In 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 the Apostle Paul says: 3 And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost, 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them. In 2 Corinthians 3:13-16, the Apostle Paul explains that when Moses went up the mountain to speak with God and came back down, his face shined like the sun. The light represents truth. Because the light was so bright the Israelites put a veil over the face of Moses until it faded. Paul explains that even as the scriptures are read a veil covers their heart. So, anyone reading the bible can read it countless times and not understand it. Paul then goes onto explain that the only way to lift the veil (to see the light of truth) is if a person is joined to Christ. This is what Jesus explained in His teaching on being the bread of life. This is what we call actual “communion” with God. This corresponds with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who don’t understand the scriptures and don’t recognize Jesus even though they were His disciples. It was because of the Eucharist that they recognized Him and understood the meaning of the scriptures. It makes literally true what Jesus said: without me you can do nothing. It was Jesus, in the Eucharist, that reveals the truth of the scriptures then.
The most puzzling thing to me has always been, why Jesus chose to walk, talk and reveal himself to the two of them before He revealed Himself to Peter and His other 11 disciples that were hiding out in a locked room. Only after He revealed Himself to the 2 and they went back to tell Peter and the other disciples that Jesus showed up to them in that locked room.
Good message but he left out how will you recognize Jesus. at the table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes where opened and they recognized Him, but He vanished from their sight.
