The amulet, broken and uncertain of his status as a trollhunter, is given to Jim by Aja, but it is not helpful. The Excalibur, with a similar stone, can make things right. In “The Unbecoming”, Jim passes by the amulet, leaving it to be claimed by Draal. Jim’s life improves, but Gunmar claims it before the events in Trollhunter: Rise of the Titans.
In the movie, Jim allows Toby to find the amulet in Kanjigar’s remains. The movie ends with Jim allowing Toby to find the amulet, introducing Toby as the next promising character. In the first season, Jim stumbles upon Merlin’s amulet, and Toby also finds it. However, the amulet is destroyed, leaving Jim without his Trollhunter powers.
After school, Jim activates the amulet, meeting his trainers, Blinky, and AAARRRGGHH!!!. He later becomes the Amulet’s first half-troll wielder and its last wielder after it was destroyed by the Arcane Order to resurrect Morgana. Jim might still possess the rebuilt amulet, but there should be two Trollhunters now. Jim possesses three distinct versions of the amulet, each having special importance to the overall story.
As Jim faces serious accusations from the Tribunal, he sees what his life would be like if he hadn’t found the amulet. His voice changes in Trollhunters due to his testicles dropping. The ending of the series highlights the importance of Jim’s journey and the potential for him to become a hero.
📹 Why the Ending of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans is Terrible
I really gave the ending a chance, but I just can’t say it’s good, so in this video, I list 5 reasons why I no longer like the ending of …
Is Jim Lake still the Trollhunter?
Trollhunters is a series that follows the protagonist Jim, a human trollhunter who is the son of Barbara Lake and best friends with Toby Domzaski. In the third season, Jim is transformed into a half-troll and full-on troll in Wizards by the Arcane Order and the Green Knight. However, he is revived back to his human form by Claire in Wizards and becomes Excalibur’s new wielder in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. Tobias “Toby” Domzalski, Jim’s best friend and confidant, is a troll hybrid who aids Jim in his quests.
In Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, Toby sacrifices himself to save his best friend, resulting in Jim turning back time to the first episode. Claire Nuñez, Jim’s love interest and girlfriend, is a sarcastic, kind, and intelligent tomboy who enjoys books and is a talented martial artist and gymnast. She obtains the Shadow Staff, Skrathe-Hrun, which creates portals activated by the user’s emotions.
Does Jim ever get his amulet back?
The Amulet of Daylight, created by Merlin, was a magical amulet that served as a symbol of power and office for the Trollhunter. It could summon the Trollhunter Armor and the Sword of Daylight, and was capable of unlocking the Eclipse Armor and the only known weapon capable of permanently killing Gunmar. The amulet was destroyed by the Arcane Order to release Morgana from the Shadow Realm. The Trollhunter could only acquire all three Triumbric Stones to unlock the Eclipse Armor and the Eclipse Blade.
Is Douxie stronger than Jim?
The speaker posits that Jim Lake Jr. possesses a distinct advantage due to his physical strength, speed, and resilience, while Douxie is perceived as having greater power. It is perceived as somewhat amusing that the film was created with Bellroc’s vulnerability, thereby enabling Jim to emerge victorious.
What happened to Jim’s amulet?
Jim Lake Jr., a young human trollhunter, discovers Kanjigar’s remains in a canal and an amulet named after him. He activates the amulet and meets his trainers, Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!!. After being destroyed by the Arcane Order, Krel and Stuart rebuild the amulet with magic and Akiridion technology. Jim allows Toby Domzalski to become the new timeline’s Trollhunter. The amulet is a compact, circular metal clock, resembling a small trollish-gothic clock. Its framework is built around a round, flat, crystal-blue gem called the Daylight stone. When Triumbric Stones are inserted into the amulet, the gemstone glows a deep red.
What happened to Dean’s amulet?
In the episode entitled “Dark Side of the Moon,” Castiel returns an amulet to Dean, who subsequently determines that it is of no intrinsic value. Dean is disconcerted to discover that Sam’s memories are absent, and he discards the item as they depart from the hotel.
Does Jim get his amulet back?
The Amulet of Daylight, created by Merlin, was a magical amulet that served as a symbol of power and office for the Trollhunter. It could summon the Trollhunter Armor and the Sword of Daylight, and was capable of unlocking the Eclipse Armor and the only known weapon capable of permanently killing Gunmar. The amulet was destroyed by the Arcane Order to release Morgana from the Shadow Realm. The Trollhunter could only acquire all three Triumbric Stones to unlock the Eclipse Armor and the Eclipse Blade.
Why can’t Jim take off the amulet?
Aaron Waltke posits that Jim’s emotional turbulence has precluded his ability to remove his amulet, as it has rendered him immobile and is responsive to his emotional state. Should Jim regain his composure, the amulet will resume its typical functioning.
Does Jim stay a troll forever?
Half-Trolls are hybrid creatures that are not quite human and not quite troll. The only known member is Jim Lake Jr., who was permanently transformed into one before becoming human again. Half-Trolls live similar to ordinary trolls, but may have a tendency to live independently. Their physical description is more humanoid, with human-like characteristics like two opposite hands, large horns, sharp fangs, and small pointy ears. They also have different colored skin pigment stones and slightly more human-like noses, unlike most trolls with koala-like noses.
Does Jim have two amulets?
In “Unbecoming”, Merlin sends Jim into an alternate timeline where he is not chosen by the amulet, a deliberate creation by Merlin. This new timeline allows Jim to retain all his memories and maintain awareness within time loops. However, during the end of Rise of the Titans, Jim forgets everything about his new Akiridion friends due to his participation in resetting the timeline. In Rise of the Titans, Jim uses the Time Stone to travel back to the beginning of his adventure, retaining all his memories and planning to use his knowledge to give his friends a better future. However, the timeline reset erases Aja and Steve’s children, and they may still have children in the future.
With the Time Stone in his new amulet, Jim can travel back to the events of “Becoming: Part 1” with his memories intact. In Wizards, two amulets can exist simultaneously, so Jim’s new one remains in his possession. In the new timeline, both Toby and Jim now have Amulets – Jim’s new Magiktech one and Toby the Original one, made by Merlin.
Did Sam keep the amulet?
In Season 3, an 8-year-old girl named Sam receives a necklace from Bobby, intended for John for Christmas. However, when John doesn’t show up, Sam gives it to Dean, who wears it all the time. The necklace, made of brass, is metallic golden and depicts a humanoid head with horns and African tribal adornment. It is worn with a black cord and is heavily inspired by the Hindu deity Bhavänï, or Goddess Bhavänï.
Is Jim the strongest Trollhunter?
The adolescent Jim underwent a profound metamorphosis, becoming the most formidable Trollhunter in recorded history, capable of withstanding trials that would have overwhelmed even the most seasoned hunters. His physical capabilities were enhanced, rendering him invulnerable in a technical sense. His senses were enhanced, and his abilities as a human remained at his disposal.

I was shocked and my heart totally sank when it comes to the finale. And I feel really unsatisfied to notice that (Rise of the Titans) is going to be the end of the series. Well, I can’t imagine Toby being the trollhunter, it feels like everything is gonna change. What if trolls successfully brought eternal night in the new timeline? I have to say the finale is too open, but the rest is brilliant.
