: Declaring people as guilty and lock them in prisons is inhuman, not only useless but counterproductive – and also very unaware of reality.

  • Consciousness is choosing and you are expression of it is like Parallel to Schopenhauer’s will and subject being mere object of it (its representation).Einstein: in Schopenhauers words a man can chose what he wants, but cannot will what he wants”. Even free will is illusion “the-thing-in-itself” is free (which Nietzsche criticized that doesn’t exist, instead it is multiple forces competing for control or have it multiple things-in-themselves in relation to each other) .

  • Leonardo da Vinci said “The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions ” Plato shared with us wisdom he learnt from Egypt, wisdom that was a death sentence in Greece, Rome (Christianity) ..Pythagoras, Socrates and later Hypatia of Alexandria. Plato in his dialogue “The Republic ” tells the parable of ” The Cave ” Plato starts by telling us of prisoners being held in a underground den, let us examine this den via the geometry of Bernhard Riemann and Felix Klein..Klein bottle..3rd and 4th dimensions. Plato tells us that the prisoners are bound up unable to move their heads, let us examine this bondage via the psychology of Erich Fromm..socialisation of consciousness..aware-unaware. Plato tells us that the prisoners mistake shadows for substance, let us examine this mistake via the philosophy of Thales,Hume and Kant..synthetic a priori judgement..not thing in itself. Plato tells us that one of the prisoners is released, let us examine this release via the wisdom of T Lobsang Rampa..stilling the mind and conscious astral travel..leaving the cave/body. Plato tells us that the prisoners will reject this release, let us examine this rejection via the psychology of Stockholm Syndrome..Plato quotes Homer..forgive them for they know not what they say. Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds. Mathew 23 13 31.

  • My personal take on this after what I believe is true is that Karma is at the very beginning caused by free will. A blank slate with no pre-existing “past” karma to affect that present moment. And so that individual is pure and free and chooses some path (karma) to experience. Over time, due to naiveness and ignorance (like an archetypical child), one might make decisions (karma) that might not be so “positive” for example. and so this builds up karmic debts in that individual which would in a way have to be offset based on karmic laws eventually. and so overtime, free will seems to not be there due to past tendencies being built up and causing certain karmic debts that would have to be paid in certain fixed situations in “future” lifetimes. Free will is always there and karmic debts that can’t be avoided are there to allow one to correct one’s “erroneous” action along the way.

  • He said, ” ultimately there is no individual ” well, Isn’t it an individual saying that, realizing that? A truth is that which is realized to be true, but a realization is something personal that’s why it’s your truth. So if you say, ” ultimately there is no individual ” you are realizing that personally and expressing it personally through your own individuality.

  • Rather than “Awareness” being the essence of who you really are, could it be that you are experiencing an interface between “Awareness” & your physical Form? My reason for suggesting this is that “Awareness” totally disappears to you when you are unconscious. This suggests that without a physical Form, or when the physical Form is not in a conscious state, contact between “Awareness” & your physical Form stops. Perhaps there is a universal “Awareness” & this “Awareness” continues forever, but your Form is impermanent & conditioned and eventually ceases. If you take this reasoning further, “Awareness” appears to have access to the world of form through your physical Form. Your reward, is that through practice you have access to the power “Awareness” offers by becoming mindful or aware of ‘Awareness”. However when you expire it is finished for you. Can this be explained?

  • . A womens prison! You are so awesome! I would have loved to hear you when I was in jail! It was magical, we all held hands in a circle and prayed! I had never been to jail, so I’m not sure if that is the usual experience or not that I did have, but it would have been over the top if you showed up to pray with us 💙💙💙 or meditate or whatever you will do there. Thank you. This is a true story.

  • can’t we just NOT EXIST after death( no dreaming, no pain, no devils no angels etc, etc)……is that a choice we have ?….or do we have to exist or live on even if we don’t want to?…..are were on a karmic cycle where God, the universe or creator keep on reincarnating us UNTIL THIS FORCE deems we are good enough or pure enough to join it……wot if we don’t want to join it?… maybe some of us want to be left alone forever…no gods, no devils, nothing……none of these gurus provide evidence that karma, reincarnation, or proving miracles exist, most are born into WELL OFF RICH FAMILIES…….no wonder they want to live forever, who wouldn’t!!Lol.

