Does General Mike Flynn Think That Conspiracies Exist?

Michael Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and former national security advisor to President Donald Trump, has been accused of spreading anti-democratic and anti-Muslim conspiracy theories. In a video teleconference deposition for the January 6 committee, Representative Liz Cheney asked Flynn if the violence on January 6 was justified. Flynn recently told GOP lawyer Lin Wood that he believes QAnon is “total nonsense” and baselessly claimed the false idea that Trump will somehow win the 2020 election.

Flynn’s taste for fake news and conspiracy theories has led to backlash and accusations that he has been building a political movement mixing conspiracy theory with Christian nationalist ideas. The special counsel overseeing all Department of Justice investigations related to former President Donald Trump has seemed to focus in this area.

An investigation by The Associated Press and Frontline found that Flynn, the retired Army general and former Trump national security adviser, has been systematically involved in the spread of conspiracy theories. He took over a nonprofit group, which soon began paying five of his relatives and trafficking in conspiracy.

In military intelligence, Flynn was renowned for his skill in connecting the dots and finding terrorists. However, his dot detector began to become a source of conspiracy theories. An Intercept investigation has found that Flynn’s ties to the QAnon phenomenon stretch back much further than the July 4 weekend last year when he was a mentor to Flynn in Afghanistan.

  • Mike Flynn was the one that was so thrilled to chant, “Lock her up” over and over again. Why isn’t he or the many audience members chanting now that he is the one getting locked up? Remember, those that are committing crimes should NEVER bring attention to others that are committing crimes. That light just may shine brighter on you.

  • What the GOP either doesn’t understand, or, more likely, is pretending not to understand, is that when a foreign nation (Ukraine, for example) appears to prefer one U.S. Presidential candidate over another and perhaps even criticizes one candidate, that is NOT the same thing as a large scale concerted effort to actively influence the outcome of a U.S. election… Criticizing one candidate and/or voicing concerns regarding how the outcome might potentially effect a foreign nation in no way implies a campaign to influence the outcome such as Russia has been shown to have perpetrated. Many GOP members are attempting to muddy this distinction, and the American people need to understand this… It is the single point that needs to be hammered home clearly, and should be a primary focus for all who would oppose the GOP in their efforts to sway public opinion regarding the impeachment proceedings. One must also understand that there is no single unified voice of Ukraine representing the nation as a whole. They are divided, with many Russian loyalists who would obviously support Russian agendas conflicting with U.S. national interests. When we talk about Ukraine, it should be with an understanding of the different factions and their opposing agendas. Put simply, part of the country is “on our side,” or perhaps more accurately, we are “on their side,” while the rest are, for all practical purposes, agents of Russia… We can not discuss Ukraine in any context as if they are all of one mind, either with us or against us.

  • As a history buff I have watched the BBC’s 4.5 hours documentary a few times over the years and one sentence the narrator said about Nixon has always stood out to me. “His proclamations of doing the right thing for his nation conveniently coincided with his self interest” ” Lest you forget. For those who forget history are doomed to repeat it ” – Kipling. The same applies for everyone mentioned and your President.

  • That reading of the report sounds brilliant it’s amazingly different to what AG Barr is stating about the report just as he did with the Mueller investigation. It’s so much nicer to see the report being looked at the word for word content over well I looked at it read disagree with and now I’ll twist it into something the report never said that comes from out of Barr’s mouth.

  • Time for flynn to start singing. A general is bound to have the balls to wait it out, but his son has criminal jeopardy too. If he was a patriot he would not have made the call he got caught on, by accident. What puzzles me is, with him being in the intelligence community how did he not know how we spy on foreign adversaries.

  • Try to read the conclusions with the eyes of Donald Trump and crazies like Steve Miller or phonies like Jim Jordan and Ted Cruz. Then it reads like a propaganda pamphlet of the deep state. E.g. if you presume Russian interference in the 2016 election did not occur and was a hoax by Democrats to delegitimize Trump’s election, the report reads quite differently.

  • Maddow: it would make a better sound bite and logically connect better with people’s brains if you said: “FBI was justified in opening the investigation” Instead of “FBI did nothing wrong.” Trump supporters make hay from the ‘nothing wrong’ misstatement. FBI made some missteps that were not serious but Republicans can magnify them.