I’m still upset that I predicted Toby’s death but I thought they were going to make a 20 year jump and show Jim and Claire with their kids and older Steve and Aja with their now teens basically telling them the story of Tobey the Hero and it has the beginning of Troll hunters as like a flashback. I also thought Douxie was going to be the powerful wizard since Merlin said ” My greatess success was saving you”
You know what really makes the ending terrible? The fact that it went against the entire message of the series. Every addition to TOA contained strong messages about destiny, responsibility, sacrifice, and facing harsh realities. They spent 5 years portraying those morals on the screen through their stories and the ending essentially takes all those messages and goes “PSYCH”! None of the sacrifices matter, Jim abandons his responsibilitie, and his supposed destiny goes to someone else. Not to mention the fact that Jim’s actions completely go against his character. The Jim I came to love was a mature, responsible person who was willing to accept his destiny. And then suddenly he just decides to throw it away? I cannot for the life of me imagine the Jim from Trollhunters, 3below, or Wizards doing something like that! Heck, I can’t imagine the Jim in the first hour of the movie doing something like that! They literally just changed his character in the last ten minutes of the movie! Which is somehow more infuriating! Ok, rant over.
Douxie didn’t technically agree for Jim to reset the timeline, cause he remembered what Merlin taught him about messing with time. You’d think Jim would remember the risk him, Claire, Steve and Douxie took to get back to the 21st century… So obviously, he should’ve thought about THAT than going back to screw time up even more. I think Jim just needs to learn how to move on, just like Douxie. Sure Douxie was still grieving for Merlin’s death and then destroying his staff, but you could see that he was moving on even after losing Archie and Nari he was still moving on. TLDR: Jim should learn to leave things alone and move on (TLDR meaning: Too Long Didn’t Read)
Not just that… toby ALWAYS wanted to be a duke, a sidekick, obviously he is not just a sidekick or anything but still he never wanted to be leading anything… and jim just throws thats aside and gives toby the amulet and was like: well, gud luck! And thats just stupid! Imagine your best friend giving YOU a. ginormous responsibility to carry and he os a TIME TRAVELER THAT KNOWS EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE UNIVERSE!!! FORGET GAYLEN’S CORE JIM IS A GOD TO EVERYTHING!!!
I know this will probably sound stupid, but here’s how I pictured a good ending to Arcadia: After the final battle, Jim and gang find Toby in the rubble and sees him die. Nari (who survived her battle with Skrael, but her legs are paralyzed) chose to sacrifice her life to bring Toby back. And it actually works, but leaves Toby’s legs paralyzed. There would be a time skip of about 10 years into the future, where society has formed into a unified utopia. With the contributions of Human, Troll, Akiridion, and Wizard to form this scientific-fantastic world. Each of the characters follow these fates: -Jim and Claire got married and formed an emissary between the human and magic peoples -Barbara opened up a hospital and formed a new medical science involving magic -Blinky started teaching both humans and troll in various subjects -Toby married Darci Scott and became an author. Writing down his adventures he had. AAARRRGGHH!!! is still his wingman and is still by his side. -Krel Tarron chose a life as DJ Kleb and became the number one artist in the galaxy. -Steve Palchuk marries Aja Tarron and formed a intergalactic military with Varvatos Vex and Commander and Eli Pepperjack as intelligence. -Douxie left the group on a pilgrimage of some sorts. He did promised that he will return to his friends. Even though the Arcane Order is gone, there are still minor dangers plaguing the galaxy. But Jim, his friends are ready for what comes next. Never forget that fear is the precursor to valor. That to strive and triumph in the face of fear is what it means to be a hero.
My other question is: what happened to the previous timeline? Did Jim erase it from existence, or does it still exist, somewhere, except Jim is no longer in it? Either way, it really makes me hate the ending even more. If Jim erased it from existence, he practically erased trillions of people from existence, including the Staja babies that were just born, which, to save just 4 people (though the main motivation was 1 person) seems to be a huge overreaction. If that’s not the case though, that also makes me hate the ending. Claire was friends with Toby and is probably heartbroken that he’s gone, but she at least had Jim… until he left for the other timeline. Now, what if Claire is completely alone? And Blinky, who had just called Jim his son? What about BARBARA, who assumed Jim would survive the battle, only to arrive later and find out her son as erased himself from this timeline, and gone to another one, to live with an alternate version of her? The resetting timeline ending is on par with the “it was just a dream” ending as the worst possible ending for any story.
The ending pretty much threw everything out the window end it was also a bit heartbreaking as a long time fan to see toby become the new troll hunter and how it would change everything it makes no sense Merlin literally made a whole paragraph about how Jim should be the new troll hunter or how Jim is going to be the best choice ever Jim literally killed Gunmar slayed Bular so we already know he is worthy how the heck are we going to know if Toby is worthy
You definitely hit the mark on your analysis for the ending. Something that I feel people also forget is because Toby is the trollhunter, we lose Strickler’s and Jim’s personal conflictions. Jim is the trollhunter, Strickler has to kill him because of that. However, because he loves Barbara, he would be killing his step son. Why would it matter all that much if it was the Trollhunter’s best friend? Not to mention we know that Jim and Strickler, before trollhunting, already had a strong student-teacher dynamic. What would happen now? Would Strickler try to go after Toby’s grandma? Or, because he is already close to Jim, maybe try to go after Jim to get to Toby? The dynamic is ruined because of this. Then with the beautifully conducted archs of Jim and his mom having arguments and Jim needing to lie to her all the time but really doesn’t want to hurt her, that might stil be there but man it’s so much weaker. “Oh no, I have to lie about where I am because I gotta support my friend!” Hell no! That’s weak as hell! SOO many dynamics, story beats, and archs are ruined by just the switching of roles. Toby deserves better, Jim deserves better, we deserve better.
When I watched the movie, I was amazed by the production but it all fell in the ending by making Toby the trollhunter. I wish Jim would’ve thought carefully before resetting the timeline just because of Toby’s death. Yes, nomura, nari, stickler, and toby died, but as heroes. They all sacrificed themselves which is what Jim didn’t think of before resetting the timeline. I honestly want another series showing Toby a trollhunter who failed to stop Gunmar, many people were killed like claire, barbara, steve, eli aja, krel, varvatos, etc, and Toby was turned into stone by angor rot, and Jim would hold the amulet again and in regret, will go back to the exact moment Toby died in the past timeline.
Fixed ending: The whole movie plays out the same, but it’s divided into three parts. Part 1: Rise of the Titans The Arcane Order kidnaps Nari to unleash the Titans to destroy the world. Douxie used a spell to switch minds with Nari and before the effects of the spell wore off, Nari told Jim and the others to find the Kronisfere, which is somewhere in Hong Kong. Aja and Krel reveal that they have worked together with Toby, Claire, and Douxie to fix the Amulet. The heroes try to stop the Titans with Nomura and Strickler, but to no avail as they were both killed off. Part 2: The Grand Arcadian After obtaining the Kronisfere, Archie and Charlemagne make it out safely before the portal closes and then Archie tells them about the Grand Arcadian. Jim meets his other friends on the Grand Arcadian’s palace, which was not far from Arcadia Oaks. The Grand Arcadian (Guillermo Del Toro) was a powerful godlike being who watched over Arcadia and did not interfere with the timeline. Blinky warns him about the Titans and the Arcane Order, but the Grand Arcadian rejects the offer, saying this wasn’t his fight. He also tells them that the Kronisfere was too powerful and he took it from them so he could see Arcadia’s future. Suddenly, the Titans arrive on Arcadia and destroy the Grand Arcadian’s palace. Douxie frees Nari and her Titan fights Skrael’s titan, and they were both defeated in the end. After witnessing the battle, the Grand Arcadian decides to join Jim’s quest to defeat Bellroc. Part 3: Children of the Sun The heroes return to Arcadia and Jim lifts Excalibur.