  • Liberty is relative. We need an even more general theory of relativity😃. And from an understanding of relativity and the fact that everything depends on the observer, Jung’s ideas about individuation take on a new level of meaning. It must be remembered that the world is dual in its unity and the struggle of opposites. Therefore, one essence cannot completely dominate the other. One essence is superior in a certain ratio (20/80% pleasure/suffering, for example) so that in the next cycle the ratio is reversed to achieve equilibrium. My point is that NOT EVERYTHING is relative. Rather, there is an invariant. Like the invariant of mass in Einstein’s formula. And there is a relative mass, which depends on velocity and is therefore relative. But as far as I understand, Einstein himself was not sure of the existence of the invariant. As for suffering, it is the accumulation of Tapas(तपस्) in the age of low consciousness, in order to realize it in the cycle of high awareness. This is one way of describing the process. It is clear that it is difficult to describe the processes taking place in the universe with simple words. It has to be felt. At the level of the logic of the universe, the laws are absolute, but one should not use that logic in ordinary human life literally. We can feel their absolute perfection, but we are unable to achieve it in our lives. Therefore “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”

  • In order to enlighten the scope of such discourse we must define “Knowledge.” There are two types of knowledge: 1)A Posteriori knowledge which is based on empirical facts. 2) A Priori knowledge which is given to a being at birth inherent in his/her genetic sequence. This is in relation to the fragmentation of particle dilution which exists in a being’s coding. God allows humans to do the greatest of good or the greatest of evil. This is the result of the soul (20 below strings) being infinitely elastic. The issue of “free will” is correlated to whether a being will act in manner antithetical to his/ her nature. The freedom to “Choose” is not incessantly binding to the freedom of exercising that choice. A human being’s choice to “act” has been pre determined by a set of variables which govern the construct of particle depth. Consequently, the choice has been made prior to the act itself.

  • when a human being is conditioned and thus unconscious, his actions are accountable, like criminals are. But when he is fully present and conscious, in which case he is guided by one consciousness-the universal intelligence, is it that no mistake can be made because it is a conscious action dictated by universal intelligence. Does it mean that when you are fully present/ conscious, all the actions you take are likely to be correct and no mistake can be made. But in practice, on this planet, it is the conscious people, who are put to gallows because unconscious people judge their actions unpardonable. That means even when you have freewill, it has no meaning as long as you are subject to judgement by unconscious people.

  • The culprits are also victim. That’s why whole society structure and people are responsible for every single crime happening in our society. Than why single person is being held responsible and being punished ?? Secondly, don’t you think criminals need much more love and compassion instead of punishment because criminals are wounded inside too. Does punishing them heals there deep rooted hurt and wounds ?? By punishing already wounded person will hurt him more and make matters worst instead of awakening. How much suffering is needed before awakening ?? This so called law and judicial system aren’t helping society but creating more criminals. We should create a society were criminals should also get love and compassion instead of condemn, hatred and punishment. Love heals, not punishment. So, I don’t agree with Eckhart view’s on this time

  • “They suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness.” I have to add though that there is suffering of consciousness too. Everything has consequences being conscious has consequences and being unconscious has consequences. How I see it is that we live in a universe of causality and it’s not a matter of if someone is to be blamed when it’s in their nature to be for example a murderer, but the consequences society chooses it should have for being one. In the end you are what the universe does and no one is to be blamed for what the universe does, but you have to live through it one way or another. There is no free will by definition. Free is to be able to choose whatever, like a white canvas. Once the canvas is not in that state it looses its freedom. Free is to be undecided, undefined.

  • no, yes we may be able to decide which shirt we wanna wear today and how we wanna react, if we havethe conciousness for it but to be honest our soul is the boss😂although our ego doesnt wanna hear it. and i also dont think that we can do everything we want cause the soul doesn not waste energy…. maybe a little bit to play but not for long if it isnot really on the path.