  • BREAKING: US Attorney John Durham Releases Statement Disputing IG Report Conclusions Cristina Laila by Cristina Laila December 9, 2019 1152 Comments 9.8KShare562TweetEmail John Durham The DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz finally released his report on FISA abuses on Monday. The report revealed what we knew to be true all along — the FBI defrauded the FISA court and purposely omitted exculpatory information from the FISA judges in order to obtain FOUR FISA warrants on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page. Read more Horowitz, however concluded that the FBI investigation into Trump was not politically motivated — and John Durham hit back. US Attorney from Connecticut John Durham immediately released a statement following the release of the FISA report and disputed Horowitz’s findings and conclusions. “I have the utmost respect for the mission of the Office of Inspector General and the comprehensive work that went into the report prepared by Mr. Horowitz and his staff. However, our investigation is not limited to developing information from within component parts of the Justice Department. Our investigation has included developing information from other persons and entities, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S. Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened,” John Durham said in a rare statement.

  • IG Shuts Down James Comey: No One Is ‘Vindicated’ by My Report NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – OCTOBER 26: James Comey speaks onstage during the 2019 Politicon at Music City Center on October 26, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Jason Kempin/Getty Images for Politicon )Jason Kempin/Getty Images for Politicon JOSHUA CAPLAN11 Dec 20191,556 2:28 Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Wednesday shot down former FBI Director James Comey’s claim that the FISA abuse report vindicates him against allegations of wrongdoing during the bureau’s investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign. “I think the activities we found here don’t vindicate anybody who touched this FISA,” Horowitz testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, answering a question on whether Comey was “vindicated” by the report. The internal watchdog for the U.S. Department of Justice said in a highly-anticipated report Monday efforts by federal authorities to conduct surveillance on a member of President Donald Trump’s campaign as part of the Russia investigation were rife with mistakes, but contained nothing improper or illegal. The 476-page report by department Inspector General Michael Horowitz answered long-standing accusations by the Trump administration that the FBI illegally spied on former campaign adviser Carter Page while searching for evidence of collusion between the team and Russia. It specified 17 inaccuracies involving three applications filed under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which may have inflated the bureau’s justification for surveillance against Page, the report said.

  • Scarborough Virtually Admits: I Aim to Destroy Trump Cause He Mocked Mika Listen to the Article! 2495 Shares Tweet 111 By Mark Finkelstein | December 9, 2019 10:50 AM EST We’ve long suspected that Joe Scarborough’s rhetorical jihad on President Trump was fueled by Trump’s tweet in which he wrote that Mika Brzezinski, Scarborough’s wife-to-be, was “bleeding badly from a facelift.” And now we have confirmation. This morning, Scarborough virtually admitted that the insult does indeed lie at the heart of his anti-Trump vendetta. Much of the opening segment of today’s Morning Joe was devoted to tearing into Ted Cruz for defending President Trump, despite Trump, during the 2016 campaign, having said unflattering things about Cruz, his wife, and father. Donny Deutsch was attacking “the pathetic wienieness” of Cruz for allying with Trump after Cruz attacked his family, and suggested to Scarborough that a real man never does that: DONNY DEUTSCH: I want to just go back to Ted Cruz as a man for a second. Joe, you grew up in Pensacola, I grew up in Queens. What would your reaction be if somebody came after your father, if somebody came after your wife? You know, the pathetic wienieness of him. I couldn’t wait to run against a guy like that and say, what kind of man not only lets it happen, but then gets on the bandwagon of somebody who went after their dad, who went after their wife, called their wife ugly. Joe, I know you’re a very genteel man, in Pensacola they just debate things in a very nice way.

  • “This information provided the FBI with an articulable factual basis that, IF TRUE (capitalized by me), reasonably indicated activity constituting either a federal crime or a threat to national security, or both, may have occurred or may be occurring.” The problem was, dear Rachel, that it wasn´t true!

  • Attorney General William Barr said, “From day one — remember, they said, okay, we’re not going to talk to the campaign. We’re going to put people in there, rile them up and have conversations with people involved in the campaign because that way, we’ll get the truth. From the very first day of this investigation, which is July 31st, 2016, all the way to its end, September 2017, there was not one incriminatory bit of evidence to come in. It was all exculpatory. The people with the tapings denied it with Russia, denied the specific facts that the FBI was relying on. So what happens? The FBI ignores it, presses ahead, withholds that information from the court, withholds critical exculpatory information from the court while it gets an electronic surveillance warrant. It also withholds from the court clear cut evidence that the dossier that they ultimately relied on to get the FISA warrant was a complete sham.” “They hid information about the lack of the liability, even when they went the first time for the warrant. But in January, after the election, the entire case collapsed when the principal source says I never told this. I never told Steele this stuff. And this was also speculation. And I have zero information to support this stuff. At that point, when their entire case collapsed, what do they do? They kept on investigating the president well into his administration after the case collapsed. But here to me is the damning thing: They not only didn’t tell the court that what they had been relying on was completely, you know, rubbish, they actually started putting in things to bolster this Steele report by saying we talked to the sources and they appeared to be truthful.