I know it’s kind of hard to hear what’s terrible of the ending as some peeps know that, while others know the ending is terrific. Otherwise not only blame Nari for the plan about the Chronisphere and the Timestone, blame Merlin for being so super stubborn to bring a Trollhunter back to human! Sorry for upsetting you about what I was saying for half-months ago about another Tales of Arcadia YTP, preferably the misadventures of Toby and Claire, and even a YTP collab, but I subscribed you months ago, as you’ve been a great person, and, like me, a Tales of Arcadia fan, which I was a fan of Claire Nuñez. Let’s hope we can keep it crispy/cool.
I love the beginning of rot, after a little timeskip, they show us that Jim is still in the ranks even without an amulet and that he is able to literally stand naked against a demigod who recognizes his once former greatness, then how the characters have slightly improved their skills, for example, Claire . The development of the relationship between Barbara and Strickler, Duxie and Nari . The film has a wonderful sound quality, the work of the voice actors, character design and graphics are all on top but.. OK, we know true Jim wouldn’t let his friend be exposed to the danger he’s been through. But what about the other characters ? I still prefer to think that Duxy could have found a better solution for the current situation, right ? What about Aja, do you think a confident, calculating queen who thinks about her people, who made great efforts to achieve peace in her homeland, would so easily give up everything, having only the probability that everything could happen the way it happened?I still don’t know what happened to the timeline that Jim left, does it still exist or…? One of trollhunters fan creator on Tumblr has a wonderful headcannon as Jim returns not to the beginning of the franchise but to the beginning of the movie and saves most of the characters, boom Barbara and Strickler are getting married . I prefer to assume that rot should have ended like this
Throughout the whole series they explain how the amulet chooses the next troll hunter but this is just seems that it’s who’s ever lucky 🍀 to get to the amulet first. It means it never chose Jim. Jim just picked it up. Which I think also goes against everything they built it on. “The amulet never makes a mistake” the amulet is clearly doing sod all. Then everything with Merlin closing Jim knowing it was going to be him is a lie because does that now mean he saw Toby the whole time. Or did it mean he knew Jim would chose it and change everything anyways. I was sad at everyone’s death. But to be fair we’ve watched most of them die quite a few times with them just being brought back. The fake deaths were tolerable but to bring back Toby and making him troll hunter totally not cool. And nothing stopped Jim from just going back to the beginning of the movie I actually thought that was what he was going to do. What’s to say with Toby being the troll hunter that no one would die 🤷🏼♀️ does that mean everything will play out exactly the same with slight changes aka Toby not getting the girl but still being Claire’s hero because Claire’s character development came from Jim because he was the troll hunter so would she now want Toby ? Would Jim die in the end saving Toby’s life ? And let’s be real picturing Toby doing everything Jim did is highly unlikely Jim’s sword skills came from his chef skills. Toby could barely lift his hammer 🔨 at most points in the show so how does that bod with Toby.
I swear, I thought he WAS going back to the start of the movie. I was thinking: ‘oh, cool! We get to see him make better choices and save all these characters he wasn’t able to before now that he knows what will happen – he will know the outcome of everyone’s actions and can WARN THEM.’ That Tobi would learn the value of BEING the sidekick, and how much being one had helped the group. Teach kids that not everyone WILL be the hero, and that supporting your friends however you can is JUST as valuable as taking the spotlight. Tobi is a GREAT background character, he’s a GREAT comic relief. He will NOT be a great Trollhunter. Simply because, while he CAN be serious, that is NOT what his personality IS. And that’s what they NEED. Tobi WON’T take it seriously, and he won’t have the capabilities that Jim did to succeed. Really think, about it: JIM barely survived several attacks. In my mind, the movie ends as Jim says goodbye to Tobi. That’s it. They’ve already lost so many allies, and had to deal with their deaths. Another thing to teach kids: sometimes bad things happen. Sometimes we loose people we love. And it’s OK to be sad about it, but by remembering them, and going on doing your best to make them proud is a GREAT way to remember them by. Also, the fact that Archie and Douxie got that lameass ‘goodbye.’.
I think there should be a proper game with effort in it and some shorts, that would start to revive people’s thoughts. The game would need some decent graphics and a new storyline, and some shorts just need some guidance from the community. Anyways, great article, spitting some facts like always. And no, I do not expect them to make a good game unlike the last one, but it would be cool, the last one had so much potential. It got boring after the first day.
As someone who rewatched the series constantly and falls in love everytime— when I watched the movie my heart was broken. All the spin offs they made, the movie and effort out into the series before- they literally threw EVERYTHING down the drain?? Why the heck did they think this was going to be a good ending? Why were the developers okay with this? It could’ve ended SOOO many different ways and they chose the one that completely under minded the whole series. Shame. We could’ve seen him and Claire babies.
I really appreciate the fact that you brought this up and I agree a lot with what you’re saying. The fourth movie wasn’t bad, but the ending was terrible, especially to me. It just felt so unfulfilling and made everything that had happened over the course of the series a waste. Jim not being the troll hunter, even in a new timeline, feels wrong.
I hated how they did my favorite characters Steve, Aja, and Krel dirty Steve is my Favorite out of them all. I hate how they built up Steve’s character from a bully with a broken house hold into more than that he became a good friend and a was gonna be a true hero but the complete nerfed him for a mpreg gag which was very weird and uncomfortable especially since this series is aimed at kids and up ( I’m 18 btw). Steve could have been the one to wield Excalibur since he literally trained with sr Lancelot and trained to be a knight it would have ended his story arch having Steve finally fight despite his fear having him fight with all his heart despite being scared would have been perfect and it would have been cute to have Steve fighting to protect and for a pregnant Aja. They completely changed Aja’s personality from 3below they had so much potential to have Aja learn that sometimes leaning on your team is ok that they’re there to have your back and learn that sometimes it’s ok to take the back seat. Krel got barely used and they could have done more with him I felt like his small scenes were so bland what happened to the smart Akaridian prince always thinking up and creating new gadgets. Ik people change and the movie takes place a year later when the human characters are 18 but aren’t Krel and Aja 17 if they wanted the Staja babies the could have even done an epilogue when the whole gang is older and show a pregnant Aja with steve and Eli all living on Akaridian 5 or have the epilogue be where the gang all had kids and the kids start a whole new story if they have no further plans for the characters we’ve grown to love.
Great article. I haven’t seen your first article yet, I’ll watch that tomorrow. But, this ending was always horrible. Jim was always the one true trollhunter, and Toby isn’t up to everything Jim accomplished in the series. He definitely cannot defeat Gunmar, Angor Rot, or even Bular in hand to hand combat. In fact, I thought Claire would have been a far better trollhunter. She might at least stand a chance. This ending also erased all their friendships, as well as those seven little alien kids born at the end. So, Jim just wiped them out. I also thought Jim should have time traveled back to the start of the film and not the series. To me, like the ending of How To Train Your Dragon, it was absolutely terrible.
