Gypsy Witch Tarot Card Interpretation?

Reading the Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards (GW) involves starting with a card directly to the left of the Main Person and reading it in concentric rectangles. The farther out the rectangles lie, the farther in the future the messages pertain to. The cards begin with the recent past, blended with present circumstances and the immediate future.

There are several methods developed over the years to use the Gypsy Witch fortune-telling decks, including Lenormand and traditional techniques. The Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Playing Cards are a blend of normal playing cards and Lenormand cards in suit and structure, but have a small roughly illustrated scene in the bottom right of each card.

The near-far method is considered the most legitimate or traditional method of reading the GW cards. The cards have stand-alone meanings but also rely on their proximity and position in relation to other cards. The Tarot Court Card Blog provides a book review of Reading Fortune Telling Cards by Fabio Vinago (US Games) for use with Gypsy Witch cards.

Based on a playing card deck of 54 cards, the Gypsy Witch cards come in an orange tuck box with basic instructions. Anyone have any experience with Gypsy Witch fortune-telling cards? A copy of a 1903 set of instructions from an early GW deck can be peer-viewed to see the original meanings.

In conclusion, the Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards are a powerful tool for understanding and interpreting the world around us.

What is Gypsy bloodline?

Gypsies are descendants of populations from Northern India who were forced out around 1000 AD by expanding Islam and possibly famine. The Romani language, spoken by most Gypsies, is an Indic language modified by external influences. Some Gypsies settled in Persia, Turkey, and Greece, while others spread across Slavic regions and settled in Western Europe.

The Gitanos, Manouches, Cales, Roma, Roma, Sinti, and Roma of Southern Italy all have distinct cultural horizons, mythological and religious systems, daily habits, and dialects. Some Gypsies are nomads, ambulants, or sedentary, while others are ambulant or sedentary. They have selectively absorbed the cultural habits of the area where they have settled or traveled. The only substantial difference between the Roma and nearby populations lies in the language. The majority of Gypsies know and use variants of Romani, even though they also speak local languages, and in some cases, these have completely replaced Romani.

By doing so, the interpretations can be more personal and freer, as it allows you to draw on your own perspective and interpretations.

Intuiting is a key part of a tarot reading, as it allows you to see the tarot as a tool to facilitate talking about things rather than a source of secret meanings. By doing so, you can gain a more clearer understanding of yourself or a situation.

Did Romani people invent Tarot?

The author emphasizes the importance of recognizing the cultural context of tarot, a traditional practice originating from the Romani trade. Despite the trade’s origins, Roma are often excluded from popular discourse around tarot, despite their heritage with the practice. The author explains that while tarot was not invented by Roma, they did incorporate Italian playing cards into the practice. In the US, laws restricting fortune telling were implemented to persecute Roma, and they are still the most likely group targeted by police for fortune telling.

When non-Romani fortune tellers use the slur Gypsy or use Romani dress to market their work, it becomes a strange area of cultural appropriation and privilege. Some Roma have responded by insisting that tarot should be a closed practice, but the author prefers to educate people about the cultural context of tarot divination, how to engage with it respectfully and authentically as a non-Romani person, and how to support Romani culture and readers. The author’s book, Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling, provides more information on the Romani cultural context of fortune telling.

Is there a gypsy symbol?

Since the 1990s, chakras and cartwheels have been prominent symbols of Romani activism in Europe, adopted by organizations like Romani CRISS, the Social-Political Movement of the Roma, and the Museum of Romani Culture. The Roma wheel, an Indian chakra, refers to the origin of the Roma people and is featured on various flags in North Macedonia, Moldova, and other countries. Italian Rom artist Luca Vitone designed an anarchist version of the flag in 2002, featuring the red chakra on a black field.

In 2007, the Venice Biennale experimented with separate pavilions for Romani artists, exhibiting under the Romani flag. A controversy erupted in Prague in 2013 when artist Tomáš Rafa displayed hybrid versions of the Romani and Czech flags, which was seen as defamation of national symbols. A 2009 study among Hungarian Romanies showed that many recognized the flag as standing in for the Romani nation as a whole.

The flag also gained popularity in Romania, where it was flown privately by Vasile Velcu Năzdrăvan, a leader of the Romanies in Craiova. It was also used by Sibiu’s “King of the Roma”, Florin Cioabă, and other members of his clan. In 2013, Florin Cioabă’s funeral ceremony displayed four flags: the WRC bicolor, the flag of Europe, and the Romanian tricolor, alongside banners representing the royal house and the Stabor (Romani tribunal).

  • Thanks for an interesting article. I also really appreciate the novelty of things like this, and I didn’t know about this specific deck. And it’s good to see the differences between these decks. I think I would prefer the Bicycle version because the value and suite are in both corners, so you don’t have to orient all the cards to be upright. And probably the familiar feel of the card quality too. As a game designer, nothing really sparks, other than figuring out other ways and layouts for the fortune telling aspect. Super fun, thanks!

  • Really appreciate this review! Just ordered the deck from a US Games seller on eBay. Think I might have to get the Bicycle deck as well. As far as the 5 card reading you dealt, what came to mind for me it’s that the person being read for would have good luck because someone else would pass on and leave them their fortune! 💰😃