  • His last comment about responsibility, implies that there is a choice… to choose to become more conscious, or to fall into unconsciousness and suffer the consequences, (both routes leading to awakening). Does this just mean there are people destined to wake up by climbing up the hill? And some people destined to wake up by falling down it? If im destined to awaken by falling down the hill, why am i so set on trying to climb it, seems like a cruel joke. But hey “im just the universe being a guy, mocking the universe”. A joke. This game sucks, wheres the restart button, i wanna change characters. Hopefully someone whos blissfully unaware of weather or not theyre destined to fall up, or down the hill.

  • What if you do have Free Will because the creator of that is you. I AM THAT of GOD….. Intentions followed by Actions to Manifest Growth Oneness and Divine way of interacting with “others” beyouthefull expression of the same consciousness. As we treat “others” the same as we treat our “self” we align with divine. It’s seems man’s plan has really got things in a bundle lately all thanks to “our” free will decisions to explore a pathway that will surely offer opportunity to grow.

  • I just checked this article out because I haven’t kept with Eckhart for years, to see where his teachings and discourse is. I can safely say taking Eckhart’s prespective too seriously has been quite detrimental to my journey a few years ago. These divisions between conscious and unconsious state……….our conditioning and us….are totally arbitrary and were I to really take them on I’d think I wouldn’t be exercizing free will unless I was “fully in the present moment” or something. I also had kundalini awakening gone awry by using some of his meditations. Now, I’m not blaming him for that incident….but all these little things ammount to a more informed view on his teachings and their impact. To be honest, while I see the benefit in Tolle delivering his message in that repetitive manner he does……..the fact he doesn’t aknowledge more nuance to spirituality in general…….and how things can be viewed from many angles, including awakening, shows me he might be slightly stuck in a certain model himself. What should be something enpowering ends up being stiffling in many ways, and quite incorrect in apprehending all that goes into going through this transformation.

  • Destiny or free will question is probably most difficult to answer for any master/guru At the level of heightened awareness one can see that consciousness expresses itself as motive force behind everything. At the level of ego identified mind it’s about improving your condition/ changing it Even for persons who reached higher states it’s necessary to keep doing/ changing worldly things with higher sense of purpose Shams Tabriz ( friend of Rumi )aptly puts it. Destiny is to the level you play your tune. It’s not about pre thought out outcomes.

  • I’m fairy early on in my journey but have been getting stuck in the way of the awareness I hold of course does not eliminate the compulsion of saying or doing the exact thing I do not want to do or say in the moment and although I’m aware of what is going on for me (tired, stressed etc) and even aware I don’t need to let the ego in I still do almost every time. I’m trying to break through this and feel it’s imperative so I welcome any feedback. God Bless.

  • Impossible to have a conditioned entity because all entities are a thing with distinct and independent existence. Your mind is just a receiver from your imprinted knowledge, the imprinted knowledge which is its own entity of distinct and independent existence. The only time the mind is not aware of its imprinted knowledge is when the individual confuses themselves by seeking external beliefs for their sanctum, and that’s about 99% of the time. The imprinted knowledge is the individual for its reproductive host ( the human), a once scattered elements of the Universe to a fusing of certain elements to form its imprinted knowledge entity. Evolve thee.

  • The words True and False are also in the same order, an expression of Good and Evil – Earth is a place where both good and evil exist – Man learns the difference between good and evil because he can choose between them – Truth do not contradict truth and one truth can build on another, False can contradict False and contradicts Truth, and what one builds with False falls down – In order to build Truth on Truth (continuously and systematic), we must look up to something higher outside ourselves, and that higher is Jesus Christ.

  • Eckahart doesn’t seem to understand the main reason you have no free will. He implies it’s only because you are “conditioned” by the past as he says at the beginning. It’s far beyond that. Your brain is not just conditioned on the past, but every thought and action are due to its current chemo-electrical state (neurons firing, etc) which are in turn dependent on all previous states, etc etc. So there is zero room for a free agent you call “you.” In other words, what happends is the result of an endless chain of physical activity in your brain, so that free will is an illusion. A powerful one but an illusion nonetheless.