To this day, I don’t know what the writers were even thinking. I honestly thought Jim was just gonna reset from the beginning of the movie too but NoPe. If they were just gonna throw away the end, what was even the point of the whole series? What’s worse is I believe Toro was going to give them a happy ending where the kids defeat the arcane order it, and they all go to college, but the other writers didn’t want that.
With the first one, I 100% agree. Jim was the one made for it, so when Draal got the amulet, the world got basically destroyed. So why wouldn’t that be applied to with Toby now being the Trollhunter? And another thing, I’m very confused about, is HOW did Draal not get the amulet again? Because Draal would’ve gotten to the amulet before Toby could have, and it would’ve ended up worse, and now they can’t do anything about it. I agree with you fully, on all of the reasons
I agree with you that Jim has to be the trollhunter, there has to be a way that Jim gets the amulet back if they go down the route of Toby being the trollhunter. Toby may be a great friend but like he’s said in the past, he’s a wingman not a leader. Jim has to be the trollhunter in order for the world to survive This definitely isn’t going to go well. My only hope for the show is that blinky remembers somehow and tries to mend things himself (he’s the one telling the story at the start of the movie so there’s a chance he does remember) He erased more than his own timeline, Aja and Steve haven’t met before, their kids just no longer exist. Claire and Jim lost so many moments and some of them are gone permanently. Toby looses a lot of his character development, he’s no longer in 3Below or left behind when Jim leaves to find a new hearthstone. As of right now I’m going to go with the ending of Toby’s death. The rest isn’t cannon to me as of right now because of how bad that ending was. I understand that Jim loves his friend and we all would probably do the same but it’s a matter of everyone you care about over the last 2 years forgetting everything they went through or rescuing one person.
If I would have known how bad the ending was going to be I literally would have avoided perusal the whole serious from the start! I’m so disappointed on the ending because it was a great series up till the end! What a waste of time I spent perusal this show, sense really everything in it was for nothing. 😭💀
when I rewatched the series after the knowledge of that terrible finale something that really hurt was that Jim was never gonna have a freaking statue in the hall of the fallen trollhunters, obviously he would never turn into a stone after his death but after all he went through, man it just feels wrong he’s never gonna have the recognition and tribute he deserves, it was a big deal for a trollhunter and now toby is the one that’s gonna have that statue to honor him someday, when Jim literally sacrifices his life and humanity tfff
Ive watched trollhunter from the start and the ending for Rise of the Titans ruined Tales of Arcadia for me. The whole reason Stickler even became a good guy was because he had a thing for Barbara which he tried to use her against Jim that failed but now that Jim’s not the trollhunter Strickler doesn’t need to use her/get to know her thus completely erasing their whole relationship and future where they took care of all the changeling babies. And speaking of changelings Jim went through so much trouble to bring Enrique back to Clare and her family, now that’s all gone since Toby’s the trollhunter. But don’t get me wrong I really love Toby, I just don’t think he should be the new trollhunter. It shouldve never happened.
I was totally upset about the ending and how other people died unexpectedly. I was shocked while perusal the show and the ending kept me this overwhelming feeling :”)) But as Nari said clearly, “only the trollhunter will know”, so it might be Jim is still the trollhunter in the original timeline even though Toby have the Amulet but idk… Too bad the show has ended :”))
Jim Doesn’t have any control over the timeline, and Claire could get creeped out by Jim knowing her soo much, or even hating him if she discover the truth. also we will not have the same connection between Jim and Blinky, Jim and Draal, probably Claire and Barbara would get killed if toby was the trollhunter and jim couldn’t help him
I Can’t say How Much I Reached The Movie Before The Finally,Ris Of Titans but Wet That Ending I Have No Longer Any wish or need Of Wanting To Watch The Movie Again And This Is so Bad and Hard For Me because I enjoyed perusal every second Of This Franchise and I Cant Watch it Anymore because Of The Ending seen That Jim Traveled Back and Mad Tobe To Be The Troll Hunter
Seriously, the ending was a huge slap in the face to us fans. It undid everything that we loved about the series. It would’ve been so much better if Jim went back to the beginning of the movie and set up plans to save everyone and stop that male pregnancy with Steve as well because that was pointless and disgusting. And after all that, they could’ve left an opened ending where it’s possible that Jim changing the past could’ve caused something that could maybe lead to another series. I think the issues of Trollhunter started when it went on a long hiatus and we didn’t get to see any of the arc where Jim was taking the trolls to New York so they could build their new home.
You know now that I have really thought about the movie, I think that Jim only gave Toby the amulet because Jim realized that he doesn’t need the amulet to be a hero. Jim went most of the movie without the amulet and survived. He doesn’t need a stupid amulet telling him what he is, and I think that’s what the people that made the movie wanted us to get.
My rant in numbered points: 1. Timetravel version of “it was all just a dream” 2. Everything that happened over the course of the series was rendered moot 3. The pilot established why Jim would be chosen: brave and compassionate in the face of bullies, understanding greater responsibility, and a natural desire to protect 4. Not to bash Toby (cuz I adore the little guy), but the pilot had shown that Toby had lacked the growth and heroic fundamentals that Jim had already. When the boys saw the amulet’s power in action for the first time, Toby’s immediate thought was to go beat up their bully. 5. I think that Claire fell for Jim because of his heroism and the burden of the Trollhunter mantle. I don’t think things would have turned out as well for Jim and Claire if he was just a regular high schooler. 6. It breaks my heart that Jim will now be deprived of his relationship with Blinky 7. It sucks that his mother is also now deprived of her relationship with Strickler 8. After all the times the series delved into why timetravel was so dangerous, unpredictable, and not to be messed with, this just feels like someone’s apocalyptic fanfic.
Theory: GDT had no say in the final scene and hates it as much as the rest of the fandom. He pitched the shorts to dreamworks with the intent on making them about Jim realizing that the time rest was a bad idea. And then there’s a big plot twist where it reveals that he never reset time to begin with, but it was all another illusion created by Merlin’s spirit to show him why trying to change the past is a mistake. There’s a flash of light and Jim is suddenly right back to the immediate aftermath of the fight against Bellroc. He gives a speech about why changing the past would be a bad idea and all the survivors mourn the deaths of their allies and move on with their lives. The End.
Wait wait wait I was perusal the first episode again of troll hunters and when Jim said the incantation and was in the armour it was still as big as kanjigars armour and shrinks to fit Jim now what would of happened if the amulet had chosen someone who was bigger than the troll hunter before them which is probably why when kanjigar possessed AAARRGGH only the sword appeared and the amulet did not enable the armour as it would have probably killed AAARRGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been a big fan of troll hunters since the beginning. I remember thinking it would be stupid, but the show ended up touching my heart. I was also one of the first people subscribed to you back before I lost my account. I was so glad there was someone who loved troll hunters as much as I did, and it made me happy. But season three really sucked. Jim was never meant to be a troll in the first place. It ruined the whole meaning of troll hunters, Jim was chosen because he was human! However I didn’t mind the ending to troll hunters or wizards because it wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t great either. I didn’t even watch rise of the Titans, and I don’t even want to. Whenever I re-watch troll hunters I always stop at season 2. Thank you for loving trollhunters as much as I did, thank you for making trollhunters articles. I used to get bullied for liking a kids show so perusal your articles made me feel better!
