Patch 2.3 of Diablo III introduced a guaranteed socket roll for all Hellfire Amulets, which also includes a random passive skill from your class. This means that when you wear the amulet, you will gain five passives. However, if you have a good passive and are slightly undergeared otherwise, you may not want to use Squirt’s to avoid the drawback on it.
To gain passive effects, you must equip all items, and the benefits do not stack if you equip an amulet that gives passive X. A Hellfire Amulet only has to roll with a 5th Passive Skill that is beneficial to your Class build or one of the 4 Passive Skills you would normally assign. The passive skill cannot be re-rolled once an amulet is crafted, making it difficult to get an optimal combination of skill and stats.
The Hellfire Amulet is a craftable legendary amulet in Diablo III that rolls stats for level 70, but only requires character level 1 to be equipped. It essentially gives a high passive, which can be crafted with a unique secondary stat. Each passive skill only works for the class that normally has it, so one cannot use this amulet to gain a passive skill of another class.
Currently, Diablo 3 does not have any inventory charms like Diablo 2, so you must equip all items to gain the passive effects. If you equip a Hellfire Amulet of Intelligence on your follower, your hero will still gain the class passive rolled onto the amulet. You only need to roll one of the four passives you would use to unlock any passive you want, and the rollback post is not available.