  • In order to control my mind I would have to be separate from it like I am my mobile phone. Not only is this impossible, but there is no such object as a mind, or a you to control such an object. Which also makes it impossible to be a victim of such an object, or for that matter thoughts, which also do not occurr in such an object as mind.

  • There is intuition and empathy, the intuition makes you feel that this negative emotion you are about to act on feels wrong or just negative or just not the energy that you want to vibrate, and empathy makes you be aware of the energy that you and other people are vibrating so you act accordingly, plus if you really believe in goodnes not even in a god entity then you will measure your decisions and reactions accordingly too.

  • To whom he speak? He is one with everything and everyone, and yet he separates himself while teaching others. If he had taken that “oneness seriously, he would have kept silent. There would be no one to talk to, only pure awareness. So he still talks to himself, but it doesn’t bother thousands of people from calling him awaken:-).

  • I dont understand the clapping…we should not be pedestalizing or idolizing what he is or is saying. He didnt perform an act or a song, he’s just talking about what he knows based on his experience. We should be grateful he is here to help awaken the world, but clapping for everything he says like hes a politician with interesting ideas is weird. hes speaking the deepest truths of reality. Also, I’m pretty sure Charles Manson had an awakening in prison. he talked about his changes and meditation and such.

  • So Free will is in the WANT of finding of self while experiencing pre determined destiny. Amazing. Life is predetermined, but the choice of waking up while on it is free will!❤ I think I slightly get it now. 🥲. I did see Sri Ramana Maharshi’s article on it but the vocab was too deep although the meaning was same., thanks Ekhart 🙏🏼

  • Yeah. Is it even important ? It’s free or not free, who cares. In practice the freedom of your will is so much limited (both internally and externally) that it degrades the significance of that freedom into basically 0. So use your “free” will happily, regardless of that it’s really free or not. In most of the cases you will sck. It’s not even an important, t@rturing question. It’s much more important who or what thought that it will be enough to us what we can accomplish by that who cares what kind of a will. (We all are just the slaves of this universe.)

  • if there is no freedom the logical conclusion is that the Universe/God/Life is bassicaly responsible that encouncious people exist and for the evil they make. To give the example the Ocean is responsible that some waves stay in the bay but some go to the storm. If this is a case bad people should never be punished (maybe isolated) as they cannot choose different.

  • 6:25 “Punish”, why would an enlightened person even think of such an action? Punishment is not helpful to anyone, to any living creature. So-called criminals are an outgrowth of a sick society, a symptom of the collective. Who via ignorance look toward the other and declare him or her a criminal as they have broken some law which was written by men to protect themselves in every way. Laws which are designed to protect one with and deny another, as with say stealing. A man has plenty but does not give. A man has none so takes. The crime is in the man who through force declares whatever “property”. So yes, the one who thinks in terms of ownership will suffer due to their delusion, which was ingrained by all others. Those who believe in property will also suffer if they have not and have to resort to “stealing”. The talk of “karmic retribution” is again absurd. As I’ve shown above, the whole of society is based on theft. No one can own anything, that is just the mind thinking it can and then makes up laws, proofs, etc, to enforce such a belief. So what happens to the collective in Tolle’s “karmic retribution”? Is everyone destined to suffer endlessly until they understand that all forms of ownership is actually a form of theft, of utter delusion? So is the thief an agent of karma, is the property owner an agent of karma? It is all very complex and yet exceedingly immature. Life is not like that at all, not in actuality. If I trip and hurt my hand, sure there is a cause, and sure there is an effect, but that is that.

  • With working in a prison as a guard, I learned I was in my own mind prison and wanted to release myself “know thyself”, with that I wanted to know also how people became prisoners. I started to study the human behaviour patterns. Thanks for this awakening, so I could help myself and motivate prisoners, with showing them they have a choice to change 😊