I agree with everything you said🤗. I recently watch the rise of the titans and i was as furios as you were. I love tales of arcadia, 3below, wizards so, so much, i mean i was very happy and excited, but then drop in my heart that ending that erase every feeling that happend. I like so much when u said about that Blinky-Jim son thing, or Drall-Jim thing and the thing is that Claire fight so much for Jim, to help him and then Jim kinda doesn’t care about it. Anyway, i’m a fan too and i hope that dreamworks will come with a new season that kinda changes Toby-the trollhunter😧😨
(I saw how people have been freaking out over the ending, I was the same way so I’m posting this little rewrite on I wrote on different reviewer websites that didn’t like the ending to give the fans and reviewers who were dissapointed in the ending some closure in a way despite this being non-canon. I truly hope this story can give you a bit of closure, however it does still have it’s heartbreaking moments) (Spoiler Alert to anyone who hasn’t seen the film) I admit the movie to me was great until the reboot in time. there were a few plot points they could’ve changed to make it better, but i can live without them. Hopefully this isn’t the end of the series since it leaves things open for the future, however I would’ve at least loved an Avengers Endgame moment with not only the main characters, but all the other characters and armies involved with the Trollhunters like the Trolls, Akiridians, Foo Foos, the Tech Wizards, Charlemagne, Zadra, Trolldragons, NotEnrique, Soldiers of 49B, and Eli with his Parking Drones, maybe even along with the people of Arcadia in fact Jim could’ve used the Time Stone to pull a doctor strange and bring back characters from the past before they died such as Nomura, Strickler, Vendel, Kanjigar, Deya, Former Trollhunters, Nari with her Titan, Mother, Kubritz, Buster, Tronos Madu, Aja and Krel’s parents, Merlin, Morgana, Nimue, Arthur, Lancelot, Galahad, and the knights of Camelot till the end of the war as their presence would be temporary in order to keep the weight of their previous sacrifice and the I would have the Time Stone break after usage due to the amount of power needed to bring everyone back temporarily.
This just showed up, but I wanted to say. When Strickler died in the movie, I had a feeling about where this was going. Strickler was too powerful a character to kill, and knowing how troll death works and how time can be messed with, my thoughts drew to Infinity War but bad. Glad I stopped perusal when I did.
SPOILERS Toby dying made me cry unbelievably hard. I was distraught but i also had a “its okay, a few losses for a big win, jim and the rest will have insane character development and perhaps they even get stronger” Then the timeline resets. All that emotion i felt was meaningless. All the emotions i felt in previous seasons were meaningless. I especially hate opened ended endings. Gives me too many questions and i cant live peacefully. Now i just pretend the ending never happened. Either they live with the losses or everyone lives and i won’t have it any other way
Toby becoming the troll hunter doesn’t make sense either. The amulet was meant for Jim. And you can’t convince me the amulet just chooses whoever is closest to it first, because in the show wizards, we literally see the amulet fly around and choose someone. Maybe draal becoming the troll hunter in season 2 made a little bit more sense because he wanted to continue his fathers legacy, but TOBY? yeah no.
I would give the movie a 7/10 because of the ending and many characters died. If the series were to have an ending where “the star would align” and the characters still have their experience in the old timeline, This movie would be the perfect movie that ever existed. I also hate it when the Arcane Order died because they are the embodiment of the elements itself, and they are necessary for the world. I hope that the next series or movie will have characters that do not lose their experience, and the Arcane Order would leave the world to it self.
Yes, I say that it would be worth a sequel, just for everyone to remember their memories, and I thought that whoever puts their hand on the amulet will remember all their memories. It’s just that Toby already has the amulet and the armor with him, but I also thought of something like in the future in the story that Jim would also find an amulet or armor of excalibur. And only in this way could the story be mended and at last there be peace
Ok to be honest, yeah Toby’s death would’ve been a really good if it didn’t change, I really hope that the shorts that GDT pitched would be about how Jim screwed up the timeline and how they need to fix it but the consequences of Toby’s death and everyone else’s. I really love this movie, I even liked the ending even without the theory, but I just can’t believe that all of that just happened. But if what Nari said IS true (“time unfolds differently like a flower.”)then that opens up the possibility to fixing the ending, and having an overall satisfying ending the fans will rate a 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,/10
Good ending / Feel free to judge Here is how i picture toby being the trollhunter: Toby finds the amulet, Tells jim about it. Then, At night Jim was with toby in toby’s house. Toby heard Blinky and aarrrgh outside of his house in his garden. They go and check and see the trolls being in the garden and Toby was shocked and ran inside. Jim explains to the trolls what happened. At first they dont believe him but jim still had the pictures. Meanwhile, Strickler found out about Angor rot and his ring which he gets. Then he goes to angors temple and revives him, Finds out about toby and tells angor to hunt him down. Bular met angor and they cooperated. Meanwhile Jim gets weapons from heartstone trollmarket AND he gets an armour made out of special stone. Then, The villains come and cause chaos at heartstone trollmarket. Hordes of goblins get into the trollmarket too and so did the golems. Basically, Jim, Toby, Aaaarrrgh, Blinky, Draal, Fight but fail. Many golems take blinky, And throw him into the abyss. Meanwhile Aarrrgh fought some golems and jumps down to save blinky. Saves him goes up and they fight Bular, Angor rot and they win, Bular was actually able to escape and absorbed the heartstone. Strickler and nomura go into the trollmarket, Strickler was shocked because he told bular and angor not to hurt jim. So he fights bular and angor rot too, Jim then actually killed Bular while the others were injured and Toby actually knows the sword throw technique since jim told him everything and throws the sword at angor rot while angor was distracted And they win.
I give the movie a 1/10 animation was great and all but the ending not only ruined this movie but it actually undid everything the series had accomplished it basically ruined the entire saga, depriving it of any possible rewatch value. Saw what you want about the Game of Thrones ending but whatever happened before that ending, it happened. Trollhunters, nothing of what we watch happened.
bro I was actually so pissed I got to the end and I was like that’s it no haha just kidding that’s actually how everything ends and then I think about Jim and Claire they got together because of Romeo and Juliet, Jim got Romeo because he became the troll hunter and was wearing his armor during the audition which made him look committed and he said what he said because being the trollhunter made him wiser so I wonder would they even wind up together at all
This whole article is spitting straight facts. Not to mention there’s hardly a chance this will turn out better than last time. 1. Jim won’t have the same relationship with Strickler so there’s WAY less of a chance that Strickler will give him Gunmar’s eye = no eclipse blade = no killing Gunmar. 2. Jim won’t become half troll in this timeline and we all know Toby doesn’t have the guts to make that sacrifice so Human Jim and Human Toby are not strong enough to kill Gunmar = no killing Gunmar. Not to mention no being allies with Nomura in the Darklands so no redemption for Nomura No redemption for Angor Rot (if he even shows up this time) No Jim and Draal friendship No Jim and Blinky friendship Claire might not even be involved either so if Morgana comes back you’re all screwed Wizards showed us that knowing these things before they happen and trying to intervene is NOT a good idea. Screw this ending, man. There is no Rise of the Titans in Ba Sing Se.
I tried to like the ending but I just can’t. I have seen other articles about the ending and all the articles are all the same the ending should have been different. I wish Jim would have time travel back to the beginning of the movie to save everyone. Or if it was the beginning of the series at least keep Jim as the trollhunter. I wouldn’t take that chance on maybe everything would fall into place if Jim wasn’t the trollhunter. Jim should still be the trollhunter but he would just know what happens and maybe the rule is for him not to tell his friends about him being from the future. If he told them maybe something bad would happen.
Just imagine… right as soon Jim uses the Time Stone, his father who left him, stands next to him and be like: “It is you… I finnaly have found you.” And Jim looks at him with a confused face without knowing it is his dad. Then his father tells him everything about why he left him etc. After that it’ll make Jim questioning if he really wanna reset the time to the beginning, or… He has to deal with everything that just happend (All the deaths of his loved ones).
A bit late, and I see that people are saying that Draal would’ve gotten the amulet before Toby, and they would be wrong. If you look closely to when Toby was looking through the pile, it was still daylight, not sunset, meaning that Draal would’ve never gotten the amulet like we saw in Unbecoming, also meaning that Enrique would’ve probably been in the Darklands longer than he should’ve been, Gunmar would’ve succeeded in making the night Eternal and then disposed of, maybe Toby becoming a troll(BIG maybe on that one, and possibly failing to kill Gunmar. And as you said, the Kronosphere is in another location, somewhere Jim couldn’t have gotten unless he somehow convinced his mom to take him, and get to that Exact bridge. And before anyone says that Charlie could’ve taken them, would’ve been impossible if Nari hadn’t mentioned the Kronosphere. Yeah Jim would know about it, but if Toby died, sure Jim would get the Amulet again, but what transportation would he have other than a plane, not a car because that would take too long, and definitely not Charlie because he would need to convince Douxie first, and his familiar to lead them AND convince Charlie to fly them there, and we all saw how reluctant he was to go there. And don’t forget that Jim is a Time Traveller, how is he going to explain this to the gang without cause a rip in the Space Time Continuum?
Why can’t Jim accept that Toby is dead and the story could continue And plus why they make Toby die like could it been someone else like someone not close to Jim like the whole point for Jim going back to ep1 (in his point of view) is to save toby and make him the hero like it is just morbid. And because it is so open-minded like what if Claire doesn’t become Jim’s girlfriend (like in Season 3 ep1 she blushed when she saw Douxie so she could become Douxie’s girl ) Or what if General Morado doesn’t attack Akiridion 5 . And also I don’t hate toby like he is one of my fav characters of TOA but compare him to jim and there are several red flags he may not survive past episode 5 and even to the fact he admits he has weight problems unlike jim. And remember Jim is relying on “chance”. And i completely agree like the the the time stone can take him to the start of the movie but the problem is that it will be another hour of the movie unless it is entertaining like everything changes or again it can be very open-minded and then I’ll still be happy. This movie has ruined my whole experience of the Tales of Arcadia franchise
I hope if they continue the series that this plan doesn’t work, and Jim has to go through something similar to Dr. Strange in episode 4 of “What If…?” where no matter what he does, he can’t change it. I want this to happen, and for Jim to realize the foolishness of his idea. I want him then to restore the ORIGINAL timeline and learn to cope with all the losses he endured.
Oh my god, finally someone who has exactly the same opinion about the ending as me, I mean if Jim had jumped to the beginning of the film he could have defeated the Titans or whatever they are called on the train and then pulled the sword out of the stone with his friends and activate the new amulet.
There is a quote in dragon prince I don’t quite remember but it was like “are you telling the truth or are you shifting the burden” Jim was supposed to be the troll hunter because he is ACTUALLY able to take the responsibility’s and the quote is like the story is he saving him or is Jim just shifting the burden to him cause he knows the pain that he went through while being the troll hunter and I just thought that all the “amulet chose you” is bs cause anyone who found the amulet was the troll hunter and we all know what happened with draal it could be worse with the new beginning and the whole ending with all toby being new troll hunter just seemed rushed and annoying like Jim could have saved everyone by going back in time he knew what was coming and he could have saved them but idk if toby can save someone And it will never work toby isn’t the right call even if Jim helps him cause then it will just feel like bossing around it’s just annoying also it felt like the writers were like killing everyone to just say “haha it’s ok because we will make another universe that will be so much worse ” I want to see them make Toby die and Jim realise that he was wrong and that he went back in time and just saves him instead of giving his own responsibility to him it’s like spider man And they could have ended with a funeral of Toby and like a time skip to when Jim is in college and still remembers Toby but moves on it’s like killing toothless and letting hicup go back in time to giving astrid toothless Also if douxie can move on after the death of the wizard who was his friend his master his father figure Then so can Jim sorry not sorry And also Toby couldn’t even escape from bular on a bike A BIKE u think he will even last an episode like he is fat ok and he can’t even do a lot of things while Jim is the right shape and person Toby will DIE two seconds in to the episode it’s just dumb how many time how many time Toby escaped from death by the help of Jim being the troll hunter and while he wasn’t being protected by him he died The only thing they both have in common physically is that they both don’t have a father
Tbh, compared to the rest of the series this movie is hot garbage. Writing is kind of clunky and the dialog is strange. I don’t know if the writers were fatigued or if they didn’t have time, but they completely botched this one. I honestly think DreamWorks should just ‘cars 2’ this mess because it’s just too terrible to be cannon. I mean Steve’s pregnancy served what purpose exactly? Comic relief? It wouldn’t surprise me if the writers themselves are disappointed with how it came out. Anyway, that’s the end of my rant.
I hope Toby is not a good troll hunter and Jim learns that there is no perfect world in this happen for a reason and the amulet comes back to Jim because whenever Toby says the incanment it doesn’t work and the amulet only calls to Toby because it was Merlin to teacher Jim a lesson and has to destroy the time stone and when he wakes up his friends who died came back to life, and plus we only saw the main characters Jim is not doing this for the good of only for his friends and Jim has to learn that
Look when u think about it really hard I thought about it. It makes a lot of sense and Jim can do it right. Jim can spend a lot more time with Claire and training Toby to be better then Jim. And other things he loves to do. Like cooking and acting. I will rewatch tales of Arcadia again, again, and again because I’m a true fan. I do think Arcadia will continue really!!! Also I think I would listen to the fans and myself really
It wasn’t actually a mistake remember that Nari said “Time unfolds differently like a flower” and remember the khronisfere will make it right? and they restarted the time bc many people died their love ones died keep perusal it you will understand like me I also think that Jim is stupid at first but actually Jim isn’t this is just my opinion okay don’t make it hard! stay safe btw too have a nice day or night thank you! wait I also think that Steve will meet Aja again. :goodvibes:
The Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans ending? I don’t know anymore! I’m just happy that all the dead characters have a second chance to live! AND PLEASE IF ONE OF THE CREATORS ARE READING THIS, Make everyone happy by making a movie or series of just giving everyone flashbacks of what happened in TOA timeline – Cheddar
The ending was not tolerable personaly my favorite of the shows was 3 below because it showed character development for everyone it showed steve being more mature but still a bit if a gooferd, it showed toby being able to. Pull through without jim. There still being a connection. The death of toby showed sacrifices have to be made, and they screwed it said no to all the progression and it ruined it.
I have seen on some very few articles that there will be a new trollhunters series or maybe movie, it’s called (Vaxonob presents) TrollHunters: a Story Reborn And what I think is cause, when jim changed time and Toby became the trollhunter, maybe they wanna show us what would have happened if the mantle went to
After perusal that Doctor Strange What If? Episode it leaves me asking if there are any major consequences of Jim resetting time. Will Morgana awaken sooner? Will Bular successfully open the Killahead Bridge in Part 1? Will Draal kill Toby? (That kid is dead) Will the Arcane Order sense it and enact their plan earlier than originally? Hell will the bloody universe collapse in on itself? Merlin warns Douxie about changing time in Wizards, yet here Douxie is fine with Jim doing it despite knowing what could happen. This movie ending is non-canon for me. After Toby died they rebuilt, has a funeral for those they lost and moved on.
Some examples of why ROTT has a truly great ending: 1. Jumanji had the same ending, just with a flash forward. 2. “D’aja Vu” and the entirety of Wizards showed that everyone will come together eventually, no matter what. 3. “Unbecoming” was not really a time travel episode. It was Merlin using magic to show the worst possible outcome if Jim not only refused the amulet’s call, but ignored the Killahead conspiracy until it was too late. 4. Jim’s decision is a VERY realistic one. Let’s say you were Spider-Man, but your best friend died. Wouldn’t you be willing to let them be the hero instead if it meant they live? 5. Jim will not sit on the sidelines like he did in “Unbecoming”. He knows that he has to stay directly involved to make things better, even without the amulet. 6. EVERY surviving Guardian of Arcadia agree with and support Jim’s choice, sacrificing their relationships, their friendships, and even their children in Staja’s case, if it means they can have it all in a better world. 7. If Guillermo gets what he wants, we’ll at least see another 8 shorts in the franchise.
I loved the movie through and through, except the Steve plotline. The ending was unexpected and I enjoy it, mostly because I am filled to the brim with ideas for the new timelines, not necessarily because it’s good writing. I don’t think that there will be any shorts, and honestly I wouldn’t mind if tales of Arcadia really is finished. This is just my opinion 😊
I just wish that Jim had gone to the beginning of the movie and saved everyone who died in it, not reset the whole series and given Tobey of all people the amulet, also Tobey is gonna die as trollhunter, he might be able to best bular, but the only reason that Jim was able to survive angor rot for so long is become he had agility, something Tobey lacks
The end absolutely ruined me when I watched it, like you mentioned in the article, the episode where Jim doesn’t pick it up obviously shows that everything would never have worked out if he didn’t pick it up yet they still ended the movie like that?? It just resets literally everything they’ve worked so hard for like why would you do that?? It just sucked so bad. I had to rewatch the series just to feel better after perusal the movie lmao, still didn’t feel the same rewatching the series but yeah 💀
I’m gonna be honest. Something tells me Guillermo Del Toro didn’t write this movie. Someone in the writers room went behind his back and said, “hey guys, screw Del Toro. Why don’t we have an ending that resets everything, and we make Toby the Trollhunter” I was genuinely pissed when I saw the ending. It left me with so much anger than I had to sit in my living room after perusal just to process what the hell I just watched, and than go on pretending that it didn’t happen. And I still don’t. I hate this movies ending, and at this point, people writing fan fictions of the show probably have written better endings than this dumpster fire that completely eviscerated the story of Tales of Arcadia.
It’s the way what angered me the most wasn’t Toby being the new Troll Hunter (although it is really stupid) but the fact that Aja and Steve were completely fine with erasing the timeline of their children and family 😭. If I’m being honest Toby dying was the perfect ending anyway because it was a bittersweet moment where he saved the universe after being the guy who ruined like every single mission.
Restarting the series wouldn’t be very nice, because we knew all of the things that happened and why returning back in time? ‘Cause Toby died? Maybe accepting the death of someone very important is too hard? Maybe, Toby was in Troll Hunter, 3 Below and Wizard, and he was very important in Troll Hunter and 3 Below. He was also the best friend of Jim, but there’s no reason to coming back in time and the ending of « It was just a dream », omg, it’s kind of annoying. And restarting would erase all of the memories that had, so there’s no reason to come back in time…
This cartoon is the most worst ending i have ever watch in my entire life. I am a cartoons fans of all cartoons. The main reason the ending is the worst is that after everything that has happend or 3 full series, everything will change or different because of this and i waste my entire time because of it. Some people said that the ending was not bad because maybe there may be better future or jim was traumatized and don’t want it, really!!! First let us pretend if you were Jim in this ending, you literly just underestimate all your experience and let your best friend to endure it so you can just be like… A… soothsayer maybe or supporter, that super selfish because this fate of earth we are talking about. I don’t what happened with the writer or producer but if they don’t feel wrong with this, Then they are the worst animator. It’s no wonder why I never get recommendation from anyone of this cartoon and I know why. Thank you.
My head cannon: Toby dies, and they all mourn his death like they do in the movie. They then go back to Camelot and talk about their victory, but their losses that came with it. They give their salutations to all of the losses that occurred. It then shows futures for the rest of the characters and how they deal with their loss. Jim is with Claire and Barbara, Jim maybe even getting therapy, Arrrgghhh and Blinky are also still with them, Eli, Steve, Aja, and Varvatos go to Achiridian 5 and Steve and Aja are taking care of their kids, Douxie stays in Camelot and it take him a lot longer to mourn than the rest because of the many more losses that have just occurred to him. (Perhaps Douxie might have to have some therapy as well from losing Merlin, Archie, and Nari) They are all living happily, even if they had losses, and role credits. I wish they had an ending more like this but we all have dreams. I really loved this franchise and I loved the movie up to the end. I like what you brought up in the article, and also, there was literally an episode of Trollhunters where Jim says “I am the Trollhunter, Amulet or not” It kind of ticked me off when they completely ignored that entire story line and made Jim weak, and asking “am I still the trollhunter without the amulet?” That just took almost all of his story and growth as a character and threw it out of the window. And about Aja, her being so cold and saying things like that might be an effect from her being the queen and having to change her mindset.
What I think would have been better is if Claire become the troll hunter, not perfect but let’s be honest, better than tobi, I love tobi and he is a “great warrior” but he’s mostly comic relief and the best friend character, I can’t imagine him being in a serious scene, I could imagine Claire, I can’t imagine tobi killing Gunmar, I can imagine Claire, although Claire becoming the troll hunter isn’t perfect, it’s a lot better then tobu
Typically, stories that are resolved with time travel have to be orchestrated in ways for them to narratively make sense. This one doesn’t work because rewinding time to fundamentally change history goes against everything the series talked about, which is destiny. Toby could pick up that amulet and it wouldn’t mean anything cuz Jim was the chosen one. And since they rewound time to the very beginning to change *EVERYTHING*, it’s literally the equivalent of saying “nothing matters and destiny can be rewritten”. Why have Jim go through one of the longest arcs of accepting his destiny just for it to resolve with him renouncing his destiny?
I still hate it. It makes no sense at all. What’s the point building it up for fucking 5 years just to go back to the beginning and start it all again and we don’t even see it. Toby isn’t a troll hunter he will always be the best friend it just was totally ruined perusal from the start 5 years just to go back but with a shitter troll hunter
I don’t like the Jim time traveling back to the beginning of the series either I don’t think Jim should’ve time traveled all so when I do go back and watch the series a I look at it this way all the events from the pilot of troll hunters to the last episode of wizards I look at it as the events leading up to Toby’s death, because every time I think about that terrible time travel ending, it makes me so mad @DoctorHero
I am honestly agree with this the as a fan of this show I am disappointed the ending is terrible and basically ruined the entire franchise and what it was and destroyed it as a whole all of those character developments and all those efforts etc…was for nothing I honestly won’t blame the fans why they would hate this ending cause it’s really terrible…
I liked the ending because it is unexpected. We all know this saga is one of the best and different things that has ever happened to us. Each TV series of this saga is not trivial. And even the film is not trivial. Each part of the saga is unexpected. Precisely for this reason I love Tales Of Arcadia. Why does not go trivial. It’s an original saga, full of twists, and intertwining plots that are fantastic. I will always love this saga because it is a saga that will surprise us forever.
but bro still Jim have the power and skills to save the world and even he can save the world by using all the weapons in the training area he has skills and when we see Toby climbing the rope and he climbed up its make sense that Toby has changed little I think he can maybe save the world and Jim can also train Toby because in end Toby climbed the rope and when he used the machine to save Jim and in the end when Toby was dying he was looking different I think Toby is the last hope for Jim and I am also sure Jim will train Toby and make him slim and then Toby can be trained and I think claire will be also will train but if Toby can’t defeat Bular than he may take time stone from the amulet and come back to present and that’s my opinion.
To be honest I don’t like the ending because I don’t think toby has the ability to be a true trollhunter but instead they could have made the ending of where they thought he was dead but then Toby comes out of some dirt then faints and then he wakes up in front of everybody and everybody is hugging each other and then the camera just zooms out to a way stronger villain now that would just be mindset to the audience to make them want a sequel but at this point I don’t even know if I want it I’m unless they give us a new series or a movie to it then they just wasted a 6 years worth of character development and world building it is disappointing 😞
Also the fact that Jim is the only human to have been chosen. That’s such a huge deal and so much of the show’s plot relies on him not fitting in 100%. Clearly Jim was special. It wasn’t that they just needed a human troll hunter, they needed Jim specifically. And then they throw that “specialness” away by making Toby the new troll hunter so easily without any buildup or showing us why he, like Jim, is special enough to be an outlier Also: Toby would have likely never gotten Claire involved, which also erases her entire arch
I agree with everything but I do think if he went all the way back to the beginning. Then maby helping the original troll Hunter and preventing his death in the first place would have been a decent ending. Instead of this lazy written ending. It’s seemed to my like they just didn’t have any consideration or imagination when it came to the ending and was just botched together to be done with.
A PART OF MARC GUGGENHEIM INTRVIEW: SPOILERRRRRRRRR How did you decide on what ultimately became the ending of the film? We talked a lot about every single aspect of the movie. In fact, I think if you sort of went back and you looked at our notes for the movie when we started, they would bear very little resemblance to the finished product. We really went down every avenue and we looked at the story from just about every angle and way in and way out, and certainly the ending and got the most discussion. It was tricky because, on the one hand, you want to end the series. That’s the whole point of the movie. On the other hand, it’s like, what are these kids going to do? Are they going to go off to college? That seems like a let down. That’s a little anticlimactic, so that was the struggle and the balance. When we hit upon the time reboot idea, the biggest issue there… There was a lot of pluses. It checked off the box of allowing us to reset the universe. It avoids certain tropes like seeing them go off to college. But at the same time, none of us wanted the audience to feel cheated. We didn’t want to send the message, “Hey, listen, the last three shows, you wasted your time perusal.” So the solution there for us, obviously, was all of this really did happen and Jim remembers it. Our main character remembers everything that happened. And I think if we didn’t have that element, I think it would feel like a cop-out. That was obviously something we wanted to avoid. So, I think it’s an unexpected ending.
While it was a bad call, overall, you can’t exactly compare it to the alternate timeline because in the what if scenario it was basically him removing himself from the whole situation. They already made it clear that they don’t need the amulet to be the hero, although getting the amulet to work anyways at the end is kind of self-defeating to the message, but that’s besides the point. He chose to give Toby the amulet, because he didn’t need it to be strong anymore, and its power would be better used in his eyes to protect his friend because he was strong enough to do what needs to be done without relying on it whether that is a sound strategy remains to be seen, but it’s not as simple as no magic sword equals doom.
I get that the movie is said to be the end of the TOA franchise, but you’ll never know if they’ll plan to either make a miniseries or another movie that will appeal to the audience without having an ending that leaves fans bothered because there was so much content to the story that proved meaningful in a way that creates character development. In a way, I would look at Rise of the Titans like Avengers Infinity War mainly because a lot of important supporting characters were killed off and leaves the main character in a state where they should fight on than rather use time travel as an alternative. If Jim were to use the time stone, he should have made the decision to go back to the beginning of the film to save Strickler, Nomura, Nari, and Toby. With his future knowledge, the Guardians of Arcadia would defeat the Arcane Order before they awaken the Titans without anyone dying in the process. Even after perusal Rise of the Titans, I still have this feeling that even if they say the movie is the end of the franchise, the heat from the fans might persuade the writers to create a miniseries or movie that will end the franchise the respect it deserves.
Jim is there, toby is there, claire is there, evrey troll is there the akiridions will still all out of the sky and land on the same spot, merlin is there douxie is there the arcaine order still exists strickler, noumura, barbara and evreone else is still there. So there is still a 20.48% chance the stars will align nust like aja said
This ending only works if Jim still has his akkadian amulet with all the power stones in it. Which would then make it so we get a better ending where Jim has all the future knowledge and they have a benefit of a second troll hunter for helping. But we never see or get referenced that he still has it so ending it s terrible till revealed otherwise
I watched this movie when it came out but I just remembered how much I hated it and decided to watch some articles about it, I think yours is the one I agree the most with. Like you I’ve been there since the very beginning of the show and was hooked entirely. I loved and became fascinated by the arcs and dynamics this show had to offer, they were so complex and mature, so enticing to watch, the growth showed made sense and was actually very emotional at parts. The idea that Jim would throw all of that away devastates me to this day, because that is a decision made by someone that forgot absolutely everything about the main character. Think about it, all his relationships evolved or even happened due to him being the Trollhunter. Not only HIS relationships, him being the Trollhunter also affected those around him and how they behaved/changed throughout the show (take Strikler for example). If they wanted to explore the idea of someone else becoming Trollhunter, why couldn’t it be Claire? Claire would have been an excellent candidate for a Trollhunter, at least way better than Toby! Yes, she wouldn’t have the powers of Morgana anymore, but why can’t that be Jim’s journey instead? Let the roles be reversed, and having Toby serve his purpose again, because let’s face it: he would die as the Trollhunter. But that’s not the point. The point is, like you said: Jim is destined to be the Trollhunter, so why why whyyyy? Just why? What went through their heads when they made that decision?
